5 hours later…
4:54 AM
@Jesse_b Chainsaws can be dangerous.

8 hours later…
12:35 PM
@JeffSchaller Hah, hopefully no termites
@FaheemMitha Yea I know, I also only around 10 trees on my property so I wanted to avoid getting one but the last time we had some big wind a huge tree limb fell in my back yard, was such a pain cutting it up with a bow saw

12:56 PM
@Jesse_b better to be done quickly with a chainsaw than sweating and making mistakes with a hand saw! Maybe the local Home Depot / Lowe's / etc rents them out?
hrm! neat - Home Depot lists gas & electric ones on the website

I'm sure they do, home depot rents everything

just in case it's an intermittent thing. I ended up inheriting one, but I use it maybe once every 2-3 years.
$40 for 4 hours or $55 for a day; not terrible. a few rentals buys you one. Not sure if bar oil (and a good chain) comes with it, though
"Engineered with smooth rounded surfaces for comfort, reducing operator fatigue" -- be sure to get a refund if you're tired afterwards ;)

Yea I'm not sure how often I will be using it although my wife is into wood burning and I would like to eventually make some "live edge" log slabs for her to burn drawings on so a chainsaw could come in handy
plus who doesn't want to own a chainsaw? :-P

@Jesse_b I would love to but in my 50m² apartment I'm not sure it would be that useful except maybe from bothering my neighbours

@Kiwy Sounds like an excuse to me :-P. It also sounds like space may be limited in your apartment so a chainsaw may be exactly what you need. Coffee table too long? Just trim a foot off one end with your chainsaw real quick

1:09 PM
@Jesse_b I really didn't put any thoughts into that until now... It happens that I have indeed a shelves or two that are too long...

:-)

2:02 PM
Hello.
Does anybody know, why when I do ssh@10.0.0.5 "pdebug 2345" it says no such file or directory, but when I do those operations in separate, it works just fine?

@PaulD you do realize that waht you're asking for has no meaning whatsoever ?

2:20 PM
@Kiwy Obviously not, else they wouldn't be asking.
Come on.

@PaulD what is pdebug?

@terdon you made my day right here right now !

@Kiwy Well, I'm glad, but the point stands. If someone is asking a question, then they obviously don't know the answer. Telling them their question has no meaning isn't helpful.
Telling them why it has no meaning, would be great.

2:33 PM
@terdon Well I know that I have in the past ask think in a way it has no meaning and people telling me that is no meaning push me to read again my question and try to take some distance with the problem and sometime rephrase or correct my question. And I have more learn like this than when someone hand me directly the solution.
And I tend to explain why the question is bad, but now here in the chat you just say hello I have a problem it is "a very strange odd problem" could you help me... I'm not incline to help

3:06 PM
@PaulD Not without more details. Are you talking about a forced command or similar?
Huh, apparently there's a Stack Overflow in Russian - ru.stackoverflow.com
Does anyone know how many languages SO is in now? And why isn't U&L in Russian too?

@FaheemMitha I've seen very few of them in different language

@Jesse_b Clearly it's a debug command.
@Kiwy Of what?

@FaheemMitha Yea I googled it and couldn't find anything really. It also doesn't exist on any of my machines which would likely be why it doesn't work

of stackexchange site even the Stackexchange on other language uses english as may one

@Jesse_b Actually, I found quite a lot of hits, but mostly they don't look very Unixy.

3:12 PM
@FaheemMitha Yea the only things I found were it being some C function, so maybe he has a custom function or something named pdebug on his local machine but not the machine he's sshing to?

@Kiwy Yes, it seems to be just SO, as far as I can tell. It's in Brazilian Portuguese even.
@Jesse_b Perhaps. But only he can tell us. And he seems to have wandered off, perhaps in dismay at the reception his question received.

3:31 PM
Portuguese, Spanish, and Japanese I think, so far.
And russian

very few activity en the spanish one

@user9303970 BTW: we have a few sites that might be better places to ask stuff like that, Open Source and Law (check with their help center and/or meta topics first, of course, to see what types of questions they appreciate.)

3:57 PM
@Kiwy well, the problem was that I has to specify a full path to the program I'm trying to call. Also, I disagree my question had meaning. It lacked detail, yes. But meaningless - no.

@PaulD as external to your system and your current objectives... it's very meaningless to me

@PaulD I think Kiwi meant your question makes no sense without context, as opposed to having no meaning.

@terdon as usual I end saying that you're right Terdon... hum...

:P

After checking it's a wrong french to english translation

4:13 PM
@Kiwy ça ne veut rien dire?

@terdon En anglais ou en français, sense and meaning could be translated as "SENS" in french, but in English meaning tend to be something with a goal while sense has slightly different meaning
Well I try to improve my english everyday but as I learn more I tend to do more mistake because I try to vary in phrasing and synonym but it seems I'm still not fluent enough :D

4:30 PM
That's how it goes. Believe me, I've been in your position often enough :)

@terdon Thank you for your support ;-)

4:46 PM
Annoyances: 50g of sodium hexametaphosphate, $9; 400g: $15.
Thankfully it has a long shelf life...

@derobert I hesitate to even ask. . .

@terdon Enough for ~80kg of cheese...
At approx 0.5% in cheese sauce.
Sodium citrate has similar pricing, but at least that's more like 2%. So its conceivable to go through 400g.

5:01 PM
Ah! Deflocculation!
I thought you needed it in your activities as a dev/sysadmin and was quite taken aback :P

5:57 PM
@derobert That sounds like it should be an explosive.
@terdon I'm impressed that anyone can spell deflocculation, let alone knows what it means.

@FaheemMitha nah, nowhere near enough nitrogen.

Some cheeses smell like they should be explosives.
@PaulD So you solved your issue? You disappeared, then reappeared.
Bear in mind that questions usually go on the U&L site.
And most of us don't have crystal balls, so details are helpful.

@FaheemMitha I had absolutely no clue until I looked up sodium citrate after derobert mentioned it. From there, it was a simple matter of copy pasting and presto! Instant appearance of erudition!

@terdon Instant erudition is the best. Like instant coffee, except without the caffeine.

@FaheemMitha So none of the taste and none of the benefit?

6:10 PM
@terdon Apparently you're not a fan of instant coffee.

@FaheemMitha Who is?

@Jesse_b I don't drink the stuff, so I wouldn't know.

@FaheemMitha In only like it when in the form of what we call a "frappe" in Greece: cold and shaken.
Frappé coffee (also Greek frappé or café frappé Greek: φραπές, frapés) is a Greek foam-covered iced coffee drink made from instant coffee (generally, spray-dried Nescafe), water and sugar. Accidentally invented by a Nescafe representative named Dimitris Vakondios in 1957 in the city of Thessaloniki, Frappé is sold primarily in Greece and is among the most popular drinks in Greece and Cyprus, and is available at virtually all Greek cafés. The word frappé is French and means 'chilled with ice'. The frappé has become a hallmark of post-war outdoor Greek coffee culture. == History == A variety of...

@terdon Greek coffee? Cool.

@FaheemMitha Nah, just a form of coffee served in Greece. Although it is being eclipsed by the more refined Freddo Cappuccino, these days.
Greek coffee is what the Greeks, in our nationalist fervor, call what everyone else refers to as "Turkish coffee"
This thing:

I have a feeling the woman had it coming
