Say, could someone help me figure out this sequence's pattern? It was a question on a thing I had, so I assume theres a pattern, but I couldn't figure it out
3,8,23,60,203
I was given 3,8,23,60 and I was supposed to guess the next term

@dydxx Sadly, it is 60, not 68

10:11 PM
@VishalGupta Hello and welcome to my realm!
@BrevanEllefsen :P

Thanks :). How does it work here? I am clueless

@VishalGupta You start by saying hi, explain stuff about yourself if you want, and join in
we do math here btw
and occasionally politics, moral judgements, etc.

I see. but the description says "room for totally random people to hang"

oh i see the tag of recreational math

10:14 PM
But I have the recreational-mathematics
:D
Got you there! XD

Nice, so we just talk like civilized people about math. Thats a great idea
So can one also ask serious math questions?

Lol
Civilized...
Yes, of course!
@VishalGupta ASK ALREADY XD

great :). I'll come back when I have one. Right now, just exploring; sorry to have whet your appetite and then not provide a beverage :p

@VishalGupta No problem :p
We do small chat as well, if you are interested

like small talk in real life? was never good at that xD

10:21 PM
XD

waiting for the Spring eagerly
whereabouts are you? or are personal questions off the table?

Uh, I am in America?

are you telling me or asking me xD. I am in Europe btw

Telling you... I think...

I am in New Zealand

10:26 PM
Oh wow, never been there @dydxx

I've never been to Europe haha

You are welcome :). There's ton to visit (aside from Mathematicians )

haha, true

@SimplyBeautifulArt I posted an MSE-Meta question addressing your tag inquiry

I HAVE BEEN SUMMONED

SUMMONING HAS OCCURRED
THE DEMON HAS AWOKEN

Want a cookie?

heck yes

gives him a cookie

11:53 PM
🍪
consumes the cookie

nom nom nom we eat all the cookies
Anyways, I'm not good with programming and stuff, so all I can do is look
:-/

:/ I'm decent at programming, and can even knock out some LaTeX, but MathJax is some weird conglomerate of MathML and Markdown and some LaTeX libraries ported to Javascript

So serious question: when you are studying material on your own (for example, in a textbook) do you actually do the exercises or do you just skim through them and keep reading?

I usually skim, then try to do

11:57 PM
I find that I enjoy reading through worked examples, and might even do a couple myself, but I almost never actually do most of the examples
I only ask

because the Abstract Algebra text I bought is 2/3 examples, and about half of the examples are actually new and important material
so about 1/3 of the material requires me to do the examples

Well, I've never asked a question on how to do a particular contour integral, now have I?

which makes it harder to quickly pick up things :P

11:59 PM
I'm not sure what you meant with that last comment
the one before "Lol"
I mean, I agree you haven't
