:chat! That's seems very simple.
But Ok

21 hours later…
9:06 PM
I just found some super obscure vim behavior that I don't understand.
Try doing :call setreg('"', '') and then pasting
And then try :call setreg('"', []) and then pasting.

I don't see anything strange @DJMcMayhem?

With the first one, it simply doesn't paste, but with the second it gives an error for the register being empty

Oh yes

a... room for vim..?

no error for me o_O

9:10 PM
I got it.

@totallyhuman it's the vim.se site room >_>

(also, why are so many people joining our chat?! This is scary!)

Also, I'm sure most people in this room would appreciate this: stackoverflow.blog/2017/05/23/…

ofc it's a thing

@Riker You use vim right? I just found some super weird undocumented behavior, you might find it interesting, idk

@Carpetsmoker Sorry, I linked my message in another room

9:10 PM
@Carpetsmoker you have been linked

Ah right ;-)

:p

I intended to show riker, but a bunch of people joined

Guess that Vim treats and empty string and list different

the name's intriguing, ok?
:P

9:11 PM
Lurk, lurk, lurk. :P

@DJMcMayhem I don't see any error

I never even realized that a register can contain a list

neither thing does anything visible

:call setreg('"', [1, 2, 3])

oh, I forgot to try to paste
huh

9:12 PM
I saw that weblog post @DJMcMayhem ... Frankly, the "can't quit Vim" joke got a bit old back somewhere around 1996, but shrug

that is odd

@Carpetsmoker I didn't exist at that time. :P

I think it has to do with linewise vs character wise, because if you do :call setreg('"', ['']) you get a blank line.

Maybe someone should make a patch to give instructions to quit vim when you press ^C (\s)
Pretty sure Vim was around in 1996?

It was, but I wasn't

9:13 PM
Oh right

lol

TIL I came into existence shortly after that joke got old.

lol

You think you can look it up in the ChangeLog
The exact date
And it didn't even mention our site either

9:18 PM
:(

How did that get so many upvotes before it got canned :-/
+149/-5
