Does anyone feel like this question is worth keeping?
It looks like a straight up PSQ to me, but according to a review audit, it shouldn't be closed for lacking context.

I feel like it's worth keeping. I like it :D

Aside from the fact that it is an upper-division homework problem, rather than a calculus homework problem, how is it not a PSQ?

I didn't say it wasn't. I said I like it :P

Okay, but "I like it" doesn't convince me that it is worth keeping.
If the standard is that problem statement questions are poor quality questions and should be closed, how does one justify keeping that question open?
Moreover, even if we can't agree as to whether or not the question should be kept open, can we at least agree that it is pretty marginal, and is not a good audit question?

Awwwwwwww, but Xander. :c You don't care that I like it?
Yeah, it's a bad audit question though
But we've talked about this: I'm personally down with keeping PSQ/exercises on the site so long as I think they present value to future readers of the site. When studying for the Complex Analysis Qual, I would've been happy to find such sample "Rouche's Theorem" exercises to practice on this site.
So I mean, I'd argue to keep it, but I know $>5$ people are holding that same standard as you, so it'll probably get closed and deleted.

1:02 AM
I'm not gonna vote to close it, since I think that the answer is pretty enlightening
and while I don't generally think that good answers save bad questions, that answer could serve as a duplicate target for a lot of tricky Rouche's theorem problems
but in the review queue, answers are invisible

Well, since (I suppose) the goal is to not have PSQs visible on the site do discourage the culture of asking PSQs, would this be a good question to "ask better" and then request a merger?

Perhaps. Though I am not sure what "better" would be. Perhaps incorporating the first paragraph of the answer into the question (i.e. note that, numerically, the two "bad" solutions are only barely bad).

At least the other answerer tried to find another polynomial and apply Roche. Do no other "obvious" choices of other polynomial work? I think that's enough context: here's a few natural guesses at a polynomial to try Rouche's theorem with, but they don't work. Can this be done with Rouche's theorem? How do you see which polynomial will work in this tough case?
I'm gonna edit it and bump it (the title sucks at least). It would be nice if some Complex Analysis Wizard saw it to confirm that it's not so straight-forward.

A: Examples of poor review audits

Xander Hendersonhttps://math.stackexchange.com/review/close/1015074 This question is a fairly straight-forward "problem statement question" that I voted to close as "Lacking Context." I think that the level of the material (advanced undergraduate or introductory graduate level complex analysis) coupled with th...

Q: What is the expansion for $\frac{1}{1+x+x^{2}}$?

ElizabethWhat is the expansion for $\frac{1}{1+x+x^{2}}$? I know expansion for $$\begin{align}&(1+x)^{-1}=1-x+x^{2}-x^{3}+\dots\\ &(1+x)^{-2}=1+(-2)x+(-2)\frac{-3}{2!}+(-2)(-3)\frac{-4}{3!}+\dots\\ &(1+x^{2})^{-1}=1-x^{2}+x^{4}-x^{6}+\dots\end{align}.$$ But for $\frac{1}{1+x+x^{2}}$ I got problem. Can so...

@LeakyNun This is worse.

@user21820 I originally found like 8 duplicates
my comments were deleted
are the questions marked as duplicates?

@LeakyNun Well the one you linked is marked as duplicate of 3 others.
By "worse" I meant "with less effort/context shown".

have the other questions been marked as duplicates, including the questions in my comments that were deleted?

@MikePierce The standard way to solve that problem is for people who want to keep the content (such as the answerer or you) to post a (far) better question. If you are the answerer, it is especially worthwhile if you can generalize the question, and you can easily copy over the content. If you are not the answerer, you can still ask a moderator to move the good answer[s] over. I'm sure this has been done >5 times before.
=)
@LeakyNun I have no idea. I wasn't around to see them.

@user21820 For the rest of my delete votes today, I'd like to focus on 2018 questions, so they don't accumulate, and so users 2 to 4 years from now don't have to backtrack to 2018 to clean things up.

@amWhy Ah yup.

PSQ needs closure.

@amWhy: The first few on that list are from 2018, if you would like to close them. I guess I should link them otherwise people have to solve the silly captcha:
1, 2, 3, 4.

2:26 PM
@user21820 I'm able to access the list from your search, from the link alone, but I think perhaps users with fewer that 25k rep may not be able to.

@amWhy Oh I see thanks; I didn't know that. I also had to do the captcha, and sometimes I try 10 times and the stupid computer still tells me to try again.

@user21820 Probably to actually run the search. I simply was able to read the results of your search, which didn't require "captcha", but perhaps will after a short period of time, to rerun the search.

@amWhy Oh that's interesting.

2:45 PM

@JohnMa: More from the list: 5, 6, 7.
@amWhy (PSQ2) is (3) on my list. =)

@user21820 Great minds think alike!

@user21820 I'm out of delete votes...but I'll certainly be able to review later.

@amWhy Okay! For me, I usually get tired before I reach the vote limit. If only there were automatic quality control systems in place!

@amWhy I'm able to run that query and view the list - and I'm on much less than 25k rep. As far as I know, there's no rep limit for viewing queries but if you're using it anonymously the captchas get annoying. The log in button in the top right lets you log in: I haven't had a single captcha since then.

@XanderHenderson Not so much, no. The question does not deserve 4 upvotes. The question should be closed. That's not to say the question should be deleted, hence, the answer can remain even though the question ought to be closed, consistent with the closing of other poor quality questions. That's just my thoughts.

@amWhy Indeed. I meant to say "is this question worth keeping open?"
I don't get a lot of delete votes, hence "worth keeping" doesn't quite mean "worth not deleting" in my mind (yet).

Well, then my answer, in terms of worth keeping/not closing, I'd still say no... there's no reason a question should remain open for the sole reason of luck in getting a good answer. Hence, I did vote to close the question. But I would not vote to delete. If closed, the message is: this is not a good question. But it's existence ensures the answer remains.

9:57 PM
@XanderHenderson I met my delete limit rather earlier today (John Ma's list, and my other votes, prior to those). Interestingly, I found that I was still able to vote on low-quality answers in the review queue, after this, but I was limited to "recommend deletion" votes.
