@BESW I find tonal languages fascinating because you need to learn not only how to say things with the right tones but also how to hear them

Not literature, but an excellent example of the unreliability of "authoritative" sources.

The more questions this site has about erotica, the better off we'll be.

I've noticed that questions about sexuality do mostly well, while questions about race do mostly terribly.

[raises eyebrow] I dunno, that kinda depends on the community's ability to handle it maturely without diving into the deep end of the Freeze Peach pool.
Neither puritanism nor permissiveness is a good look for a Stack site.

...and personally I think that the more questions on erotica there are the harder it will be to moderate.

I really like how much this answer was improved: literature.stackexchange.com/posts/3838/revisions

Q: Searching book title

JackNot sure if this kind of question is allowed here, but I’m looking for the title of a book I read as a kid. It’s about a civilization of little people who live inside a tree, kind of like Terry Prattchett’s Carpet people, just on a tree.

@Mithrandir A common trend I've seen on Stack metas is for a user to cite how very old posts were handled, saying that a new post should be given the same treatment. The response of a mature community is usually "Hey, you're right, our new policies should be applied to old posts!" [old post gets changed]
But on communities that have bought into precedential rulings...

@Bookworm I keep thinking of The Littles and The Borrowers but I don't think it's one of those.

I discovered a huge stash of graphic novels on a lower shelf in the library here
Picked Alison Bechdel's Are You My Mother?
Totally not because of "The Empty Child"

Q: What is the nature of the friendship in Don Henley's "My Thanksgiving"?

EJoshuaSThe first verse My Thanksgiving by Don Henley (from Inside Job) reads as follows: A lot of things have happened Since the last time we spoke Some of them are funny Some of 'em ain't no joke And I trust you will forgive me If I lay it on the line I always thought you were a friend ...

interesting example of how lit analysis often leads to multiple correct answers.

I do think we have actually done a surprisingly good job handling questions about topics such as rape.
And I think the better we get at hard topics, the better we'll get at simpler topics.
And IDK, maybe these questions will draw an audience to the site.

@Hamlet I did :D
Speaking of erotica
Caught my eye in the university library
Darn, I forgot to borrow it today as well

I don't know who's weirder - the people who ordered the Absolutes when there were already the paperbacks, or the library workers who okayed it

@Gallifreyan What's the difference between Absolute and not?

user15026
Is Absolute like an omnibus of the individual ones? If so, I can see a reason for ordering and having both.

@Ash The absolute ones are the black ones on the left, the trade paperbacks are on the right. There are 5 absolutes (one appears taken right now), while there are 10 trade paperbacks
Plus the absolutes are bigger, and seem to contain extra goodies, like extra art and so forth.

@Gallifreyan yeah, looking on wikipedia, it says " Each is presented in a hardcover, dustjacketed and slipcased edition with cloth bookmark consisting of one or more books which include restored, corrected and recolored versions of the original work, reprinted at 8 inches by 12 inches. Also included are supplemental materials regarding the creation of the work, including sketches, comic scripts and memos."

I don't think there's an omnibus of The Sandman, that would be one thick book
Oh, there is a book they call an omnibus, but it's two volumes
I thought an omnibus by definition could only be singular
Guess I need to look up its definition
I guess I should order the omnibus (omnibi? since there are two of them) too, for completeness
And then the 76 single issues so the library can ban me from ordering books forever
On that note, I recently asked them to order Once Upon a Time Machine, a collection of short graphic stories
