cider:)

@flawr Yes, but isn't CIDR a backronym?

I don't know, just thought it is similar to apple->APL
but perhaps one could invent a backronym:)

Q: Delete the first periodic digit

Misha LavrovWe all know that whenever a rational number is written in decimal, the result is either terminating or (eventually) periodic. For example, when 41/42 is written in decimal, the result is 0.9 761904 761904 761904 761904 761904 761904 761904 ... with an initial sequence of digits 0.9 followed by...

Net Neutrality was just repealed. :(
People starred a post that creates an ambiguous scenario: if you are for net neutrality, ":(" might cause you to star. If you are against net neutrality (first, what the heck is wrong with you?), you might star because of "Net Neutrality was just repealed". I've always been confused as to how people decide to star a message.

Hah

I'm guessing the deletion was due to someone trying to get more than one vote?

Yes... vote irregularities.

But why though... it's just internet points that aren't really worth anything

Yes I agree that rep gained that way aren't really worth anything... but who knows.

I mean, reputation in general doesn't really mean anything, other than the fact that it indicates how active a member has been in the community.

@LeakyNun Please do. You have some of the best answers on the site, and it's so frustrating to not know how something works.

5:35 PM
well done. don't spoiler

Kindly stop doxing me.

Anyway "Hertz" for example was German.

What does "dox" mean?

To seach and reveal private information in public IIRC

I won't reveal it. And where the heck does that word originate from?

5:38 PM
Doxing (from dox, abbreviation of documents), doxxing or docxing, is the Internet-based practice of researching and broadcasting private or identifiable information (especially personally identifiable information) about an individual or organization. The methods employed to acquire this information include searching publicly available databases and social media websites (like Facebook), hacking, and social engineering. It is closely related to internet vigilantism and hacktivism. Doxing may be carried out for various reasons, including to aid law enforcement, business analysis, extortion, coercion...

If you do reveal the information though, Dennis can just nuke it.

@Dennis I am sorry for the uncomfortable situation I have put you in, I'll stop.

@Mr.Xcoder talk about fast growing functions
googology.wikia.com/wiki/Fast-growing_hierarchy

@cairdcoinheringaahing Hahaha
@Mr.Xcoder Is fast growing function an objective term?
Also, nice job!
That's almost exactly what I had, it just never occurred to me to use negatives

@DJMcMayhem well you can index it by ordinals

I still don't know what that means
I need to spend some time in Art's server

googology.wikia.com/wiki/Fast-growing_hierarchy
sure

What is the criteria for posting a new challenge that is similar to old ones?
Specifically, I want to make a new version of Demolish a String, but with looser rules
Would that be closed as duplicate?

Just assume yes.

@JungHwanMin Why don't you just change the output pattern a bit and also make looser rules?
If the task is identical, then it will definitely be closed as a duplicate shortly after you post it

6:46 PM
It won't be identical
well
I'm planning to get rid of all "random" stuff
would that change be significant enough

@JungHwanMin I'd say that'd still be a duplicate

@JungHwanMin I think it should be different enough
@dzaima Nah, It would be much easier without the random stuff

One more question... is acceptable?
I haven't seen them recently

For what challenge?

I'm making a new version of Demolish a string!, but the new version should be different enough

@JungHwanMin Yeah... is used for any challenge which has a custom winning criterion.

7:16 PM
I'm leaving it up to the user to decide how to demolish a string (how many characters and which direction) and got rid of the "demolish space" rule
But the problem is, the users can argue that they demolish (length - 1) characters to the left, which essentially is the exact same thing as the input
Would making the challenge a solve this issue?

@JungHwanMin Depends on what winning criterion you have.
random example: your score is the factorial of your source code length divided by the number of bytes it prints to STDOUT

Coming to think about it, I don't have an objective criterion in mind.

Ugh...

VTC

@JungHwanMin no.

Anonymous
7:20 PM
Popcons are not an excuse for no objective winning criteria

Popcons are challenges with clear specifications that still allow for creative problem solving, while having an objective voting/winning criterion.
You should take a look over the tag wiki for more info
Haha 11 hats
Caird has 13 :O

Yep, and going for the Jester one :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing Wait, shouldn't I earn the 12th hat for having 11 hats?

Yes, you should. Damn, you're catching me

@Mr.Xcoder Popcons are basically people voting for whatever they think they like. That objective?

7:25 PM
@BufferOverRead No, that's far from objective.
@cairdcoinheringaahing I aim for Werewolf Hunter and Hero Of Time

Popcons also usually have a guide for how voters should vote

Honestly, the subject of conversation is a bit ... subjective.

@cairdcoinheringaahing Like they would listen.

@Mr.Xcoder Those are both really easy to get :P

@BufferOverRead If the challenge doesn't enforce them to listen, it gets closed

7:27 PM
I'm 5 days and 4 comments away from 2 more hats :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing what was your downvoted&deleted answer on that name->number challenge?
you ninja edited accidentally I think

@Mr.Xcoder How can a challenge enforce what is inherently somebody's own desire or view on something?

@cairdcoinheringaahing :/ I would be closer to you but I don't have a working phone for the "vote 7 times via app" one
and I'm too lazy to get the ones for answers n such on PPCG

@Riker It was a Jelly answer that just outputted the number rather than indexing into the alphabet (it was shorter). I deleted it after someone downvoted¯\_(ツ)_/¯

7:28 PM
@Riker You what? You don't have a working phone :o
@cairdcoinheringaahing Don't be mad on me, I was the downvoter :D

@Mr.Xcoder Why?

@Mr.Xcoder I had a working phone
as of now I have a phone
I do not have a working phone right now

TFW you can create a Jelly answer just from copy-pasting from the code page :P

it's pretty simple logic :p

@cairdcoinheringaahing Because 1) answers an unclear question, while making assumptions about what should be done for not too-well defined language versions 2) it is boring

7:31 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing Use Adám's toolbar for Jelly

@Mr.Xcoder Boring challenge, boring answer

@Mr.Xcoder I'm working on my gold badge one right now, for editing 500 posts :D

@Mr.Xcoder Wouldn't making upvotes the winning criterion be a bad idea? PPCG tends to throw upvotes at the first few answers to the question.

10 left

@Riker So that's what all the random edits are for

7:32 PM
:p

@JungHwanMin Making the upvotes a winning criterion is a completely bad idea IMO (that's why I tend to dislike pop-cons)

Oh yeah I have 552 on Electorate too

444/600 for me

not useless/harmful if not something I normally would edit
@cairdcoinheringaahing yes but that was an underspecified one
not just a boring one

I am not geting that 11-hats! Hat ಠ_ಠ

i.e. 1 up/1 down

7:39 PM

@cairdcoinheringaahing Would repcap 3 times (~59)
