I was in a new book store, and it was full of Wheel of Time and Discworld books translated to Hungarian.

SQB
...it is now empty again? ;)

@SQB No. I'd like to read more Discworld books, but in original English, and I would like to borrow them rather then buy them.
But that seems difficult.

There are no librairies in Hungary? Or are they only located in the big cities? Some of them have an "original version" shelf...
(thinking about it, if you have access to universities' libraries you could also give it a shot)

Q: Earth Star Voyager - Amazing how often it comes up

FuzzyBootsI was marking Identify movie about spaceship crew exercising with 'gravity body patches' as a duplicate, now that the answer's been provided and accepted, and it struck me just how often Earth Star Voyager has come up as the correct answer. I feel like it's been a formative experience for many of...

@Jenayah There are libraries. And that's how I've read about ten volumes of Discworld in original. But there are more I'd like to read.
And yes, university libraries help too, in some cases, though not specifically for Discworld.

@b_jonas what about second-hand stores? Or second-hand online websites? I can think of a few here, but no idea about Hungary, though I don't see why there wouldn't be such a thing - I know you'd rather borrow, but it's still cheaper than a brand-new one on Amazon

1:54 PM
@Jenayah There are good second-hand stores, and these days many of them have a catalog accessible online through some franchised or associated big used book network. There are at least six used book store websites useful to search this way.
I've got some good books from them, including some I mentioned in chat. I haven't specifically searched them for Discworld, I should probably try, but I don't think they'll have many originals.

@b_jonas Any big sequoia around there? You could start your own library, ye know...

@Derpy No. We have oaks.
(And planes.)

2:10 PM
@b_jonas maybe an hollow oak could do, but I fear that's too small...
^ just in case you needed a project.

Q: Why do people on this site tolerate power users on this forum that debate in bad faith and power trip?

Jacob Andrew HollanderThere seems to be a very serious problem with certain power users on this forum and their cliques. If they don't like an answer they will attack the user and if the user isn't driven off they'll just bury your posts even if their own posts have the same features they criticized you for. The rea...

I was marking scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/188738/… as a duplicate, now that the answer's been provided and accepted, and it struck me just how often Earth Star Voyager has come up as the correct answer.
I feel like it's been a formative experience for many of us on our sci-fi journey, probably also showing up as a story-id so often because it was a failed pilot, and therefore doesn't really have an official release (albeit available bootlegs and not difficult to find on Youtube).
My own personal experience was watching it (I don't know if I ever saw the whole thing at once) on TV as part of one of the Disney properties that had original movies (most likely "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color") and I vividly remember the fast food stations keyed by palm prints, and them having to sneak by a cyborg sentinels by walking underneath their line of sight.
Funny thing, though, it was probably a good decade before I realized that the name of it was not Battlestar Galactica, a show I heard about more often, but have never actually watched, although I'm aware of how prominent it is in geek culture.

@Marvin "migrated from scifi.stackexchange.com"? Whatever happened to the golden rule of migrations? ;-)

5:19 PM
What's the rule?

"don't migrate crap"

Oh, alright

5:41 PM
Eh, the question itself wasn't terrible. We know we have some aggressive personalities amongst us, and people with very strong opinions. They might have had a legit beef. The insistence on their semantic interpretation of "forum" and continued sub if bad faith, less so.

@Mithrandir I don't think that rule applies to migrating to the own site's meta.

What is kylo Rens last name?

Solo?
Ben Solo is his real name, if I'm not mistaken.
