3:22 PM
Use a real one then

user136984
There's nobody around here is there who knows anything about patching and making debdiffs is there? @ThomasWard help me last time, are you around?

user136984
Because so far I think I patched everything fine but debuild -S is failing.

user136984
This is the error I'm getting:

user136984
 fakeroot debian/rules clean
debian/rules:4: /usr/share/cdbs/1/rules/autoreconf.mk: No such file or directory
debian/rules:5: /usr/share/cdbs/1/rules/buildcore.mk: No such file or directory

debian/rules:9: /usr/share/gnome-pkg-tools/1/rules/uploaders.mk: No such file or directory

@ParanoidPanda i have not needed to make my own deb yet ;)

user136984
3:29 PM
I'll have a break from this for a while then...

user136984
Until somebody can come on who can help me.

user136984
But Debian packaging really has never worked out when I've been trying it so... :D

@ParanoidPanda As you know I'm always ready to help ... but this time unfortunately I have no idea ... I never built any own .deb ... so sorry my friend ! :)

I have no idea either, only it looks like when you are compiling and you need to have a file .pc for pkgconfig that comes from the dev libs... so what provides .mk files for those utils? >_<

user136984
Ah... I think I may know what the problem is...

user136984
3:36 PM
I didn't actually install any of the dependencies needed for building it... :D

that could be an issue :)

user136984
Ooh! Finally hit 13k (again)! :D

congratulations :)

grats

user136984
Only 2-3k left to go before I get back to where I was before the Great Purge as some refer to it... :D

3:43 PM
don't speak too soon xD
great purge may happen again :P

user136984
3:55 PM
Now I am having other problems... I need to sign the .changes file with debsign but it says that it can't find my secret key.

user136984
What do I do? How do I sign it?

user136984
It says secret key not available.

@ParanoidPanda Have you got a secret key?
type gpg --list-keys
as the same user that's running debsign

user136984
@StefanoPalazzo: Should do, but I've had this problem before when I needed to sign my LP CoC.

user136984
Got past it somehow but don't remember how, it's because I have two sets of keys.

3:59 PM
one of them will be marked as default

user136984
I need to sign this with the other one.

user136984
Is there not a way to specify which to use?

well that's still weird. Why wouldn't debsign just use the default one
even if you don't want it

user136984
I don't know, I think it's probably a bug...

4:01 PM
are you sure that's running as the same user?

user136984
Yes, there is only one user on this machine and that's me.

Maybe pbuilder changes it, if you're using that
well I was thinking more about root :)

user136984
Well, he's running here as well...

try just typing echo "hello" | gpg --sign
that's what debsign does
I think

user136984
gpg: no default secret key: secret key not available
gpg: signing failed: secret key not available

user136984
4:06 PM
@StefanoPalazzo: But I have previously got it working with both keys...

user136984
So you have no idea then?

@ParanoidPanda I'm stumped
Maybe your default key doesn't have a secret key
you can type gpg --list-secret-keys (I think)

Hi @Seth ! :) Hi @StefanoPalazzo ! :)

Also have a look at the keyring manager
I find it easier to understand

hi!

4:10 PM
hi

hey

wassup???

@dino Hi ! welcome back ! :)

thanks

4:11 PM
@James nothing special ... Hi James ! :)

I like the new style btw. simple and elegant :)

@AnwarShah Hello ... again ! :D

what happened to @dino? Did someone take all the jokes out of him? :(
8

Thanks

@cl-netbox :)

4:12 PM
@Seth yes ... indeed !

@Serg - are you here ?

@Serg thanks, I'll check out the indicator sometime next week I think, if I don't get it done today.

@gansub no ... he is sleeping ... which he does seldom enough ! :)

user136984
@StefanoPalazzo No output from that...

@cl-netbox - ok thanks
i need help on installing matplotlib
on 16.04

4:17 PM
brb

@gansub where is the problem ?

@cl-netbox think i got the wrong version :-)

@gansub then try to purge it and reinstall the correct version

@gansub there are tons of questions about installing all sorts of scientific python packages on AU and SO. have you checked them out yet?

user136984
@StefanoPalazzo: The private key is listed in the GUI.

4:19 PM
@edwinksl -yes
i have
i usually do a search on SO before asking here

also search on AU

yea well AU OK

SO regularly closes questions that are purely about installation

@gansub did you install it from an external repo ?

4:21 PM
@ParanoidPanda okay thats not normal

@gansub i discourage installing matplotlib from source
it takes a long time to compile and it is error-prone

I'm on mobile so I can't really help you much sorry

@edwinksl I agree with that !

@edwinksl OK
you have used matplotlib ?

yes i use scientific python packages

4:22 PM
@edwinksl - Ed's my man !
He is a chemical engineer !

i encourage getting it from ubuntu's repos if you are ok with them being somewhat outdated or installing using pip and virtualenv

user136984
@Videonauth: Didn't you help me with signing a file last time? I'm sure you did...

@cl-netbox :D we all have been there...

are you making a package?
I will try to figure out debuild for you after my food.

@edwinksl are installation questions on topic at AU ?

user136984
4:26 PM
@StefanoPalazzo: Actually, I think I ended up using a browser tool last time judging by the chat history... Do you think that this is a bug then?

of python packages in ubuntu? yeah. there are tons of them

@gansub stupid question : did you already simply try sudo apt install python-matplotlib ?

@cl-netbox - i am just trying sudo apt-get install python3-matplotlib

@dino speaking of that, how familiar are you with UTT's setup.py?

@gansub try what I suggested : sudo apt install python-matplotlib

4:29 PM
@edwinksl I'd be very surprised if this was a bug in gpg or debsign
Sorry that was for @ParanoidPanda

@cl-netbox or python3-matplotlib :P people should use python 3 and not python 2 if they are starting from scratch
@StefanoPalazzo me = panda confirmed :P

@edwinksl so what happens if you run sudo apt install python3-matplotlib ?

@cl-netbox it installs the python 3 version of matplotlib

@edwinksl so where is the problem then @gansub ?

4:32 PM
@cl-netbox you recommended the python 2 version, so i just wanted to point out python 3 should be preferred if gansub is starting from scratch :D

@edwinksl i have to install basemap now 197 MB

just install basemap from ubuntu's repo

@edwinksl ah ... okay ... I only suggested it, because @gansub said installing python3 version of matplotlib doesn't work ...

$ apt list python3-mpltoolkits.basemap
Listing... Done
python3-mpltoolkits.basemap/xenial 1.0.7+dfsg-3build2 amd64

@cl-netbox i tried to install from source
bad idea

4:36 PM
@gansub yes ... obviously ... :(

though i would also say i myself don't install using ubuntu's repos :P i use pip and virtualenv to install my python packages

is the repo outdated ?

user136984
@StefanoPalazzo: Well, got it signed with the tool now...

@gansub yeah it probably is, but i am not sure by how much. let me check

Cool. Still no idea what it was?

4:44 PM
T-Mobile says they require a search warrant for bulk cellular location data ("tower dumps"). Only carrier to do this https://t.co/Qo9x1sVk2X
Props to T-mobile for that anyway.
times how long it takes Zach to pop up at mention of T-mobile

@gansub so it looks like only scipy is outdated, so all in all ubuntu repos are still good
$ apt list python3-numpy python3-scipy python3-matplotlib
Listing... Done
python3-matplotlib/xenial,now 1.5.1-1ubuntu1 amd64 [installed]
python3-numpy/xenial,now 1:1.11.0-1ubuntu1 amd64 [installed]
python3-scipy/xenial,now 0.17.0-1 amd64 [installed]
$ pip list | grep -E 'numpy|scipy|matplotlib'
matplotlib (1.5.1)
numpy (1.11.1)
scipy (0.18.0)

@edwinksl matplotlib version is currently 2.0
so repo version is way behind

2.0 is considered unstable
you have to grab it from the git repo

@Seth not much :(

@Seth hi

4:54 PM
gnite

user136984
I have GNOME 3.20 installed, I need to build something and make a debdiff for a 3.18 application, can I do that with my 3.20 installation or do I need an installation with 3.18 installed?

why is linux trending first on my fb feed lol

nice

Is there any way I can see my visited days in AU site?
I can see for only 1 month

@dino OK. I'll have to contact Mahesh then, I guess.
@Zacharee1 :p

5:09 PM
@Anwar can't use browser history extensions ?

@ParanoidPanda the most important thing is that all dependencies are matching for the targeted system ... so you need the dependency packages of 3.20 ... :)

@CodeX I need it for all 4 years.

user136984
@cl-netbox: Looks like I'll need a VM then...

anyway, I checked changing the months.

@ParanoidPanda that would be a possibility ... :)

5:13 PM
o/

@Anwar 4 years you spent answering questions :O

@CodeX I almost quit after november 2012

@Anwar after a fight with ?

@CodeX nothing and no one. I wasn't feeling interested any more that time

@Anwar what changed then

5:15 PM
@Seth yes please

@CodeX don't know
someone messed with find and mv

5:44 PM
uh oh

@dino what happened to joker?

user136984
@ThomasWard @StefanoPalazzo: All is now going well by the way, they really like my debdiff! :)

user136984
Which is great because I've never done this by myself before without completely and totally failing at some point! :D

@NathanOsman in abeyance

@NathanOsman Hi Nathan ! :)

5:50 PM
@cl-netbox Bravo signed for City yesterday..

@dino aha ... great news for the citizens ! Claudio is a great keeper ! :) ... so one step closer to winning the CL ! :)

I hope so. Any progress is good.

"nsfw" sorta

"Japanese pole vaulter’s Olympic dream crushed by his own penis"

@dino So I learned that you seem to be a big fan of Man City ... I am a big fan of BVB ... though they are far away from winning that cup ... :)

boxy!

5:54 PM
@Rinzwind please.

@dino where did the joker go?

@Rinzwind rinzy ! :)

@cl-netbox oh and i am a liverpool fan. thanks for letting us have your manager

@cl-netbox I am a big fan of sports and football
@Rinzwind had a little fight with him

@edwinksl hahaha ... yes ... Kloppo will turn the reds upside down ! :D

5:56 PM
@dino the fake or the real football?

@Rinzwind the one you play with the foot

@dino the real one :=)

@dino so the soccer football ... :D

@cl-netbox nope
it is called ... ascociation football ;-)

association football.
that's why it's called soccer

5:57 PM
@Rinzwind aha ... never heard this before

Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a sport played between two teams of eleven players with a spherical ball. It is played by 250 million players in over 200 countries and dependencies, making it the world's most popular sport. The game is played on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. The object of the game is to score by getting the ball into the opposing goal. The goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with their hands or arms while it is in play and only in their penalty area. Other players mainly use their feet to strike or pass the...
There :0
That is the official name afaik

@dino i had an australian colleague who actually calls it association football (and refuses to use soccer) to avoid confusing the americans

@edwinksl nice guy

and do note the "WORLDS MOST POPULAR SPORT"

anyway i roll my eyes whenever an american calls it soccer

5:59 PM
@edwinksl thatÅ› what we call HANDBALL >:-D

football or soccer is same thing to me. I don't talk to Americans about their football.

@dino as you mention it ... American Football is a quite exciting thing too ! :)

@cl-netbox definitely. it took me watching it live in person to finally understand it

It's scary.
I know basic things about a lot of sports.
but some sports are a lot confusing compared to others

@edwinksl most people think it's just a rough fight ... but to win you need a lot of intelligence and knowledge of strategy ! :)
@dino that indeed is true ... one example : Baseball ... :)

6:04 PM
Heh, baseball I am familiar with.

hate when I get so lost in my own code that I feel starting over could be better than fixing what I got -.-

Cricket is terrible to newcomers.

yes that's true as well
@Fabby Hi Sir ! :D

O/_

@cl-netbox oh definitely i was one of those people but i 100% changed my mind after learning more

6:07 PM
:D
Since when did this become The "bread and circuses" room??? >:)

@Fabby what do you mean with bread and circus my friend ? :)

6:37 PM
Nice. Qt Creator just crashed.

@ParanoidPanda great!

@ParanoidPanda Congrats ! well done ! :)

Yeah
Debian packaging is the preserve of the brave.

user136984
@ThomasWard: You're right, they are quite simple.

user136984
Once you know how to do them.

user136984
9:30 PM
@NathanOsman: Good to have your old profile back! Things almost feel normal like they used to! ;D

hi. does anyone have an idea when ubuntu 15.10 und ubuntu 16.04 will get their git package updated the next time?

@UTF-8 15.10 will never get it

I found 3 bugs in git, 2 of which I told the guys on the git mailing list about and they were nice enough to fix them. I haven't told them about the 3rd one yet because I didn't have a good way of reliably replicating it and now I don't know if either of the 2 other bug fixes already fixed that 3rd one and if it did I don't want to bother them with it
oh, why?

15.10 is EOL
no more updates

the 3rd one only occurs when using ssh so I'd need some systems with it and my systems are all running 15.10 and 16.04
i thought it has 2 years of support

9:41 PM
more like 9 months

oh, shit
thanks

user136984
@UTF-8: LTS (Long-Term-Support) releases have from 2-4 years of support. The releases in the middle (15.10 is one of those releases, 16.04 is not) only have 9 months.

than I'm going to update my systems this night

user136984
LTS releases get released every 2 years.

better do that

9:41 PM
*then

@ParanoidPanda 2, Panda
every 4 releases

thought 2, too

user136984
@Zacharee1: Yes, I meant cycles...

:p

user136984
That's what I think in terms of now... My whole life's calendar is based on the Ubuntu release cycles... :P

9:43 PM
okay, other than me going to update my systems really soon. then they'll all be 16.04. when do you think 16.04 will get its git package updated? or where can I find out?

@UTF-8 you'd probably have to ask whoever manages the repo updates

user136984
Well, you can check if it's waiting in the -proposed channel... Or file a downstream report... If you know it's been fixed upstream then you could file a report asking for it to be backported in. They often just don't know about upstream patch releases.

9:58 PM
i took down my 15.10 system which was connected to the internet
can I figure out the git version in the proposed channel without downloading it?
like is there a website like packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/git-core for the proposed channel?

Proposed packages should show up in there.
Oh, hang on.
I was thinking of backports. Never mind.
They will show up in Launchpad though.

you can use rmadison
but it's not always proposed

user136984
10:14 PM
Goodnight! :)

user136984
I smell really strongly of Natto... :D

user136984
Nobody else can go near me, but I don't really have a choice... :P But I like the smell.

@thomas but i still have to enable installing proposed packages?
@ThomasWard sry, didn't know how to reference someone

10:48 PM
Won't it be funny if the first post of a SE site was a spam?

What's I2P?
ah

@Zacharee1 It's a so called tor alternative to keep you anonymous on the internet of spys.

11:15 PM
I wish one could transfer rep. from one site to another for the purpose of starting a bounty.

11:27 PM
then people only would bounty rep. from the sites with cheap rep.

Anonymous
hi everyone

Anonymous
@Zacharee1 - I don't intend to have a 1:1 follow ratio on Twitter. It just ends up that way. Until recently (months), I used to follow more than have those follow me

is it normal that ubuntu has the cpu cooking while booting
Core 0: +93.0°C (high = +84.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
i just noticed this
gets down to 49° to 52° after a few minutes, though

Anonymous
depends on the hardware maybe

Anonymous
for me, no

Anonymous
11:34 PM
I only ever reach those temps when gaming -- on my very very small computer not meant to game but was marketed for it

Anonymous
@UTF-8 ^

have you checked? i have this laptop for like 9 months now and didn't notice it. the fans don't spin up when booting
so i didn't hear anything

Anonymous
I haven't checked, but if my computer works hard at those temps, I def hear it

Anonymous
What laptop are you using? If HP that's your problem :P

well, mine usually, too. if i run something that heats the cpu up to 70°, it gets load. however, the system seems to just not care about the temperature until after a few seconds after it booted
no, i'm through with HP
using an acer, now

Anonymous
11:39 PM
Yeah, we haven't used them in a few years. Back in the day, we've tried maybe half a dozen laptops (some same model, but dups), and they all eventually fried from over heating

Anonymous
My mom has an Acer, too, now!

Anonymous
black edition something I think

same. they even wrote it on the touchpad

Anonymous
So, you're hardware is fine -- there's no issue with that

Anonymous
Look for something in the bios settings. I am not sure what, but maybe there's a setting you can toggle

11:41 PM
you say this from knowing i have an acer laptop? ^^

Anonymous
no, that you have the black edition acer laptop

Anonymous
Like, your hardware is fine, as far as if it was a brand new laptop... Not sure if it is fine after you using it for 9 months though

now, that's funny. the temperature is at 82 degrees right when i log in. i tped in sensors again and it was at 89 degrees. then waited for a second, typed it in, again, and at was already down to 68 degrees
forgot how to access the bios, though ^^
googled it
i'll install the os another time to see if that fixes to problem
