As someone who has demonstrated behavior similar to OP's SO in the past, the first paragraph is spot-on. I enjoy heavily skill-based games, and I often win, but I get immensely frustrated when a low-probability random-chance element ruins my plans. The rest of the answer doesn't offer any guidance in this case, though. — starchild 1 min ago

@tal you're right that it comes off as ignorant of the hobby, but it comes to an accurate conclusion regardless. Skill-based games with some small chance element can be the most upsetting. In my experience, the more painstaking effort I put into controlling for the probabilities in a game, the more frustrating it is when random-chance defies my plans anyway. If I have a 50% success chance, I can expect and deal with failure. If I've manipulated the odds to get a 98% success chance, and I fail anyway, I'm ready to flip the table (figuratively). — starchild 10 secs ago

sounds to me you already messed up the relationship -- unfortunately this is the reality of your situation: 1) you're a minor, and 2) when you break a law your parents are held responsible, as a result 3) in the United States you have no privacy -- your parents are REQUIRED to decide for you. if i were your parent i'd give you an old flip phone and say i'd "lift the reigns" when you turn 18 when you can break the law and i would no longer be held responsible for YOUR actions. children fail to understand this clearly (a by-product of a 'developing brain') and take it personal. but it's not. — Shaun Wilson 50 secs ago

Do you know by any chance of there are significant women in the life of your colleagues? Do they have families? In my experience large software companies like to draw a certain demographic that isn't that great with some parts of human interaction. While I think that this information is crucial, it might help to guess how much of this is due to things you cannot change like your gender — Raditz_35 1 min ago

I didn't disagree that I needed more lessons - after the weekend, we hadn't been out on the road - the law says the course must have x amount of hours on the road. The issue is that he's asking me to pay for the extra hours we need to do - which is fine. The issue I have is that over the weekend, we did ~16 hours of coursework but I paid for a course that should have 18 hours of coursework. — user21741 32 secs ago

Concerning seeing it from their perspective, OP is 16. That's not far from being a grownup where they have to be trusted (more or less). From the parents view, it's a difference between gradually preparing OP "for the real world" and thus also gradually trusting them more - or going on with "control mode" and then having to relinquish all of that control in a sudden shock, which is gonna create a sub-optimal "kid in a candy store" situation. This is from another IPS question which I can't find right now and I can't write it as well, but I hope the point is understood. — R. Schmitz 33 secs ago

Sounds like you guys have common friends. Does he behave like that towards them as well? Is it possible to talk with them about it? Hope it helps! — Storm 1 min ago

I don't think that doing some requirement engineering on those rules to the point where you can write a Christian priester program gets the op any closer to getting the room. Technically this answers the question, but it would also suggest a complete lack of any Christian background and surely would expose the op as someone just wanting a cheap room. Those rooms are cheap and available for a reason - they don't let anyone walk in there, ask to specify what is Christian, then say they can do that for a while and that's that. They are really, really picky — Raditz_35 2 mins ago

I see what you are saying, but you have to consider the other side too. Your best outcome(you winning perfectly) is your opponents worst and coincidentally the one you hate the most(small chance of comeback, because opponent played perfectly). But I get your general sentiment of being stuck in an already finished game(risk, monopoly comes to mind). But we usually don't play such kinds of games, but more complex games where it is not obvious what is happening at all times. — Hakaishin 5 secs ago

@SSight3 You started this thread with the false "'elderly' as assumed here", which was not the case. raisin then draws conclusions from her correct reading of the OP and her own first-hand experiences ("Visitors would attest that they were always that way"). You can surely find cases where personality did change, but that doesn't invalidate this answer. (Note that raisin talks about unspecified cognitive issues, not specifically about Alzheimers.) — Peter A. Schneider 1 min ago

Fine answer, but 2 years later the OP will have to learn a whole different set of interpersonal skills. I can't imagine having to justify to another human being why I should be able to freely use something that I bought completely on my own. I don't know how I feel about this so I'm going to neither up- nor down-vote it, but I wanted to note one thing. You say: "Stop treating your girlfriend as your equal." but I would argue that your advice is exactly the opposite, DO start treating his girlfriend as your equal. In other words, having every bit as much right to autonomy and control over her life, her actions, and her possessions as he has. Calling her and making plans about how to use HER account to pay for things, regardless the justification or details, ISN'T treating her as an equal. It's not a shared account, it's hers alone. — FeRD 37 secs ago
