Q: Help the poor Cryptographers - DLP Edition

SEJPMIntroduction and Motivation I'm mainly active on Cryptography.SE and as such have already stumbled across the question: "How the hell am I supposed tools like cado-nfs to do stuff!?". They are super-complicated tools for a super-complicated task: Factoring large integers and computing large-scal...

@PhiNotPi idk :|

8:13 PM
So I've been looking at the question about Graham's number, and I've implemented a deterministic solution...but there's a catch

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ wat

It builds G by determining the digits from right to left, but it won't stop. Once it calculates Graham's number, it'll keep on calculating more digits. If it outputs the current value at every iteration, it'll certainly contain G, but it'll also result in a lot of unnecessary output. I'm not sure whether to post it as a solution or not, so I thought I'd see what the community thinks here.

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ woah

A: Usage of 'commas' vs 'commata'

Joshua KarstendickUse commas, not commata. The latter is simply not used by native speakers. Take a look, for example, at Google's Ngram Viewer on commas versus commata. It's not even close.

;)

@FryAmTheEggman Woah. TIL. I've literally never even heard the phrase commata before.

9:03 PM
I despise commas.

It does sound pretty bad, but I think I had only heard commata ever used in like Scrabble or some similar game before. It's probably about as awful as flammable or irregardless to someone who knows why :P

Because κόμματα is the plural of κόμμα (which is what all other languages derived them word from). It's also called Kommata in German.

@FryAmTheEggman Why ``flammable''?
Yeah, the Google Ngram thing shows a lot of hits for commata in German.

9:12 PM
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan haha I also want starbound. :P

@SirBidenXVII The word is "inflammable", "flammable" was intentionally introduced to try to reduce confusion (which, of course, it only added to).

it says you want it also on steam, on the sidebar

It's kinda insane that flammable and inflammable mean the same thing.
9

ikr
should be no such thing as inflammable, and un-flammable means not flammable

Is "non-flammable" also valid?

9:14 PM
Wait, creating new types in Python is that easy? Why do the Python docs make it sound so hard?

@Dennis where in the python doc?

@Fry please do!

@Dennis they meant new types in the C code, not python defined python types

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ yeah, it looks pretty cool. It's exciting that it actually made it out of early access!

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ And flammable is the kind of word where you want to avoid confusion at all costs.

@Dennis Thaw and dethaw.
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ In other words, "You must really need this job."

"Ability to deal with ambiguity" is a little too ambiguous for my tastes. I want to know exactly what kind of ambiguity I'm going to be dealing with.

The input determines how many digits of Graham's number to calculate. It can be reworked to take no input and generate digits indefinitely. The problem is that it won't stop at Graham's number--it'll continue tacking on digits for a theoretically infinite time.

Q: Print Numbers from 1 to 10

ClashsoftThis might be a very simple challenge, but I am surprised it hasn't been done on code-golf yet: Print all Integers from 1 to 10 inclusive in ascending order to the Standard Output Your output format can be whatever your language supports. aloisdgGoal The goal of this challenge is: given a string as input, remove duplicate pairs of letters, if the second item in the pair is of opposite capitalization. @mbomb007 Couldn't you just special case 2 (print 1 and exit)?

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ hahahahaha

I mean things like /[^] etc.
Is there a reference?

@Ronronner replace) developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/… the thing you're talking about is a Regular expression you can learn about them here and they are quite a few other resources on the web you can find just be searching "regex"

you are just removing every non-lowercase letter
