@Ash anthem is different though, we stand (or kneel) and sing along the anthem at sporting events

@GodEmperorDune Yeah, who told him is a big question!
Just now, Reuters has published a story largely confirming the Guardian’s scoop, saying that Ecuador tried to name Assange (who now holds Ecuadorean nationality) to the Latin American nation’s Embassy in Moscow. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-ecuador-assange-exclusive/exclusive-ecuador-attempted-to-give-assange-diplomat-post-in-russia-document-idUSKCN1M12R5
CALL IN THE GOON SQUAD
GOP FL Rep Gaetz: I have requested the Judiciary Cmte convene hrngs w/Rosenstein & others who are alleged to have been in the room..in order to ascertain the truth..if these inflammatory &!disturbing claims are true, they constitute grounds for..Rosenstein’s immediate removal

@TimStone ok i misread "hrngs" and thought it was a sound effect... i always knew Gaetz was really into trump but not like that

lol

1 hour later…
1:40 AM
Full response to @senjudiciary chairman.

2:14 AM
Sean Hannity on Rosenstein: "I have a message for the president tonight. Under zero circumstances should the president fire anybody. These actors, tonight, and I have multiple sources confirming this ... it is all a set up" https://t.co/xAjHLcfDh3
I don't understaaaaaand

@TimStone qanon got to him
@TimStone realistically, i think one faction is "oh shit mueller is gonna find my crimes" and another faction is "oh shit messing with mueller might get trump impeached and then i'll lose my access to the presidency"
hannity has to know that no other president is gonna bring him on conference calls and such
probably same for the large adult sons

2:32 AM
I think Hannity was pro-fire earlier though so I'm confused tbh

1 hour later…
3:58 AM
Judge Kavanaugh I just granted another extension to Dr Ford to decide if she wants to proceed w the statement she made last week to testify to the senate She shld decide so we can move on I want to hear her. I hope u understand. It’s not my normal approach to b indecisive
I don't know what he thinks Twitter is but uh
Oh my god
Good god. Trump's former communications director got his mistress pregnant, and when he found out, he spiked her drink with mifepristone and aborted her pregnancy without her consent. Republicans are woman-abusing, sexual psychopaths. https://trib.al/iUKhtn1
> We also know the identity of the ‘Jane Doe’ referenced in the filing, have located her, and Mr. Miller is absolutely certain that he does not know her, never had a relationship with her…
Well that certainly doesn't make sense
"He never did that but we had to discover this unknown woman's name and track her down to be sure"

4:18 AM
@TimStone jesus wtf
in somewhat less awful news, this is a long form article about fatness, how it is orthogonal to health, and how shaming fat people makes things worse for them and does not at all help them lose weight
This is an issue I've been obsessed with since I was a kid and I finally got to write a big long feature about it https://highline.huffingtonpost.com/articles/en/everything-you-know-about-obesity-is-wrong/
it is full of feels
the most interesting point i found from this is here:
> The most effective health interventions aren't actually health interventions—they are policies that ease the hardship of poverty and free up time for movement and play and parenting.

In Beto O'Rourke's own words #TXSenateDebate https://t.co/uUzW7DSqgo
strange for ted to be putting out pro-beto messaging like this
@TimStone it's the long game of the 1917 october revolution
you see it's all those people in HHS trying to help people keep their food stamps that are doing it

user15026
4:34 AM
@GodEmperorDune I know, but @Slowpoke pointed out our anthem's wording is very sdimilar in tone to the Pledge and so I paid attention tonight specifically to that

user15026
and it was weiiiiird

@Ash my bad, i missed that nuance
thanks for clarifying

What's really weird (to me) is that the French version isn't even the same song 🤔
Also I know it's a Tennyson reference and "true"-loyal not "true"-fact but the true north makes me giggle like Americans were all "Ah, we're north" and the Canadians clapped back with "you ain't seen shit"

user15026
4:54 AM
@TimStone I know and when people don't wanna sing the God bits they just swap to French and that's a weird discord

user15026
@TimStone child me always found that funny like that too

5:13 AM
in debate w/O’Rourke, Cruz says he’s a Republican because Rs supported the civil rights movement while Democrats in the South opposed it he claimed Martin Luther King would side w/him in opposing NFL athletes who kneel during National Anthem because King respected the flag
uhhhhh wut

Tanzania's President Magufuli calls for end to birth control: bbc.co.uk/news/amp/world-africa-45474408
> "They do not want to work hard to feed a large family. And that is why they opt for births controls and end up with one or two children only," he said.
Jesus christ
> Last year he proposed that pregnant schoolgirls be blocked from resuming their education after giving birth.

@GodEmperorDune You never go full D'Souza unless I guess you asked for him to be pardoned
This aside in a story about the prep school party scene during Kavanaugh’s time in school is a journey https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/100-kegs-or-bust-kavanaugh-friend-has-spent-years-writing-about-high-school-debauchery/2018/09/21/a8e0fe22-bb55-11e8-a8aa-860695e7f3fc_story.html?utm_term=.4d155d27fecf
Meanwhile in Tennessee GOP state Rep. David Byrd is set to win re-election despite several credible allegations that he sexually abused high schoolers he coached. https://twitter.com/MPRnews/status/1043229818496507904
The credible allegations include audio of him on the phone apologizing to a victim for doing it 🤷🏼‍♂️

1:36 PM
@TimStone Of course

1 hour later…
2:37 PM
BREAKING: A top adviser for the Senate Judiciary Committee working on Kavanaugh and Ford issues has resigned amid questions from NBC News about a previous sexual harassment complaint. By @HeidiPrzybyla https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/supreme-court/spokesman-gop-kavanaugh-nomination-resigns-has-been-accused-harassment-past-n912156
...Ah, well

user15026
@Wipqozn Well, this is a hot garbage pile

2:58 PM
@mattdpearce @elianayjohnson reports it's not clear when/if he left CRC but worked there as recently as July and "a source said Ventry had joined the Committee after the Federalist Society requested that CRC send somebody over to the Hill to help with the Kavanaugh nomination."
He's the one who said that the committee definitely had zero knowledge of Whelan's "big plan", a very believable statement now

@TimStone if that part turns out to actually have been coordinated, it'll be a huge mess.

@TimStone He's now resigned from CRC too
He was on a "leave of absence" for his part on the committee

3:19 PM
Wow weird that these guys who complain about activist judges boosting federalist society guys at all costs
Strange
IT'S REALLY ODD
I CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT

Likewise, "ALL MEN (WHO ARE IN MY SOCIAL CIRCLE) SHOULD BE AFRAID!"

I mean they should be
To be clear

Yeah, sorry, that's what I meant
It wasn't absurd it was just a factual statement because they all apparently have done it

3:31 PM
To be clear I wasn't the one that wanted an abortion, it was the writer of the article
Just in case there was any confusion
> Why, then, didn’t I want to be pregnant? I don’t believe anyone needs to justify this. But I am going to explain.
Emphasis mine. I absolutely love that, and it echoes strong with me.
Not the "I don't wanna be pregnant" part obviously
but just the general idea of not wanting kids, or anymore kids et cetera
I don't want kids. Just a whole lot of responsibility I personally don't want to take on, but you definitely get the pressure that you're expected to have kids. Someone once called me selfish for not wanting children. People suck.
Anyways, that's just an aside, but the article is a good read

user15026
@Wipqozn This makes me really fucking glad, as a human with a uterus, that I live in Ontario

@Ash That's the general theme it seems
"I was in Ontario, and decided to wait until I got home, and then I regretted everything*

user15026
"“It comes down to a lot of nitty-gritty details people don’t like to talk about in health care in Canada,”

user15026
SO MUCH THIS

user15026
It breaks my heart

user15026
3:36 PM
Like here we do have trouble sometimes with people getting access to the abortion pill (well actually it's more than one pill but that's semantics)

user15026
but we have the ability to access it, OHIP covers it

user15026
(and a local sexual health clinic is working to be able to provide it themselves instead of having to find you a specific doctor somewhere that can do it, as often that means going to Toronto)

It seems like a large part of NS problems is just our Doctor shortage too, which is a whole other kettle of fish
Basically NS has issues with abortions already, but the doctor shortage just compounds it

user15026
nods That likely adds to it in a large way

I'm grateful I have a family Doctor, that's for usre

3:38 PM
NS doctors are kettles of fish, data accepted

6:38 PM
BREAKING. Dr Ford accepts invitation to testify with more specifics to be negotiated and more concerns about the process.
Ahhhh that's the good stuff
"What if we enabled a thin-skinned fascist? Hahah wouldn't that be grand"
*several months later*
"Ah, well"

7:02 PM
Michael Bromwich, the former DOJ Inspector General, has formerly joined Christine Blasey Ford's legal team. He also currently represents Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.
Apparently in doing so he's resigned from his law firm over concerns about him representing her, but I'm unclear what that's about

2 hours later…
9:20 PM
> Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell claims that US President Donald Trump suggested Spain should build a wall across the Sahara desert to deal with the migrant crisis.

9:35 PM
Damn dude, I've been skeptical of Beto, but like
Beto O’Rourke was asked “What can you do for Black women in Texas?” This was his response. TEXAS BRING IT HOME! RETWEET THIS! https://t.co/xLXWYd1Kzv
dude
