this is a very gay chat room
why can't i vote to delete questions, again?

no u r
@JSBᾶngs You can after two days.

i shouldn't have to wait two days to delete that gay crap

Name buddies!
can we close this as, um, unconstructive?

Q: Too, two, and to

KyleWhich to/too/two do you use when you are writing, "there are three ways to spell two/too/to in the English language?" My girlfriend has a BS in English and was unable to answer this so I was wondering if you guys had any idea.

@MattЭллен The "proper" box adds matches to words which are proper names. That makes a difference when you use the American English dictionary, which has proper names in it.

Oh! thanks :)

9:11 PM
There should be a dictionary selection popup. Also there is the option to limit the number of matches to 10, 20, 30, 40, or blank (unlimited).

unlimited! I shall have to find the best word for that :D

@MattЭллен I think Kosmo's answer makes that question constructive, in that it clarifies a major misconception some people have.

For performance reasons, you can get unlimited results, but you are limited to, I believe it is 9-letter words to start from. That's something I want to fix but haven't worked on.

@JSBᾶngs The question needs to be first closed. 20k users don't need to wait two days for voting to delete.
> Voting to delete questions immediately after they are closed (even if they are new)

@MrShinyandNew安宇 as you wish

user19161
9:19 PM
@RegDwightѬſ道 Gay like Reg Dwight!

user19161
@kiamlaluno It would be better if they can vote to delete even without the question being closed.

@WillHunting I don't see any reason.

Q: What does "octopus" mean in this scientific context?

Terry LiYifeng This is captured from a scientific paper on web data extraction and management. What does "octopus" mean in the subtitle?

@WillHunting too localized

how on earth are we meant to answer that?

user19161
9:26 PM
@MattЭллен Well, there are many geeks here like you.

but we don't even know the title of the paper
surely he can answer it by reading the paper?
terrible question is terrible

user19161
@MattЭллен I think he is probably another nutcase.

I can't believe I wasted five hours reading a crappy trashy romance, and there was only one less-than-inspired romantic interlude in it.

And the story was not great either.

9:29 PM
you are disappoint

And the writing was not great.
I am disappoint

user19161
@Kitḫ Then you need to read Twilight.

Hmm.

@Kitḫ you need to sue the author to get your time back.

Crappy teen romance does not actually sound more appealing.

9:30 PM
:D

@MattЭллен Maybe, except the book was free. Now I understand why.

my favourite romance novel is So Long and Thanks For All The Fish

Haha

@Kitḫ ah, yes. You got what you paid for. Sadly

I was so confused there for a minute.

user19161
9:31 PM
Now you know why I stopped reading fiction long long ago.

@Kitḫ yeah, NoFX and Douglas Adams get mixed up in my head

Lots of fiction is good.

user19161
No, movie is good.

Movies mostly are not good.
Not enough brain action. Too predictable.

Damn you Michael Bay! Why did you make Transformers 3?

9:33 PM
It's kind of like a prayer wheel. You've got to keep the money in motion somehow.

I suppose so

Otherwise, people might forget that they need fluff.
They might start paying attention to important stuff.

user19161
@MattЭллен The girl did not act in it, sad.

Anyway, ham and bunny pasta for dinner! Yay!

@WillHunting glad! Megan Fox gets a +1 from me for opting out

9:34 PM
Maybe peas too.

@Kitḫ good lord! then where would the world be?

user19161
@MattЭллен Why? You hate her?

@Kitḫ scrummy

@Kitḫ delicious

@WillHunting quite the opposite. The film is terrible. her being in it would have meant she approved of a terrible film

9:35 PM
(I hope bunny doesn't stay for rabbit.)

@MattЭллен It's really remarkable to consider, innit? I mean, think what sort of capacity we'd have if spam were removed from the internet.

you know, sometimes a box of macaroni and cheese is all that you want for dinner

@kiamlaluno Well, yes.

speaking of which, my second cheese is currently drying at home

@Kitḫ Gods! I know, I thought about that one day and got a bit angry

9:36 PM
@JSBᾶngs What kind?

@Kitḫ cheddar

I have never heard of somebody eating rabbit, in USA.

my first is also a cheddar
after this i think i'll try a gouda
and i may make a mozarella tonight

Love cheddar.

I thought it was just people with Italian roots, to eat it.

9:37 PM
And Mozz. Gouda meh.

you've probably never had good gouda

@kiamlaluno Well, I'm not eating rabbit, but lots of people do, especially rural folk.

@kiamlaluno well, lots of people died in Canada, because they only ate rabbit, and it doesn't have enough nutrients to sustain a person
This was a long time ago, when Canada was just starting out

i thought that gouda was bland and tasteless until i had some good gouda made my by cheesemaking instructor

@MattЭллен Uh? Really?

9:38 PM
@kiamlaluno so I was told

@MattЭллен wow. i learned something today

Annie's Homegrown is a Berkeley, California-based maker of natural and/or organic pastas, meals and snacks. The company, founded in Hampton, CT, is perhaps best known for its macaroni and cheese product line, which comes in shell form and bunny rabbit shapes, and is the second best selling macaroni and cheese in the United States. Their mascot is a rabbit named Bernie, who appears in the seal of approval called the "Rabbit of Approval". The company also produces Annie's Naturals, which consists of condiments, dressings, and barbeque sauces. The majority of stock of Annie's is owned by ...

note to self: don't try to subsist entirely on rabbit

user19161
@MattЭллен Anyway I did not watch 3, only 1 and 2. I am a fan of Shia though.

9:38 PM
That is why the world is so wrong. Canadian people who eat rabbit.

user19161
I ate frog before.

@WillHunting me too! i think you and me are the only ones

Careful. There's an adder in cheddar.

@WillHunting A friends of mine is also a fan. She likes his beard

@kiamlaluno who are you to talk? when i was in italy, we got rabbit baby food for our kid

9:38 PM
We don't call it mac and cheese, because 1. it's not macaroni, and 2. my son insists that he doesn't like cheese.

user19161
@JSBᾶngs I remember. That was unexpected.

@Kitḫ We love the bunny crackers and the mac and chee.

also we got ostrich and horse baby food. man, italy has the weirdest baby food

What do you think baby buntings are made out of?

user19161
@MattЭллен I think he looks cute.

9:39 PM
@Kitḫ Shia LeBeouf?

@JSBᾶngs lol

I find him annoying in films. I suppose he is moderately good looking

user19161
@MattЭллен Clearly not as much as you.

@MattЭллен Ditto.

@WillHunting you're too kind

9:40 PM
@WillHunting Matt is not at all annoying in films.

@JSBᾶngs In Italy, it is much common to eat those things. You will not find horse salami, in USA.

@kiamlaluno right, most americans are freaked out by the idea of eating horses
i've had horse salami. it wasn't notably different from regular salami

It makes me a little ill just thinking about it.

@JSBᾶngs What is about donkey meat?

9:41 PM
@kiamlaluno i don't think i've had donkey

swoons

though who knows, maybe my horse salami was adulterated with donkey

catches kit

In the case you wonder, that is what stracotto d'asino is.

no donkey salami in this chat

9:42 PM
Thanks, @Matt.

put smelling salts under kit's nose

gags

well, if there's no donkey salami, then i'm leaving
i'm also leaving b/c it's time for me to go home

No probs :)

@RegDwightѬſ道 Oh FCOL! It's horse salami, not donkey salami!

9:42 PM
have fun, y'all

@Kitḫ oop! sorry!

user19161
I think we should only have fish or chicken.

@JSBᾶngs Night!

cya @JSBngs

I gotta go in a bit too. Bunnies don't cook themselves, you know!
But I think I'll stay and complain just a little longer.
Snowstorm today.

9:44 PM
oh no!

Bunnies don't fall in the dish alone, too.

Snow day and not a work day for me anyway. pout

@Kitḫ did you get to stay home?
bummer

Yeah. Second time in three months that work has been cancelled on a day that I wasn't working anyway.
But, at least we get administrative holidays.
I mean, really, that's a huge perk.
Unfortunately, it doesn't qualify for comp time.
So I can't take a snow day on another day instead.
sigh

yeah. My teacher friend likes them too
@Kitḫ sigh better luck next time!

9:47 PM
Yo @Kit, can you spare a bar?

user19161
@MattЭллен I have been using your Good thinking in the other rooms.

@RegDwightѬſ道 Um. I'll do what I can before the boys get home.

user19161
@RegDwightѬſ道 Kit Kat bar?

@WillHunting glad to hear my little mind symbiote is spreading

9:48 PM
@RegDwightѬſ道 Mostly fear decks? Or was I just unlucky on the first one?

Q: Step 1 or step1 when referring to a step?

jcaWhen referring to a step, which one would be more correct between "see step 1" versus "see step1"?

user19161
Cheese and rice.

Cheese. Eech.

hiss

There's an ocarina in macaroni.

9:57 PM
There's a seche in cheese.
OK. Gotta go, later!

Seche?
Not in my dictionary ... what dictionary do I need?

the Kitionary

@MattЭллен A dictionary's place is in the Kition

Oh, Matt! I just read your blog article
Oh did you?
Yeah, it was great!
Why thanks :)
@MetaEd Well, how else are we to know what eggs are for?

@Kitḫ Ohai. I dunno. I used to run into wall stalls. But my last five battles were against Fear as well.

user19161
10:06 PM
@MattЭллен What is this monologue about? And it is your bedtime.

about the blog article I wrote
or what is the blog article about?
it's about a book I read

user19161
@MattЭллен It was a rhetorical question used as a prelude to some advice.

user19161
@RegDwightѬſ道 Sometimes the fear of fear is worse than fear itself.

user19161
@MetaEd OED aka online EL&U dictionary.

Unfortunately I do not have their wordlist. That would be nice ...

10:12 PM
Bah, and now that guy tries to support his point by quoting papers that do not support his point.

Q: Step 1 or step1 when referring to a step?

jcaWhen referring to a step, which one would be more correct between "see step 1" versus "see step1"?

See the comments.
I actually went and counted them.

"Seche" is not in the American wordlist or the Yet Another Word List.

user19161
@RegDwightѬſ道 OMG. Anyway I can understand why some authors might use step1 eg programming.

Of course. You can also name a function 1ySD632. Which is the reason why naming functions is off-topic.

@reg don't feed the trolls
Especially ones who don't listen. Like hhh. And this guy.

Q: Difference between 'into' and 'in to'

MrTWhat is the difference between 'into' and 'in to', and what are some correct/incorrect common usages?

14
Q: When should "into" be used rather than "in to," and vice versa?

Lord Torgamus"Into" (one word) and "in to" (two words) are frequently confused. In what situations should the former be used? The latter?

10:25 PM
Bed time. night all!

10:38 PM
Aaaand I'm out as well.

Q: Harassment and trolling in a chat room

QEDAfter an annoying discussion in chat I decided that I would delete my account. Please do that for me.

@simchona That saddens me.

@Mahnax I guess it's hard to comment without reading the chat log. But a mod can't know someone's medical history

@simchona A mod can't know that, nor can they be expected to know it.

@Mahnax and so I think the user overreacted. But I don't know if the mod was truly offensive because I can't read it

@simchona Yeah, maybe someone will say what happened, exactly.
