@TheSnarkKnight Reading back I think we may have been talking past each other. You're right that I should be assuming the best and I'd like to recommend that we both start fresh. My intention wasn't to slap your wrist for doing anything wrong. I'm actually quite concerned about the site and where it is so far and how slowly I think we're progressing, so I'm a bit sensitive about that.
I do very much appreciate your recent participation, particularly on meta. Active meta participation is so very important to a beta site and my intention wasn't to push you away.

@Catija - I would like to correct a misunderstanding. I did not intend to "berate" Chris Sunami. I respect Chris across several sites and think his answers are thoughtful, well written and helpful. I know I always read his answers when I see them, because I learn something valuable from them.
I reacted to the situation the woman was in, but I wasn't berating Chris. (Somewhere or other, I seem to remember telling him I was sorry about all the fallout on the thread, and I seem to remember he said he was fine with my comment, but I can't find those comments now. Maybe I dreamed them.) But it would be nice if malice wasn't attributed where none was meant. In fact, I think that's a semi-official guideline on all SE sites.
I have seen this often in comment threads:
"Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence." Or, "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity." Or, simply, the written word, especially when brevity is involved, is without visual and auditory cues, and that should be taken into account when assessing what has been written.
I would never intentionally berate Chris Sunami.

@anongoodnurse Could you point out where I used the word "berate"?

I have intentionally berated a user here, I'm sad to say.
@Catija In the teacher's lounge?

@anongoodnurse Chat search turns up no usage of that word since September in the TL.

I berated a user who then proved me right by serially DVing me 100 times across various sites.
I didn't dream it up. I would have posted when I saw it, but for the desire to think about it and the need to go to the hospital today.

I'm not trying to start an argument at all... I need to go home but I'll be back in about an hour?

1:26 AM
I think we would do better probably somewhere else. And not the TL.

@anongoodnurse I can unfreeze our other chat room if you want... or you can post a question on meta. Your call.

I'm not sure what I would want to post on meta about. Not following you.
Gotta go feed my pups. They're looking at me askanse... wondering what 'old lady' might taste like.

@anongoodnurse I'll ping you in the other room when I get home and settled.

Q: Did I invite people in the correct way?

RishikaSo my wedding is round the corner. I have sent the invites. Apart from sending the invites via post, I have also mailed the respective people and called them and talked to them over the phone inviting them for the wedding. I could not meet them for the sole purpose of giving the invite, however, ...

Q: How to tell our wedding venue that we're postponing our wedding?

user458276So my girlfriend and I decided to get married, and we talked to our Church and reserved one of our campuses and we found a good date in May and reserved it. However, we've decided that we should wait longer to get married for personal reasons. We're still together, and strong, but we both think ...

@apaul I suspect there's a bit of trolling going on there; I've also deleted a second answer of his on a different question that's basically the same thing. Do flag away if you see him keep at it.

@HDE226868 I thought as much. Have to admit, it is kinda funny though.

I did find it slightly amusing, yes.

@HDE226868 So... professional...

@apaul HDE got 2 out of 3... I think it's him.

@AJ Wouldn't that mean that there's more competition? And I thought John was somewhere in the east?
@Catija Ya, but you still got the buzzer beater.

I've never been very good at basketball. . .

@HDE226868 Should try hockey instead ;)

Oh, goodness, I can't skate either. See, this is why I run.

> It's not that she's at all rude about it; she isn't. However, her pronunciation is just plain wrong to me, and I can't be untrue to myself by pronouncing it her way. Besides, I never even remember. You can't memorize every little detail about everybody you work with. People pronounce my last name wrong all the time (it's not really Plunkett).
Does anyone think it might be better off without 'I can't be untrue to myself' and 'You can't memorize? '

tbh OP just sounds arrogant in the question

I think I need more context there

@Magisch Yeah, and editing that out might make it less so, so it will avoid the comments the OP was getting (that we're trying to ban...)
??
On the other hand, editing it out might make the question get answers like 'how hard can it be for you, just do it'.... :/

@Tinkeringbell That's my initial response. Someone asks you to make specific sounds when referring to her, you make those sounds, easy as pie

7:30 AM
Hmm... So is it my responsibility as a high-rep community member to just not take the bait? Remove the bait? How do I do that? Edit the question, or vote to close it?
AAAGH... this is frustrating.

Thats a good question
You'd be removing the main point of OPs contention
Even the remembrance thing is just a "besides"
I was fighting the urge to downvote but lost

Hmm, I've become a lot easier on downvoting in the last few weeks

roughly 25% of my total votes on this site are downvotes

Can any of you tell me why the comments here interpersonal.stackexchange.com/q/6737/1599 are suggesting an improvement or asking for clarification?

lets see
Chatty, non-constructive commentary, answer in comments.
in that order

So, I flagged them all three as no longer needed
They just got declinend

akai's comment is semi-helpful in encouraging OP to edit the question to avoid downvotes
The second is not constructive
the third is a (bad) answer misplaced in a comment

I'm willing to live by Shog's rules... But its sorta difficult this way...

I just flagged them again for ya

7:56 AM
raise it on meta

@Magisch hmmm... I'd say very implicit....
@Magisch Meh, just flagged again for moderator attention. If that get's declined, I will meta

The way you make policy on stack sites is by making a meta about it

@Magisch I don't think it suggests anything, other than giving another (very partial) answer

Make a meta
Always make a meta about declined flags ;P

@Mithrandir Okay okay! I'll make a meta ;)
Sheesh... something something peer pressure

7:59 AM
I'm biased in favor of meta
I have more answers and questions on meta.SO then on SO proper

@Magisch I'll make a meta. AFTER breakfast

i think its different enough to keep though

hah

ill just give you upvote for being first :P

give me an upvote only if you think my answer is helpful, please

8:02 AM
@Tinkeringbell if there's a declined flag, it means that either the flagger or the handling diamond interpreted the policies in a different way. The point of a meta post is to clear up what exactly the policy is, and educate either the flagger or diamond.
Could also be that someone pressed the wrong button, of course.
I've accidentally flagged a NAA as R/A and I've definitely accidentally declined a flag because the car hit a bump :|

@Mithrandir lol
hopefully not while driving yourself

@JesseBarnett please only upvote answers if they're actually helpful and relevant to the question. Upvotes for any other reason are frowned on.
@JarkoDubbeldam I'm 15, I'm not the one behind the wheel :P

@Mithrandir :shrugs: can't smell age over the internet ;)

@Mithrandir If you only answer things if you believe your own answer is helpful, and i feel he answered similar to my own then by default that means I think that @Magisch 's answer was helpful.. I don't see why you guys thought otherwise

@JesseBarnett heh, that reminds me of another discussion I once had
let me see if those comments still exist

8:17 AM
@JesseBarnett I'm just abundantly cautious

nope, can't find it

@Mithrandir Now fight! :P

not sure why this is unclear tbh: interpersonal.stackexchange.com/questions/6745/…
You can argue that IPS isn't really relevant here, but I think the question itself is clear enough

@JarkoDubbeldam It misses a timeframe and cultural context
With/Without those the answers can vary wildly

Yeah, I saw Vylix' comment about culture. Are weddingplans really that different in the US?
Don't get me wrong, I don't think it really is a good question, because the answer is simple. Just tell them. There is little to no point avoiding the issue by trying to bring it differently

Yeah... but what are you going to tell them? We want to reschedule to a month later?

We want to cancel completely, once we've picked a date we might contact you again???

It's info necessary to give an answer as to how to do so most tactfully
I basically started the voting because I saw that HDE's comment had a very valid point.
But, if you're confused: Make a meta! :P
It might avoid a voting war.

8:35 AM
@Tinkeringbell If that's the case, this could be turned into a question about 'how to reschedule a reservation' in general. I see little that makes this special because it is a wedding

@JarkoDubbeldam Hmm... as far as I know, weddings are expensive. Venues sometimes have to plan personnel, disappoint other people...
Now this is about something in May, which is still plenty far away..
Hmmm...
I just think we need to know what they want to do: reschedule or cancel...

@Tinkeringbell well, this was about a church specifcally. so idk
@Tinkeringbell cancel is simple. Tell them you cancel, and deal with possible bad stuff if they had cancellation fees

@JarkoDubbeldam Not everything is black and white for everybody ;)

reschedule, similar, but in addition, you're hoping on goodwill and availability of the postponed date

I had trouble with 'Do you have this in my size' while shopping for years! :P

8:38 AM
@Tinkeringbell but it makes the world so much easier

@JarkoDubbeldam It does ;) But some people need help figuring that out and that's why they ask on IPS

@Tinkeringbell so I tell them to make the world that much easier. (see my answer on that question)
;)

@JarkoDubbeldam Not saying your answer is bad :) Just saying the question could use some more info ;)

And I think it wouldn't change much to my answer

@JarkoDubbeldam then, leave your answer as is when its edited and reopened; -)

I really hope my question doesn't degenerate into a politics discussion, i've tried my hardest to minimize that angle

@Magisch Hmm... I'll take a look at it
(Are you sure you're not trying to push a boundary here? :P )

10:01 AM
@Tinkeringbell Pretty sure, yeah
I've been dealing with this for a while and have to stop myself from angrily yelling at the guy every time

Would it be better to completely remove the exact subject of the rants, just stating it is xenophobic?
I don't think the question currently contains enough fuel to explode, but you can never be too safe

That might be a point and would probably help to generalize

@JarkoDubbeldam I didn't even see the roll-back... nice touch!
Might have done that after reacting to my comment...
Now, let's hope @Catija wakes up early today :P

@Tinkeringbell That's what they are referring to in 'someone edit the question'
I made that edit btw

@JarkoDubbeldam Yeah :) Just saying I saw the comment, not the rollback
@JarkoDubbeldam Next time, tackle the question title as well. It does wonders ;)

my bad

@JarkoDubbeldam Just pointing it out :) I sneakily did that to interpersonal.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/2040/… before posting the meta ;) It got reopened pretty quickly after that

I think it's best to just leave that question and let it die
OP obv doesn't want to cooperate getting it reopened

@JarkoDubbeldam Yesterday, there was an OP that was refusing to co=operate on their question being edited and Shog said to just delete it, then Shog deleted it

10:23 AM
@Mithrandir24601 yea, I can't delete though, so flagged

Users can't if the Q has upvoted answersd

@Mithrandir24601 That's true. So, this needs to be deleted as well :)

On the other hand, the one yesterday was a case of a ~30 edit long war, which is a bit worse than this one

Hmmm.. but this one has a comment stating specifically the OP wants to ask this and nothing else...

The other one, the OP wasn't that 'clear'
@Mithrandir24601 Which is probably why Shog lost their temper and deleted it...

@Mithrandir24601 This got mod-hammered into [on-hold], after which edits attempted to make it more appropriate, and the OP knowingly rolled it back

10:32 AM
"Just delete it already"

A J
@Tinkeringbell I guess there is no need of it. I just wasn't familiar with the word extricating.

@AJ Ah.... let's save a mod some time for serious business then, and delete our comments :)

@Kozaky Sometimes he just starts them when talking to people. Sometimes in meetings. It seems to be whenever he feels like it. I've tried to avoid giving fuel by tiptoeing around topics that could set him off, but that has only mildly reduced the occurences. — Magisch 47 mins ago
@Magisch that should go in the question body :)

Shog can do that

10:43 AM
@Magisch Huh? You talking deleting or editing in a comment? :P

11:41 AM
just had an internship interview
it went pretty well, but I was a bit nervous

@Termatinator nervous is okay... everybody is sometimes. If you have a good interviewer they will recognize that and see through it

hehe
I remember when I applied for an intership at TNO

Yeah... I'm forgetting my manners! :P Where did you apply?

They called it a kennismaking, so I didn't think of it as a fullblown sollicitatie. So I showed up there wearing a goofy t-shirt

oh no, this is a conversation on how it goes. Right now I have done a few weeks of the internship
'stagegesprek' in google translate

11:46 AM
@Termatinator Ah... yeah interview usually means 'sollicitatie' ;)
I think this would be an 'internship progress talk' or something.
Well, did you get useful feedback and lots of compliments?

well, yes. Weirdly enough I denied some of the compliments
Didn't think I earned some of them
If you want to know the name of the company, it is "12Build"

@Termatinator Hmm, you probably did or they wouldn't have been made...

@Tinkeringbell well, they said I was doing quite well, but I said that there was a lot to do on my coding
On wich they agreed, but still said I was doing well, so I denied the compliment

@Termatinator You should be careful not to insult their judgement with that though. If they praise you but you put it aside saying it is bad, you're criticizing their standard for good code

@JarkoDubbeldam no they agreed with my problems about the code

11:53 AM
And you gotta keep in mind that you are doing an internship to learn. So while your work might not be perfect, maybe they detected that you were improving one way or another
Still, it is something to be careful about

And I already knew one of them for over a year, so that made it a bit easier

@Termatinator 'doing well' in an internship is more than just about your code quality :) It's about the improvements you make, the things you can show you have learned. It's also about how you behave in your team etcetera ;)
If any user more familiar with SE knows this:

@Tinkeringbell I know, I just think that the code quality is the most important thing of the internship

Sorry, I didn't realize it. I'm new here and is there any forum for this kind of question? — Awakening Flute 5 mins ago
Please provide the OP with some guidance :)
@Termatinator Not at all ;-) The amount of improvement you've shown you can make over a certain amount of time is what an internship is about

isn't nervousness something that is on-topic

12:00 PM
@Termatinator The improvement in your code quality is the most important thing

@Termatinator I'd say not in this context...
The relationship is the context for an interpersonal question, @1006a... Not the topic. You can be dealing with an interpersonal problem while in a marriage while living in Denmark, or while a member of a bowling league in Boise - in both cases the context is helpful in understanding the problem, but the context isn't the problem. Questions about marriage or bowling or Denmark or Boise don't really belong here... And getting into a discussion about the merits of marriage or of Denmark is in the context of a question doesn't help anyone trying to communicate more effectively with their spouse. — Shog9 ♦ 12 hours ago
nervousness can be a context
But nervousness in general is an intrapersonal thing, so not something we should try remedying here
(But that was my reasoning, feel free to disagree ;) ). You might put the question up on meta...

@Tinkeringbell then wat about the workplace?

@Termatinator Workplace can be a place where the IPS are taking place = on-topic
If the question is 'Is this a good workplace' it's off topic.
@Termatinator Or did you mean referring the question to Workplace.SE?

I meant migrating the question to workplace.se (the site)
because it is related to her work
she wants to feel more comfortable at her work

Knowing TWP, their answer would be 'quit and find a job you do feel comfortable doing'

12:11 PM
then she should state that she doesn't want to leave, that that is not an option
