12 hours later…
12:25 PM
@SimonForsberg My friend just suggested starting a new save..
Btw, have you experimented with multiplayer servers that run on a Linux host?
I'm somewhat tempted to run it on my DigitalOcean instance, but it's only a 512 MB box so it's not a lot

12:44 PM
@skiwi haven't really tried it myself.
@skiwi 512 MB is definitely too little for Factorio
@skiwi So? Start a new one then ;) It's only a matter of time before you do that. Did you launch the rocket yet btw?

1:18 PM
@SimonForsberg No, not even close

@skiwi What types of science packs have you automated?

I don't see the point of a new one though, it only costs time
@SimonForsberg Just four so far, we've been busy doing other side errands
But I managed to convince him that we can still continue with our current save

@skiwi There are some good aspects of a new one. Most importantly: Fresh start, you have perhaps a strategy of how you want to build things so that it doesn't get so messy.
Another reason to start a new map is if you want to play with some mods that require you to build things differently (because of changing recipes), such as some of Bob's mods.
If you want to start playing with some mods, you can add them at any time (pick mine, pick mine!)
@Phrancis How much frontend stuff have you done recently? HTML, CSS and JS?

2:22 PM
@SimonForsberg But you can easily build a new base while keeping all researched tech

@skiwi That's true, yes, if you build it far far away, or if you erase everything and rebuild. My experience is though that that never happens :)

Well, we already started with a new main line through our Factorio and effectively ditched the old part (except it's still running of course)

4 hours later…
6:04 PM
@SimonForsberg I've done plenty of HTML and CSS, JavaScript not as much. Why?

2 hours later…
7:40 PM
@Phrancis I'd recommend checking out Vue.js

8:38 PM
@SimonForsberg ^^
Quickly doing something before doing the next thing often happens so often lol
We're just starting to play around with more serious trains
And I automated construction and logistics robots :D
Condition is if there's less than 5% available, then it'll add more
14 flying robotframe factories was indeed overkill though...

@skiwi Who of you designed that 4-way Train intersection? I myself haven't really designed one and I think my current way of doing those lacks a bit.

> You've played 51 hours of Factorio
And I also learned working with construction and deconstruction blueprints today :)
And what auto-trashing does too
Looks like my friend only used the trainrails-related parts of the blueprints though
Soon we need to fully automate research though, then we'll probably start up using our mines too :)
Right now the really only automated process is filling up logistics/construction robots and even that only happens every so often
So we don't have much demand right now
Or wait, the first four research packs are being used, but that's two more researches and then we can't automatically continue, but again it doesn't drain our researches by a lot, probably not quite enough labs

9:18 PM
@skiwi That's like.... what you always should automate!

9:37 PM
@SimonForsberg Any particular reason? As opposed to the 10 million other JS frameworks? (asking honestly, nit cynically)
not*

10:05 PM
@SimonForsberg But there's a dozen of other things we want to automate too!

@Phrancis Vue.js has become my favorite JS framework, and I think you would like it
and because maybe you'd like to help me out on a project some day :)
@skiwi Yep, #factorio-trap

@SimonForsberg I'm open to trying it, I like front end but I didn't care for React as much as I thought I would
Can you break down why you like Vue.js in short?

10:43 PM
@Phrancis It takes the best parts from both Angular and React. I found it had a very smooth learning curve (I hope you find the same)
@Phrancis I have some code in Vue.js here if you want to have a look: github.com/Zomis/vue-game
There might be a bit of overengineering in it though, you have been warned ;)
^^ If you wanted to have something to think about.

11:13 PM
@SimonForsberg Surely you, of all people, wouldn't overengineer code ;-)
