Q: Basicity of adenine rationalized by possible existence of hydrogen bond

AbcdThis is a follow up question of this question on the most basic site of adenine on the site. Since, the data quoted by @DavePhD suggests that 7 is the most basic site, is it possible that hydrogen bonding is the reason? Hydorogen bonds can exist with nitrogens 1 and 3 but not with 7.

@J_B892 This has nothing to do with hydrogen bonding.
@J_B892 See you want a cis structure in which OH and CH3 are on same side. That's only possible in axial-equatorial stereochemistry.
Now we got to decide which axial and which group equatorial.
CH3 is larger than OH certainly.
Thus, we'll keep it on equatorial while OH on axial.
