I have pasted my question a day ago.... still I have no comment or answer from superusers... I am afraid from where I will get help?

Be patient! :) It can take a while for people to find your question
In the meantime, you should be doing your own research and continuing to try things

@BenN :) you right. Well I am also trying by myself in parallel.

Bob
@hackingNerd So you're not running a VM at all?
Interesting.
How many external IPs did you say you had?

@Bob I am working under NAT'd network... I am not clear what you actually want to know?

A: Expanding storage on a soft RAID10

bwDracoComplete the following steps for each disk; replace /dev/sda1 with other disks as necessary. You must complete all of these steps for one disk before you proceed to the next disk. Mark the disk as failed so that MD stops using it: mdadm --fail /dev/md127 /dev/sda1 Remove the disk from the array...

Is this correct? I played with mdadm a while back and kinda know the steps but just want to make sure.

@SnailMail any transparent plastic sanded with an appropriate grit of sandpaper would work. therpf.com/showthread.php?t=64406 might be a usefu; starting point?
google.com.sg/… is where I started 400 grit sandpaper seems appropriate and you can buy diffuser films for large, flat areas.

Feedback on that answer?
I want to make sure it's correct because of the potential for data loss if done incorrectly.

@bwDraco shrug It helped the OP, so clearly it works.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek That's basically DIY frosting... might as well buy pre-made? :P

@Bob assuming you can get what you want frosted.
funny thing is my local daiso sells plastic lights that look like what he posted... sometimes.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek "...sometimes" should be appended to every "I found X at Daiso" post :P

;p
@Bob not everyone is aware of the wonder and terror that is daiso ;p

12:43 AM
Made a bit of a correction in the answer.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of what we call 99-cent stores here.
I care about the quality of what I buy.

@bwDraco we're huge fans
@bwDraco the thing with daiso is most of the stuff we buy is pretty good for what we pay or its dodgy in all the right ways.

Bob
Price != quality
My $2.80 pair of Daiso kitchen scissors performs far better than the $5 pair of Coles (big supermarket chain) scissors.

cat
`````````````````
Wtf is daiso?
@Bob my dad tends to be pretty hard on kitchen knives
@cat A chain of stores with lots of cheap stuff, like what we call 99-cent stores here.
12:48 AM
@cat japan's greatest export since tentacles anime.
cat
Oh hey my Finnair adverts are back
Wait no they've turned into Qantas now...
Basically anything in the store's a fixed price ($2 here), and the have an electic assortment of stuff.
Bob
@bwDraco Have you ever really looked at one?
@bwDraco half the fun is in finding stuff that's actually useful/decent amongst all the wierd crap.
I don't recall going to a Daiso here in the States. There aren't exactly a lot around here.
12:49 AM
(and the other half the fun's in the engrish instructions)
Bob
Daiso actually gets things manufactured specifically for them.
Everything there has their branding on their packaging.
(of course, most of it is probably just rebadged, but it's not quite bottom of the barrel)
@Bob I suspect they have a fair economy of scale
There's one planned for New York City, but I don't quite see anything yet.
Bob
actually, their notebooks have really good paper in them too
great for fountain pens
Bob
12:51 AM
@JourneymanGeek Definitely. Something about hundreds of stores worldwide.
And they actually care about their branding.
@Bob remind me again, did you find daiso yourself, or was it my fault?
There's only about 50 Daiso stores in the United States, most of which are on the West Coast.
Most stuff is priced at $1.50.
Bob
Yes, it's fixed-price. Yes, the price is pretty cheap. No, most of their products don't just fall apart as soon as you take them out of the box.
Actually I haven't had anything Daiso fail on me yet
@JourneymanGeek that is a good question :P
I think it might've been indirectly your fault
ah, ok ;p
Bob
since you got me into FPs and I think I wandered into Daiso the first time while looking for one
12:53 AM
ah, ok
Bob
Ah, no. @JourneymanGeek You directly suggested Daiso when I mentioned I was looking :P
Jul 13 '13 at 14:42, by Bob
I searched Daiso in Nokia Maps
my fault ;p
@Bob if you ever see their light/dark grey microfibre cloths, grab one. Best thing ever for cleaning phones
gaborousShort answer It's impossible to guarantee a long timeframe because of entropy (also called death!). Digital data decay and dies, just like any other thing in the universe. cat
So Daisos is in both your countries?
cat
Dang
We have none here :-(
I want Japanese/Polish food
But it's 2am.
Bob
@cat now that we don't have
Daiso doesn't do food
and Japanese food here === sushi & noodles & dumplings
@Bob or Shio Pan apparently
Bob
1:03 AM
(still looking for shio pan :P)
;p
SIngapore has everything ._. If you know where to look.
There's a decent Japanese food place near here...
It's yummy... not sure how authenticate though.
@cat is anything 24 hours in the UK?
Other than the garages.
They make a mean Karaage Donburi though.
Bob
apparently there's Japanese bakeries over in Eastwood
which is totally in the wrong direction for me
cat
1:04 AM
@Bob I thought that was japanese food
Eastwood! I have an uncle who lived around there.
cat
@JourneymanGeek Yes, but what it is depends where you live
Bob
@cat it's become a bit of a running joke that I've been looking for the shio pan @JourneymanGeek mentioned, without any luck
cat
We have 24 hour petrol, 24 hour supermarkets, 24 hour casinos (with restaurants) in some cities, and 24 hour bars/brothels in others
wtf is shio pan
It looks like a croissant
Bob
a few years back our 24-hour supermarkets stopped being 24-hour
last year a new one opened up and became 24-hour
Well it's only been "trendy" for a month, no wonder you can't find it
There's a "cake" place near my work that does that kind of stuff.
Bob
1:06 AM
@MichaelFrank the cake place near here does... cakes
Oh, it's a Japanese Cake place. :P
Also, LOL, the GeForce 910M is just a slightly uprated GT 540M, in turn based on a GT 435M core.
Talk about excessive rebadging of generations-old hardware...
cat
And being half the speed of the iGPU on a recent Intel mobile processor, I wonder why it even exists...
Bob
@cat also stomped on by Intel now :P
...yay slow replies
cat
1:09 AM
No wait, more like 1/3rd the speed of a low end iGPU
Heck even the Atom probably has an iGPU that's twice as fast and uses half the power
Bob
oh wait
x5-8300 has Broadwell graphics
cat
@Bob OK fine, it's only 30% faster.
afk for a bit. Going to build my wall-e for a bit. I'm in the room, and available so if anything needs urgent mod attention, just ping me.
Bob
wait it's even worse
cat
1:12 AM
The 910M still uses 8 times the power of the Atom CPU+GPU combined though
Bob
@cat that one is 24 EUs but the x5 only has 12 EUs
@cat true :P
a core m should have a proper Skylake GPU
@cat Core m3-6Y30: videocardbenchmark.net/…
WTF is an M2
Bob
@cat A typo :P
Also Passmark doesn't seem to have a page for the Intel HD 405 (as used in the Atom X7)
Why on Earth is NVIDIA still making Fermi chips?
cat
1:16 AM
@Bob And the Core M still only uses 1/3rd the power, even including the CPU :-P
Heck I wonder if a software renderer would be faster on a modern CPU
NVIDIA absolutely need to stop using GF119. Is this an issue of surplus?
Bob
probably
Where's GK209 or GM209?
Bob
guess: manufacturing contract on old process node => some OEMs want the cheapest possible dGPU to make their products sound fancier => ??? => profit
cat
A 6700K gets about 200-240 GFLOPS, which is a little lower than a HD 4200
And a little more than a HD510
1:20 AM
There's a GM107, but no GM207 revision. There's also no GM208, let alone a GM209.
Bob
@cat yup. still makes my new tablet nice and warm in the corner :P
cat
Somehow Passmark's results say a 510 is much faster than a 515 :-/
@Bob Yeah, 4.5w without active cooling can still get pretty warm.
There's a GM108...
Bob
@cat I swear I can hear a fan in there
Looks like NVIDIA is not going to produce new low-power chips anytime soon.
Q: Protecting solar panels from kids who may throw stones to get monkeys off roof
gansubI have read this question - Solar panels and hail and my question is similar. I have the possibility that neighboring kids may throw stones at my roof top solar panels to scare off monkeys which are a local pest. What protection measures I can take as I do not think my insurance will cover that...
> The Australian Olympic Committee confirmed on Sunday evening that the athletes' village has been deemed uninhabitable in the short term due to significant plumbing and electrical concerns.
> "Problems include blocked toilets, leaking pipes, exposed wiring, darkened stairwells where no lighting has been installed and dirty floors in need of a massive clean.
> "In operations areas water has come through the ceiling resulting in large puddles on the floor around cabling and wiring."
That sucks...
Better than the Space Olympics though
Bob
> "We decided to do a "stress test" where taps and toilets were simultaneously turned on in apartments on several floors to see if the system could cope once the athletes are in-house.
"The system failed. Water came down walls, there was a strong smell of gas in some apartments and there was "shorting" in the electrical wiring. "
@Bob Bit of a shamble, huh?
@Bob 0_0
@Bob drones , armed drones :-) I was trying to figure out how i would protect my own solar as i travel though tornado alley. "replace the glass" ? seriously, an impact that breaks the glass would destroy the very thin glass cells , there might be a few left that would survive. I was thinking a canvas tarp might be just enough impact reduction when "tempered" glass wants one tiny sharp smack on it to dissolve into oblivion. "designed to withstand"
@Psycogeek but you'd block out the sun. That's good for when its not in use
tell that to the people who have had real hail.
@JourneymanGeek right, some kind of rush out in 60MPH winds and toss the protection on it, tie it down with grommets, and end up with a 10 foot kite.
I have seen hail break cars windshields, the one i was in was mostly verticle, again just rotating is not an option either. bad hail comes with 100+ mPH winds following tornadoes around. it is no longer effected by gravity :-) How are large hail balls formed, by combining other hail into them. this means that BIG hail usually has swirled around in the clouds and storm , completely defying gravity.
@Bob hand the kids laser pointers. Put it on youtube? ;p
4:36 AM
So some bookworm calculating the velocity based on gravity, and saying "that'll do it" doesnt even understand the first things about hail :-)
@mrenigma I have delt with such thing before, not the same error, but i lost activation possibility when i deleted OOBE (if i remember right) completly out of XP.
The next time i just deleted more selectivly :-)
its no big deal as its just in a test VM
@mrenigma What Windows 10 skin in that?
it isnt windows 10
next time a telco complains about how much bandwidth people are using , i am going to break down and cry for them :-)
there is somones huge motorhome after hail 1.bp.blogspot.com/-hXku2YZu10c/V0Iaw05rnFI/AAAAAAAADdg/… the solar pannel, well the awning, heck the roof didnt make it.
@Psycogeek if you're going to want to protect against impact, you'd want some space or padding between the thing you want to protect, and the thing that gets hit
these awnings are usually a hearty canvas, with space it would go right through it. with it on top of the glass it would just slightly reduce the impact.
padding?
'hard' covers?
looking there though only thing gonna fully protect is steel or alum.
I've seen falling objects punch through thin steel.
6:47 AM
both of those things would be rather heavy to be hauling.
Q: Difference between gnu and darwin and mach
iPhoneDevProfThese terms belong to the Mac OS X architecture topic and I'm confused about the following: mach is said to be a microkernel Darwin and XNU are mentioned to be a kernel So ...can you help me to understand the separation of those terms and how they collaborate to power the Mac OS X environment ...
Cloned HDD to SSD yesterday using AOMEI Backupper. Left laptop and SSD powered on until this morning.
Noticed SSD no longer appears in My Computer and pulled out USB cord from SATA/USB adapter.
Plugged back and no sign of SSD.
was that your new samsung?
hm, that's not good.
might also be the sata/usb adaptor.
they certannly make a lot of low costs versions of those, and some research into the "cart"like ones shows they are not all reliable.
@DavidPostill i donno, but in all probability he had aquired the rep needed to chat at some time, and because it is designed to keep anachists and spammers out, it probably still allows access if you once had such reputation. like say you blow 100rep out doing a bounty. I doubt he qualifies as being malicious, but getting kicked in the head could cause improvment in the Q&A work?
its usually in the hardware/cable/headphone section
@JourneymanGeek Ah. Microfibre. I have an identical one (down to the stitching) in pale blue tucked under my laptop stand. Bought in NL from a similar kind of store. Spooky.
8:12 AM
@DavidPostill I love it for cleaning phone screens
works dry, and is a lot cheaper (and environmentally friendly) than wet screen wipes
Bob
Can't find it at the cbd one :/
@Psycogeek It's my old Intel 330i 120GB. Tried Intel SSD Toolbox and it does not see beyond internal HDD. Will try booting into their tool from CD-ROM and make sure I first attach SSD internally to motherboard replacing HDD.
@JourneymanGeek I like it for cleaning my glasses as well :)
And when it gets too dusty it can go in the washing machine and come out as new.
the cloth, not the glasses? ;p
yep ;P
@Boris_yo oh, that sounds like a good idea, unless it is cooked, or (slightly) shorting. arggg, dangerous plugging if it was cooking, to plug that into something you really care about , till you know more.
(its amusing how people continents apart can have the same tastes ;p)
@JourneymanGeek That's why I said "spooky" above ...
I also have a fluffy cloth with a spray (from challenger) for more involved cleaning.
Bob
I'm not even a quarter way through my pack of these m.ebay.com.au/itm/…
@Bob i dont really like thos much, only MF rag that still drops lint, because of the unhemmed edges. stupid things they give you to put bubbles under screen protectors :-)
speaking of. . . how does anyone put a screen protector on a 10" tablet with no bubbles without a real clean room.
8:22 AM
@Psycogeek verrrry carefully
I use the shower trick, get heavy water vapor from hot shower, holds down the dust. but as the screens get bigger, the time taken to have a perfect bubble free is much longer.
well, taking your time's essential
I tend to use a bright light so I can see, and wet + dry wiping when I did it last
@Psycogeek It's not detected in BIOS
On boot it locks up for 10 seconds and then does not see drive.
> During normal operation or in Safe mode, your computer may play "Fur Elise" or "It's a Small, Small World" seemingly at random. This is an indication sent to the PC speaker from the computer's BIOS that the CPU fan is failing or has failed, or that the power supply voltages have drifted out of tolerance.
