@ConorO'Brien I heard something about JScript for Linux once and I know there's JScript .NET, but I'm fuzzy on the details.

I will be VERY surprised if you
are able to find something as proprietary as cscript on linux

A: Is it possible to run a VBScript in UNIX environment?

rutskyNot sure about Unices, but on GNU/Linux it is possible to run VBScript using Wine, but VBScript support is limited. On Debian/Ubuntu you can install as follows: $ sudo apt-get install wine ... $ To run from command line: $ wine cscript some-script.vbs or $ wine wscript some-script.vbs ...

The VBScript and CScript interpreters can only run JScript, not JScript.NET, which is a compiled language (same category like C#, F# and VB.NET) implementing ECMAS 4. In contrast, jsc, the JScript.NET compiler is written in .NET. The only things you need are jsc.exe and Microsoft.JScript.dll (the runtime). However, I know from personal experience that these assemblies require major patching and partly rewrites to be run on Mono.

However, making a patched version publicly available would be legally dubious at best. There were some efforts from the Mono team to rewrite JS.NET (mjs), but it was DOA.
