I reccomend y'all checkout the bot at

 SOBotics

This room is dedicated to moderating content on Stack Overflow...
it's super realistic and fun chatbot
(@Hatman)

Wow... you used y'all correctly

@HWalters What's so "wow"?
I'm actually having good context-based chat with this bot.
I say something random, it says something random.
I say it's [sic] hyperintelligent, it says not so, I ask why, it says "because it's not clever"

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC It's a small thing, but I've seen people who imitate Southern US dialects just trade "you" for "y'all" not realizing that it's only plural

What??

3 mins ago, 2 minutes total – 8 messages, 2 users, 0 stars

Bookmarked 8 secs ago by noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC

@HWalters I don't imitate it, I'm not from the south, I don't use it in real life, I use it here because it's easier to type and more grammatical :P

@HWalters I've never seen that
Also, where is the line for "southern US"? Does Colorado count?

12:41 AM
Linguistically? No idea

I'm in NC

@DJMcMayhem the south is largely determined by the civil war, so no, Colorado doesn't count.
Like, if I hear "the south", I basically hear all of the states in the south east

That bot is scary af

@DJMcMayhem you also need the accent to be a southerner, you ain't got that there twang in yer voice

12:53 AM
I use ain't, yeah, but not y'all
NC, born in Auburn

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ how duh ya know I ain't got that there twang in muh voice? Y'ain't hurd it

I guess you have have, lol

'member, i played teh portalz with ya
@DJMcMayhem lol mobile edit is a PITA amirite

Yeah definitely

1:00 AM
I found out yesterday that it turns out I speak a North Midland American English dialect, despite living in Texas.

I only lived in alabama for three years
@Doorknob How's it in Texas? As we think it is, or no?

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC You mean the usage of "y'all"? A lot of people do, although I still haven't picked it up.

@Doorknob "y'doorknobs"
@Doorknob how'd you find out?

What's "Midland"? Sounds like something in the UK.

@Doorknob No, I mean just "guns, hot, and violence", like overall

1:02 AM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ reddit shower thoughts?

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Reading a bunch of Wikipedia articles. :P I figured I had something from Missouri, Connecticut, Chicago, or Houston, since that's where I've lived.

@feersum it's where cats in striped hats live

Watching a one-year old golden retriever chase her tail, and then actually catch it and play tug-of-war with her own tail is one of the most adorable and hilarious things I've ever seen, lol

@Doorknob oh, interesting. do you have family in the military?

1:03 AM
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC Uh, yes to the second part definitely :P, not so much the others...

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ (geobits is in the military, if you want to ask him)

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ No

Hey, when it's dark, I see grey with a bunch of quickly changing colored pixels, like on a static TV, but with more grey. Anyone else see this?
> @Hatman TNB is a locally established technical jargon referring to a common hash used to initiate person to person contact

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC he's retired iirc, and I know that

ok, I know that too

1:06 AM
also, you should probably not pass out personal info without explicit permission

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Oops.

Idk, he's mentioned it before so I don't think he minds

yeah, but just in case
it's best not to talk about other people when they aren't here, unless it's something explicitly positive about them
@DJMcMayhem y'know what's better? 1 year old newfie doing that

Oh man, Newfies are so cute

1:08 AM
And gigantic

After talking to the hatman bot, everybody seems like a bot

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC That just looks like 70 letters to me

@HWalters ಠ_ಠ

:( the ctrl button doesn't work in vim-touch on my phone anymore. No more phone-golfing for me...

1:10 AM
@DJMcMayhem D: use TIO?

I suppose I could simulate it with vimscript, like I did with the alt button
@Downgoat yeah, but I can't enter the unprintables

oh
@Dennis enter unprintable characters in TIO
wait I can add that to my client :D

@DJMcMayhem Then take it to the repair shop.
(I copied it from @Hatman)
(I'm not a bot, nobody freak out)
(Manure has hit the cooling device)

No, you're just plagiarizing a bot

Can hatman sue?

1:13 AM
And now I have to read a bunch of complicated ethics manuals to see how I feel about it

@Downgoat pls make OS X application client for TIO

I feel like "GIMME THE DAMN SOURCE CODE NOW, YOU MAD SCIENTIST", but it's not anywhere

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC I can see that going over very well. "My phone's broken!" 'what's wrong with it?' "I can't use an obscure vim feature!" 'wtf is vim?' "a nerdy text editor I code-golf in" 'wtf is code-golf?' "a nerdy game I play where you write short code for fun" 'OK, cool but what's wrong with your phone?'
11

@DJMcMayhem XD
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ nativifier can do that to any website, it's on npm
@DJMcMayhem Actually do that and see what happens.
It's like giving edge cases to humans

Nah, nothing's wrong with the phone, it's probably the app

1:17 AM
@DJMcMayhem I know, but just go there and see what happens

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ :O will do using election

@Downgoat nativifier does that, using electron. It's CLI, very easy to use
@DJMcMayhem Or like do some obscure OS mess-up trick that you can undo

^ Okay this is better idea. I'll just nativifier it and put a pre-built version on website

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC ehh needs moar goat
@Downgoat lol

@Downgoat URL for your TIO client? It's also cross-platform

1:18 AM
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC this seems amazing, thank you for revealing this to me
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC vihan.org/p/tio

Python really needs a ''.join([str(i) for i in lst]) builtin function

@Downgoat !! I should do this to TNB

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC I've got better things to do with my time. Like... Code-golf?

it's really annoying to have to type ''.join, let alone remembering you have integers as elements

this is why you don't use python

1:20 AM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ ?
@DJMcMayhem Do it, I'll be hilarious
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Make one :P. C++ needs a to_int function

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC read the context message
> builtin

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC I think C++ has one

it's really not hard to hack one if you're using it a lot, but not worth it for 1 use

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ You can put it in site.py so it's there globally, across all python instances

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC (int)foo

1:21 AM
@DJMcMayhem that gets the ascii code for chars

No, it casts a char to an int, which is the same thing

@DJMcMayhem Yes, but I need int conversion
'1' -> 1

A char is just an int with a smaller range that gets treated slightly differently

I know, I want '1' to go to int 1

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC What type? char*, char or std::string?
or something else I suppose

1:22 AM
if it isn't the latter you're doing something wrong >_>

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC yeah, but that's not the point as much as the point is "it's useful and not that hard to implement, and IMO is a viable candidate for builtin-ship"

@DJMcMayhem char, and not char*

Oh, that's super easy

@DJMcMayhem it is

int i = c - '0';

1:26 AM
That's what I did
@ConorO'Brien int -> array of digits

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC C++ has a to_int function

@HWalters ಠₒಠ
ಠₒಠ

sounds like fake news but it's not.
[1] Radiolab Podcast

tfw your code compiles and you really don't know how to use the language
3

Lol. Which language?

That's how I made an entire android app

1:40 AM
C++

With a layout, and a server to go along with it

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC that's impressive

Also my entire C++ing exp.
@ConorO'Brien 1. I know JavaScript 2. The online course said "Java exp. required" 3. I had never coded in Java 3. I did the course. 4. Apparently I know Java now, but last week I tried doing it again and failed miserably

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC RIP

"5 sir"

1:42 AM
@ConorO'Brien I didn't do anything with arrays, hello world, or output during all that time

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC what kind of course is that?!

@ConorO'Brien A course on android development, udacity
I mean I knew Javascript ≠ Java

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC what app did you develop?

@ConorO'Brien Not published, but it had a UI, requested the web, and everything, but it's now just an empty UI shell :P

1:44 AM
I have PUBLISHED chrome extensions from my w3schools exp. (only recently did I use mdn)
One that http://tnb.x -> TNB
tnb.x <- I click on that or type it into the omnibox (including without http://) it goes to tnb
@ConorO'Brien

oh, cool

this took too long

It looks great
@ConorO'Brien 1. I did JS for a month or so, googling stuff and pasting it into the chrome console 2. Two years later, I want to make a chrome extension. I know JS surprisingly well, I don't google absolutely everything, one week later out comes a published chrome extension

@Downgoat I feel like I've seen this before
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC nice!

JS is so incredibly... easy to learn
the .x thing is not the published one (it has no UI right now, it's like a JS dictionary in the file), the published one adds a copy image url button to google images - much simpler @ConorO'Brien

1:48 AM
true that on both

@ConorO'Brien Second one is on chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/sigma/…
if you want to install it (not trying to self-promote)
Wait, how did I get 9 users!?

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC <C-a>
(not sure if you'll get the vim reference)

@DJMcMayhem nope

You now have 10 users

...is that sarcasm? I honestly/frankly cannot tell
@DJMcMayhem

1:51 AM
No, it's not. I just installed it.

\o/!!
@DJMcMayhem Are you interested in:
7 mins ago, by noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC
http://tnb.x <- I click on that or type it into the omnibox (including without http://) it goes to tnb

Not really. TNB is already bookmarked on every single device I own

CTRL-A increments a number

oh
@DJMcMayhem What if I told you you could do >1000 bookmarks if each bookmark had three letters, and you can add new bookmarks
It's a dictionary in a JS file right now

1:54 AM
Most of my bookmarks have 0 letters because I recognize them by the icons

I know, but what about that one SO question you need to get to later but will never ever use again in three hours, or that one thing you're too lazy to add?

CMC: Share a screenshot of the bookmarks on your most frequently used browser

> Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, often referred to as just Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, is an absurdist, existentialist tragicomedy...
wat

I have never used them since like 2 years ago
@DJMcMayhem That's apparently a hard sell for an extension

what are the differences between: mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=SN754410 and which one do I buy? They have the same datasheet and price

1:56 AM
Mine ^

@Maltysen The one with the most resistors /s

@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ +1 for mothereff.in

Creating .x bookmarks is easier, but apparently that isn't the case because demand-side economics
If the buyers don't think it's true, it's false
@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ What regex?

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC A fragment of a working regex
(I believe)

2:00 AM
@DJMcMayhem CMC: Share a screenshot of your extensions bar
@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ nods

@DJMcMayhem Lol, that's sarcasm so much that when people actually say it unsarcastically, I feel like it's sarcastic

Really? I don't see how

2:01 AM

@DJMcMayhem I have a history with not detecting sarcasm online

My favorite of those is by far linkclump. I consider it essential

I don't use like half of the extensions
I'm going to remove them now
PSA: SnappySnippet let's you snip any piece of html into a portable (ie put it in a codepen) thing with all the styles intact
Steal CSS, it's by far the most expensive programming language per byte

2:05 AM
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC not java?

@DJMcMayhem I consider The Great Suspender to be the best because I have 135 tabs open on my crappy computer only because of it; suspends your unused tabs

I can't imagine needing more then a dozen.

Try it online! desktop apps for: Mac and Windows

@ConorO'Brien Java is cheap because of it's verbosity. CSS is expensive because effective CSS takes hours of trial-and-error

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC not unary?

2:05 AM
@DJMcMayhem I don't really use half of them

Once they start getting squished, I'll close most of them or split windows or both

@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ not a lang

@Downgoat TIO desktop apps...?

lemme know if windows release borks

2:06 AM
@Downgoat So basically Try it offline!?

trying it out

@ConorO'Brien like GUI app

@DJMcMayhem I mean it just gets me less ram usage
@Downgoat yay I helped someone

@Downgoat I'd get something that was command line, like tio <language> args

2:06 AM
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC It's TC and an interpreter exists so it's a lang

@Downgoat windows protected me because it thinks that the .exe is harmful

._.
try slap windows

@Downgoat Sorry, but I'll pass on running a random .exe that I don't know anything about

@Downgoat :3

@Downgoat I did but I got glass shards on my hand

2:08 AM
Question: how to avoid windows thinking app is evil?
Do I need to like sign it?

probably?

@Downgoat Sign it "Downgoat Products, Inc"

@DJMcMayhem How do you boot your machine then?

@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ I mean not a widely used one, non-esoterically

By pressing the power button?

2:08 AM
Smart Screen doesn't warn about singing, that's what a part of UAC is for. Smart Screen warns about downloaded apps with no meta info.
Actually signing an app is only possible for companies and costs quite bit.

well they are a bunch of other files in the generated dir:
LICENSE                           content_resources_200_percent.pak ffmpeg.dll                        libGLESv2.dll                     node.dll                          ui_resources_200_percent.pak
LICENSES.chromium.html            content_shell.pak                 icudtl.dat                        locales                           resources                         version
Try it online.exe                 d3dcompiler_47.dll                libEGL.dll                        natives_blob.bin                  snapshot_blob.bin                 xinput1_3.dll

The best course of action is to turn off SS on Windows, because it's useless.

Idk if I should distribute the dlls too
windows is weird
@mınxomaτ s/SS on//

@mınxomaτ how do I do that?

@mınxomaτ Ha, trying to get malware on us? /s

2:11 AM
CMC: Share a screenshot of your taskbar

@ConorO'Brien Open start, type "smart screen settings" and open that.

windows 8 here

So?

Does a status bar count?

2:11 AM
Sure

@mınxomaτ where do I type it into start?

the search?

@ConorO'Brien Press the windows key and just start typing.

2:12 AM
@ConorO'Brien brb doing

@mınxomaτ note to self: comment was obnoxious

@mınxomaτ oh TIL. basically windows key + S

You don't need S though.

@ConorO'Brien What's the lambda? And that's the square with yellow and blue?

@DJMcMayhem my console emulator; TI-CONNECT

2:14 AM

@Downgoat

Goddammit

@Downgoat You need to make an installer, where it puts the dlls in a program files (x86) directory

Goddammit
Windows is the worst

And then adds a shortcut to the desktop

2:15 AM
wouldn't it be great if we got rid of all OS's then invented a perfect OS

there are a bunch of installer makers

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC Oh please no

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC No you don't. You just need to ship the DLL.

@ConorO'Brien its called macOS:P

I hate installers that do that

2:15 AM
@ConorO'Brien It's called Linux + Mac OS X
@mınxomaτ huh?
@DJMcMayhem most users are like "durh how do I get to the app??"

What huh?

@mınxomaτ What does shipping the dll mean?

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC two OS's != one OS

???

The goat just needs to make a ZIP of all the files.

@Downgoat mac is basically an inferior linux

@mınxomaτ I can see you saying that at at a petting zoo.

@mınxomaτ ok doing

Also macOS stores and needs all these files (in a different format), too. Each .app is just a folder containing all of it.

2:18 AM
But who wants dll files in their downloads folder
.app is a really nice format for devs and users

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC Well, I suppose you can just extract the thing into a directory.

It's literally a unix terminal app with the resources all bundled up in a pseudofolder, which is actually a folder you can cd into

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC It's literally just a folder. There's nothing special about it.
Same as Goat4Windows.zip -> right click -> extract to Goat4Windows.

@mınxomaτ How you know so much about Mac OS X? Ninja'd edit.

@mınxomaτ any recommendation on terminal for linux? I rather like the one you suggested for windows

2:19 AM
@NathanMerrill HyperTerm
(I haven't tried anything else other than iTerm and Terminal.app)

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC See if you can spot it: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/24494957#24494957
@NathanMerrill What's wrong with Terminal? Do you need tabs?

what terminal does not support tabs
@mınxomaτ Those monitors look old, but I bet they're real nice
Because otherwise you wouldn't be using them

They work. If they die, I have dozens more, because they are cheap. After all that's my lab, not my flat.

Cheap monitors look old

They are old.

2:23 AM
How many do you got in your flat? (southern english helps me save typing)

a couple of things I liked about the other one you suggested (I don't remember the name): I like the ability to assign a different hotkey to different consoles. I also was able to set the hotkey for anything/everything
so, for example, I could set it up so that Ctrl-Shift-G would auto-ssh into my server

Oh tasks.
No idea. iTerm2 is nice, but I don't think it has custom tasks.

@mınxomaτ That's a blast from the past, that chat transcript right there
It's funny too

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC my eyes are bleeding

@ConorO'Brien Yep.

2:32 AM
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC wrong:

How much rep do you need? I can never remember since I stopped unlocking new privileges

2k apparently
10k once we get our design who knows when

How much to view the upvote/downvote breakdown on a post before and after site design?

1 when you use the plugin. :P

I always thought it was stupid to have that rep-restricted

2:45 AM
@Sherlock9 750/1000

Oh good. I'm safe :D

@ConorO'Brien IIRC it's mostly to avoid another db call per view. That's why they don't really care if you get around it, as long as not everyone is.

Do you have a link to the breakdown of SE privileges?

@Geobits ahhh

@Sherlock9 help center > privileges

2:47 AM
Thanks

@Sherlock9 I just use the ones on SO to see "graduated" levels: stackoverflow.com/help/privileges

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC regarding your sandbox comment, 1 year is nothing compared to how long some of my stuff has been in there.

@Geobits fetching one int instead of two? Surely that must be negligible

Well, I've gotten all of the privileges at 5k here. Just need to get to 25k to keep them all
And the only ones I'm really interested in keeping are moderator tools (to view deleted posts) and maybe site analytics. 10k and 25k, here I come.

Site analytics aren't that big of a deal to me. The trusted user ones are much more important imo

2:54 AM
@DJMcMayhem I think it's because post score is in the post table, and votes are in another.
I read this on meta somewhere, but I'll probably never find it again.

You can find it on my question
8
Q: Why are users with less than 1000 rep unable to see vote-counts?

DJMcMayhemI know that once a user passes 1000 reputation (or 750 in a smaller site), they gain the ability to see vote-counts, rather than vote total (upvotes - downvotes). However, I don't really understand what purpose this serves. I know that some activities are not given to a new user to prevent spam/a...

Well then :P

@DJMcMayhem Hm. But I don't often delete posts outright. Kind of afraid of starting a fight

I've voted to delete like 150 iirc, lol
176

And where do you view that data?
