I think this is a horrible answer. OP is Dutch with Indian heritage. You are telling a Dutch person to make fun of a stereotype on India's public transportation system and to mock their accent. An accent OP's parents might have. This is perpetuating the issue. — LVDV 1 min ago

A few things: 21 is not too old to live with your parents for economic reasons. He's fighting with them, sure, he's only 21, that's the way it goes. He's living rent-free, which usually is not worth it, but he's finding that out now. In fact, he needs to step up and fix the situation. 21 is not too old to live with his parents, but it is too old to be fighting with them every night, just because he wanted to save money on rent, and food. Plan it out, have compromise positions, make a lil presentation. Solve the problem. That's always the gig. — chiggsy 52 secs ago

@Hans1984 I don't believe in it either. Thinking "I can change him if I just love him enough" literally gets women killed. I then rang the school myself, and a guy answered and said he tried to call me (no mention of him not using the school phone). I told him that I was making a 4 hour booking and that I was owed 2 hours, the guy asked why - I explained and said that I rang the government agency who agreed that lunch / breaks aren't included in the course. He instantly agreed with me and charged me for 2 hours. This is all good advice... for avoiding the problem. I already know how to do that, and if that’s the best that can be done, so be it—but if your answer is that this is the best that can be done, you need to own that, say it explicitly and back it up. Otherwise, this isn’t really all that useful to me. — KRyan 1 min ago

@Astralbee I feel like you are unaware of modern boardgaming. There are a huge variety of games. Having elements of chance does not make a game based on chance. Being able to estimate and manipulate probabilities is often a part of the game. There are card games that allow you to build your own decks over the course of the game, or control what cards are available to other players. There are board games that use dice, but allow you to choose which dice to use. Its not just monopoly and chess. I think you have a good answer, but the first paragraph just seems ignorant of the hobby. — Tal 1 min ago

@DeNovo (2/2) The issue is not him not talking per se. It is him not talking even though he seems very talkative with other people. To be clear he does talk, but he uses minimum word responses that stop conversations. My judgement is definitely not completely accurate, but I can only base it on his actions including his body language and my experience. Also I'm not responsible for the fact that he doesn't own a car. So with the benefits removed, I don't see a good enough reason to continue the carpool group which at the end of the day only makes me feel bad and costs extra time. — John Brown 1 min ago

It sounds like your response (you expect mutual respect) suggests there is a way he could change his behavior that would make you happy with the arrangement. Is there? What would it be? This works if you have the personality for it. There's some people who can pull this off, and some who can't. I agree with Ontamu, if OP wishes to handle the situation delicately, making the joke stupid will put the guy off. I've used this tactic in many different situations, and usually after we have a silly laugh, the jokes stop. (Of course, there's always that -one- friend you have to tell directly...) — NOP 1 min ago

@MasonWheeler and Jack: Abusive people can change if you are willing to put in a monumental effort to help them change. I started responding to my spouse's abuse with unconditional love even in the middle of active abuse, and this made it difficult for her to deny. Once she admitted she was abusive (and now admits it openly, even to others), it was a difficult but given step from admittance to desire to fix. Not saying it's guaranteed to always work, but unconditional mountains of love worked for us. It took years, but I would no longer say I'm abused. — Aaron 2 mins ago

Is your question "how to win an argument"? In my experience it is rude to point out peoples' childlessness, in particular because you rarely know the circumstances behind other people having or not having children. It is also not very persuasive to start out by presuming someone else couldn't know. You would be better off starting from yourself, and sharing sympathy for those who may have made tragic mistakes rather than contempt for those who can't see themselves making the same ones. — Bryan Krause 1 min ago
