Re copyright, I'm not entirely convinced that abolishing it would be a net improvement (although I wouldn't rule it out; the landscape has changed massively in the last four centuries), but the status quo of perpetual copyright is broken af and has already resulted in us losing an awful lot of works both actual and potential.

And on piracy -- if someone goes out of their way to make it hard for me to either give them money, or use the thing I gave them money for, I'm going to fail over to piracy pretty quick. Books, music, and movies are still in that domain for the most part.

If I find an author I like it's easier for me to support them on Patreon than to buy their actual books most of the time and that's just sad.
