2:22 AM
Mobile chat doesn't put pictures of Ash! booooooo!
Bear ^^
That's Bear after 3-4 hours of playing with his 4 legged neighbor who comes to visit him
Bear has started to block his friend from leaving (blocks the hole). Bear is way to smart.

roar
Long workday today.

Not as long as mine!
i was off had to go in for 4 hours!
:-) so it was 4 hours longer then I normally work

2 hours later…
4:28 AM
vSphere isn't the product you should be suggesting for a replacement for Hyper-V

Oh, great, someone's awake. Someone I can annoy until they fix my stuff! :)

user226528
@Ramhound Why?

user226528
@Ramhound You still there?

I'm trying to configure pfSense at home... ;____;
You can't help me, Clippy.

Why? Have you ever managed a ESXi environment?

user226528
4:33 AM
@Ramhound Yes. But we are not talking about ESXi.

user226528
vSphere is a cloud virtualization platform.

user226528
It means a virtualization-as-a-service offering.

This one of cases where VMware as names two products exactly the same name!
??
Are you seriously explaining what cloud virtualization is to me?
Seriously about to walk away from this discussion

user226528
@Ramhound You thought it is a remote desktop solution.

user226528
@Ramhound To quote, you said "vSphere is a desktop client (now web client) used to manage vCenter/ESXi infrastructures".

user226528
4:37 AM
FYI, that's vSphere's client.

@Ramhound Sometimes explaining what I think I know about something helps me to see what I don't know, or helps others to see what I've got wrong in my understanding of it.
3

user226528
Indeed. That's axiomatic.

Yes; Your talking about a vCloud Suite where vSphere is a component of
Unless VMware is bloody crazy and has literally two products named exactly the same thing then we're talking about entirely different things

user226528
They have a website you know. You can always look it up.

user226528

user226528
4:41 AM
What did you find?

......
Done; I am not going to interact with somebody who thinks I am not intelligent enough to read the product website before making a comment.

user226528
@Ramhound You are assuming bad faith in me and yourself. Well, don't.

user226528
@Ramhound As Gypsy said, we are simply synchronizing our knowledge.

user226528
We are bound to run into conflict.

user226528
Actually, we already knew there'd be conflict. We came here to iron it out.

user226528
4:47 AM
Anyway, at least as I understand it, vCloud Suite is a suite of services; vSphere is a service; and ESXi is its hypervisor.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
IT LIVES
I have a running pfSense install.
Well, I have a pfSense install. And I'm currently connected thru it.

I blame VMWARE for naming a suite of products vSphere then releasing a client called vSphere client which is useless without ESXi and vCenter and then call those VMs that run on a network (vSphere VMs)
This is why I can't have nice things. Can't believe I paid VMware for those courses...

user226528
@Ramhound I sympathize with that sentiment. VMware is worse than Microsoft when it comes to naming AND constant re-branding.

vSphere is a suite of products, vSphere client manages ESXi/vCenter infrastructures, it does appear that VMWare name a suite of products the same name as a product within that suite. Microsoft should do that and rename Word to Windows Word, Windows Excel, Windows Outlook...
Doesn't help VMware doesn't have a single screenshot or video that actually illustrates what vSphere looks like.
Searching for vSphere just shows videos of sttting up an ESXI/vCenter infrastructure

user226528
As the old story goes: The little boy's mother was off to market. She worried about her boy, who was always up to some mischief. She sternly admonished him, "Be good. Don't get into trouble. Don't eat all the chocolate. Don't spill all the milk. Don't throw stones at the cow. Don't fall down the well." The boy had done all of these things on other market days. Hoping to head off new trouble, she added, "And don't stuff beans up your nose!" This was a new idea for the boy, who promptly tried it out. In our zeal to head off others' unwise action, we may put forth ideas they have not entertained...

user226528
5:01 AM
@Ramhound Well, being a service, it is impossible to take a screenshot from it. It is like trying to take a screenshot from Office 365. You end up with a screenshot of Microsoft Office or Microsoft Exchange.

user226528
Oh, wait. Scratch that. Office 365 actually has an exclusive dashboard.

Except it's not just a cloud service, because my infrastructure, isn't in the cloud...
I look at a huge server rack daily.
"VMware vSphere virtualization" so ESXi is the hypervisor and vSphere is I guess what they call their virtualization technology itself.
You would think after $10k and in courses and 4 exams it would be clear

user226528
@JourneymanGeek "Nope" to what? To the naming or the clarity after exams?

Yes
> You would think after $10k and in courses and 4 exams it would be clear
this bit
on the other hand, I've actually worked with ESXi professionally so ....

5:07 AM
I also do?

@Ramhound eh. I know they're different cause I had no clue when I started learning

user226528
@Ramhound Anyway, it appears vSphere offers Secure Boot as a service, not as part of the their underlying ESXi hypervisor. In other words, as a service, they load this firmware and Microsoft's certificate into the hypervisor.

also, there's a web and desktop client, right?
@FleetCommand ._.
zat makes no sense

user226528
Why not?

vSphere is just a way to talk to the API
and you're not running it all the time

user226528
5:08 AM
@JourneymanGeek Also a service, dear.

user226528
Or so it seems.

user226528
That's three of us with three different definitions right now.

unless you mean vCentre...

user226528
If DavidPostill comes, we'd a fourth definition.

Actually I think we're talking about vCloud in that case, lol

5:10 AM
which is a paid for addon, which adds stuff

vSphere is contained in about 6 features, and 2 products
(The word vSphere)
It's also the name for their virtualization SDK...

user226528
THEY ARE CHANGING THE NAME OF ESXi! Argh...

user226528
It is going to be called vSphere Hypervisor!

What?

@FleetCommand .... WRT your meta post...
Which comments?
I see a load of unhandled ones ;p
errr
OH
That was me!
Lemme go see why
@FleetCommand the question was closed anyway. Didn't really see the benefit, considering it would be roomaed eventually

user226528
5:15 AM
@JourneymanGeek roomaed???

user226528
That a word?

roombaed
IT IS HERE.
It means it gets cleaned up automatically eventually

I just manage this server....had to take courses to prevent it from crashing every week, and it still does, but that's because of RHEL not VMware...

@FleetCommand answered the meta post

user226528
@JourneymanGeek Bloody unwritten rules and priciples make this place like theShelob's lair.

user226528
5:21 AM
@JourneymanGeek What about the 19 other flags that I raised and got declined?

@FleetCommand All I can say is "someone reads through all of them, and decides what's appropriate"
Having to explain what's essentially a 1 minute moderation task at worst in each and every instance tho...

user226528
@JourneymanGeek That's definition of anarchy. 100% of times there is extenuating circumstances. No rule of the law.

erm. We are the law? For some reason?
and a very important part of law is appropriate application

user226528
@JourneymanGeek And yet that's not the core purpose of the law. The core purpose is for everyone to know what's right and what's wrong, and when they are prosecuted, they know why.

@FleetCommand to a very large extent 'the way we do things' has grown organically
We try out best to be consistant, but we also try our best to do what we feel is most useful

user226528
5:38 AM
@JourneymanGeek Yes. And I don't dispute that it has been in good faith. But it has not been enough. I feel wronged and unwelcome here all the times.

@FleetCommand I can't really help with that
I certainly can't decide on flags based on who's flagging them

user226528
@JourneymanGeek And that's exactly what I don't want you to do.

so there's no unwelcomeness.
Wronged, I really donno

user226528
But who can help with that? Someone with the power to change laws for the better?

Problem is really, a more "structured" moderation system would be... inflexible
The best I can do is let you folks know 'why' I took specific actions
besides, if it didn't need us, they'd throw it in a review queue

Bob
5:42 AM
floof
I really should change accounts when I say that

Which I would add, is potentially more arbitrary

Bob
anything happening today?

We bought a car ;p

5 people can read a review candidate and suggest 3 different actions that should be taken.

Bob
5:44 AM
@JourneymanGeek already? that was fast
you need to teach your parents the way of the 3 month rule :P

My dad liked it ;p
@Bob alas no ;p
Its not bad tho. Its bigger than the volvo
I'm concerned he didn't test drive it
but shrug

@Bob wanna do anything or do I continue learning Grails? :P

@Bob he would have probably bought it on the spot XD

Bob
6:08 AM
@allquixotic I'm kinda busy today, sorry. Maybe tonight (morning for you)?

@Bob sure, just send a text :P

Bob
@allquixotic though depending on how tired I am I might sleep (or work on Cavil :P)
tired debugging somehow works
didn't sleep much last night, urk

1 hour later…
Bob
7:16 AM
@allquixotic Groovy on Rails? :P

user226528
7:49 AM
Finally. I am back online. Just rescued the company from full network outage.

Bob
o.O

@FleetCommand waaaait. Are you flag banned?

user226528
Yes

sigh
also, there's actually nothing obvious that tells me someone is.
also I believe @Burgi was flag banned in the past and may have useful advice.

8:13 AM
hi

user226528
@Rahul2001 Hi.

:)

8:33 AM
He's not yet flag banned:

Flagging status

Not banned from flagging
Warned when flagging

Ah. Erf.missed that

When you stumble across an abandoned youtube channel with a single video from 5 years ago and 40 views: youtube.com/watch?v=WQ6zJ7CdW70

9:39 AM
@Rahul2001 ._.

user226528
Connection re-established. In laymen's term, I am backkkk!!!
What did I miss?

user226528
@DavidPostill Sorry. 11 years and 1 month in Wikipedia has localized the meaning of "ban" for me. In Wikipedia "ban" means the same thing that people mean outside digital world. In Wikipedia, what you call "ban" is called "block". Sorry for my confusion.

user226528
In real world and on Wikipedia, "you are banned from doing such and such" means if you do it, you'll be punished.
On the Internet forums, "you are banned from doing such and such" means you are not able to do it even if you wanted it, because your ability is taken away.

user226528
Blocking policy and Banning policy (obligatory proofs)

10:20 AM
We use both words here - which can be confusing. When you can't do you something you are **banned** from doing it. When you try and do something (and you're banned from doing it) you are **blocked** from preferring the action.

Example: When you are review banned your are blocked from performing reviews.

@FleetCommand heh. We arn't wikipedia
also, it took several hours to work out why you were so annoyed ._.

user226528
@JourneymanGeek heh. You arn't real world either.

did I say realworld?

user226528
@JourneymanGeek During which I was trying to resolve a network outage.

yup
I mean, if you weren't you I'd have assumed it was a troublemaker and just blahed it off.

user226528
10:27 AM
@JourneymanGeek For doing what? Confusing ban with block? Or complaining that my flags are being rejected?

complaining comment flags were rejected

10:44 AM
Man, I really don't want to use GoDaddy but namecheap doesn't support the xyz tld

user226528
@Rahul2001 The way you put it, it kinda reminds me that "daddy" is often used as a tongue-in-cheek word in Hollywood movies.

heh.
Anyone know of suitable alternatives?

user226528
Comodo?

@FleetCommand Ehhh

user226528
@Rahul2001 Arda must have tried Verisign. "They suck" would have had an entire new meaning for him.

11:01 AM
YAY! MUM IS BUYING ME A DOMAIN!

@Rahul2001 might I suggest namecheap?
ah, they don't do xyz

user226528
@Rahul2001 So, you are going to be the master of your own domain!

:P

user226528
:b

Hm, I'm buying a .tech from namecheap right now, I'll see about the xyz later. GoDaddy has it for just USD 1 though...

user226528
11:08 AM
$1?

user226528
:O

@Rahul2001 What? I'm pretty sure they do. I've got 2 from Namecheap.
checks Yep, 2 registered xyz domains from Namecheap.

@MichaelFrank I recall that they used to too, idk what's up now

Huh.. so they don't support it anymore. Weird.
Lemme ask the live chat...

user226528
Namecheap offers .global for $64.88. GoDaddy offers it for $20.

11:13 AM
> To our regret, that TLD is no longer available at Namecheap and unfortunately we do not have additional information or details regarding this TLD. Still you can follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Google+, read our blog and subscribe to our newsletters in order to stay tuned.
There you have it, straight from the horse's mouth.

user226528
Well, since you first read it in their website, I guess that makes it from horse's handwriting.

@FleetCommand *typing

user226528
...hoofwriting.

user226528
@JourneymanGeek I said the same thing about Harry Potter series and Hermione Granger.

12:24 PM
OH HELL YEAH!
rahul.tech is MINE!

lol

@Rahul2001 I thought you were banned from the internet?

oh yeah

@DavidPostill I managed to get access for a few hours, because homework. Mum has decided I can use computers on Sunday.
And for 30 minutes on the rest of the days
Which is okay, i guess.

so generous.

12:33 PM
I think she might change her mind...

Today is probably the last day of work for me as a sports photographer.
CUNYAC baseball and softball championship finals.
If the job search goes well, I should have a job in the IT/computing industry in the coming months.
If not, I'll continue to take pictures for the college.
I'm still actively planning a career with my career counselor. I expect to start small by working in a mom-and-pop computer repair shop or as IT support and gradually work my way up into the datacenter.

12:52 PM
OH MY GAWD. @Burgi This is exactly what I've been looking for all this time: anchorcms.com

1:39 PM
Can a moderator tell me when that comment that I reported made on this question superuser.com/questions/1206749/… was published because I received multiple SO downvotes to my questions around 1800 yesterday.
I am asking for them to be deassociated from my account.

@Ramhound Which comment are you referring to? One of the deleted ones that you flagged?

@DavidPostill The "if your going to ... don't even bother helping" comment

But nevermind the user didn't even have a SO account that can issue downvotes
Alright, it was also only 6 hours ago

@Ramhound 2 downvotes wont get reversed :/

1:50 PM
@DavidPostill Yes; But it's multiple downvotes over a long period. These are questions from 2013, with very little activity, and the day I hide my SO profile on SU they basically stopped
At the point where, I want the SO account deleted, even if that means starting over to stop SU users with SO reputation from finding random questions I asked in the past.

@Ramhound I can see SO in your network profile - although that could be my mod powers.

I will attempt to change the username on just SO to something else, that way, nobody can link it. It's suppose to be hidden....if it's not hidden perhaps...they wil tell me so (got an email in) when they respond:-)

@Ramhound Well if someone really wants to find it they can go to stackoverflow.com/users and search -- regardless of whether you have hidden it.

Yes; Which is the reason I just changed it to something random!
What I likely will do is change it monthly. If it wasn't for the answer to other people's questions I would just request the entire account to be unassociated.

Apparently the German family that just moved into the neighbourhood are big Nazi supporters. :(

2:03 PM
@Ramhound I promise not to disclose your new name ;)
@Ramhound You still need to change your chat parent user though. That directly links to your SO profile ...

So my chat, for SO, or my chat profile overall?
Nevermind :-)

@Ramhound I see you figured it out :)

@Rahul2001 o0

The good news I am not worried about the behavior of anyone in the room currently :-)

2:23 PM
lol
@Ramhound pity they don't do 'SE' accounts any more
my sock is just emailaddress+sockpuppet@gmail.com

@Rahul2001 DAFUQ HAPPENED!
Did your family just went "hey, our son is good with computers, tech carrers are great, he has this gift, he's curious, it's promising... I know, let's forbid him touching computers!"

AYe comrade.
Indian families are cray cray.

Did they found his por... ahem ISO collection?

naw, they just want people to study.

Yeah, if I had a kid I'd want him to study too

2:30 PM
AT ALL COSTS
its like those people who have dogs just for agility training.

Like, I went to sleep yesterday at 5 am because I WAS BUILDING PFSENSE WITH 2 ROUTERS AND 1 MINI ITX PC BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS FUN
If I had a kid like that I would be dam proud.
As a parent I'd say "well, 5 am is nuts go to sleep kiddo"
But otherwise I'd be proud and supportive
Because research and curiosity is studying.
Memorizing dates and river affluents isn't.

@ThatRussianGuy hah, I have no idea what came over mum.

@Rahul2001 Wait, she didn't even explained her reasoning?!
"You're from now on banned from using computers. Because yes. Now go to your room".

@ThatRussianGuy I'm very good at studies, that's no decent reason.
@ThatRussianGuy eh. It's kinda because whenever I use the computer my younger sister argues that she should be allowed to use her iPad. She never studies and her grades are falling.
And all she does on the iPad is chat and watch TV shows

Bob
@JourneymanGeek my sock has its own domain :P
my main doesn't even have its own domain

2:36 PM
lol

Oh, it's because your parents suck at parenting.
@Bob Left foot or right foot?

Bob
@ThatRussianGuy right hind

@ThatRussianGuy Eh. It's only my mum and she has a lot to manage (court cases filed by dad and being the only source of income and taking care of the family), so I don't blame her at all. My sister can be very tough to deal with.

Well. It's easy for me to criticize, I don't have kids... I don't feel ready to take care of a house pet or even a plant, let alone a kid. Kudos to her in that sense.

@Rahul2001 well done for being sensible about it
as an adult, haha that's funny to say, we some times make stupid decisions
but feel it'd make it look stupider if we then reversed said decision *(See Trump, Brexit)
so instead we stand by what we've said, even if in the cold light of day it doesn't really make sense
but as you've said, i think your mum is allowed to have a off moment atm

2:47 PM
MAGIC RAM DISKS! \o/
And growing!

3:05 PM
Available: -3.6M
And then unbound (pfSense's DNS resolver) dies.

Bob
3:43 PM
> I take it you already know
of tough and bough and cough and dough?
Others may stumble, but not you
on hiccough, thorough, slough and through.
Well done! And now you wish, perhaps,
To learn of less familiar traps?

Beware of heard, a dreadful word
That looks like beard and sounds like bird.
And dead; it's said like bed, not bead.
For goodness sake, don't call it deed!
Watch out for meat and great and threat,
(They rhyme with suite and straight and debt)

A moth is not a moth in mother,
Nor both in bother, broth in brother.

@Bob lol. And here is one for you:
Dearest creature in creation,
Study English pronunciation.
I will teach you in my verse
Sounds like corpse, corps, horse, and worse.
I will keep you, Suzy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy.
Tear in eye, your dress will tear.
So shall I! Oh hear my prayer.

Just compare heart, beard, and heard,
Dies and diet, lord and word,
Sword and sward, retain and Britain.
(Mind the latter, how it's written.)
Now I surely will not plague you
With such words as plaque and ague.
But be careful how you speak:

Bob
@DavidPostill I find this one easier to read :P

> If you can pronounce correctly every word in this poem, you will be speaking English better than 90% of the native English speakers in the world.

Bob
Except Terpsichore. wtf is a terpsichore o.O

In Greek mythology, Terpsichore (/tərpˈsɪkəriː/; Τερψιχόρη) "delight in dancing" was one of the nine Muses and goddess of dance and chorus. She lends her name to the word "terpsichorean" which means "of or relating to dance". She is usually depicted sitting down, holding a lyre, accompanying the ballerinas' choirs with her music. Her name comes from the Greek words τέρπω ("delight") and χoρός ("dance"). She is also a mother of the sirens and Parthenope. == In popular culture == === Historical === The British 32-gun frigate HMS Terpsichore (1785) commanded by Captain Bowen participated i...

Bob
3:49 PM
I can't read IPA :(
should probably learn that one of these days

Bob
@DavidPostill yea, already watched :P

4:08 PM
Hm, haven't seen @qasdfdsaq around in ages...

Does someone know why do I get this weird chart/title chart?
There it is normal

4:36 PM
@ThatRussianGuy still got issues with pfsense?
also name change?

@djsmiley2k Turns out I had to manually set the two interface IPs and netmasks and stuff
Despite it getting an upstream address from the router's DHCP
Anyhow, it works. Now I want to run ntopng and squid and also some sort of traffic shaping or limiter.
ntopng already works but it dumps data to /var and it is a 58MB ramdisk
after it fills, the DNS service stops.
I'm running it from a 4GB USB stick.

5:06 PM
@ThatRussianGuy no! No limiter! Use fq_codel qdisc

5:26 PM
@Rahul2001 Missing in action since the ASDA incident.
He has been on the site but not in chat.

asda?

5:43 PM
ah i see
well i don't
but alas

@djsmiley2k He got suspended and left chat in a huff.

yeah
hm
i have thoughts on this
but won't share them, as no point bringng up old stuff :D

6:44 PM
B.S. suspension, IMO. Not that TPTB care about MO ;-)

Bob
@allquixotic I always read TPTB as someone blowing a raspberry :P

Samsung - Shang Tsung... Rhymes well.

@allquixotic bs as in cow poop?

Anyway. What's the fuzz with 3D glasses. There's dozen of brands I never heard off. Must be a new trend.

for 3d tvs?

6:55 PM
@djsmiley2k For smartphone...

oh
like the google cardboard thing

@Boris_yo according to the announcer in Mortal Kombat, the "Tsung" is pronounced SOON-g, but at least in the US we pronounce Samsung with the "sung" like the English word sung
doesn't rhyme in USAian accent :P

SOON?
Oh I see what you did there.
Can't find meme with Shang Tsung...

I want to make a site exactly like this : bibleofsatan.pw
Can someone please help me?
Have you seen a website like this before?

7:17 PM
yes
and no don't know how

my win10 lock screen is blank
anyone else ran into that issue?

Yeah. Press Enter. Wait 10 minutes. Press Enter again.
Manually restart when you realize the futility.

nvm fixed it

Yup, works every time :)

i set it to slideshow then back to spotlight and they are back :)

7:24 PM
Ah.

i've ordered a computer desk so i can finally stop using boxes to prop up my screens

maybe that was genuinely a photo?

@djsmiley2k a totally uniform blue?

sure :D
really close up of the ... errm sky? XD

lol

1 hour later…
9:52 PM
