@KeshavSrinivasan yes, I know it.. however I generally believe all works attributed to Adi Shankara are written by him.. writing pattern and other thing can't exactly make text unauthentic.. Shankara started writing Bhasyas whrn he was 16 and he died in 32.. Means in 16 Years he could have written everything.. even persons writing style changes in 16 yrs. Even peoples philosophy may change etc...
And there is no 100% foolproof method to determine authenticity.... we can just say it's not likely to be Authentic.... it's of dubious authenticity etc....
And even if it is not work of Adi Shankara it may be work of latter Shankaracharyas...
@Pandya Ok thank you!.. I just read it... I had read similar type of intrepretations in other sites also.. In any case what I feel is that verse is very mysterious and can be intrepreted to mean in multiple ways... like six sets of 8 ..(it can be anything)..one place I read it's 48 type of human ability... in that Bhasya Shankara is defining all those set of 8... etc...

@TheDestroyer regarding your this comment:

@Tezz So, is that helped you?

You can add about Devi too. Then it will be a complete answer. — The Destroyer Dec 25 at 6:49
@TheDestroyer I'm not sure whether I can use Devi in that answer or not... as that question asks about Trimurti... however I can keep a link to my this answer..hinduism.stackexchange.com/questions/15717/… in that answer which works for Devi...
@Pandya yes, it helped me..😀😀
@TheDestroyer btw I have found some interesting quotes in Mahabharata which talks about Supremacy of Brahma.. so I'm thinking to update the existing answer also...

@Tezz Yes, even if it was not written by Adi Shankaracharya, the Shwetashwatara Upanishad Bhashya was definitely written by some Advaitin, so in that sense it's still a useful text for Advaitins.
@Tezz By the way, I just got Ranga Ramanuja's Sri Vaishnava commentaries on the Upanishads for Christmas. Here is what Ranga Ramanuja says about this verse:

2:11 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan when did Ranga Ramanuja lived..?

@KeshavSrinivasan "commentaries on the Upanishads for Christmas. ".. haha 😁😀

@Tezz Ranga Ramanuja lived in the 1600's.
@Tezz Haha yeah, being born and raised in America I celebrate Christmas, not because I care about the birth of Jesus, but just because it's like a secular holiday here. I put up a Christmas tree and get presents every year.

@KeshavSrinivasan omg... it completely differs with Shankara intrepretation.. now I finally found that one can intrepret anything...

@Tezz Haha yeah, interpretations of verses are often wildly different.

2:16 AM
I think only the sage Shwetashwatara knows what that exactly means.. haha...

@Tezz By the way, did you know that Jesus was not actually born on December 25? He was actually born on April 17, which happens to be my birthday, but then Christians moved it to December 25 because there was a Roman holiday on December 25 and they wanted to convert the Romans to Christianity.

@KeshavSrinivasan oh I didn't knew about that... where is it written that Jesus was born on April 17?..

@Tezz Christians frequently put their holidays on the same day as holidays of other religions so that they can tell people "You can convert to Christianity and still celebrate holidays on the same day." For instance, there was a Norse holiday that was celebrated on the night of October 31. So Christians created a holiday on November 1 called "All Hallows' Day", and the day before it was called "All Hallows' Eve". "Hallows' Eve" eventually became "Halloween."

@KeshavSrinivasan haha lol...

@Tezz Concerning Jesus being born on April 17, see this book:

2:22 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan someone came up with another new date: dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1093053/…

@Tezz Oh, I haven't heard of that. But yeah, one way or another he wasn't born on December 25. I don't know why Christians don't change it back now, since there's no more Romans to convert, haha

@KeshavSrinivasan haha lol.. btw on what basis is that book telling.. is it historical basis or astronomical basis..?

@Tezz It's both historical and astronomical. It uses lots of information from the Bible as clues.

21
Q: Why is Christmas on December 25th?

user1054Why was December 25th chosen as the day to celebrate Jesus' birth?

@Tezz Yeah, I'm familiar with the March 25 theory that the Catholic Church invented to justify the December 25 date, but most historians think that theory is wrong.

2:31 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok...

@Tezz By the way, I don't know of a single Christian in the entire world who actually follows the teachings of Jesus. Jesus said you should sell all your possessions and give the proceeds to the poor.

So they think Jesus was born in exactly 9 months...

@Tezz Haha yeah

@KeshavSrinivasan if one gives all his possessions to poor then he will be poor.. this means another person should give all his possessions to him.. and so on...

@Tezz Haha, well, Jesus was operating under the assumption that most people in the world would not be Christian.
@Tezz Jesus also said you should not charge interest on loans, and you should not charge a fee for exchanging currencies. And he said that if someone slaps you on one cheek, you should turn the other cheek so that they can slap you on the other cheek.

2:35 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan Haha...
@KeshavSrinivasan I think Mahatma Gandhi also told the last quote...

@Tezz Maybe Gandhi was quoting Jesus. Anyway, if I walked up to a Christian and slapped him on the cheek, I would probably be knocked unconscious.

@KeshavSrinivasan haha lol... you may try😀😀

@Tezz Jesus also said that if someone steals your coat, you should give him your cloak also. And that it's easier for a camel to walk through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go to Heaven.
@Tezz Jesus really hated rich people.
@Tezz And yet there are tons of rich Christians in the world.

@KeshavSrinivasan haha..
Are you quoting these things from Bible?...

@Tezz Yeah, the Bible.
@Tezz By the way, Jesus' statement that you should not charge interest on loans is what started Christians' hatred of Jews. Because Judaism allows you to charge interest on loans, whereas Christianity forbids it. So Jews acquired a reputation for being greedy.
@Tezz Hitler used Jews' reputation for being greedy as one of the justifications of the Holocaust.

2:42 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan btw Buddha also told:
Monks, even if bandits were to savagely sever you, limb by limb, with a double-handled saw, even then, whoever of you harbors ill will at heart would not be upholding my Teaching. Monks, even in such a situation you should train yourselves thus: 'Neither shall our minds be affected by this, nor for this matter shall we give vent to evil words, but we shall remain full of concern and pity, with a mind of love, and we shall not give in to hatred.
On the contrary, we shall live projecting thoughts of universal love to those very persons, making them as well as the whole world the object of our thoughts of universal love — thoughts that have grown great, exalted and measureless. We shall dwell radiating these thoughts which are void of hostility and ill will.' It is in this way, monks, that you should train yourselves."

@Tezz And yet nowadays Christians also charge interest on loans, so this hatred between Christians and Jews is really pointless.
@Tezz Yeah, Buddha put those words into action in the story of Angulimala.

@KeshavSrinivasan and I don't think there are any Buddhists who follow this... haha...

@Tezz Haha

@KeshavSrinivasan no, it's not in the story of Angulimala it's from the Parable of Saw... accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/mn/mn.021x.budd.html

@Tezz Yeah, I'm just saying that Buddha's behavior in the Angulimala story is consistent with that quote.

2:47 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan Are Hitler or any of his assistants related to Bhagvad Gita... I heard one theory which says one assistant of Hitler read Bhagvad Gita...

@Tezz Well, I don't know about Bhagavad Gita but Hitler's ideas were partly motivated by Hinduism. He read a book written by a woman names Madam Blavatsky who theorized that there was a race of humans called Aryans who came from outer space, and then there was another race of humans which was native to Earth and descended from apes.

@KeshavSrinivasan haha.. interesting...

@Tezz She theorized that Aryans were pure white, and in places like India they had mixed with the humans descended from apes, whereas in parts of Europe they were unmixed. She thought that the Vedas originally came from outer space with the Aryans.

@KeshavSrinivasan why did she thought that?...

@Tezz Do you mean why did she think the Vedas were from outer space?

2:54 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan yes...

@Tezz Haha, I don't think they carried the Gita.

@KeshavSrinivasan haha...

@Tezz Madam Blavatsky claimed that some of her ideas came from ancient Tibetan manuscripts, which she refused to show to anyone, and she claimed that other ideas came from visions in meditation.
@Tezz She combined Hinduism with her own ideas to create a new religion called Theosophy.

@KeshavSrinivasan oh... was she psychic?...

@Tezz Yes, she claimed to be.
@Tezz By the way, the high school my mom went to in Chennai was actually run by the Theosophical Society, an organization founded by Madam Blavatsky, haha

3:00 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan haha..
I haven't heard about Thesosophy upto now...

@Tezz In any case, Madam Blavatsky believed that the Aryans were physical, intellectually, and morally superior to humans descended from apes, and she thought that it was their divine destiny to take over the world one day and achieve a utopian society.

@KeshavSrinivasan hmm... interesting.. I think you previously told that you believe some humans descend from apes and some descend from Gods...

@Tezz Hitler was heavily influenced by Madam Blavatsky's ideas, and that was the main reason he wanted to round up the Jews, because Madam Blavatsky thought that Semitic people were descendants of apes.

@KeshavSrinivasan haha...

@Tezz Yeah, I think that is one possibility that would make sense of how Hindu scripture and the theory of evolution can both be true.
@Tezz And that's why Hitler used the Swastika symbol, because Madam Blavatsky said that it was a symbol of the Aryan race.

3:06 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan Yes...:
@KeshavSrinivasan which religion did Hitler followed..?

@Tezz Hitler was a Christian, but he believed in a lot of the ideas of Theosophy, and he was influenced by the German philosopher Nietsche.

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok...

@Tezz It's funny, Christianity comes from Judaism and yet Hitler hated Jews. He saw Jesus as a figure who was fighting for Aryan ideas against the Jews who were trying to spread inferior ideas.
@Tezz By the way, Nietsche was a German philosopher believed that there were some people in the world who were inherently stronger and more talented than others, and that those stronger people had an obligation to take over society and rule over the weak. That was another justification for Hitler's attempt to take over the world.

@KeshavSrinivasan oh I didn't knew about that philosophy of Nietsche...

@Tezz See here:
The Übermensch (German for "Overman, Superman, Superhuman, Hyperman, Hyperhuman"; German pronunciation: [ˈˀyːbɐmɛnʃ]) is a concept in the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche. In his 1883 book Thus Spoke Zarathustra (German: Also sprach Zarathustra), Nietzsche has his character Zarathustra posit the Übermensch as a goal for humanity to set for itself. It is a work of philosophical allegory, with a structural similarity to the Gathas of Zoroaster/Zarathustra. == In English == The first translation, published in 1896, of Thus Spoke Zarathustra into English was by Alexander Tille, who translat...
@Tezz Nietsche was a scary guy. He was an atheist, and he believed that because there is no God in Heaven, it is our obligation to create Heaven on Earth, by putting strong people in power and making them like gods.

3:19 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan haha.. lol...

3:56 AM
@Tezz Devi Bhagavatam says Trimurti were born from Adi parashakthi. I wanted you to add that.

4:34 AM
@Tezz By the way, for the first time I found a Purva Mimamsa work which is willing to admit that the mantras of the Vedas are in praise of the gods. See this excerpt from Krishnayajvan's Mimamsa Paribhasa:

@KeshavSrinivasan Copycats in India should know this. They simply imitate west without knowing anything.

@KeshavSrinivasan Also, it is believed that hitler sent someone to steal Vedas.

@TheDestroyer Oh, I haven't heard that.

@KeshavSrinivasan "He was actually born on April 17, which happens to be my birthday". You are jesus christ reincarnation. Messaiah of the West :P :P

4:44 AM
@TheDestroyer Haha

@KeshavSrinivasan Not sure i read somewhere. Also, This could be the reason why hitler met Subhash Chandra Bose when generally leaders were afraid to meet him, though Britain and Germany were enemies at that time.

@TheDestroyer I think the reason they met is that some Indian freedom fighters thought that if they sided with the Axis powers and Britain was defeated in World War II, then India could get independence.

@KeshavSrinivasan Yeah. But Hitler had good opinion on Hindus and it could be the reason too.

@TheDestroyer Yeah, Hitler definitely had a good opinion of Hinduism. Madam Blavatsky saw Hinduism as the closest to the original Aryan religion.

@KeshavSrinivasan That's really good thing. It also justifies we are descendants of Surya and Chandra. Mlecha race is descendant of Apes. Also, Jews and Hindus are most properous communities in US. So, i think Jews too had some divine origin.

5:00 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan hmm.. nice..
Is Varaha Purana in Sanskrit avaliable anywhere?..

@Tezz Why do you want Varaha purana? Also, check Sanskrit verses of chapter 140
6
Q: Is Badrinath actually in India?

Ramesh BhattaraiVarahaapuran (adhay 140:) Bhagwan Varaha says - I live in kokaamukh in the base of the mountain at the intersection of "kokaa river" and "kausiki river" and will be known as Badri This intersection is currently locted at Nepal in a place "Varahaachetra." For Badrikashram: Varaha...

@Swiftpushkar@KeshavSrinivasan@TheDestroyer@Tezz What is the source of the story that Hanuman is covered with saffron?

@SreeCharan I think it's folklore.
Sita Devi applies Sindhoor for longevity of Rama and Hanuman too applies it as he thought it would increase lifespan of Rama.

@TheDestroyer But when you go to many temples, He is covered with it. But not in temples administered by Sringeri peetham.

3
A: Why Sindoor is offered to Lord Hanuman?

Bhavin Chhatrola When Hanuman saw Sita applying Sindoor (Vermillion) in her hair, he asked the reason for the same. Sita replied that it was for long life and well being of Lord Rama, her husband. Hanuman, the biggest devotee of Rama thought if a pinch of sindoor in the hair can increase the longevity ...

5:25 AM
@TheDestroyer I was searching for that question under . Thanks
@TheDestroyer In the source of the answer to that question, last one is an interpolation. Hanuman didn't reject the pearl necklace.
Might be added by other poets in other ramayanas.

@SreeCharan I know VR doesn't say that. That was answered during early days of site.

6:19 AM
@TheDestroyer yes, I want to check Sanskrit verses of that chapter... also I need to see Sanskrit verses of Rudra Gita of Varaha Purana...

@SreeCharan - Good Afternoon , -Even Ganapati stones are covered in saffrom color die "Shendur" शेंदुर ..in marathi.so i think this is used as a protective coating & as saffron is deeply associated with hinduism the color.😊
@SreeCharan - by the way , very excellent question 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5 stars to you 👍

@Tezz ok.

unfortunately i am somewhat outside so won't be able to answer any questions.for 1-2, day's :) but stll i will try to find answer online.

8 hours later…
2:06 PM
@SreeCharan @sv. Do you know why Men (especially Telugu) wear "Molathadu"? Wiki page says to cast off evil.
Molathadu is a sacred waist thread used by Hindu men to ward off evil. It is mainly used in South India. It usually is in red or black. == References... ==

2:19 PM
@TheDestroyer Elders say that one shouldn't be naked anytime. To avoid that, we wear a thread around our waist. That is also a reason.

2:33 PM
@SreeCharan can you tell me the scriptures that you have readed

@Sakthi Hello. I have read less. But I listen to speeches about them.
@Sakthi Have you started reading what tezz and TheDestroyer told?

@SreeCharan i am asking as all you since i started to watch your speeches you are talking of puranas and others
@SreeCharan No Why ?

@sakthi Just asking. Do you mean messages, I started after I joined this site. I used to listen watch discourses.
I read translation of Bhagavatam, mahabharatam in telugu language. @sakthi
Valmiki Ramayana (in sanskrit with translation) also.

2:50 PM
@SreeCharan bhagavatam is very big or moderate

As you are from tamilnadu, you might be knowing alwars? Have you ever heard of their divya prabandhams?

@SreeCharan yes i heard of it
@SreeCharan can you tell me the meaning of this passage
@SreeCharan navo-navo bhavati jāyamāno.ahnāṃ keturuṣasāmetyaghram One of the Pair beholdeth all existing things; the other ordereth seasons and is born again.

@sakthi From where is it taken?

@SreeCharan from a site and this is in rig veda can you tell me the meaning?

@sakthi I didn't read any vedas. I don't know.

2:58 PM
@SreeCharan ok thanks

3:29 PM
@TheDestroyer Women also wore thread around threads in the past.

@SreeCharan ok.
Do we have any scriptural evidence for it?

3:46 PM
@TheDestroyer I was searching in VR.In the sundara kanda translation I have, I read, "స్థానం తప్పిన వస్త్రాలు మోలత్రాళ్ళు కలిగిన వారిని హనుమ చూసెను ". I was searching in valmikiramayan.net but didn't find it.
@Pandya Hello.

I've read somewhere the chronology of smritis like Manu Smriti, Yajnavalkya Smriti,...., Parasar Smriti according to it's suitability for different yugas. Do anyone have/heard such a idea about it? @Tezz @KeshavSrinivasan
@SreeCharan Hello.

No.
@Pandya There is a big list of scriptures you have read. How do you manage your time? If you don't mind, what is your age?

@SreeCharan Haha. Actually I had started to read scriptures about 1.25 year ago and have read mentioned scriptures. Though I'm not currently reading any scripture for about last 2 months.

4:06 PM
@Pandya Yes, that statement is made in the Parashara Smriti.
@Pandya See this answer:
4
A: Which smṛtis (dharma śāstras) are to be followed in Kali-yuga?

RickrossThe Dharma Shastra(the rule book of what to do and what not to do) to be followed in Kali Yuga is Parashara Smriti only & not those of Manu and others.This is as per the Parashara Smriti . I don't know if there are any other Scriptures which contradicts with this. Refer to Parashara Smriti : C...

@SreeCharan (kindly) talking about managing time, it was my extreme interest in knowing about "Param Satya" because of which my readings of Upanishads became possible!
@KeshavSrinivasan Yes, that's what I'm looking for. Thanks
@KeshavSrinivasan Does any other Scripture than Parashar Smriti declare such a thing?

@KeshavSrinivasan 15 pasurams completed in Tiruppavai.

4:24 PM
@SreeCharan Btw,
in Hinduism, Jun 24 at 4:37, by Pandya
I think if @KeshavSrinivasan try to answer this, he may got stack-error (memory full / words limit reached) from SE!!

@Pandya LOL.
True.

@Pandya Haha
@SreeCharan Oh, you don't recite the whole Thirupavai every day during Margazhi?

@KeshavSrinivasan Whole tiruppavai and pasuram of that day.

@Pandya No, I think only the Parashara Smriti says it.
@SreeCharan Oh, there's a Pasuram for each day? I didn't know that.

@KeshavSrinivasan ok.

4:32 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan Tomorrow 16th pasuram "Nayaganai" it is considered imp because. Andaal and others reach Krishna's home.
@KeshavSrinivasan Do you recite your acharya taniya daily? May i know Who your acharya is?
@KeshavSrinivasan Probability of getting answer to this quesstion is very low.

Q: What percentage of Hindus belong to a sect that subscribes to the Vedanta school?

Keshav SrinivasanIndian schools of philosophy are traditionally divided into two categories, Astika and Nastika. Astika schools accept the authority of the Vedas as divinely revealed truth (shruti), whereas Nastika schools, like Buddhism, Jainism, and Charvaka, reject the authority of the Vedas. Generally membe...

@KeshavSrinivasan Govindananada Swami from pampa Peetam says the same about Parashara Smriti.
@SreeCharan Chaganti garu said that?

4:48 PM
@TheDestroyer Yeah, I assume he got that information from the Parashara Smriti.

@KeshavSrinivasan Or may be we should follow it in Kali Yuga.

@TheDestroyer In the hard copy I have. I am not sure whether it is మొలవస్త్రం or మొలత్రాడు. I will check tomorrow in the morning.

@TheDestroyer Yeah, the Parashara Smriti recommends that it's the one the should be followed in the Kali Yuga.

@SreeCharan ok.

@TheDestroyer In any case the different Dharma Shastras don't differ too much from each other.

4:51 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan Some of the sentences in these Dharma Sastras resemble Sharia law. I feel these scriptures are interpolated heavily.
Or misinterpreted badly.

@SreeCharan No, I don't recite any Acharya Taniyan. Maybe I will after Samashrayanam. In any case my Dad's a Thenkalai whose family follows Vanamamalai Matham, and my Mom's a Vadakalai whose family follows Ahobilam Matham. So I follow the Vanamamalai Matham Jiyar.

@TheDestroyer Sharia law? that's funny.

@SreeCharan Yes. Some rules resemble, particularly about low caste people and women. Also, few sentences conflict each other. I couldn'tfind Parashara Smriti with commentaries in English but found Manusmriti and Yajnavalkya Smriti with commentaries.

@KeshavSrinivasan ok. I got samashrayanam 7 years ago when I don't know much about alwars and ramanuja. I came to know in these 3 years.

@SreeCharan Oh, it's great that you've done Samashrayanam. I'm curious, how old are you?

4:56 PM
@TheDestroyer Yes. Generally but I don't like when someone compares our scriptures with other religious texts.(Not pointing to you).

@TheDestroyer I think the real problem is that you're judging Dharma Shastras using Western standards of morality, when really you should be doing the opposite. You should be using Dharma Shastras to find out what right and wrong really is, and then you should use that knowledge to realize the depravity of modern society.

@SreeCharan Even i don't like, especially with a religion like Islam. But some rules look so. May be they are misinterpreted or interpolated. Aryasamaj person did a research and found that Manusmriti is interpolated heavily. I think his paper is available online.

@KeshavSrinivasan My parents performed upanayanam and samashrayanam at Jeeyar matt at once. I was 14 then. 21 now.

@KeshavSrinivasan Punishing low caste people without no reason comes under no morality whether east or west. karma obviously won't work like that. We can't even deny chance of interpolations.

@SreeCharan Wow, I'm amazed that you did Samashrayanam at the age of 14. I'm 25, and my family still won't let me do it, due to the pain of the hot metal brands. They want me to wait until I'm older.
@TheDestroyer It makes perfect sense under Karma. Those who have done bad actions in their past birth deserve to be born in a lower station in society.

5:05 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan That's nothing at all. I didn't feel pain. They don't heat that hot. My parents first denied because of the rules. But my sister convinced my parents. They (acharya's people) applied ghee to it instantly to lessen the pain.
@KeshavSrinivasan Those shankha and chakra marks remained for 5 years. Now they are gone.

@KeshavSrinivasan " It makes perfect sense under Karma. Those who have done bad actions in their past birth deserve to be born in a lower station in society." This is fine per karma. But not allowing them to temples is bad. Hinduism is only suffering from this. This act makes them to go other faiths. There is no cause without any reason. Perfect Dharma won't decline at all. But with time due to Maya and ignorance of people, Dharma will be corrupted and corrupted Dharma will decline.

@TheDestroyer Not allowing people to temples is bad. Due to this, some hundred low caste people decided to convert their religion. This was a news some months ago.

@SreeCharan Yes. Many conversions are happening. Now, i think their number reduced to certain extent after Modi Government.
@SreeCharan Late CM YSR converted many people to Christianity and he died by hitting helicopter to Rudrakonda of Seshachalam Hills. Lord Venkateswara don't spare anyone.

@TheDestroyer So you say after Modi came, conversions decreased, is modi influencing other religions?

@SreeCharan Not like that. Illegal conversions. He cut funds of Christian Missionaries from US and Islamic funds from Saudi. Read :Breaking India" book by Rajiv Malhotra. he explains clearly in that. Modi also banned NGOs.

5:17 PM
@TheDestroyer The issue is not Dharma being corrupted. The issue is with men whose hearts have been corrupted not being willing to follow Dharma. The influence of Western society has led people astray.

@KeshavSrinivasan For suppose if i interpolate a scripture and pass the same to my students, they feel that i passed the genuine scripture. Time only can these kind of truths.

@TheDestroyer Another book. I cannot compete with people of this room in reading books. :D

@SreeCharan NGOs are dangerous in India. They shed "crocodile tears" for Dalits.
Recently, there was a news.

@TheDestroyer By default we should assume a scriptural verse is authentic unless we have good reason to doubt it. That's a well-established principle of Mimamsa. And the fact that something conflicts with your own personal beliefs about morality is not a good reason at all. Morality is not something that can be gleamed from sensory evidence or inference, it can only be gleamed from Sabda Pramana.

5:24 PM
That's a big number. Good NGo's are also getting a bad name due to fake NGOs'

@SreeCharan Congress rule made so much damage to India and Hinduism.
@SreeCharan Most of the foreign based NGOs are fake.

@SreeCharan Btw, even I heard the same thing as Destroyer said about Modi. (converting to different religions is decreased under Modi's Govt.)

@KeshavSrinivasan I think Vedas mostly talk about Vyavaharika Satyam and Paramarthika Satyam not Pratibhasika Satyam. I think smriti talks about Pratibhasika Satyam.
Am i right?
@Tezz ^^

@KeshavSrinivasan Actually the procedure of reciting tiruppavai is "first tiruppalliyechhi by tondaradippodi alwar then whole tiruppavai and pasuram of that day." But I get lazy sometimes and skip tiruppalliyechhi and it is some what hard.
@KrishnShweta It is due to RSS not modi(a bit). Other pseudo-secular parties are not able to digest this.

@TheDestroyer OMG!! what all these different "satyas" are?

5:33 PM
@KrishnShweta In Advaita, they are different realities. Aham Brahmasmi or Sivoham and these kind of statements are in Paramathika Satyam not in Prathibhasika Satyam. I mean i am not shiva now but in reality i'm shiva.

@TheDestroyer First of all, the notion of different levels of truth is only present in Advaita; in Visistadvaita we believe that the world is fully real. But in any case, statements about Dharma found in Smriti are the same kind of truth as statements about Dharma found in Shruti. I suggest you read Adhyaya 1 Pada 3 of the Purva Mimamsa Sutras.

7
A: What is the Position of Maya(illusion) as per Advaita doctrine? (Or According to Advaita is Maya superior to brahman?)

TezzMaya can never be supreme as it operates only in Vyavaharik level. According to Advaita there are three levels of reality: 1) Paramarthika Satyam 2) Vyavaharik Satyam 3) Pratibhasik Satyam Paramarthika Satyam: This is the absolute reality. In this level neither Ishwara nor Maya exists...

@SreeCharan whatever :P (I don't watch news ^.^ but I ask my father or Babai)
@TheDestroyer OK.

@KeshavSrinivasan Yeah. But only when we apply properly, we can understand Advaita Properly, else people think it as illogical. When people can see there is chair, but in reality there is no chair. People should know these realities.

@SreeCharan Oh, I thought they were permanent. You don't even have any scars or impressions from it? I think my grandmother's marks are still visible, and she did Samashrayanam many decades ago.
@TheDestroyer For the record I understand this notion of levels of reality and I still find Advaita illogical, haha

5:39 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan haha. You can boost my knowledge about Visistadvaita and we can take debate thereafter. But still i can defend Advaita now. :P

@SreeCharan Oh, and do you recite a hymn of praise of Manavala Mamunigal at the end of it? The Vadakalai side of my family recites a hymn of praise of Vedanta Desikan at the end of it.

@KeshavSrinivasan I don't have scars. But my mother said my grandfather had scars. It depends on heat they apply. I think they heated less because we were children at that time. Some times nature of skin also plays part. I see some signs but not clearly visible.

@SreeCharan Oh ok

@KeshavSrinivasan Is there any ritual like that which put Shiva namam on Arms.

@KeshavSrinivasan In the beginning, acharya parampara is recited and also "Srisailesa dayapatram" recited. I don't know in the end.

5:44 PM
@SreeCharan By the way, do you know what makes Srisailesha Dayapatram so important? That is a Taniyan that Vishnu himself composed about Manavala Mamunigal.

@SreeCharan @KeshavSrinivasan Who is Srisailesha? vishnu or Shiva?
Because Srisailam is same as tirumala. It is also called as Sri Parvata.

@TheDestroyer Vishnu Sri=tiru saila=mala in tamil.

@SreeCharan But legend says Parvata muni did a tapasya in that place and Parameswara (Shiva) blessed him.

@TheDestroyer I'm not sure if there are any Shaivite sects that believe in Sharanagati.

@SreeCharan you are lucky to have those scars on Arms. I want trisulam or tripundra.

5:48 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan Under which circumstances did tenkali and vadakalai sub-sect originate?
@TheDestroyer They are not scars. But I don't know a ritual about having trisulam and tripundra on arms. But you can apply vibhuti and there are mantras also while applying vibhuti.

@SreeCharan Yeah. But Vibhuti goes off after sometime. I want permanently. I thought to apply Tattoo but i felt Tattoo was bad idea.

@TheDestroyer Tattoo is a very bad idea. There are benzene and other chemicals used in tattoo ink(harmful). One's who have tattoo can't donate blood for 1 year again.

@KeshavSrinivasan what Agamas are followed for construction of temples of Hanuman, Ganesha?
@SreeCharan Yeah. That's the reason i didn't put Tripundra Tattoo.
@KeshavSrinivasan Do vaishnava Agamas Talk about Krishna or rama? For Prana Pratishta of Krishna and rama, are mantras of Vishnu recited for Rama and Krishna?

6:13 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan Do you know any curse on subhadra that she will be wife of Krishna?

@SreeCharan PBA Swami suggests that the Sri Sailesha in this verse refers to both Sugriva and the Sri Vaishnava Acharya Thiruvaimozhi Pillai: acharya.org/ar/armmpba.html

There is a mangalasasanam attributed to purijagannath which says "Nilachala nivasaya nityaya paramatmane Subhadraprananathaya jagannathaya mangalam"@KeshavSrinivasan

@SreeCharan It's not known what caused the Thenkalai-Vadakalai split or who was responsible. But what ultimately led to the split was the philosophical differences between the ideas of Vedanta Desikan on the one hand, and Pillai Lokacharya and Manavala Mamunigal on the other hand.
@SreeCharan The funny thing is that Vedanta Desikan and Pillai Lokacharya lived during the same time, and they had no disagreements or arguments in their lifetime. In fact Vedanta Desikan even composed a poem in praise of Pillai Lokacharya.
@SreeCharan The split happened hundreds of years after the time of Vedanta Desikan and Pillai Lokacharya. I don't think either of them would have liked the Sri Vaishnava sect to split in two.

@KeshavSrinivasan Yes.

@SreeCharan And now the conflict has become really silly, like there are lawsuits over what Namam should be painted on temple elephants. I don't think the elephant cares, haha

6:21 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan But now in some temples, especially in tirumala there will always be some controversy over namam of tenkali and vadakalai.

@TheDestroyer You should consider receiving initiation into the Shaiva Agamas. It may be hard finding a Shaiva Siddhanta Acharya though.
@TheDestroyer Hanuman temples are generally built by Vaishnavas, and Ganesha temples are built by Shaivites. So Hanuman temples would be built according to Pancharatra Agamas, and Ganesha temples would be built according to Shaiva Agamas. There are such things as Ganapatya Agamas, but Ganapatyas are very few in number these days, so most Ganesha temples are not constructed according to Ganapatya Agamas.

@KeshavSrinivasan AFAIK there are many advaita acharyas but no shaiva acharyas. There might a ritual of initiation in shaivism also.

@SreeCharan Yes. There are many Advaita Acharyas or Smarthas in South especially in Andhra.

@SreeCharan There are Shaiva Siddhanta Acharyas out there, it's just that that the Shaiva Siddhanta sect is much smaller than either the Smartha sect or the Sri Vaishnava sect.

@KeshavSrinivasan intiation into Agamas?

6:29 PM
@TheDestroyer Yeah, just like Samashrayanam (the hot metal brands thing) is the initiation ritual into the Pancharatra Agamas, and Upanayana (wearing of the sacred thread) is the initiation ritual into the Vedas, there is a corresponding initiation ritual for the Shaiva Agamas.

@KeshavSrinivasan Is there any Advaita intiation? I prefer Advaita than Shaivite or Vaishnava.

@TheDestroyer Well, you can certainly join an Advaita Ashram. But Diksha or initiation rituals are for mantras. So Upanayana is initiation for the mantras of the Vedas, Samashrayaham is initiation for the mantras of the Pancharatra Agamas, etc.

@KeshavSrinivasan You said your thoughts lean towards vadakalai, so are you going to take initiation from a vadakalai acharya like your mother?

@SreeCharan No, I think I'm going to follow my family traditions and do Samashrayanam with the Vanamamalai Matham Jiyar.

6:52 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan I just came to know that vedantacharya mentioned in hayagriva stotram is none other than vedanta desika.
Besides the eight mutts established by Sri manavala mahamuni, there are other mutts also mukthinath is one such example.
@KeshavSrinivasan Good afternoon to you. Bye.
