10:00 AM
@avazula By the way, may I ask what languages you speak other than French and English? I am very interested in languages, but I only know English. =)

JAD
but to take chickens for example
they quote 8b chicken a year in the US
that's 30 per capita.
that's only a fraction of a thousand.

I eat the same thing every day: rice, egg, spinach, and chicken.

Anyway guys, (I think we deviated a lot from the original discussion haha), I think we've come a long way for now, and I'm not sure this is the place to discuss that. It's great that @Belle-Sophie could reduce her grocery expenses :) if you're interested in pursuing the conversation, I invite you to tell me, and I'll create a dedicated room.

@avazula Yeah, this comparison tend to forget that holocaust was about hate when we do with animals is more about... not careing I guess

@Noon I'd rather say specism?

10:03 AM
Regardless of whether we should kill animals or not, there are way too many animals on the world at the moment. We can probably keep a lot less to give all of them better quality of life. There's no need to make anyone feel bad for being vegan, vegatarian, omnivore, meat-eater or whatever :)

JAD
@avazula this. People are going to care more about human lives than animal lives. Inevitably.
bbl lunch

@avazula Yep! New topic. How about crochet?

What is crochet?

@avazula well, yes

Oh OK.

10:06 AM
(not necesarly about pokemon though)

@JAD enjoy! :)

@Belle-Sophie How did you learn crochet?

@JasperLoy (a bit late) I'm speaking French, I'm bilingual in English and fluent in German, I can have casual conversations in Japanese and Polish and I know a few Hungarian words.
@Noon they're so cute!

I know!

@avazula Oh OK. I want to learn many languages but have not started at all, lol. Now surely you have heard of Assimil?

10:08 AM
make me want to do crochet ^^

@JasperLoy Yeah, my mother has some of them. I have one for advanced German :)

@Noon Youtube :)

@Noon have you ever tried?

@avazula I got the Assiml courses for English speakers: French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish. The new versions for French speakers have beautiful covers! They replaced the cube with buildings.

My mother tought me how to knit and I picked crochet up on my own when one of my knitting projects required a crochet cast-on.

10:10 AM
@Noon That Oddish is amazing :)

@avazula Nop, but maybe I should go to youtube and learn like Belle ^^

Youtube is really useful for learning things!

@avazula Yes, that must be Perfectionnement Allemand.

@Belle-Sophie Yup. I learned to waste my time on it.
lol
@JasperLoy surely.

@avazula The Assimil books are very expensive on amazon.com, but they have the usual price on amazon.fr, the last time I checked.

10:13 AM
@Tinkeringbell I must admit, I like Charmander more, so much cuteness :p

Oh I did not realise I spent an hour talking in this room already, lol.

@Noon I've never been able to find a really great Pikachu pattern. That oddish really looks like an oddish ;) The Charmanders are cute, but a bit the same: They don't really look a charmander that much (head too big, body not the right shape)...
@JasperLoy Time flies when you're awkwardly silent :P

@Tinkeringbell I see you changed your picture to a parrot. I remember the one in which you were wearing glasses and carrying a frame. =)

@Tinkeringbell That's true, but I guess it's what make them so cute

I'm actually knitting a cardigan for myself at the moment. People have asked if I'm pregnant, because they think I'm making baby clothes...
I like knitting outside, on a bench in the park or something. It's relaxing.

10:21 AM
@Tinkeringbell Before I decide to join IPS or not, may I ask if the answers here are meant to be more opinion-based than the other SE sites? I don't see how they can be fact-based so much.

@JasperLoy We require answers to "back it up". There's a few questions on it on meta. It comes down to the following: an answer needs to provide references. Personal experience is okay, as long as the answerer explains how it relates and explains how and why their answer works.

@JasperLoy I personally like to see answers written from experience or with sources, like described here. But the last attempt to make that a requirement still had too much pushback from people that wanted to post opinions. At the very least, try and explain why you're suggesting what you're suggesting, and back up your opinion with reasoning.

@Tinkeringbell Ha, I was faster! ;) you got the links though

As a more concrete example: Half (or even more) of the answers to my latest question aren't really helpful or even useful, as they don't take into account what is and isn't acceptable in the Netherlands or just disregard the goal I wanted to reach entirely... and they're nothing more than opinions on 'people should or shouldn't be able to take the seats they want in the theater'... :/

Ah, don't worry. My opinions are very reasonable and will take into account everything in the question. =)
But I guess it's not a site where you can always link to say a Wikipedia article or an online dictionary.

10:28 AM
@JasperLoy not always, but that happens :)

I see the last two questions got many downvotes and have been put on hold, lol. So scary...

@JasperLoy Hmm. The -7 one has a history. -2 isn't too bad IMO ;)
@JasperLoy I'm working on a FAQ part on writing answers now... But it's much slower progress than the one I did on questions ;)

@Tinkeringbell Very good! Now I know why they made you a moderator, lol.

I think they did because tinkeringbell is omnipresent on the site

@JasperLoy They made me a mod because I was complaining too much :P

10:40 AM
On any given post there's some tinkeringbell in there somewhere

@Magisch I know. I need to get a real life and try those skills outside sometimes :P

@Magisch The only time I see omnipresent being used is when they talk about God, but now I see it being used on @Tinkeringbell too.
@avazula By the way, is it because of a French convention in writing emails that someone might say something like "we remain at your disposal" at the end of an email?

@JasperLoy huh, it's true that in French this is how an email should end. I guess it's equivalent to "let me know if you need anything" but idk if it's used in English for that context

10:45 AM
@avazula I see. I asked because that's what Assimil always says when I email them. =)

@Tinkeringbell bows

@Tinkeringbell So your name is Rianne?

@JasperLoy Yep :)

@Tinkeringbell Mine either means "rebellion" or "lady of the sea". Feels powerful

@avazula May I ask if Ava Zula is your actual name?

10:47 AM
@JasperLoy It's not :)
I'm Marie

I see. I will try to remember all your names. =)

I guess you're Jasper?
@JasperLoy pseudos are fine :)

Yes.

@JasperLoy I'm actually Isabella Garcia-Shapiro. Or Gandalf. :P
2

ok then. Funny that on SO or TWP people tend to use their real name but not on other stacks

10:49 AM
I had some other usernames in the past, like Will Hunting, or Jason Bourne, or James Bond, or Clark Kent, or Jacob Black, but you will know they are not me because they are all movie characters. =)

JAD
@avazula I used to use my own name

@Mithrandir You got me ._.

JAD
now it's just my initials

I really thought you were responding to Isabella haha

@avazula No, I think on each SE site there is a good combination of both cases. But on Math Overflow most names are real because it is a very serious site for research mathematicians.

JAD
10:50 AM
@JasperLoy MathSE and Academics also have a bit of this effect

@Mithrandir I didn't know that Gandalf could turn himself into Isabella. =)

never underestimate the power of a maia

@JAD Interestingly, I find the questions on Academia SE very silly. Many of them are how to relate to professors or students. It's like these academics have no Interpersonal Skills. =)

That's something I find so weird in chats. Getting to know and like people but not knowing anything about their identity.
@JasperLoy they should come by and say hi lol
Hi @Jalap :)

@avazula (The ambiguity is perfectly intentional, on my part.)

10:54 AM
@avazula Do you say hi to everyone who comes in?

@Mithrandir And I get that :)
@JasperLoy I try to be welcoming and make people comfortable about the awkward silence ;)

@avazula haha

@avazula I see. I thought I was special, lol.

on the internet nobody knows you're actually an antrophomorphic cactus

@Magisch Shapeshifter! You used to be a joyful yellow ball!

10:55 AM
@Magisch There are bots that can talk like humans.

JAD
@JasperLoy eh yes, I tend to agree

I am going to eat dinner now, bye bye.

@JasperLoy yeah, that's not really the case here. Look:
o/
Oh come on @Pseudohuman

...Make my day.
(according to the character Harry Callahan, played by Clint Eastwood, in the 1983 film Sudden Impact)

@JasperLoy enjoy :)

JAD
10:56 AM
There's also this tendency that a stack generates. At one point most questions here on IPS were "Is X polite?" On Academics it is "Is X ethical?". On TWP everybody should just quit and get another job

@JasperLoy Such bots often resent being called "bots".

what the heck?

smokey developing a personality again

Good lord

(full disclosure: that was me)

11:00 AM
@Mithrandir Behind the bot?

Yep.

Who are you? ._.

JAD
:shakes wrist angrily:
damn whippersnappers

Which reminds me, I should set up Alqualondë again.
@avazula A Smokey runner :D I run Smokey instances at times, so I have the credentials. Also, a prankster. ;P

A J
@SmokeDetector I know. You're either Mithrandir or ArtOfCode. :P
@Mithrandir HA. I knew that!!

11:02 AM
Hi @AJ!

A J
Good evening!

@AJ 'fternoon. I might've just filled up the comment flag queue...

@Mithrandir young person, that's not a way to greet someone!

:P
"Hey, good afternoon, @AJ. Sorry 'bout all the flags that I just filled up the queue with..."

JAD
@Mithrandir now get to work :cracks whip:

11:10 AM
I got so much in common with people here :D I'm Isabelle Sophie Marie. Somehow Belle-Sophie stuck with my friends, but that gets shortened to Belle pretty often.

JAD
@Belle-Sophie so you got the same name as @Mithrandir's profile picture :D

Hi @avazula :)
hello everyone else :)

How are you?

A J
@Mithrandir Hmm. lemme see it. Holyy <whatever>!!! :P

Mods are our overlords and slaves at the same time.

11:15 AM
good - just job searching like crazy :(
really desperate for money right now ...

I'm sure you'll find soon pal :)

@avazula thanks :) I sure hope so
I want offers from around the world, like you get ;)

@JalapenoNachos are you on linkedin?
LinkedIn and Monster helped me a lot

yeah, but I don't post my info on it ... I feel it's too public
Oo interesting
I've been using Indeed.com
and a little bit of glassdoor.com
@avazula I guess I could try LinkedIn - wouldn't hurt, if you're saying it help you a lot :)
I'll write up my profile today, after breakfast
and after some hot chocolate, @Chilly ;)

@JalapenoNachos That's from where I got those offers abroad. Monster helped me in France.
Hi @Chilly! :)

11:20 AM
ah, interesting -- I thought monster was a dinosaur of a website by now
i'll check monster too then

I just had dinner, lol.

@JalapenoNachos don't know how it's going in the US

@avazula This guy is a real hyperpolyglot: foreignlanguageexpertise.com he can speak over 60 languages fluently Alexander Arguelles

@JasperLoy If you also count all the languages I can code I'm close to 20 then xD

@avazula I don't know any programming language. I can't even type LaTeX properly.

11:25 AM
@JasperLoy That's normal - LaTeX looks like it's not been designed to be written properly.

@JasperLoy as someone currently programming latex templates for business reports: latex is not supposed to be used "properly"

JAD
@Magisch sounds fun

i am allergic to LaTeX

I like LaTex :)
wrote my thesis in it

i need cotton gloves when i code in that

11:35 AM
should I even put LaTex on my resume? hmm
i only have Matlab and MS office
for my computer skills
:(
Matlab, LaTex, MS Office haha ... I feel unemployable

JAD
you could. I doubt any nontechnical company is going to give a sh*t about it though

@JalapenoNachos you know me so well, had a cup already this morning ;)

nice @Chilly :)

@avazula Hello there dear!

11:38 AM
@JalapenoNachos Why not put it? If you have room for it, I don't see how it can harm and some people might be impress

@noon ok, will do :)

@JalapenoNachos In what field do you work?

@Chilly how are you doing?

@Noon I currently work in an applied math lab, supposed to be working on a publication but am looking to leave for a job that pays me (I'm working unfunded on some cool research), so, we're not great coders ...
@Chilly will soon be Chillin' at Chilly's Castle for the new academic year

@avazula I'm pretty okay, thanks for asking! Living for my lunch right now to be honest and looking forward to meeting one of my friends tonight, how're you?

11:43 AM
@Chilly Food is life o_o I'm good, thanks :)

@JalapenoNachos Cannot wait for it! I was in touch with the management company today and they were telling me that some of the apartments have been completely refurbished and I'll be put in one of those! SO excited!

A J
It reminds me an old saying.

@Chilly luxury! :D

@JalapenoNachos It's sound cool but, yes, people need money... (I hope one day basic income will be a reality basicincome.org/basic-income )

@Chilly that sounds amazing :)

A J
11:44 AM
> You eat food to live, not live to eat!

@avazula I think my bf would be saddened by the fact I may love my lunch more than him right now xD I'm glad to hear it :)

@JalapenoNachos Better than me. I don't know Matlab and I can't even use MS Office properly.

I'm supposed to be a programmer, but I'm not actually good with computers

Yeah, programming is different from computer science after all.

@Noon Basic Income sounds intriguing (I'll read that website in more detail later today)

11:48 AM
@Belle-Sophie with computers or computing? That's different things xD

@JasperLoy are you in math and science?

@avazula I don't know the difference. I'm pretty good at letting my computer crash and stuff, though! And not being able to connect to the internet and stuff like that.

@JalapenoNachos Me? I am just a SE user. =)

@JasperLoy nice :) I wonder if we should put that on our resume too?

@JalapenoNachos Nope!

11:51 AM
Matlab, LaTex, MS Office, Stack Exchange Troll
haha jk jk

JAD
@JalapenoNachos if you have a significant contribution on sites related to the company you're applying to, go for it

@Belle-Sophie Haha, I get you! I feel like I'm cursed, all my devices become asthmatic after a while

JAD
In other news, I just opened a .ppt file and it just crashed
:/

@JAD true true

@Belle-Sophie You're not the only one, I'm super awesome at infinite loops that eventually make everything crash

I'm supposed to be good at computers

@Magisch I think most of us in here are to be honest

but a while ago I misconnected the motherboard connector pins and the reset button worked as on button and vice versa because of it

JAD
lol
you know there is a manual that tells you which pin goes where right?

@JAD Trying to follow the link, it keeps timing out on me ><

JAD
11:55 AM
sec
> changes it to thing - 49

>Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I once had some code that looked a lot like it. Something like
value + 1 - 1

@JAD brilliant

It crashed if I removed it

JAD
D:

Some people take the magic number thing to extremes though... If you have a method 'setSomeNumberValueForThisPropery(3)'... they'd first make a 'NumberForThisProperty' variable :/

11:59 AM
magicNumber = 3
return magicNumber
Or explain the value in a comment like this one:

I'm heading for my lunch, talk to you guys later!

To be fair this is actual code I have written (read copy-pasted from SO) for my work:
for (char c : s.toCharArray()) {
if(c == 10) {
out.append("\\\\line ");
} else if(c == 9) {
out.append("\\\\tab ");
} else if(c == '\r'){
//doe niets
} else if(c == 92) {
out.append("\\\\\\\\");
} else if(c == 123) {
out.append("\\\\{");
} else if(c == 125) {
out.append("\\\\}");
} else if(c < 127) {
out.append(c);
} else {
short c1 = (short) c;
out.append("\\\\u").append(c1).append('?');
}
}
got to love them magic numbers
Doubled the doubled escapes because java ¯'_(ツ)_/¯

@Chilly enjoy! :)

Haha, first I go for dinner then Chilly goes for lunch.
Who's going for breakfast next???

sure, I'll have some after-lunch breakfast.

12:08 PM
@JasperLoy I suspect I'm closer to your timezone then so not I ;p

so long @Chilly!

JAD
@Tinkeringbell I just tend to create a magic number static class :P

@JourneymanGeek I think it has been established 9000 years ago that we live in the same place, shh...

@JasperLoy I'm going for breakfast in a few minutes :)

ah same country you mean lol

12:09 PM
cinnamon oatmeal today mmm

UNLESS YOU ARE MY ROOM MATE IN DISGUISE

eggs, bacon, oatmeal, OJ - then skipping lunch and dinner
97 degrees here today, 100+ heat index

I skipped breakfast but I had lunch. Can I go back and have breakfast?

@Belle-Sophie yes, breakfast all day at mcdonald's - YOLO, ya know?

12:11 PM
@AJ the allcaps were intentional and I held down my shift key like a civilised person.
(my capslock is disabled)

@JalapenoNachos I want an egg mc muffin now

@JourneymanGeek I like this chat (and esp. the people in there) more and more everyday
Feels like home

@Belle-Sophie go for it :)

@avazula oh, were you the one who just followed me on twitter? ;p

@JalapenoNachos We don't have all day breakfast at mcd here :( I'll need to wait till tomorrow morning.
Heck, we don't have a mcd here

12:13 PM
@Belle-Sophie See, this is why indians have a tradition called "Tiffin"

I'll have to go to the next island

@JourneymanGeek Sssh... The cake is a lie...

its basically breakfast at Teatime.

@Belle-Sophie this is why I love the Nt

Tiffin is an Indian English word for a type of meal. It can refer to the midday luncheon or, in some regions of the Indian subcontinent, a between meal snack , or in South Indian usage, a light breakfast. When used in place of the word "lunch", it does not necessarily mean a light meal. == History and etymology == In the British Raj, where the British custom of afternoon tea was supplanted by the Indian practice of having a light meal at that hour, it came to be called tiffin. It is derived from English colloquial or slang tiffing meaning to take a little drink, and had by 1867 become naturalised...

12:13 PM
@Belle-Sophie island? where are you from?

and tiffin foods are breakfast foods.

@JalapenoNachos Netherlands

ah, ok :)

We actually have a McDonalds on the island I live on, but not on the one I work on, which is 3 islands over.
@JourneymanGeek Like crumpets?

@Belle-Sophie indian stuff
so pancakes. Stuffed with mashed potato

12:15 PM
That. Sounds. Amazing.

JAD
@Belle-Sophie It amazes me how "rural" Zeeland is given its proximity to the randstad

Masala dosa or masale dose is a variation of the popular South Indian food dosa, which has its origins in Tuluva Mangalorean cuisine. It is made from rice, lentils, potato, methi, and curry leaves, and served with chutneys and sambar. Though it was only popular in South India, it can be found in all other parts of the country and overseas. In South India, preparation of masala dosa varies from city to city. == Preparation == Masale dose is stuffed dose. The two parts are the dose and the stuffing. The dose is made in the usual way by soaking rice and lentils overnight in water and then grinding...
I'm sorry ;)

A J
@JourneymanGeek My favorite South Indian dish. ;)

@AJ I have not met anyone who hates it

A J
I don't know if there is anyone.

12:17 PM
@JourneymanGeek Well.... I don't hate it... I don't like it either :P
I just never have eaten it :P

I like tikka masala, but never had masala dosa
Is it comparable?

not at all
Tikka Masala is chicken curry with campbells tomato soup.

A J
@Tinkeringbell try it. go to Singapore. :P

@AJ When? I don't have any vacation days left till the first of october ;)

A masala in this case is spiced mashed potatos (but not very hot) and its inside an indian savory crepe

12:20 PM
I really need a vacation. I was gonna go to east-Europe, but I may need to go to Asia...

A J
@Tinkeringbell Oh October. Come here to celerate Diwali. ;)

@AJ what's Diwali?

@avazula vaguely our equivilent of christmas.

ok. gonna look it up online :)

@JourneymanGeek Do you mean the Hindu equivalent and not something else equivalent?

12:22 PM
Also celebrates someone killing his own uncle, but that's ok cause the uncle tried to kill him first as a baby and was a bit of a terrible person.
He then went on to not stop a massive war....
@JasperLoy point

A J
huh?

Its basically the "big" hindu/indian festival ;)
@AJ Krishna totally could have stopped the whole Mahabharata war from happening ;)

@JourneymanGeek But to add, neither Diwali no Christmas is the new year of any calendar. They are just important dates.

Never said it was
new years in india depends on region anyway

A J
@JourneymanGeek ohh

12:25 PM
@JourneymanGeek Never said you said so, but you never said I said that.
@AJ Wait, you are in the same place as @JourneymanGeek?

A J
@JasperLoy nah

but we vaguely have similarish cultures

Oh OK. I like to keep my location a secret. So I just say I am from Antarctica if anyone asks.

@Tinkeringbell If you want to go India: vakantiepiraten.nl/vakanties/…

A J
12:32 PM
can't you post a link to an English site? :P

@Belle-Sophie I'm not going to pirate to India :P

Just get a plane ticket. Don't take a pirated boat and then sink
This year, so many boats sank and so many people died.

@AJ holidaypirates.com is their English equivalent

A J
I live here, so I don't need it. :P

If you want to find your local version to the blog: holidaypirates.group
Only Europe/US sadly. It's a really nice blog.

12:38 PM
Does anyone here know any good website talking about sleep?
I wanna know if 8 hours sleep with no naps is really the best.

Interestingly, they only get commission for part of their deals. While most travel agents get commission for everything, holidaypirates is a traveldeal blog in the first place and a travel agent second. I like the concept :)

@Belle-Sophie I had a wee read, but I don't think I am their target audience...

@RoryAlsop That's okay :) I personally like them, but it's not for everyone. Why is that, if I may ask?

@Belle-Sophie the blog is okay, but those kind of holidays are not my thing

1:25 PM
Good morning. Day 2 of internship work :)

@ElizB Morning :) How's it going for you?

@Chilly Going alright. A bit sleepy and unsure of where to start. I'll figure it out in a few minutes, just gotta get my bearings

@ElizB Understandable. You'll soon get into the swing of things

Yeah, it's a new project but feels like the same effort all over again. It was not that long ago I was stressed out about finishing this.
@Chilly the project for my last internship, that is.

I get you, projects are tough sometimes :s you'll get there though, just remember to take a minute if it starts to get on top of you

1:36 PM
Yeah. What i gotta do is just break it up in smaller parts. (Deep breath) Okay. That's doable. I'm also still recovering from finding out that the school bill got higher because I registered for my internship. Basically here, we have to pay for earning credit through internships.
I got a pretty bad panic attack last night from that news. The budget is even tighter now, and we might have to borrow a little money. We'll see.

@ElizB :( I'm with you gal

exactly, one bit at a time and before you know it you'll be out the other side of all this stress! I feel you there, I've had so many panic attacks over the cost of education it's ridiculous. We'll all get through it though <3

Thanks. I guess that's what comes with "Life" heh. One more year of education-related panic attacks... :P
I am hoping to graduate in May.

I used to eat pasta every month after the 15th for quite a long time. It'll get better :)
it sucks how money can be stressful

Yeah it does. Before that registration me and hubby budgeted and figured we'd be okay. now, it's like we really need to be careful. Cash-only spending for food, smart choices, etc

1:42 PM
@ElizB cash only spending is a really handy thing to do, I find it super helpful for sticking to budgets

JAD
@Chilly hmm, OTOH having all spending on a bank account makes it very easy to create the exact overview of transactions

@Chilly Yes, it really helps. I read somewhere that it triggers a neurological "pain" response when you give the cash to pay for whatever it is, causing you to think twice about what you really need and want.

That's true too.. I guess whatever works best is different for everyone!

@JAD Yeah, that's true but the card swiping doesn't have the same trigger in the brain.

JAD
analyse the bank account to gain insight, then use cash to put it in practise

1:46 PM
Funny enough, cash has the opposite effect on me. Since it's already withdrawn, there's "no problem" spending it xD

That's why credit card debt is easier to accumulate than cash debt

@ElizB That's what I read too and there's certainly something to it, I always think for a while about what I do and don't actually need

JAD
@ElizB uhm, I'd say that's more because cash runs out more than a credit card does

Cash=If you have it, you can spend it. If you don't... outta luck. Credit card=delayed payment, less thought of how much money was actually spent, easy to accumulate debt. If you don't have money in the account but predict you might... credit card comes in to "save you"

JAD
yep

1:50 PM
@ElizB It's best to never spend anything on credit, always pay in full! =)

Q: How to stop unwanted advice about my pet?

cluelessMe and my partner have an indoor cat. She stays in our apartment except when we are away travelling, then we take her to my partner's parents to look after her until we get back (this happens 2-3 times a year for about a week or less at a time). Both the parents are very fond of her and especiall...

@JAD Yup! exactly my point. so i'm basically parenting myself when I tell myself that I want to buy fall flowers- and can only spend six dollars or less.
@JasperLoy Big purchases that I know I can pay off is what I spend it on.

OK, so I went to this Apple store that day and the guy told me if I pay in cash there is a 3 per cent discount.
I was like WTF if I use a card there is no discount and now I have to draw so much cash.
What if I get robbed at the machine?

JAD
doesn't withdrawing cash cost (quite a bit) of money in the US?

I am not in the US.

JAD
1:52 PM
I'm assuming US because of credit cards
ah mb
at least, withdrawing cash from CCs then?

@JasperLoy are you Canadian my friend?
lol

But then it's still strange. Why is there a discount for cash?

JAD
@JasperLoy because CC tend to cost the vendor money

@avazula Nope. I can only share my real location in email. =)

@JasperLoy because that way they're sure you can and will pay
@JasperLoy haha

JAD
1:53 PM
@avazula for CC that doesn't really matter, because whether you can and will pay is the bank's business

@avazula Hmm but you see the card I use is of the kind that cannot be used if there is no money inside.

@JAD huh. never thought of it that way.

@JasperLoy A debit card?

@Chilly Something like that.

@JasperLoy (a bit late) I google "polyphasic sleep" and found that : medicalnewstoday.com/articles/319425.php don't know if it help

JAD
1:54 PM
@JasperLoy IIRC, banks charge the vendor for a transaction, so it's cheaper for them to not wire the transaction through CC if they can

@Noon Yeah I read that in the past people slept 4 hours and then woke up for 2 hours and then slept 4 hours again.
@JAD Ah maybe, and different cards will have different per cent charge.

JAD
yep

@JasperLoy I use a debit card :) I never use a credit card if I can avoid it, I don't want to be stuck trying to pay something back if I can avoid it

Another thing I notice is this. Most online stores first accept Visa, then MasterCard, then American Express. Some don't accept the third one.

JAD
Netherlands (and a lot of europe) are more debit card focused than credit card
over here you can pay almost anywhere with debit card, while CC is a lot more precarious

1:58 PM
@JAD Huh, interesting. Learned something new today :)

@JAD I would go as far as to say the majority of Europe is more debit card focused to be honest. Like if you want a credit card here in Ireland, unless you're a major spender, banks will charge you insane amounts for having a credit card and for any small purchases you use them for

JAD
@Chilly yeah, only exception I know of is the UK
was almost impossible to pay there with a debit card :/
