A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

AdmBorkBorkCount the Matchsticks code-golf what other tags? Most people here are familiar with seven segment displays, which are also used in matchstick puzzles. Below are the digits 0 through 9 and negative sign - written in this format. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | | | _| _| |_...

@NewSandboxedPosts Hmm, I smell compression (when posted)

I smell brute-force

Nah, just take digits, then lookup the amount needed for each digit, then sum

I can guarantee you that there's something shorter than that :P

8:38 PM
I'm not going to go any further, lest I actually try and solve it :P

Huh, I joined SO and CR on the same day, but PPCG 9 days before. Weird

I joined SO 4 months before and I have ~22k less rep there :P
Anyway, my rep is very satisfying atm, 24860
All-even.

I just reached 10k network rep, and the first flag I saw in chat disappeared as soon as I clicked on the icon :(

@cairdcoinheringaahing Get used to it. That's what happens everytime

Not to me?... That happens to me in the review queues though, so we're on par :P

checks review queues ... Nothing

We need a challenge to check if the review queue is non-empty :p
And good news ^_^ I started developing Cthulhu again, after having abandoned it

lol just click the review button on the top bar

way too much work :P

8:47 PM
Or just ask DJ cause he seems to live in them :P

if you get to

@cairdcoinheringaahing checks review queues ... Nothing

I don't see how PPCG is so inactive sometimes and the review queues are empty all the time, but whenever something appears everyone else seems to be just there and boom it's not there anymore

review stalker reloaded

makes meta complain ... Downvoted into oblivion

8:51 PM
@MartinEnder Shh, you're not supposed to say that until I have steward! :P

@MartinEnder -1 that implies abuse

review stalker reloaded

huh?

"stalk"ing isn't a good thing

8:52 PM
I didn't name the userscript...

...

the what?

Q: Review Stalker Reloaded: A cross-site dashboard for reviews

Nathan Tuggy About Based very loosely on the Review Stalker user script, this script has been rewritten several times since then. Its purpose is to be a one-stop pinned tab, always checking for review opportunities on main and meta as aggressively as is useful between multiple sites you configure. Usage...

shouldn't have mentioned that... :P

@MartinEnder That looks helpful (and explains DJ's constant reviewing)

8:59 PM
@DJMcMayhem That fails if an element occurs multiple times, right? Anyway, you can save a byte by using x-l.index(x)for instead

@Mr.Xcoder You're right

@Mr.Xcoder wait, do you go up the transcript regularly?

In this case, I have the CMC widget installed and I have looked a bit below the CMC. But I usually do when I have time, sometimes.

Yeah, I was thinking that was a kind of random message to reply to :P

CMC widget?

JAU (Just Another Userscript)

@DJMcMayhem Pyth, 4 bytes: sqVU
Returns a positive integer for truthy, 0 otherwise. 0-indexed.

@DJMcMayhem Jelly, 3 bytes: =JẸ (1-indexed)

Ninja'd

05AB1E, 3 bytes ā-P (1-indexed)
Returns 0 for truthy, any other integer for truthy.
My personal favourite is 4 bytes though: ƶŲO. Assumes the elements are non-0... 1-indexed. ƶ – multiply each by its index; Ų – check if it's a perfect square; O – sum

I don't think you can do that
but appending a > will fix it

I did provide a correct solution, the latter was just for fun.

I'm talking about the first (3-byte) solution though

Why exactly?

@Mr.Xcoder Having a builtin for "multiply each by its index" seems ridiculous, but it actually looks really helpful at times

9:17 PM
I meant Returns 0 for truthy, any other integer for falsy. btw

05AB1E's if/else construct for testing is i1ë0}, and only 1 passes the test

Eh, you're too pedantic for a CMC :P

Can I borrow someone who's using the gradscript to test something quickly?

sure

Yeah

9:20 PM
Go here and check your Achievements

Achievements?

yeah and?

Does the PPCG logo show?

ah yeah the gradscript's not acting on it

9:21 PM
nope

It shows the regular logo

@Mr.Xcoder it's like saying "this adds two numbers, but, eh, there's a little issue, that the result is off-by-one, trivial fix"

@Mr.Xcoder Even for the second link?

No, click the icon where you'd see your rep changes

9:22 PM
Oh...
It shows something blurry
Kinda like random blue lines

Hmm, weird. Is it worth reporting?

@cairdcoinheringaahing I see this too

I've actually noticed that for a long time yet I didn't know what you meant by Achievements facepalm
@cairdcoinheringaahing Jelly, 3 bytes

9:33 PM
That's from July

Yeah ;)
I sure could have found something older...

Q: Three-Dimensional Chess

geokavelIn order to defend someone’s baffling decision, people often say that that person is going over everyone’s heads and playing “3-dimensional chess”. Now it’s your chance to play 3-dimensional chess! Rules There are many variants of 3D Chess, but for this challenge I’ve made up my own. My version...

10:09 PM
30: Pop current stack from the stack stack.
I love stacks

Stacks are great fun

oh i should have checked the history on the answer

@ATaco What about recursive stacks? :)

@Adám 大道至簡: 大 - big/great; 道 - way (the same word for Tao in Taoism); 至 - [superlative]; 簡 - simple/concise
it means that the great truths are [often those that are] the most concise

@LeakyNun Thanks. So is it OK to translate it as "The greatest Tao is the simplest one"?

10:24 PM
well it isn’t really talking about Tao is it
i don’t know about the context

@LeakyNun I'm going to use it in the context of something called TAO.

oh lol ok
@Adám yes then

lol what a coincidence

@LeakyNun The idea being that we've tried designing our "TAO" to be as simple as possible.

lol

10:26 PM
@moonheart08 :|

oh and you might want to know that the text you gave me is in traditional chinese

@LeakyNun Yeah, I know. It kind of have to be for it to be a traditional proverb, no?

@ASCII-only You have been recursed.

@moonheart08 you're turning a stack-based language into a scope-based language :/ (well, kinda)

@LeakyNun And Google Translate does a horrible job with it… "Avenue to Jane"(!)

10:27 PM
@Adám eh... people in China learn proverbs just fine using simplified Chinese :p
@Adám that’s because proverbs like this are written in a more concise and literary language

@ASCII-only I adhere to zero standards, so don't be suprised

called... classical chinese i think

just the other day, somebody was entering massive insults into Google Translate, and the result was "Hey you"

@EriktheOutgolfer maybe they typed it wrong? :P

@EriktheOutgolfer Hey you
That's insulting, right?

10:32 PM
@moonheart08 that’s RProgN’s data model

11:11 PM
May I ask some feedback for this challenge on sandbox?

@Bubbler I think it's pretty clear? i'm not sure

Might be a duplicate of that other polyglot one.

yeah, maybe
so uh, is it no longer required to mark answers non-competing or something?

Languages can be newer than the challenge now, assuming the feature wasn't implemented for the challenge.

i actually managed to do some compression though, which was pretty cool

Man that challenge was a surprisingly tough one.

i think the fact that i actually managed to get it smaller was pretty nice... it was my first answer in Turtlèd... also like the only time it was good at ascii art really

@cairdcoinheringaahing MATL, 2 bytes (1-based)

@LuisMendo i fed up with this WoHrled

@LuisMendo in Jelly I think that's just one byte now (not then):
