@ParanoidPanda try running sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade and then sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

you can also try reinstalling all the packages you see in the install list

@Zacharee1: dist-upgrade does all of what upgrade does plus a little more so I wouldn't think there would be a need to run them both. I have now reinstalled all the packages, let's hope that that does the trick.

If you run setxkbmap -option "caps:shift" does the caps lock key act like a shift key? (use a plain setxkbmap -option to undo it).

@Zacharee1 well I logged out and logged back in, no difference.

That shouldn't be necessary however.

you boot from windows into BIOS to change it

so there's some bios setting blocking you from disabling secure boot
