I originally editing to have the US spelling per meta.se guidelines, then realized the tag wasn't helpful and we'd already had our own meta about not having it, so I axed that.

user132126
I'm sure there's more tags that need trimming or help, but I didn't want to spam edit.

Really? Yours show 1352 and 1362... and mine are ... (refreshes the page)... well... NOW they're the same... how odd.

user132126
I think there's a sync-up delay, but otherwise they should be the same.

12:28 AM
I'm sure the calculations for both sites are not done at the same time. This very much applies: shouldiblamecaching.com
@CreationEdge I noticed you were missing :)

user132126
Nice site, lol

@CreationEdge You can never trust it.

user132126
Like any other site, then. ;)

user132126
12:56 AM
@Matt That Santa might be best fixed by throwing it in the bin ;)

user132126
The beard does look like drywall compound, though. Very interesting.

@CreationEdge If you knew me you would know I never through anything out. It just a little damaged. it's still good it's still good.
I also enjoyed writing the title. Wish we weren't in Private Beta for fun ones like that.

user132126
I was implying that it belongs in the trash, in good repair or not, lol.

Likely I will used mud. I figured though it is worth the question.
Ah. Not a Santa fan? Wife likes it so I attempt to salvage!

user132126
Santa is alright, but I'm generally not a fan of that type of art.

user132126
1:00 AM
I'm not sure what you'd call it. Primitive?

No idea what it is called. ..... ;)

user132126
What's with the tag? So confused.

user132126
Hmm. Not sure if that'd pass as primitivism, but naive art could be. No idea!

user132126
I'm not well versed in art classifications. I should study that, but... I should study a lot of things.

I was making a joke about a new tag addition.
naive art... seems like a slight to the amateur artist.
I never found abstract art, where painter slaps a brush around in the air, appealing.

user132126
1:07 AM
Me, either. Not from an artistic standpoint, anyway.

user132126
Some of them can be very aesthetically appealing, but it's just not my thing.

1:35 AM
There. I asked (and answered the one I could) two odd ball questions.

Howdy!

10:53 AM
@Kanth Just likes to pop in now and again.

@CreationEdge Howdy!
@Matt :D I actually log in only when I am in office. I have been so busy these days, so couldn't get time.
How is it going with you?

11:35 AM
Going to a painting class tonight with my wife. Going to paint cherry blossom trees.

4 hours later…
3:20 PM
Wow! I love that cherry trees painting. I always used to watch the online video tutorials on how to paint cherry tree or blossoms thinking that I am gonna paint that soon. @Matt
I would love to see yours once it is done.
What do you say?

3:40 PM
Yeah for sure. If I was going to share it online this would be the stack that cared more.

Before I get deeper into this chat chain, am I missing something: meta.crafts.stackexchange.com/a/160/52

:)

@Catija I am having a read now to understand the OP position.

3:59 PM
Finalizing my reponse but I have to go do something else first.
The first question is about creating displays which is not specific to selling or business so I agree that would be fine. The second is not centric to arts and crafts but selling goods in general and does nor really have an answer but a list of suggestions as to what to do. Have a returns policy and stick to your guns? Perhaps it is the fault of the product. It is a business question and not centric to arts and crafts.
It is a people factor question more than anything which I don't think has a good feel. The exporting question would be off topic as well. I agree with Catija on those points.

We're public!

What? Since when

Got the email there too
What does it take to get out of beta?

5:02 PM
in short: about 10 questions a day for 3 months ish. It is really up to SE to make that determination. Site will live regardless as long as there is not just spam coming in.

ah cool, that shouldn't be so hard

I hope not. We have a lot of ground we could cover. We need people is all. Good questions will draw then in.

Yeah I hope to participate more in the coming weeks...I'm particularly interested in graphite/dry media illustrations :3

5:53 PM
Well... really, it's all in flux. If Robert had his way, Beta would be much shorter (~3 months) and followed by a "full site" status that didn't require a site design... It was all discussed on MSE right before they graduated that huge chunk of sites. They haven't fully achieved that, I think... and some sites will never get all of the traditional "graduation" perks...
@Catija No, at about 90 days (TBD) a site would stop being labeled "in beta". Sites get the benefits of graduation when they graduate. Read the original post and then my comment again. There is a large middle class of sites that may never graduate at all. That doesn't mean they are eternally in "beta testing". That's what we have now — to anyone not reading this thread, "beta" sound like these sites are never finished, and that's not true at all. It's the unfortunate use of the label itself that is entirely wrong and misleading. — Robert Cartaino ♦ Jun 2 '15 at 18:08
^That entire topic is really useful and a must-read if you haven't.
There's also this question:
33
Q: Can Beta sites slated for graduation get full-site abilities without site design upgrade?

CatijaI respect the discussion about how much work goes into making a Beta site into a full site, particularly from the design perspective. From Robert Cartaino's answer: Sending a site to the "graduation queue" and getting a design published are currently two different things. We recently hired s...

Which led to the final implementation:

Q: Design-Independent Graduation is on for early September!

Like the title says, design-independent graduation will go into effect and become our new regular practice the second week of September! All sites which have been waiting in the backlog to graduate w...

6:28 PM
@Catija Not sure if you were influential in that decision regarding design and graduation but nice to see those changes regardless.

hi!

Hello

I finally have some more time for this site, woo

Questions and answers are welcomed either way!

@Matt Well, my question was linked in the "do we want design independent graduation" post. So, at the very least, it made them realize that this might be a thing :D

Q: Feedback Requested: Design-Independent Graduation

AnaLast month's announcement about our updated criteria for graduation and site closure sparked some solid examination into the intended nature of public beta and graduation. One thing these discussions showed us is that, contrary to what the Community Team had long believed, getting a custom desig...

Q: Can we please be added to the sites allowed to embed Youtube videos?

CatijaI don't know if Jeff's list has changed at all since this was written but... as a site where videos could do a lot to help with technique, I think it would be really useful to have YouTube video embedding turned on here. I do understand that it's relatively rare... if Jeff's list is correct, onl...

user132126
We're getting some more attention! I need to update my profile to link to the actual stack instead of Area 51

Yeah. I havent changed my profile in 2 years since I started on SO. I could use one that is more updated and one relevant to this stack as well.
@Catija Why did you not just add the tag to that meta yourself? Are you encouraging the OP to do it?

user132126
7:17 PM
There we go, updated. Keeping the advertising going.

@Matt I can't edit someone else's meta questions.

oh yeah... nvm

user132126
When does the room name get changed?

@CreationEdge When there's a room owner who can change it? I don't think this room has an owner right now...
Presumably, with mod powers will come ownership of this room and the ability to change the room name... what's the top voted one right now?

user132126
How did it get set initially? I need to look that up.

7:20 PM
The user Zizouz212 changed it when we started was my impression.

user132126
The Gallery and The Drawing Board are tied

"The Drawing Board"
Gallery came up more? how bout' that

I think "The Gallery" is better because it's not specific to an art form...

user132126
I like them both :)

Technically, "The Drawing Board" has more upvotes... it just also has more downvotes... not sure if that matters.

user132126
7:22 PM
My intent with TDB was not to be just drawing, but that we all plan our crafts, but many people seem to see that association

Drawing board feels right to me. I originally had a DV on it but I cant remove it without an edit.

user132126
I would pick The Gallery at this point, myself

"The Studio" isn't bad, either... I actually think it's a good option since "The Gallery" is about showing off finished work but "The Studio" is where you do the work on your projects.

So if there is a tie breaker do we mash them together to satisfy all? The Galling Board

Looks like "The Drawing Board" has been edited... Though I think we should wait to rename until it's been a while longer... input from private Beta users is good but it's a small group. If we give it another couple of weeks, it will give more users the chance to weigh in.
I'm going to see if Robert will make that Meta post featured.

user132126
7:28 PM
I edited both mine so people can change votes if necessary

user132126
@Catija Good idea

Yes. It should be featured. We have good momentum in chat and I would like to keep it.
There is no rush to change just yet 2 weeks should be good.

user132126
@Catija Yeah, not bad. But in a studio, I don't want to chat, I want to get work done!

user132126
We could get some other great suggestions yet

We could just wait a bit. More votes will let the community decide. Also..... we could change it down the road. It is not forever

7:30 PM
@CreationEdge Well, I don't want to chat in a movie theater, either... but M&TV opted for "The Screening Room" for their chat space :P

user132126
Unless it's like Mos Eisley, which is forever, lol

So long as someone doesnt suggest "Arty McArt Place" and it ends up getting traction

user132126
@Catija Is a screening room the same thing, though? Don't you discuss the movie then?

@Matt Nice reference.

user132126
I'm not a film major.

7:32 PM
@CreationEdge Not really... I mean, you're still there to watch the film... you may discuss afterwards... but it's 70%-30% watching to talking or so...

user132126
I like the scrolling chat footer in TSR. Very cool

@CreationEdge I like it too... some people think it's distracting.
I don't usually notice, to be honest.

I find it hard to pay attention to so many chats.

I lurk in about... five?

Q: Should pencil-shading be broken up into two tags?

Mattpencil-shading has been gaining some ground. A recent question How can I do the hatching shading technique properly? uses the tag, however, the content of the question talks about ink based shading as well. I really like the hatching technique especially with pens, or 'calligraphy pens' S...

user132126
@Catija I'm at about that, now.

Im off to dinner and painting with my wife. Will check in later and show you guys my "masterpiece"

8:24 PM
Have fun!

user132126
8:34 PM
@Catija lol at character tags

@CreationEdge I thought you might find that amusing.

user132126
I'm trying to come up with justifications for having such specific tags, but I can't.

user132126
So, I'm hoping others will, so I can see that view, at the very least.

user132126
Something like also worries me. I could see that being the #1 tag very easily, but it describes almost nothing.

With graphic arts, shading (as an example) is a major part of the process... I'd rather have than ... which seems too broad.
Um... resource requests??? Most sites ban them, don't they?

user132126
8:46 PM
@Catija Where'd this come up? Yeah, I believe resource requests are off topic across the whole exchange.

New question.

Q: Resources for Lost Wax Casting

Noach mi FrankfurtI'm currently planning a project to replicate something like this in bronze. This has prompted two questions: What resources are there for figuring out lost-wax casting on the internet or in libraries? Is there a list of active foundries which do lost-wax casting in the US?

Double whammy, list question and request for resources.

user132126
Yeah. Not sure what close reason to use.

Broad?

user132126
Yeah, I didn't find anything in the help center about it being specifically off topic (yet).

Well, we haven't had mods yet who can create them... Our "on topic" page is up to us. We might consider making a topic to compile on/off-topic subjects the way Cooking did... it looks really useful.
7
Q: What should our FAQ contain?

AaronutSince this is one of the 7 Essential Meta Questions of Every Beta... What should go in our FAQ? Most of the FAQ is boilerplate, but we need to determine the on-topic and off-topic subjects that go into that particular section of the official FAQ. Those should be derived from the original site ...

user132126
8:55 PM
That may be good idea. We've already had some questions about this, so we have certain things that could go in the FAQ already.

user132126
Do you want to make it? I think a copy and paste type deal would work great.

I'll try. If I don't do it in an hour, I won't be able to do it until tomorrow.

user132126
Okay. If not, I can try tonight, myself.

user132126
I'm looking at right now, though.

9:10 PM
I'll try... I have edit capabilities on Cooking.SE Meta... which means I can grab the code rather than having to re-create it...

9:31 PM
@CreationEdge Any thoughts about what the sample one should say?

user132126
You mean that intro paragraph in the block quote?

Actually, I just stole that from the Area 51 description... I mean lower down where it gives a sample and reads "Cooking & food preparation methods"

user132126
Maybe "Preparing materials to be worked with" ?

It's so much easier to come up with an off-topic one. :(
I also don't really want people to use this to discuss whether something is on topic or not... I think we should have separate topics for that and this should be a record of the major ones...

user132126
Yes, true

9:49 PM
Handmade arts and crafts technique questions
?
I posted it... feel free to muck with it if anything looks wrong.
Hey @Erica :D

user132126
@Catija Ah, yes, I'll need to work that in.

10:11 PM
Ugh. This guy in the Frying Pan keeps saying "bowel" instead of bowl. It's making me sick.

0
Q: What should our on-topic FAQ contain?

CatijaStolen from Cooking.SE - If you're unsure how this should look, check out their version, which has really great examples. It's generally a good idea to have a separate Meta question to reference that shows support for the subject or question type that you are saying is on or off-topic as moderato...

@Catija hi! :)

user132126
@Catija lol, that's funny.

Yes. He's eating bowels of soup. HA HA HA... but ewwww.

user132126
10:27 PM
What are the bowels of soup? Anything that sinks to the bottom of the broth?

I didn't even think of that definition. I'm stuck on bowels as in intestines.

user132126
So, a soup with tripe in it?

Q: A couple of awkward tag pairs

Rand al'ThorScanning the list of tags, I found a few that look as though they should be synonymised, merged, or otherwise dealt with: glues (6 questions; tag wiki excerpt: Questions about selecting and applying adhesive agents on your projects.) and adhesive (3 questions) should probably be synonyms. paint...
