@TheDestroyer @KeshavSrinivasan I do not know where the concept of Sharanagati or Sharanagati ritual exists in Shaiva Aagams or in Shaivism... but concept of Sharanagati to Lord Shiva certainly exists in Upanishads.. like in 4.21 of Shwetashwatara Upanishad:
It is because Thou, O Lord, art birthless, that some rare souls, frightened by birth and
death, take refuge in Thee. O Rudra, may Thy south facing face protect me for ever!

2:12 AM
It's quiet unbelievable that you don't know about Harambe. You may look at this article - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Harambe. Basically, Harambe was a God who came to the earth in the form of a Gorilla. However, the sinners killed him. He died to relieve us, the humans, of sins and sufferings. — Shakhar 2 hours ago
Does anyone knows about Harambe?...

@SreeCharan Yes, Vedanta Desikan composed the Hayagriva Stotram and used it to get Hayagriva to appear before him in Thiruvahindrapuram, a place I discuss in my question here:
4
Q: Who did Vishnu appear before in Thiruvahindrapuram, Bhumidevi or Bhumadevi?

Keshav SrinivasanI'm currently visiting India, and I went to the town of Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu. It contains a place called Thiruvahindram, one of the 108 Divya Desams. As I discuss in this question, the Alwars (also spelled Azhwars) are a group of 12 ancient Vaishnava saints who lived in Tamil Nadu and are f...

@Tezz I don't think that verse has to do with complete surrender to Shiva, it just has to do with praying.

4:34 AM
@Tezz haha. If all those who help become God, then I'm already God. Haha.

@TheDestroyer haha...

@Tezz Veda Samhitas talk about Paramathmaka Satya?

@TheDestroyer talkings like what...?

@Tezz generally..
Or they say statements that apply to all 3 realities

4:59 AM
@TheDestroyer I think it depends on text... for eg.. this popular verse of RigVeda talks of Paramartha reality...
46 They call him Indra, Mitra, Varuṇa, Agni, and he is heavenly nobly-winged Garutmān.
To what is One, sages give many a title they call it Agni, Yama, Mātariśvan.
Similarly Nasidya Sukta talks of Unmanifested Reality...
Hiranyagarbhà Sukta talks of Manifested Karya Brahman...
Rudra Sukta talks of omnipresence of Brahman...
Purush Sukta talks of Manifested Karana Brahman...
Adhyatma Sukta talks how one God transformed himself to many...
Kaala Sukta talks how Time is form of Brahman..
And so on....

@Pandya @SreeCharan Apropros of our discussion yesterday, I decided to write a answer listing some of the texts I've read:
0
A: Which texts have you read?

Keshav SrinivasanNote: I don't generally read Hindu scriptures and works linearly from beginning to end. So here is a list of some of the texts I've read, in whole or in part: Samhitas of the Vedas: Rig Veda Samhita Taittiriya Samhita of the Yajur Veda Vajasaneyi Samhita of the Yajur Veda Sama Veda Samhita At...

@Tezz You may also find it interesting, because of the Purva Mimamsa works listed near the bottom.

@KeshavSrinivasan omg... interesting... you finally answered that question...

5:15 AM
@Tezz Haha yeah

@KeshavSrinivasan in the Upanishad you forgot to write one : Jabala Upanishad...

@Tezz Oh yes, the Varana and Nasi thing. I'll add it.

@KeshavSrinivasan hmm....
@KeshavSrinivasan in the Aagams you have written Brahma Samhita.. is it Iskcons Samhita or Pancharatra Samhita..?...

@Tezz The ISKCON one that I don't consider to be authentic. In this list I included lots of things I don't consider authentic.
@Tezz But in any case, ISKCON people claim that it is a Pancharatra Agama.

@KeshavSrinivasan oh ... so it means Iskcon claim Brahma Samhita is related to Pancaratra...
@KeshavSrinivasan actually Pancaratra contains dialogue of whom and whom.. Shiva and Parvati.. or Sage Narayana and sages.. or something other...?

5:25 AM
Amazing, Awesome, Marvellous, Extraordinary, Hyperphysical and Miraculous! — Pandya 6 mins ago
@KeshavSrinivasan Mandukya mentioned twice

@Tezz It varies. The Lakshmi Tantra is a dialogue between Lakshmi and Indra. There's one which is a dialogue between Shiva and someone, and another which is a dialogue between Narada and some Rishis, etc.
@Pandya Haha thanks for the kind words.
@Pandya OK, I fixed it.

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok....

@Tezz Yeah, Gaudiya Vaishnavas claim that Chaitanya Mahaprabhu found a lost Pancharatra Agama buried underneath the Adikeshava Perumal temple, as I discus here:
2
Q: Are there any references to the Brahma Samhita before Chaitanya Mahprabhu?

Keshav SrinivasanAs I discuss in this question, one of the early movements that was important to the development of Vaishnavism was the ancient Pancharatra movement, whose sacred texts consisted of detailed procedures to worship the sage Narayana, an ancient incarnation of Vishnu. The Pancharatra movement eventu...

I think we will have to scroll down once more if @KeshavSrinivasan hasn't written 18 purans in one line! /cc @Tezz haha

@Pandya no it is not mistake.. it was intentional... it means that he read Mandukya Upanishad twice... haha.. lol..😀😀
@KeshavSrinivasan so, why don't you believe in Brahma Samhita... (btw I had already read that question)..

5:30 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan Have you read Gaudapada Karika on Mandukya Upanishad? You can mention it.

@Tezz Haha, I've read the Mandukya Upanishad and Gaudapada's Karika numerous times.
@Pandya Oh yes, I forgot about that.

@KeshavSrinivasan I think you can also provide nice answer to my featured question as you've read 8 Aagamic scriptures.

@Pandya Yeah, I may post an answer.

@KeshavSrinivasan Thanks.

@KeshavSrinivasan the answer given by Rickross there says that:
a. Pancharatra, considered as the most authoritative. They consist of seven groups:

Brahma
Shaiva
Kaumara
Vasishtha
Kapila
Gautamiya
Naradiya
What is this?...

5:35 AM
@Tezz Because there seems to be absolutely no reference to the Brahma Samhita before the time of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. And scholars have examined the language and found it to be incredibly modern.

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok...

@Tezz Hmm, I've never heard of that. Maybe it refers to who the person is who is narrating the Agama.

I think there may be some conflict as some consider as Shruti and some Smriti. e.g. KeshavSrinivasan and SwamiVishwananda

@Pandya Yeah, let me try to find a reference for Agamas being Shruti.

@KeshavSrinivasan yes I was also thinking the same...
@Pandya I do not agree Aagama is Shruti like Veda which is authorless ..

5:39 AM
@Tezz I know Shaiva Agamas are supposed to come in two forms. In half of them Shiva talks to Parvati and in half of them Parvati talks to Shiva. But I've come across lots of Shaiva Agamas which don't feature Shiva and Parvati as characters.

I think this is 31st Dec 2016's surprise for us! /cc @TheDestroyer @Tezz Haha

@Pandya Haha

@Pandya I just consider Aagam are like Puranic mantras . .. which are either told by Gods in Puranas... or sages themselves know/create by meditation... and are transferred as Shrutis...
@Pandya haha lol...
@KeshavSrinivasan oh ok.. so who are the characters in them..?...

@Tezz Yes, Of-course I think almost all will be agree that Agarma is lesser authoritative than Veda but many considers it as Aagama Shruti like Nigama (Veda)

@Pandya yes...

5:44 AM
@Tezz Well, for instance the Raurava Agama involves the sage Ruru to a bunch of sages, the Kirana Agama involves Shiva talking to Garuda, the Parakhya Tantra involves some Rishi talking to his Shishya, etc.

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok...

@Tezz By the way, the Adikeshava Perumal temple where Chaitanya Mahaprabhu discovered the Brahma Samhita is completely different from the Adi Keshava Perumal temple discussed in my question here:
3
Q: What scriptures describe Vishnu freeing the Bhutas from the curse of Shiva?

Keshav SrinivasanI just came back from a trip to India, and one of the places I visited was Sri Perumbudur. As I discuss here, it is the birthplace of the famous Sri Vaishnava Acharya Ramanujacharya. But my question about the Vishnu temple here, the great Adi Keshava Perumal temple. The story of this temple is...

@Tezz Both are in Tamil Nadu and both are called "Adikeshava Perumal", but one is located in Sri Perumbudur near Chennai, and the other is located at Kanyakumai near the Southern tip of India.
@Tezz Since both are called Adikeshava I wonder which is actually "Adi" or first, haha

@KeshavSrinivasan So, you've read many Dharma Shashtras (Manu, Yajnavalkya, Vashishtha, Guatama Smrities etc.) Which you find more useful (can you tell your top 3 favourite among them)?

@KeshavSrinivasan oh I didn't knew that story...
@KeshavSrinivasan haha...

@Pandya Well, the Dharma Shastras don't contain too many differences, but the one I turn to first is usually the Manu Smriti. Also the Vaikhanasa Dharma Sutras are interesting for me, because they allow me to imagine what the Dharma Sutras of the Ekayana Shakha of the Shukla Yajur Veda (which is what the Pancharatra Agamas are associated with) would have looked like.
@Tezz It looks like the one in Sriperumbudur is older, because it was originally built by Shiva's Bhutas, and then was rebuilt by Rama's ancestor Harita. Whereas the one in Kanyakumari is where Krishna deleted the demon Keshi.

5:55 AM
@SreeCharan I think now, you should/can ask this question to KeshavSrinivasan instead! :)

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok...
@Pandya which question...?

@Tezz By the way, Rama's ancestor Harita was converted into a Brahmana by Vishnu and he and his Brahmana descendants continued living in Sri Perumbudur serving Adi Keshava Perumal. One of his descendants was Ramanujacharya.
@Tezz This question:
14 hours ago, by Sree Charan
@Pandya There is a big list of scriptures you have read. How do you manage your time? If you don't mind, what is your age?

@Tezz ^^ I think you might be on mobile chat that's why you can't trace the messages or replies. right?

@Tezz That's the reason why Ramanujacharya's father was called Keshavacharya, because the family was devoted to the Adikeshava Perumal temple.

@Pandya Yes...
@KeshavSrinivasan Harita was Kshetriya first..?

6:06 AM
@Tezz Yeah, he was a Suryavanshi king of Ayodhya.

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok..

@KeshavSrinivasan I think you can link your list to your profile and here also.

@Tezz Harita was the grandson of Vishnu's devotee Ambarisha.

@KeshavSrinivasan Ambarisha of that Durvasa story..?..

@Tezz Yeah, the Durvasa story. And Ambarisha was the brother of Muchukunda and the son of Vishnu's incarnation Mandhata.

6:12 AM
How about answering What are the Hindu scriptures which every Hindu should abide by? like "You should abide by those scriptures of/to which @KeshavSrinivasan is abide by!! Haha

@Pandya Haha

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok...
@KeshavSrinivasan I think you should quickly correct it "Technically Upanishads are classified as Smriti, not Shruti like the rest of the Vedas, because they consists of words of human beings rather than words of divine origin. "

@KeshavSrinivasan Did Ramanujacharya used to say/mention Shruti or Smriti while quoting Upanishads in his work?

@Tezz @Pandya Yeah, Upanishads are Shruti, that was written in the site's early days when I didn't know as much.

@KeshavSrinivasan so you should correct it soon...

6:19 AM
Aug 3 at 4:50, by Keshav Srinivasan
@Pandya Yes, I should change that answer. That was written in the early days of the site when I didn't know as much.

@Tezz OK, I edited it.
@Pandya Haha, at least I'm consistent with my language :-)
@Tezz By the way, you can see the Gotra Pravaras for Harita Gotra here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pravaras "Harita, Ambarisha,Yuvanasva"
@Tezz By the way, I'm not sure if I've asked you this before but what Gotra do you belong to?

@KeshavSrinivasan hmm.. nice 👍👍👍

@Pandya And what Gotra do you belong to?

@KeshavSrinivasan I belong to Bhardvaja Gotra... what is your Gotra?...

@Tezz I belong to Vadhula Gotra. My Gotra Pravaras are Bhargava, Vaitahavya, Savedasa.

6:23 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan Ok...

in Hinduism, Oct 12 '15 at 10:21, by Pandya
@KeshavSrinivasan Veda: Samveda and Gotra: Shandilya

Shandilya Vidya...

@Tezz Your Pravaras are "Angirasa, Barhaspatya, Bharadwaja". That's becaus Bharadwaja was the illegitimate child of Brihaspati and his sister-in-law Mamata.

@Tezz Yes, SarvakhalvidamBrahma from Chhandogya Upanishad of Smaveda.

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh... I didn't knew that...
@Pandya haha...
@KeshavSrinivasan haha... so my gene contains gene of Brihaspati also...😀😀

6:26 AM
@Tezz See my question here:
1
Q: Does Dirghatamas ever call Vishnu Keshava in the Vedas?

Keshav SrinivasanOne of the most popular names of both Krishna and Vishnu is my name, Keshava. There are two common explanations of the name: "one who has Keshu", i.e. long hair, and "the killer of Keshi", a demon killed by Krishna. But in this chapter of the Shanti Parva of the Mahabharata, Krishna gives anoth...

@Tezz @KeshavSrinivasan My Shakha is Kauthuma. What are yours?

@Pandya I belong to the Apastamba Shakha of the Krishna Yajur Veda. The Apastamba Shakha is lost though. All that's left is its Sutra texts, and a text called the Apastamba Mantra Prashna.

@Pandya I don't know my Shakha...

@Tezz Do you at least know your Veda?

@KeshavSrinivasan I don't know...
English translation "Do you at least know your Knowledge?" Haha...

6:31 AM
@Pandya I just realized that your ancestor is a character featured in your own Shakha of the Veda, since the Chandogya Upanishad is part of the Kauthuma Shakha of the Sama Veda. That's really cool.
@Tezz Haha
@Tezz Why don't you ask some elder member of your family for your Veda and Shakha? That's really important information.

@KeshavSrinivasan My pravar is called त्रिप्रवर i.e "TriPravar" but don't find Wikipedia reference.

@Pandya Wikipedia lists five sets of Pravaras for Shandilya Gotra: "Sandilya (5 Variations)
Kasyapa,Aavatsaara,Naidhruva
Kasyapa,Aavatsaara,Sandilya
Kasyapa, Daivala, Asitha
Kasyapa,Aavatsaara,Nidhruva,Rebha,Ribhya,Shandila,Sandilya
Kasyapa,Thivala,Asitha,Aavatsara,Thiswatha,Reparesha,Sandilya"

@Tezz you can look for Veda-Shakha information from/in your lineage-cousins also.

@Pandya The first three sets consists of three names each, so you must belong to one of those.
@Pandya By the way, my mom is Naidhruva Kashyapa Gotram, which is descended from Kashyapa's grandson Nidhruva. Nidhruva is mentioned in three of the sets of Pravaras for Shandilya Gotra. So we may be related, haha

@KeshavSrinivasan Hmm...

6:39 AM
@Tezz To know more about Shaiva Agamas read this

@Pandya By the way, what Grihya Sutra text do you follow? I follow the Apastamba Grihya Sutra. Is there a Kauthuma Grihya Sutra?

@KeshavSrinivasan I don't know.
@TheDestroyer Is that blog run by you?

@Pandya lol. No.

@Pandya Oh, during the Abhivadhanam that's recited at the end of any Hindu ritual, I say "Apastamba Sutraha". Have you ever done Abhivadhanam, where you put your hands behind your ears?

@TheDestroyer Btw, what about your Gotra, Veda, Shakha, Pravara?

6:45 AM
@Pandya Don't know. but i'm believed to descendants of Vishwamitra 😀.

@TheDestroyer Where did you get that info?

Imagine each of we (the currently active four users Tezz, Pandya, KeshavSrinivasan & TheDestroyer) represent one Veda, then this room will really be a Vedic Patha Shala!

@Pandya Haha

@KeshavSrinivasan Andhra people are descendants of Vishwamitra.

@TheDestroyer I don't think all people who live in Andhra Pradesh are descendants of Vishwamitra. Now it may be the case that the ancient race known as the Andhras were descendants of Vishwamitra, but most people who live in Andhra Pradesh are not descendants of those Andhras.
@Pandya By the way, here is the full thing I recite during Abhivadhanam: "Bhargava Vitahavya Savedasa Trayarishaya, Vadhula Gotraha, Apastamba Sutraha, Yajushakhadhyayi, Keshava Sharmanam Aham Asmi Bhoh" That means "Descended from the three rishis Bhrigu, Vitahavya, and Savedasa, from Vadhula Gotra, following Apastamba Sutra, following a Shakha of the Yajur Veda, I am the Brahmana named Keshava, salutations."

6:53 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan hmm..but i can't find anything from my Gotra. May be i belong to Suryavamsi or Chandravamshi 😀😁, considering my ancestors as Kshatriya who were divided from Kakatiya Empire.

@TheDestroyer Why don't you post a question about Mudurilla Gotra?

@KeshavSrinivasan I don't think i find answers here. When i visit my village, i will ask the preist there.

@TheDestroyer Well, you have nothing to lose by posting a question, so it's worth a shot.

@TheDestroyer Are you Kshatriya?

@Pandya He's a Reddy:
Reddy (also transliterated as Raddi, Reddi, Reddiar, Reddappa, Reddy) is a caste that originated in India, predominantly settled in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. They are classified as a forward caste. The origin of the Reddy has been linked to the Rashtrakutas, although opinions vary. At one time they were a warrior caste and later became feudal overlords and peasant proprietors. Historically they have been the land-owning aristocracy of the villages. Traditionally, they were a diverse community of merchants and cultivators. Their prowess as rulers and warriors is well documented in Telugu history...

7:01 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan I didn't know it. Which is the equivalent varna (from 4) to it? /cc @TheDestroyer

@Pandya It's bit difficult to identify Varnas for South Indian castes. Kashtriya or Vaishya. Mostly Kshatriya.

@TheDestroyer ok. I'm remembering as Kshatriya now.

@Pandya Yes. We follow more Kshatriya varna customs.
This is what happenning in India. Most of the people don't know their ancestors or caste origins but still fight for their caste.

@TheDestroyer Btw, there is one Vidya discussed in Upanishads from Kshatriya:
4
Q: What kings passed on the Panchagni Vidya of the Upanishads?

Keshav SrinivasanAs I discuss in the this answer, by far the most popular school of Hindu philosophy is the Vedanta school, which bases its tenets on the doctrines laid out in the Brahma Sutras, a work by the sage Vyasa which summarizes and systematizes the philosophical teachings of the Upanishads. You can read ...

@Pandya By the way, did you know that Kshatriyas and Vaishyas have Gotra Pravaras? See my question here:
5
Q: Who is Mankila/Sankila, Gotra Rishi of the Vaishyas?

Keshav SrinivasanAs I discuss in this question, every Brahmana is a descendant of sages, which is why every Gotra or clan of Brahmins has an associated list of Pravaras, a list of the sages they're descended from. For instance, I am a Brahmin belonging to Vadhula Gotra, and my Pravaras are "Bhargava, Vaitahavya, ...

7:12 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan Yes, I think discussed earlier.
@KeshavSrinivasan yes, I've planned to read Shanti Parva which is earlier recommended by you to all

@Pandya Yeah, specifically the Narayaniya portion which starts with this chapter of the Shanti Parva: sacred-texts.com/hin/m12/m12c034.htm

I've some work. Good-bye!

@TheDestroyer @SreeCharan Sirivennela Sitaramasastri says Valmiki & Agastya were Telugu guys .. LOL :)

@KeshavSrinivasan I don't think knowing my Veda will be useful to me at this time...
@TheDestroyer so what does he say in that Video... ?...
@TheDestroyer lol...

@TheDestroyer Is that blog run by you?

@Tezz He says, "How many people know this? Adi Kavi Valmiki and Agastya Muni are Telugu people. History of Telugu is History of Bharathadesa".
@Tezz haha.
@Tezz Do you know Love story of Mandanamisra and Ubhaya Bharati 😀

@TheDestroyer oh... btw Valmiki Ashrama where Lav Kush lived lies in Nepal.. I don't know whether it is correct location or not...

@Tezz What do you think about Shankara Vijaya?

7:47 AM
@TheDestroyer No, is it in Shankara Digvijaya..?

@Tezz yeah.

@TheDestroyer I generally believe in Shankara Digvijaya as I find it logical... what do you think...?

(17 -24) From the reports of Brahmanas, Bharati (for that
was her name) happened to hear much about the attractive personality
and the vast learning of Viswarupa (known also as Mandana),
as Viswarupa also did, of that learned lady. In this way
each developed an attraction for the other, which becoming intensified,
they began to visualise< and converse with each other in
dream while suffering from intense pangs of separation in their
waking life. Thus, even without seeing each other, but merely
hearing accounts from others, they became engrossed in mutual

@TheDestroyer read the conversation between Adi Shankara and Mandana Mishra when they first met... it's very interesting...😀😀
@TheDestroyer haha... interesting...

@Tezz I believe it as true and interesting too. Moreover, it highlights Adi Shankara as Shiva many times.

7:51 AM
@TheDestroyer yes, also it is a very good source of knowledge... it deals with Practical Advaita...

(71-82) At the birth of the baby the planetary pOSItIOn was
as follows: The Lagna was fully aspecled by the benign planets
like Guru. Mars, Sun and Saturn were exalted and Guru was at
the zenith. It was an easy delivery, as if Parvathi were giving birth
to Skanda.
@Tezz Do you find anything unsual in this birth sign?
But Parvathi never get birth to Skanda from womb.

@TheDestroyer Birth is considered when Skandha first time took Prana Vayu...
He doesn't need to born from womb...

@Tezz Ok. I will eat and come.

@TheDestroyer Ok...
Guru in Lagna means he will be intelligent by nature...
Exalted means they give good results...

8:43 AM

@TheDestroyer I'm not sure whether that Mantra actually exists or not... maybe it is from some Aagams...

@Tezz He chants many times Rudra in that. I thought it was from Vedas.
Did you watch full song?

@TheDestroyer I didn't watch the whole song.. but I think I had already listened it... yes, it chants many times Rudra.. but I'm pretty sure it's not from Vedas....

@Tezz Ok.
BTW, that movie shows what Aghoras really are. Good movie to watch.

@Pandya i have a basic doubt

@sakthi oh! dinner time for me, will be back in this year or in next year (2017) !

@ bye

4:30 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan can you answer me
@KrishnShweta

Hello Sakthi!!

@sakthi Yeah, what's your question?

@KrishnShweta can i ask a basic doubt

@KrishnShweta @sakthi @KeshavSrinivasan Hello

@SreeCharan Hi

4:32 PM
@sakthi You can ask but I may not answer ;)
@SreeCharan Hello

@KeshavSrinivasan are you tamilnadu as i saw your qusetion of renaku of low caste women so only i am asking
@KrishnShweta ok

@sakthi Yeah, my family is from Tamil Nadu but I'm born and raised in America.

@SreeCharan all the scriptures in hinduism are sub divisons of veda OR are they are sepearate answer this one i am confused
@KeshavSrinivasan ok do you know about NAVAPASHANAM

@sakthi All the scriptures are not sub divisions of vedas. Puranas are conversations between various sages. Shaivagamas are conversation between Shiva and parvati and such. /cc @KeshavSrinivasan

@KrishnShweta what is vedanta

4:36 PM
@sakthi Are you talking about this temple:
Navapashanam temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Navagrahas, the nine planetary deities, located in Devipattinam, the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a Hindu pilgrimage centre located in the Bay of Bengal. As per Hindu legend, the nine mud images of the planetary deities, have been believed to have built by Rama, an avatar of Vishnu. The temple is a famous pilgrimage centre in the region where pilgrims perform rites for their forefathers. It is also a part of popular tourist circuit in the region along with the Ramanathaswamy Temple at Rameswaram and Adi Jagannatha Perumal Temple ...
@sakthi Vedanta is the school of philosophy based on the Upanishads. Nowadays almost all Hindus belong to the Vedanta school; see my question here:
8
Q: What percentage of Hindus belong to a sect that subscribes to the Vedanta school?

Keshav SrinivasanIndian schools of philosophy are traditionally divided into two categories, Astika and Nastika. Astika schools accept the authority of the Vedas as divinely revealed truth (shruti), whereas Nastika schools, like Buddhism, Jainism, and Charvaka, reject the authority of the Vedas. Generally membe...

@sakthi Hindu scripture comes in two forms, Shruti and Smriti. Shruti is that which is revealed to Rishis during meditation, whereas Smriti is that which is composed by humans. The Vedas are Shruti, but other scriptures like the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Puranas are Smriti.

@KeshavSrinivasan Thanks for answering (to sakthi). I was searching the same post ^.^

@KeshavSrinivasan NO i am asking Navapashanam - which is a medicine made of rare herbs and many idols were made of it, especially shiv lingas and lord murugas idol in palnai was made but it was stoled by little amount day by day and entire navapashanam was stolen and now only normal idol is there

@sakthi No, I'm not familiar with it. I am familiar with the Palani temple though. That's where Kartikeya went when he lost the foot race with Ganesha.

@KeshavSrinivasan He went First to some mountain (which is in karnataka now) and then to Srisaila where Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga is present.

4:48 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan one doubt in hinduism that is goddess kali accepts animal sacrifice but our scriptures shows path to non-violence there is a confusion for me

@sakthi Vedic animal sacrifice is allowed in Hinduism; see my answer here:
10
A: What do the Vedas say about animal sacrifice?

Keshav SrinivasanAnimal sacrifice, when performed properly according to Vedas, is an exception to the general rule about not harming living beings. Here is what Adi Shankaracharya says in his commentary on the Brahma Sutras: We proceed to refute the remark made by the pûrvapakshin that sacrificial works are ...

@sakthi Guiding someone towards the path of righteousness is not wrong. Other religions convert our people to others. But making them return to our religion is not wrong. Our acharyas did that.

@SreeCharan @KeshavSrinivasan with the answer we can understand that meat to be prasadam of god or in life substance put if we began to eat we will fall to desire of meat eating as my realtive and our family is offering animal sacrifice and eat meat but in weekly once my father brings meat as they are attracted to it because of that meat eaten in religious practices

4:56 PM
@sakthi To read the mantras in it, you need an initiation from a guru. If you want to know the meaning, you can read the commentaries on upanishads.

@SreeCharan thanks

@sakthi Well, in any case animal sacrifice to Kali is Tantric animal sacrifice, not Vedic animal sacrifice, so I would not recommend doing it.

@KeshavSrinivasan if we stop the weekly meat eat then our next generations will not eat meat as i dont eat by birth itself
@KeshavSrinivasan this is practiced only for devotion to god

@sakthi Why we need a guru is there is a separate tone for some mantras. We should not misspell the mantras in them.

@sakthi Yes, making your family vegetarian would certainly be a great thing.

4:58 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan Why? Those animals reach heaven.
@sakthi Read my answer it will clear you. It depends on work you do. If you do heavy physical work, you can eat Mamsa.

@KeshavSrinivasan but our centuries of practice will be destroyed if we stop it and become vegetarians

@TheDestroyer It is a well-established principle of Mimamsa that that which is prohibited by the Vedas can only be done under the narrow exceptions given in the Vedas. So Tantric animal sacrifice is still a sin.
@sakthi Well, you can still pass on the tradition of worshiping Kali in other ways.

@KeshavSrinivasan Then many things of Agamas will go wrong, if we consider VEdas.
Devi Bhagavatam clearly says those animals reach heaven.

@TheDestroyer Agamas are certainly important, but it's a well established principle of Mimamsa that Agamas cannot grant an exception to that which is prohibited by the Vedas.
@TheDestroyer And the Devi Bhagavatam is a Smriti, which most definitely cannot grant an exception to a Vedic prohibition.

@KeshavSrinivasan But Rama and Krishna ate meat. So, i feel it doesn't matter if Kshatriyas eat meat.

5:07 PM
@TheDestroyer The question of eating meat is a different story. I'm just saying that Tantric animal sacrifice is bad.

@KeshavSrinivasan How Vedas support eating meat like Rama and Krishna?

@TheDestroyer But yes, Kshatriyas are allowed to eat meat, but it's better not to.

@TheDestroyer They were kshatriyas and they fought battles. They need energy. A kshatriya who does a teacher job or some saatvik job does not need to eat meat.

@TheDestroyer The Vedas grant an exception to the rule of Ahimsa for Kshatriyas hunting.

@SreeCharan Yeah. I know. That's what my answer says so.
@KeshavSrinivasan Do you think Rama and Ksna ate meat only by hunting?

5:10 PM
@TheDestroyer The Vedas do not prohibit eating meat. They prohibit killing animals except under certain circumstances. In any case, Brahmanas are prohibited from eating meat but Kshatriyas are not.
@TheDestroyer There's no rule about how an animal is to be killed in order for a Kshatriya to eat its meat.

@KeshavSrinivasan I'm not sure if those cases conflict with Sacrifice to Devi.
@KeshavSrinivasan Yeah. Now, why can't Kshatriya eat meat by scarificing to Devi?

@TheDestroyer The issue with Tantric animal sacrifice has nothing to do with the meat consumed, it has to do with the killing of the animal.

Even it is in accordance with Bg 3.13
@KeshavSrinivasan Devi Bhagavatam says only sacrifice the animal to Devi if you want to eat meat.

@TheDestroyer I am not saying sacrificing animals to Kali is good but eating the meat consumed from it is bad. I am saying sacrificing animals to Kali is bad.
@TheDestroyer The Devi Bhagavatam cannot grant an exception to the Vedic rule of Ahimsa, only the Vedas can do that.

@KeshavSrinivasan That's what i'm saying. We should sacrifice them to Devi only if we want to eat mean.
@KeshavSrinivasan What are rules of Vedas which allowed Kshatriyas to eat meat?

5:15 PM
@TheDestroyer I'm saying the meat is entirely irrelevant. The issue is that we simply should not sacrifice to Kali.

@KeshavSrinivasan What rules of Vedas it conflicts?

@TheDestroyer There is no Vedic prohibition on eating meat at all, there is only a Vedic prohibition on killing animals.

@KeshavSrinivasan I want to see what Vedas exactly say about them.
@KeshavSrinivasan But Even Devi Bhagavatam says to sacrifice only if we want to eat meat not otherwise.
@KeshavSrinivasan But still Mamsa is one of the 5M's in Shaktism and Shaivism though it may have some allegorical meaning.

@TheDestroyer What are the 5 M's?

Panchamakara, also known as the Five Ms, is a Tantric term referring to the five substances used in a Tantric practice. madya (wine) māṃsa (meat) matsya (fish) mudrā (parched grain) maithuna (sexual intercourse) Taboo-breaking elements are only practiced literally by "left-hand path" tantrics (vāmācārins), whereas "right-hand path" tantrics (dakṣiṇācārins) oppose these.(Rawson, 1978). == Interpretations of the Panchamakaras == === Arthur Avalon (Sir John Woodroffe) === In the introduction of his translation of the Mahanirvana Tantra, Sir John Woodroffe, under the pseudonym Arthur Avalon...

5:21 PM
@TheDestroyer What I am saying is that regardless of whether you want to eat meat, yo should not engage in Tantric animal sacrifice.

@KeshavSrinivasan when eating meat in those cases is in accordance with Vedas, why shouldn't i do animal sacrifice to Kali? I'm not sure what Tantric animal scarifice you are talking. Tantra is just another name for Shakta Agamas but it became bad word.

@KeshavSrinivasan @TheDestroyer Is the vamacharam a reason that people are forbidden to use left hand?
6
Q: Why using left hand is forbidden?

Sree CharanThis question may seem silly. I want to know the reason why using a left hand during our daily life and in rituals. I have even seen some people who say not to accept anything with left hand. Some also say while you are wearing something new like a shirt or shoe, insert your right limb first. The...

@SreeCharan Vamachara is not bad but difficult. It has profound philosophy. Many Acharyas reject it because it is difficult and there are high chances you may fall prey to Sense organs.

@SreeCharan I have pack of Sir John woodroffe books but should start to read them to know more about vamachara.
Yeah. It doesn't mean that path is wrong. Maya has opposing dualities.

5:32 PM
Yeah. that path is not recommended by many acharyas.@TheDestroyer
@TheDestroyer You said there are many advaita acharyas in andhra. can I know names?

@SreeCharan All those people who come to Dharma Sandhehalu are Advaita Acharyas or Smrathas.
You know Chaganti.

@TheDestroyer @SreeCharan Seems like you both watch Dharmasandehaalu. I haven't watched one episode also :(

@TheDestroyer So you were saying about them? I was asking about sanyasis. My day starts with chaganti's pravachanam on radio.
@KrishnShweta Yes. When I get some doubt and before answering anything on the site, I search Dharmasandehalu.

@SreeCharan Most of the temple priests i know follow Advaita or Smarta. I don't know many Sanyasis. I know Swami Paripoornanada who is Advaitin. Ramanananda also follows the same but he is fraud.

@SreeCharan That's cool..

5:40 PM
@TheDestroyer Don't talk about ramanananda. He is neither aidvaitan nor anything. He always criticize everyone in his speeches. He is clearly a fraud. He has no manners.

@SreeCharan Do you know self declared Ramanananda Maharshi? He sells Shaktipeetam for Rs.1100. He is fraud. He says he had Iswara Darshanam. But the manner he takes debates is arrogant and provocative.
@SreeCharan Yes. I saw his discussion with Govindananda Swami about Sai baba.

ABN has done a sting operation on him. I don't call him a maharshi. He potraits himself as shiva, saibaba and living in kailasa. Those songs, I listen them to laugh out.

@SreeCharan i know that. You see his discussions with govindanada Swami. You will laugh .

@TheDestroyer I have watched them. three episodes. He abuses paripoornananda saraswati.

@SreeCharan No, it's because of the fact that the left hand is considered bad that those practices are called Vamachara.

5:48 PM
@SreeCharan Yeah. That clearly shows he had no Iswara Darshanam. The way he talks clearly says he is fraud. No true person who had Iswara Darshanam talks like that. He is big fraud. He even uses pipe for Shiva Linga Abhishekam. Such an ignorant/arrogant fool who doesn't know how to do Shiva Linga Abhishekam.

@KeshavSrinivasan @TheDestroyer Do you know I am a left handed?

@SreeCharan I think you updated it in your profile.

@TheDestroyer Yes.

@SreeCharan Oh, you are? I know that the Greeks and Romans considered left-handed people bad, in fact that is where the English word "sinister" comes from; sinistra means left hand. But I'm not sure whether Hinduism says anything about left-handed people.

@KeshavSrinivasan I updated in profile as "[I am dominated by my right hemisphere of brain.]." Only some can understand this.

5:52 PM
@SreeCharan Haha

@KeshavSrinivasan Do you celebrate New year?
@KeshavSrinivasan BTW, did you see Nan Kadavul movie?

@TheDestroyer I searched a lot for the source of lyrics but couldn't find it.

@SreeCharan What lyrics?

@TheDestroyer Yeah, I celebrate New Year.

@TheDestroyer Bhairava rudraya....

@TheDestroyer I also celebrate Christmas, not because I care about the birth of Jesus, but because in America it's become a secular holiday. I put up a Christmas tree and receive presents and all that.
