2:00 AM
@Serg agreed
@Seth well then

So Nexus 5X, Galaxy S5 or OnePlus 2?

I am biased towards the last one

Why's that?

Because that's the phone i have :p

It actually gets pretty bad reviews, which has me kinda worried.
@Serg Oh! Had any problems with it?

2:03 AM
@Seth not really . . . lately it has been slightly laggy , but that's because i am not the best owner ever and stuffed it with over 1500 of pictures and video recordings. Camera is alright, though there's a bit of a trick with flash - if you enable HDR mode or whatever , flash wont work.
Otherwise, it's pretty good, and good prettiness

@Serg that HDR thing is standard.

@Serg flash shouldn't work in HDR mode

because of how HDR works.

Good to know though.

really ? oh . . . well , that's the first phone with HDR that i had , so . . . blah

2:04 AM
I'm kinda leaning towards the OP2 because it will let me do up to 30 second exposures.

S5 has expandable storage though
Don't get the Nexus

yeah, but S5 has lousy camera with no manual controls.
Nexus has the best camera of the 3, minus the 30 second exposure ability.

im gonna post a few screenshots, if no one is against it

go for it

then get a good camera app
That's why we unlock it and put CyanogenMod on it

2:06 AM
@Zacharee1 You don't understand, the best camera app for Android said they can't provide manual controls on the S5 because of the way Samsung sets it up.

but I've said that before
@Seth I don't really like the Nexus camera
@Seth wow

By the way , Zach and edwinksl have seen the recordng i made on my OnePlus 2
I guess it's fairly decent , according to them

@Zacharee1 Well that makes 0 sense heh
12.3MP 1/2.3" and 1.55µm is pretty good.

Plus RAW support.

2:07 AM
Well go for the OP2 then
@Serg of the dog right

apps menu from middle button

@Seth It doesn't do a good job when you zoom at all

@James Uh, no?

There's fingerprint scanner, which i don't use

also, wat. I just payed $15 for a 5200 mAh battery, only to realize OnePlus sells a 10,000 mAh one for $19 -.-

2:08 AM

@Zacharee1 like I said, no phone really does.

@Seth gg

main screen

16MP is obviously better than 12 for that, but not by much.
And it's not worth giving up all the manual controls and RAW support.

I might be getting a OnePlus One

2:09 AM
there's also a side menu of frequently used apps and contacts, which i never use

@Seth it's not even that. It's just that it gets really pixellated even at low zoom.

@James BTW, I installed that Vim thing, but now when I'm in command mode it does this:

Aaand that's the last one

@RPiAwesomeness friend has one. Good phone.

2:10 AM
Yeah. I'm really hoping to get it. Gotta convince parents it's okay :P
$150 from a coworker

@Seth the 5X is $500. (which doesn't seem right_

@Zacharee1 no it's not lol
especially used ;)

which doesn't seem right
omfg

32GB is 399.
16 is 349.

what is with this connection!>!>!

2:12 AM
:/

@Seth Yes, that was one thing I really liked about the OP3 - the last time I went camping, I took some 30s exposure shots.

ooh, cool!

They didn't exactly turn out the way I'd hoped though...
I pointed it at the sky (near some trees) hoping to get some stars but it turned out to be cloudy.

If you remove the leaves, it kind of looks like mass of gas you see in space

lol

2:16 AM
Here's another shot I took a few minutes earlier so that you get an idea of how dark it actually was at the time:

URGGGGH

I'm about to go on the crappy Bell H+ connection, because even that's better than this

You can't roam with LTE?

Does anyone know how many public github repos a free user can have ?

2:16 AM
@Serg Unlimited public repos.
I have well over 100 myself.

@NathanOsman only overlapping LTE band is 4, which is only for XLTE and such, which isn't anywhere

That's a shame.

I was getting some Telus or Bell LTE in Toronto, but we're not in Toronto anymore :p

what's really annoying is that VZW counts you being on its network as roaming as long as you're in CA

2:18 AM
So, as long as one doesn't go over 1 GB

@Zacharee1 I ought to visit Toronto some time. Does it rain 24/7 there still?

There was a lot of rain iirc

Mkay, two repos initialized . . . . cracks fingers expect more shiz to go down

@RPiAwesomeness Weird. You might have an old vim version. I had to update mine to get it to work properly.

@James Just needed to restart actually

2:24 AM
@RPiAwesomeness gotcha.

Though, do you know how to add tabs?

@RPiAwesomeness check out ~/.vimrc
~line 242

shiftwidth and expandtab

think there's enough saturation?

2:27 AM
that's the great thing about it @RPiAwesomeness - most of it's just normal vim stuff, but it brings in some nice plugins and sane defaults.

@Zacharee1 Is that the CN Tower?

If you're feeling adventurous, I'm going to start using spacemacs.org next week.

@NathanOsman probably

2 hours till i can award the bounty . . . .welp, youtube here i come

3:24 AM
@James that's what I'm looking forward to.

4:03 AM
Argh. That annoying feeling when GCC won't compile something so you switch to Clang for a helpful error message and it compiles.

The hustle and fussle these programming days...
The annoying feeling when in Windows 10 the start menu doesn't work
I have to restart explorer.exe UGH

You should have been here the other day when Windows 10 went bonkers on my laptop.

Oh, what was wrong?

I couldn't bring up the control panel at first and explorer kept crashing.

RAM overload?

4:10 AM
I couldn't even boot safe mode - just kept getting BSOD.
Finally decided to wipe everything and install Windows 7.

Did you remember the error code?

Haven't had a problem since.

Yeah, Windows 7 is more cooler
Not bad for a OS that was based on Vista...
ah, here it is
yesterday, by Nathan Osman
The last Windows 10 update messed things up so badly I couldn't even boot into safe mode without a BSOD.
I was sleeping then

@ƎpᴉʇʎXD "WDF_VIOLATION"
Whatever that means.

Ok I will dxdiag the problem XD
The WDF_VIOLATION bug check has a value of 0x0000010D. This indicates that Kernel-Mode Driver Framework (KMDF) detected that Windows found an error in a framework-based driver.
So a faulty, incompatable or old not updated driver was the root cause.
Did it come up with a bug check code ? @NathanOsman

4:16 AM
Nope.
Hang on, I took a picture...

Okay :D
I hope you did not overclock your computer.

It is currently underclocked.
That's all it displayed.

thanks windows for the really useful error message

how typical

@edwinksl Oh, for me "a bug check goes a long way."
@NathanOsman eat this answer
1. Try connecting to different video outputs on the PC. Sometimes a change in driver can cause the video to be sent:
To a different Adapter: from integrated graphics to a discrete card or vice versa.
To a different output: from HDMI to DVI, DisplayPort to VGA, or any other combination.
2. Try to boot into Safe Mode with Networking or Enable low-resolution video.
Advanced boot options, Safe Mode with Networking, or Low Resolution Video.

@ƎpᴉʇʎXD It's a laptop.

@Serg are you here ?

@gansub Yes, what's up ?

6:53 AM
i have a working system now
i have to install netcdf for python
when i type python3.5 setup.py build_ext it says numpy not found
should i install my own numpy using gcc
or point to an existing numpy ?
i have decided not to use Intel compiler moving forward because that could mess up my Ubuntu again

@gansub numpy can be installed via repositories

how do i check if it is there in my repository or not ?

Intel: ubantu

apt-cache search python3-numpy
To install , sudo apt-get install python3-numpy

@Serg it is there

6:58 AM
I am 100% certain it is in the repositories, because it is in mine
@gansub ok,so use sudo apt-get install python3-numpy
:)

python3-numpy - Fast array facility to the Python 3 language
python3-numpy-dbg - Fast array facility to the Python 3 language (debug extension)
python3-numpydoc - Sphinx extension to support docstrings in Numpy format -- Python3
@Serg do you use scipy as well ?

If you want the dbg and doc package, you can install those too , if you add --install-suggests option
@gansub no i don't use that

morning

@AnwarShah - good morning

i don't do much scientific stuff in python, not yet at least

7:01 AM

@AnwarShah morning

@gansub good to know

i am using xenial

Night all.

7:02 AM
hello xenial goodbye trusty

good night @NathanOsman
My frustration with this systemd is increasing :(
It can't even cleanly restart in my machine. halts all thing but i hear cpu running

@serg do you use Cython ?

@gansub nope

i am installing it now with h5py
i wonder if there is a Jython

@gansub Change is always good.

7:08 AM
@ƎpᴉʇʎXD - i lost a month of work
and three months of data

so if you dont mind me saying i will take that with a pinch of salt

once i lost 13 years of data!

once ?
ol

How do you guys handle mail migration?

7:15 AM
@gansub Jython ? Java + Python ? um . . . maybe . . . i don't know how that would work

I am handeling a migration of a webiste, which alos has 10 imap mailboxes, but loading it in to my mail client and copying the e-mail to to new server mailbox takes forever.

any recommendation for good high graphic open source game ? @all

define high graphic

games which require more GPU power

7:26 AM
what GPU do you have

@Serg - i get an error pkgconfig not found

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M

is that a separate package i must install ?

@gansub what issued the error ? apt-get install python3-numpy ?

@CodeX and what genre of games are you interested in

7:28 AM
first person shooting games

@Serg no installing h5py

@CodeX so maybe overwatch?

@gansub and how were you installing it ? from source ? or via apt-get ?

@edwinksl Thanks

@Serg python3.5 setup.py install

7:30 AM
@CodeX 0 A.D.

@blade19899 thanks will see that too

@CodeX oh lol i entirely missed you said open source. overwatch is definitely not open-source

Oops xD

i have to think harder

@gansub um . . . try this, run sudo apt-get install python-h5py , and then re-run your install script

7:36 AM
@Serg i need that for python4
sorry python3

python3-h5py
Change the package name

@Serg downloading

Q: ubuntu server - run on wan loca ubuntu server

PhoenixI am totally new with ubuntu. I have installed latest version of ubuntu server (16.04 lts). My server is running on 192.168.0.50 on LAN from my workstation. But now i want to access this server from my house. Is it possible ?

@gansub How about this: run the command export PYTHONPATH="/usr/local/lib/python3.5/dist-packages" , then try re-running install
@Phoenix so where is your server ? you say you want to access if from home, so it's not at home ?
@gansub sorry, had to edit out space

@serg i have installed server @ workstation and i want to access it at home. on my workstation server is running on LAN but i want to access it from my home

@Phoenix so your server is at work ?

yes

Probably not possible. Your work must allow port forwarding. That means , their router must allow connection to a computer on their local network.

8:07 AM
i am doing stage there.. i take old pc
and installed ubuntu server

stage what ?

ok
school stage
for experiance
experience*

you can use ..team viewer ..or chrome's remote desktop app .. but this might not be the most secure way of connecting

Oh. Sorry, we cannot do anything about it. You would have to talk to your system administrator at work.

@serg ok thanks.. I think they have port forwarding option in their router

8:09 AM
@CodeX don't they need port forwarding as well ?

no .. they dont

@codeX i didnot install gui on server

@Serg
oh

GUI on server computer is bad idea , it's not done for security reasons

I mean for those software's one doesn't have to configure port forwarding .. app talks to server ..server talks to client ..as far as I understand

8:11 AM
@serg exectly why i didn't install

what is the purpose of server @Phoenix

to distribute information
collection of information ?

@Serg so OP basically wants to be you askubuntu.com/questions/812844/…

kind of spy server ? xD

@Serg my /usr/local/lib/python3.5/dist-packages is empty
it is all under /usr/lib/python3.5

I am not able to remove that gif

Hmmm... I ran a caching-NNTP server for many years, not sure if that counts....

@gansub well you know what i mean, just change your PYTHONPATH

@Seth So yeah, the indicator works, i will be making icon for it, or @Zacharee1 can make one if he's not busy. I don't know how i will handle that. I will also be adding middle-button click option to it, so you can store profiles just via that.
