I think cobalt has 6 CN so it should be none of these?

@DivyankaS.Chaudhari oh i missed it :( thanks divyanka! :D
@yashasvigrover it's not a compulsion that it can only have cyanide as a ligand; you can give it other ligands as well

But do we have to guess or what :3
I meant coordination no by CN -_-

in the question it says there are chloride ions, what's the need to guess:/

I meant cobalt has coordination no equal to 6 ?
So it should be [Co(H20)4Cl2]Cl
Or should it be [Co(H20)4]Cl3

yes the former looks better
@yashasvigrover yep right

1:15 AM
Book says option c :(
Well in the chirality question are my hand drawn structures reasoning right?

in (c), the bottom left chlorine is not joined by a solid line
so its not the primary valency

Which means the formula is?

[CoCl2(H2O)4]Cl

But primary valency is represented by broken line
And it has 3 broken lines
Oh shit does it mean solid line plus dotted line means it is the π bond?
:/

nah
solid line is primary valency
dashed line is secondary valency

look at the bottom examples
the solid lines are inside the coordination sphere
the dashed lines are outside

Ionizable valencies are called primary
Got it thanks
I was wrong

Wait in last examples dotted line plus dashed line are drawn together for chlorine.What does that meam

its inside the coordination sphere
so it is also the sec valency
though now i've to go
cya!

1:41 AM
Bye

@GaurangTandon welcome!

anyone please have a look at this above and let me know the logic

3:32 AM
@GaurangTandon I think it is (1) because Mo^+4 and W^+4 are more stable than Cr^+4 as higher oxidation states of the heavy transition metals are more stable.

4:31 AM
@DivyankaS.Chaudhari @GaurangTandon @DivyankaS.Chaudhari I agree

2 hours later…
6:48 AM
What would be the final product for question B ?

7:24 AM
@DivyankaS.Chaudhari oh, ok thanks
yep that's the right answer
@VikasRv hint: ozonolysis then aldol condensation

1 hour later…
8:43 AM
The answer was hexane with substitutions.
I am not able to figure that out.i understood the ozonolysis part. Can you show me how the also condensation is done
Aldol**

Is silver monoxide(Ag2O) amphoteric or basic? Wikipedia page here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphoterism states that oxide of silver is amphoteric but I can't find any other site which says the same. The solution of one of the questions regarding the same states that it is basic.

Anonymous
I figured out that it is in +1 oxidation state, which lies b/w -2(lowest oxidation state) and +3(Highest oxidation state). So, it must be amphoteric. Can someone verify it for me ?

12:06 PM
Ag2O is basic oxide
I don't know why

12:27 PM
@VikasRv hmmm ok let me try
@VikasRv it says Ag2O is used as a base in Hoffmann elimination; not that Ag2O can only act as a base
though I don't know the answer myself
@VikasRv hey, i'm getting a ring instead!
it will definitely be a ring, the answer's wrong

12:43 PM
Oops
I meant cyclo hexane . Sorry

ok
sending

Ag2O is basic. The above wiki link I posted confirms that.
Ag2O + 2HX -> 2AgX + H2O

@VikasRv hmm yep that's a reasonable inference

I am just getting confused with the aldol condensation part in my question. Can you post that please ?

Yep, here, have a look
getting it?

12:52 PM
Yo
Thanks

great

1:45 PM
Doesn't Ag2O form Ag(OH) with H20?

1:59 PM
@yashasvigrover it's still a base though?

Aaccording to ncert an oxide that forms base with water is termed basic.So yes,Ag20 is basic by standard definition.

2:19 PM
@GaurangTandon Even Nitrogen performs hyperconjugation with CH3's alpha stuff?
Coincidence:
-1
Q: The number of hyperconjugating structures in the compound

user57048 The question is how many hyperconjugating strutures are there for the following compound. I know this is very elementary question . I thought the answer was 8 but it turns out to be 0. Does it invoke the very definition of hyperconjugation?

This question came in our exam today
@GaurangTandon This question only ^^^ ... I think some FIITJEEian has asked this after exam.

haha
let me read it once

What happens when we react above compound with (1)-BH3-THF and then(2)H2O2,OH-

@yashasvigrover Hydroboration...

It happens with alkenes?

@yashasvigrover interesting, there's no alkene here

2:23 PM
Yes
I think it is a mispriny
There are many misprint in solutions of fiitjee rsm

@Abcd upvote that question and avoid a silly closure, it already has a close vote :(

The solution forms orthopaedic methyl hexanol

Q: Why modulus is not considered in this vector algebra problem.

Fawad Question: given two vectors $i-j$ and $i+2j$ , the unit vector coplanar with the two vectors and perpendicular to first is (a)$\dfrac{1}{\sqrt 2} (i+j)$ (b)$\pm\dfrac{1}{\sqrt 2} (i +j)$ Let given two vectors be a and b, required vector be $r=xi+yj+zk$ then $[a b c]=0$ solving I got z=...

*orthomethyl cyclohexanol

It was asked in aieee 2002

2:25 PM
@yashasvigrover probably not aldol either then :/

this question came in my test today. Answer given is 8 — Abcd 14 secs ago
@GaurangTandon ^^^
@GaurangTandon Why 8 hyperconjugating structures:

@Abcd there are eight alpha hydrogens

I marked $5$ as the answer :"(

@GaurangTandon But how can their be hyperconjugation with nitrogen...its orbital already has lone pair

2:27 PM
@Abcd i think it can still resonate via that pi bond

@GaurangTandon How but :///////////////////

@Abcd i don't know how to explain :/

Isnt explanation given with answer¿

@GaurangTandon Okay, but there's empty p orbital in carbon's case and here there's not
@yashasvigrover no
@GaurangTandon:
But who can trust a random Pawan Gupta

@Abcd actually that answer seems wrong; there's a thing called negative hyperconjugation but it isn't in our course

@Abcd chemistry.tutorvista.com/inorganic-chemistry/… see third diagram from top
hardly a diff whether N or C atom is there

@GaurangTandon They have shown only for C
@GaurangTandon makes a difference. C has empty p orbital
Nitrogen has occupied orbital

@Abcd that's in carbocation only
in alkene carbon's all orbitals are filled

A: The effect of hyperconjugation on the stability of alkenes with MO theory

PhilippSince you are familiar with how carbocations are stabilized via hyperconjugation I will keep this brief: With alkenes, it really is the same principle at work. Instead of the empty p orbital, you have to consider the empty $\pi^{*}$ orbitals of the $\ce{C=C}$ double bond. They interact with the f...

Should i ask the BH3 Question on forum¿

2:33 PM
@yashasvigrover tell me the question

i sometimes wish we had an expert similar to JR roaming in this chatroom as well...

@yashasvigrover Question mark is "?"
@GaurangTandon Yeah....

For some reason my keyboard lacks question mark

that question by yashasvi may totally get closed on main as "unclear"
though who knows

ibb.co/jfw6en

2:34 PM
@yashasvigrover i checked the internet, there's no such reaction there, you can safely ignore it and move on

Ok
Should i solve ms chauhan problem book after mains¿ has anyone completed it here

@Abcd i don't see why you can't invoke similar MOT theory for N=C
or maybe leave it i'm just not into MOT at all... :/

To this day i haven't understood MOT xD

@yashasvigrover i have done 95% of it; it's good for advanced; for mains you can safely skip it, there's no time anyway; it's a big book

Fiitjee copies problems from books

2:37 PM
hmm

I reckon it must have taken some from ms chauhan
I will solve it selectively
I have completed rsm

well totally your choice
good luck!

My inorganic sucks anyways,lets hope organic makes it up for it

@GaurangTandon I understood it.

@Abcd ok great

2:38 PM
@GaurangTandon They asked: Which $d$ orbitals are used in $\ce{sp^3d^3}$ hybridisation of $\ce{IF7} $

@Abcd you'll be able to later relate it with CFT in coordination copounds
answer is probably z^2, x^2-y^2, xy
right?

@GaurangTandon Yes :"(
Why did they ask this
Cruel people

skip it anyway

@GaurangTandon it came in today's exam:
I marked: x^2 - y^2, xy, yz

2:40 PM
hehe

Is sp3d3 hybridization even in syllabus}

Is $d_{z^2}$ for the axial bonds @GaurangTandon ?

@Abcd well that I don't know :(
@yashasvigrover i think yes

@GaurangTandon ...and people on SE refuse to answer that...

2:43 PM
well you know that PCl5 question; so I guess in IF7 too the things are similarly a bit weird

@yashasvigrover They don't follow their syllabus AFAIK

@yashasvigrover our sir made it learn it anyway :P

Jee advance follows syllabus strictly

@GaurangTandon I know that apparent sp3d3 is made up of sp2 + sp ... But I can't tell that to FIITJEE
@yashasvigrover No

Yes it does

2:44 PM
@Abcd it's a 4c-3e bond, read the chem.se question
41
Q: Why does F replace the axial bond in PCl5?

ShubhamWhy does $\ce{F}$ replace an axial bond in $\ce{PCl5}$? I realize that it would be more stable there than at equatorial bond, but what is the reason of its stability? Similarly in $\ce{AB4}$ type of molecules with $\ce{sp^3d}$ hybridization (4 bond pairs and 1 lone pair) why is the geometry of th...

@GaurangTandon PCl5 = sp2 + p (for phosphorus)
IF7 = sp2 + sp

oh ok I see what you mean

I have checked ron's both answers on this matter yesterday night itself
But I can't tell that to FIITJEE
And JEE
And the High School World

yep you can't

Does Sn(Hg) +HCl do clemmension reduction too}¿

2:49 PM
@yashasvigrover yes

In my book it reduced ketone to alcohol :(

@yashasvigrover i was taught it does cyanide and nitro only
@Abcd can you double check?

@GaurangTandon I remember reading it...Let me check

Anonymous
@VikasRv I read this Wikipedia page. Nowhere mentioned. If it is, Wikipedia contradicts Wikipedia xD

@yashasvigrover I think that might be reasonable answer.

Are you referring to Ag2O question ?@DivyankaS.Chaudhari

Also, unable to get any reaction of base with it. So, it could be basic.
