he has to first win the Republican Primary doesn't he? who gets to vote in that?

@Yuuki he's deleted the tweets now
@Memor-X mainly republican voters
it is highly unlikely for a sitting president to lose their re-election primary, but i think it has happened before
i don't think it will happen to trump though
his base are the only ones who love him
if he's going to be defeated, it will have to be in the general

The Griffin, a bar in L.A., shut its doors tonight after getting backlash over a Proud Boys gathering there last night.
1. In a report released late last week, Trump’s WH declared the War on Poverty “largely over and a success.” The report is literally page after page of gaslighting the very real hardship faced by tens of millions of Americans struggling to afford food, housing, healthcare & more.
goddammit

@GodEmperorDune "don't let some of their friends in so they end up going outside to argue about it" is honestly a pretty great tactic

@GodEmperorDune I really hate clickbait headlines. Quit making it sound like they closed for good
@GodEmperorDune And so, since the war on poverty is won, we can now cut foodstamps programs!

@SaintWacko sorry, i thought it was clear that it was not permanent
@SaintWacko sadly, that's the plan

@GodEmperorDune Sorry, that wasn't aimed at you, but at the writer of the tweet. Maybe it's just me, but when I hear "shut its doors" I interpret that as closing permanently

@SaintWacko yeah they should have made it more clear that it was just for the night

@Ash yeah i was def in the wrong then

@GodEmperorDune hey, no worries, you were just sharing a thing

@GodEmperorDune I'll never forgive you. I feel so betrayed.

3:09 PM
@Ash Me too. And he has definitely shown off so much garbage these days.

It's a good thing 2 minutes doesn't apply to be anymore, because I'm terrible at phone typing in chat

Lots of commotion in the room at the Trump-Putin presser right now. Someone who was holding up a sign is being forcibly removed -- lot of struggle as they wrestled the paper away from him.

@Wipqozn wow, kinda surprising n bomb there

@Niro Also, Mr. Rogers was a minister. There are certainly many Christian Democrats but it's not the most popular party for them even then.

@TimStone Seems it was just a journalist hoping to hold up the sign to solicit a question? :|

3:14 PM
@TimStone oh no, we can't have that

#Putin: Cold war and ideological battle is a thing of the past
trolololol

cold war maybe

@GodEmperorDune right. I'd add a language warning if I wasn't on my phone.
Maybe @Ash can help otherwise I'll just delete it

@Unionhawk I'm glad to have all the opinions out there, minority or not. You do a good job of contributing those regardless, thanks.

@Wipqozn its a good story otherwise imo

3:19 PM
Wow. Putin hails the Iran Deal's move towards denuclearization.
loool
Putin also saying that Russia has never ever interfered with any other country's election and it'd be super great to analyze all the findings in a joint cybersecurity forum

that's also definitely not true even if they didn't mess with us
0% chance

Trump: "Our relationship has never been worse than it is now. However, that changed about four hours ago."
Did we give them Alaska? We probably gave them Alaska
Trump: Putin has “an interesting idea” about who’s behind interference in US election.
Oh god

,,,the freakin democrats did it

.@BuzzFeedBen: "Do you think Vladimir Putin has anything on him?" @SenJeffMerkley: "I think it's likely." ... Smith: "Your view is that the pee tape is real?" Merkley: "Something close to that. Something close to that." From @AM2DM: https://t.co/KX0LjRy04s
"I'm sure we'll be meeting again in the future -- often," Trump says of Putin.
🤷
This is pretty Not Good. His composure here versus the shitshow he put on at NATO, urgh

@GodEmperorDune Yeah it conveys it's point fairly effectively. I do disagree on the "otherwise", though, since I think the slur is used for the very specific purpose of conveying the mindset of racists. I don't think the story would be as effective without it. That said I certainly understand the argument for excluding it.
@TimStone He gets along much better with dictators than anyone else. It's blatantly obvious he prefers their company and how their countries are run.
At first I thought it was just a case of Trump thinking he could just shit on his allies and get away with it, whereas he needed to be nice to his enemies... but I no longer think that's the case

3:34 PM
!!!
Ajit Pai did a not-terrible thing?

I think he just prefers the company of Putin and Kim

@TimStone this sounds pretty absurd, but I've decided not to watch that press conference, I really need those few remaining brain cells

#BREAKING: FCC chairman rejects Sinclair purchase of Tribune Media http://hill.cm/G0DPJlm

@TimStone wait what, the FCC's doing their job?

Maybe he realised all his kickbacks won't be as useful if the country goes completely to the wolves
@MadScientist In that case I apologise in advance for this next tweet
When asked if he blames Russia for anything Trump said he "holds both countries responsible" and "we are all to blame."

3:35 PM
@Wipqozn see below

@TimStone how is this posible?

reading them is okay, I just can't stand actually hearing him anymore

It's one of those things that is not wrong but is not something you say

> And Trump has lavished praise on his Russian counterpart for years—long before he was in office and the pretext of diplomacy could be invoked—even singling out his “strength over his country” and comparing his leadership favorably to then-President Barack Obama.

@TimStone what?!

3:37 PM
Here it is: POTUS attacks Mueller probe while standing beside Putin. Wow.
Trump, a reason why Democrats lost an election, EC much more advantageous to Democrats. We won EC by a lot. That was a well-fought battle.
(she's paraphrasing what he's saying, to make it easier to parse)
He's literally in Finland standing next to Putin talking about the effin' map

Yeah, that took me awhile.

throws a table

But of course he's talking about his Electoral College victory.

this just proves that he's doing russia stuff all the time and that the investigation is super important

I still don't know if those 12 and a half minutes are good or goodly terrible and I'm not sure I want to find out

3:40 PM
they're good

Putin's now like "Look if we colluded show me the evidence? You can't, journalists. Checkmate"

It's one of the Jons (I don't know which is which) talking about how oh man this hearing was so good, and then a guest goes in like "this is something that white people care a lot about, but uh, we've got more pressing issues here"

Putin says he'll "Look into it" RE: the Russian agents, claiming we can send an official request for extradition which we have for the earlier case and it doesn't matter because the Russian constitution doesn't allow that anyway

3:43 PM
@TimStone mueller just laid out the evidence on friday tho

loooooooool remember this bro?

@TimStone yes, what has he done now?

He wrote a literal Fox opinion piece on how they're politically intolerant

Destroying my family to own the libs
Reuters Q: Is there anything you hold Russia personally responsible for POTUS: "I beat Hillary Clinton easily"
Just to be 100% here this is actually how he started that answer

Putin: "Yes I did, I wanted him to win." THERE IT IS, FOLKS.

@TimStone So much for the tolerant... I dunno whether to go with left or right.

caught in a logic trap

@GodEmperorDune Beat me!

@TimStone rekt

3:46 PM
So the "interesting idea" Trump said Putin has seems to involve merging the Mueller investigation with Russian claims about @Billbrowder Amazing.
Mother of god

@TimStone dafuq
worst timeline

Bill Browder now single-handedly influenced the US election to make (?) Putin the bad guy because he hates Putin for the assassination Putin assures us he did not do
Putin is making PRECISELY THE CASE Veselnitskaya made in Trump Tower right here.

@TimStone clearly bill browder faked all that documented corruption to force putin to not kill his friend

Like this is so on the nose I might have a stroke

i always knew that one day it would be too much for @TimStone to inject directly into his veins

3:50 PM
Putin just gave him a World Cup soccer ball to give to Barron

@TimStone That headline is actually pure clickbait garbage tbh
He hasn't rejected it yet. He's redirecting it to a judge for review. It might be rejected, and sounds like he may want to, but he hasn't rejected it.

DAMNIT THE HILL

Less details but also less bias

The Hill is actually awful

Fun fact, I actually didn't click on the article until @Wipqozn called it clickbait garbage. So their clickbait... failed?

3:52 PM
It is so awful

@Yuuki lol

@Yuuki I mean, you still clicked on it...

@TimStone pictures are good tho

It's true I didn't either because I thought the claim was simple enough for there not to be any more explanation necessary

@SaintWacko Well, I wasn't gonna until it was called clickbait.

3:53 PM
Speaking of which, newest version of this came out at some point:

@Yuuki So what you're saying is it's all @Wipqozn's fault

@Wipqozn I don't think local news should be so high up on the quality scale.

A right-leaning misrepresentation as the hill often does

Especially since it implies that PBS/NPR is worse than your local newspaper.

Perhaps not often but

3:54 PM
@Yuuki Local news is just as important as national news tbh

Putin: I was an intelligence officer. i do know how dossiers are made. Russia is a democratic state.

@Wipqozn That's not what I said.

@Wipqozn Hm, NYT feels like it's gone down the chart recently

Yes, local news is important. My comment was about the position of your average local newspaper on the quality scale.

PBS and NPR are better in that they're not owned by Sinclair

3:55 PM
Omg @JonLemire just asked about Crimea and kompromat. Amazing.

@SaintWacko I'm not sure NYT can be considered a local newspaper.

Putin essentially not denying the literal pee tape right now
jfc this is the dumbest timeline

@Yuuki What?

I like jacobin in "skews liberal"

@Unionhawk right?!

3:57 PM
@SaintWacko Its reach and standing are an outlier among local newspaper operations.

@GodEmperorDune Fuckin owned

@Wipqozn so are we banning all Red box sources in this room or orange too?

@Yuuki Right, I hadn't considered it a local newspaper. At all

I feel like it's a national newspaper with a local name.
Hmm... I don't know why I thought you were replying to me or something.
🤔

@GodEmperorDune I'd be fine with that

3:58 PM
"...total witch hunt. Thank you very much, everybody, thank you" -- President Donald Trump's literal last words in his press conference with the president of the Russian Federation
A person can be in favor of improving relations with Russia, in favor of meeting with Putin, and still think something is not right here.
I'm really wondering what the breaking point is. Like if Trump was ousted they'd still have Pence and still get their Supreme Court seats and other judgeships and tax breaks and whatever, at some point debasing the country like this can't be a good long term play for everyone else?
Oh I thought Putin bringing up Soros was a joke but apparently that actually happened
jfc

@TimStone trump gets the base hopped up on racism and everyone who tries to mimic it is not as good
if they turn on him, they are worried that he will rally the base against them

Yeah but at a certain point the destability and literally selling the country to Russia has to start eating at their power?

@TimStone i guess they're rather be driving the train flying off of the cliff than not driving at all?

I'm just not 100% that they wouldn't still be driving regardless. Like even if they lost some seats no one is going home empty-handed

@GodEmperorDune I was actually thinking about that

4:10 PM
@TimStone they are more worried about primary challengers than losing to dems imo
all the structural pro-republican stuff they've done has caused this

Fox Business anchor Stuart Varney: "It was not a very forceful presentation from President Trump with Putin standing right next to him." Fox's Neil Cavuto: "I'll give him the benefit of the doubt to maybe jet lag and time differences, but holy moly."
Even Fox News is like "Dude I don't even know"

@TimStone lol

@TimStone these are the news people on fox tho
hannity and cucker tarlson will have a terrible take

I'm serious though. I don't expect them to have a moral reckoning, it just seems like at a certain point it becomes too risky from a self-preservation perspective to let it all continue

@TimStone i think we had those points at "when you're a star, they let you do it" and "very nice people on both sides" and "trade wars are easy to win"

4:15 PM
Isn't stuart the fox business guy who did a "socialism is evil" speech months ago? like, before the increased momentum?

Like if Trump were to become a dictator and shoot everyone who said something bad about him a single time and then replace them all with Jacob Wohl clones surely that would not be a good outcome for them

@TimStone "too risky to continue" / same party that actively chases away non-whites and women in rapidly diversifying country

@Unionhawk Probably, the Fox Business people are nuttier than the Fox News news people

Not sure if risk management is R strong suit
@TimStone Rich people often can benefit in authoritarian regimes

@puzzlepiece87 to be fair, doubling down on racism has awarded them control of all 3 branches at the national level and control of many state and local levels too

4:18 PM
@TimStone He loves watching Ted and Mitt humiliate themselves too much

> The United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said in a statement Monday that recent tariffs implemented by the U.S. on foreign steel and aluminum are "justified under international agreements," but retaliatory measures from other countries in response are not.

lol

These people do not subscribe to the same reality that we do

@Wipqozn congress could've stopped all this tariff nonsense long ago with a law that said " no more national security exemption for the president to raise tariffs"

Good thing nobody is interested in limiting executive power

@TimStone why did they leave them in the car

W we w

4:24 PM
@TimStone dafuq

@Yuuki Hey it happens

Were the cops trying to recreate a a scene from an 80s action movie?

@TimStone Bulldozers can be very fast but the real question is why are police using a bulldozer for a pot bust??!!

@Yuuki Could not be more fired

> Their task was to ensure that the radioactive materials did not fall into the wrong hands on the way back to Idaho, where the government maintains a stockpile of nuclear explosive materials for the military and others.
@Yuuki sometimes to break down doors and other barriers

4:25 PM
@GodEmperorDune Bulldozers aren't for breaking down doors, they're for breaking down houses.

In this case it was backwoods growing in thick underbrush, per the article

@GodEmperorDune It seems like they failed at step one, given that the wrong hands were their hands.

But like, if it's that remote why even care?

Just go at with a machete or something, don't need a bulldozer.

@Yuuki it gets better, they hadn't actually retrieved the materials yet, it was test samples and testing equipment that got stolen

4:26 PM
But I guess there's that "police love their toys" stuff.

jeez and the bust was for 10 plants
that doesn't seem like much to kill someone over

PA is trash

@GodEmperorDune Hey man, the police are on record for tasing you because you tried to obey their directions but had trouble doing so because you were drunk.
And also for shooting you while you were talking on the phone in your own backyard.

@Yuuki they've killed drunk people for moving wrong

@GodEmperorDune 10 green planty plants or 10 industrial production plants?

4:31 PM
@Wipqozn the article itself says it was a very small bust

@GodEmperorDune so q
Uuufffghh curse my terrible mobile abilities
This is why I try to avoid doing any mod like things on mobile chat, since I'd probably accidentally delete the room or ban @Yuuki

Putin doesn't get 100% of the vote because of our meddling, obviously

lol

I'm ready to call this the darkest hour in the history of the American presidency. Let me know if you can think of any competition.
I mean,
Yeah I can think of a couple

6:00 PM
@Unionhawk Lincoln at the theatre, um...

@Unionhawk I mean to be fair I don't think any President has brought the country to the brink like this, but they did do horrible things to non-white people which is a cornerstone of America we arguably have still failed to remove

@SaintWacko I feel like the darkest hour in Lincoln's presidency was actually not his assassination.

@Yuuki I feel he might beg to differ

Actually, based on his writings, Lincoln would probably consider the South seceding to be worse than his own death.

@Yuuki FINE

6:18 PM
@SaintWacko holds @Yuuki 's hand up in victory

@Yuuki yep
though things moved slower back then so it took weeks for the whole south to seceed
so it lasted more than a single hour

Like, checking the top 100 selling apps to see if nothing is wrong with them at a glance is quickly done. Just ignore the 75 minecraft, clash royale, realm royale and clash of clan clones

why would they check

Because this has happened way too often and these tech companies are big enough to do so?
Like, I dare say that most of the top 100 and probably even top 1000 are probably the same as the day before, so any apps that suddenly appear could probably be vetted

@GodEmperorDune I disagree, I think making a point of how extremely radical these people are, and making fun of them are both great causes.

8:28 PM
@fredley before 2016, it was surprising to see how extremely radical these people are. After 2016 it's par for the course and they do it fairly unabashedly

@GodEmperorDune Still worth doing. They are not aligned with the mainstream, and pushing them further towards the extremities and exposing their more radical ideas can only alienate them from more voters

there might be something meta about pretending to be a disabled vet to troll politicians who exploit vets for political purposes, but it just strikes me as sad

@fredley i disagree about what demographic is going to watch the show
republican voters are not going to watch a show that embarrasses people on "their team"

@GodEmperorDune Some republican voters. I refuse to believe there aren't many republican voters who are outraged by this presidency.

I think it's likely of neutral "value" in this respect

8:37 PM
@fredley if they are outraged by this presidency then they aren't voting to keep their people in charge

@GodEmperorDune It's not just about the presidency. It's about unseating radicals at all levels of government
@Unionhawk probz

I thought we decided to keep politics to TIF?

Oh shit I thought this was TIF

Why would you shut down valuable medical database? Daily Beast: "AHRQ drew the ire of then-congressmember Tom Price in 2016 when it published a study critical of a drug manufactured by one of his campaign donors. " A Price aide reported emailed 6 times to pull research down. https://twitter.com/jburcum/status/1018964823231647744

@TimStone of course

Southeast Ohio Republican Party leader resigns over Trump-Putin meeting https://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2018/07/southeast_ohio_republican_part.html

@TimStone some action, nice

Jeff Flake heard you mention action and found something he could do that wouldn't actually mean anything
AZ GOP Sen Jeff Flake is working on a bipartisan resolution affirming support for FBI and DOJ - could release as early as tonight
There is a lot to process in this story (and also the whole day, really…) but please read this joint on the day of Trump - Putin from @lachlan @samstein and me, with assists from @NoahShachtman @KimDozier and @desiderioDC: https://www.thedailybeast.com/trumps-own-team-he-looked-incredibly-weak-next-to-putin
Summary of the day

@TimStone a nonbinding resolution that takes time away from real legislation

.@ErinBanco continues to dig into the Seychelles meetings https://articles.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2018/07/seychelles_meetings_probed_in_mueller_investigatio.amp
Savage @FoxNews chyron: "Pushover for Putin?"
lol @ the Fox News mentions over this, saw one person saying they'd boycott the network (except Hannity)
Which is both sad but also hilarious that apparently Tucker is not their cup of tea
Tomorrow night @C4Dispatches will broadcast footage taken by an undercover reporter inside Facebook's Dublin office. Should be fascinating.

@GodEmperorDune To be fair probably a good thing in this case.
If I could rewrite history and have Congress' output from 2017-2018 replaced with nonbinding resolutions I probably would
Just think, the Supreme Court would be heading towards 4-3 woo

Well, this picture now seems a bit awkward, esp for Sheriff Clarke.... https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/maria-butina-russian-gun-rights-advocate-charged-in-us-with-acting-as-russian-federation-agent/2018/07/16/d1d4832a-8929-11e8-85ae-511bc1146b0b_story.html?utm_term=.3265347dfc58
Okay counterpoint though that untucked shirt + vest combo was always awkward

Love too correctly spell comrades unless I'm missing something

@TimStone What is it with Russian collusion and clothing that's way longer than it should be?

@TimStone i thought he was doing an awkward sebgorka
@puzzlepiece87 its a poor font choice imo

@GodEmperorDune lol

@TimStone he could also claim that it's not him because he's not wearing a cowboy hat or copious amounts of medals

10:21 PM
@GodEmperorDune Ah okay I thought that was an s at the end, I think you're right. hmm no comparing to the e's in welcome, I think they screwed up the spelling.

@puzzlepiece87 oh i thought you meant the m looked like a n
but yeah, the e is missing too
