Hey so what is multilib and why does someone want me to compile gcc without support for it?

7
Q: What does gcc without multilib mean?

Pranjal MittalI was trying to use the omh.h header file and I realized it was missing. I tried reinstalling gcc on my mac using brew. This is the message I got at the end of the installation. .. GCC has been built with multilib support. Notably, OpenMP may not work: https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi...

@Doorknob how did you find that so quickly

@mınxomaτ Nice.

@Doorknob interesting...

@ChrisJester-Young I've heard the term "multiarch" many times, but never "multilib." Are they just synonyms?

@mınxomaτ doesn't work in JavaScript ;-;

@Downgoat What did you expect?

2:03 AM
that it won't work in JavaScript...
but I had hope..

Everything should just use PCRE.

.NET regex is pretty boss though

regex is bad though

That is way false

@AlexA. Did you know it had a JavaScript mode? shudders

2:05 AM
it is slow, and usually native solutions are 1000000c faster
@mınxomaτ +1

@mınxomaτ what

@Downgoat If your pattern is wrong, yes.

@mınxomaτ no, even if they are good
regex is just slow by design

That's... not right

yes

2:05 AM
@Downgoat In JS. But native PCRE is fast.

Everything is slow in JS

@AlexA. JS is slow in JS

That's... true?

which is why you should use Cheddar

@mınxomaτ O____ಠ

@Downgoat Hey, the diamond said it.

2:09 AM
@Geobits it's not the room description yet though
I will consider it official once it becomes part of that

@AlexA. Tell the truth. Was that you that flew up to Sanders at the podium?

I love it.

does anyone know how to avoid this:
Parser.parse(Literal.Token);
Parser.jumpwhite();
Parser.jumpliteral(':');
Parser.jumpwhite();
Parser.parse(Literal.String);

@Downgoat That's part of being a mod. Like it says in the elections questions:
> A diamond will be attached to everything you say and have said in the past, including questions, answers and comments. Everything you will do will be seen under a different light. How do you feel about that?

@AlexA. Dennis is excusable because he's not from around here. Doorknob's just to young to know :P

:P
Well, but Dennis is German, as is minxomat, and minxomat knows Jerry Springer. Therefore all Germans should know Jerry Springer.

Well, quite a few years back, the kids network would switch to an adult program after 9PM. And that was usually some US-imported CrapTV - like JS.

2:24 AM
@AlexA. Oh right. By that logic, you know my neighbor. I'll say hi to him for you tomorrow.

Please do
I miss him
@mınxomaτ Jerry Springer == JS, but JavaScript == JS, therefore everything with the initials JS is garbage.

> Considerably nicer in high quality. Like your mum.

2:53 AM
I love how Wikipedia has a politely written page on "your mum" jokes.
A maternal insult (also referred to as a "yo mama" joke) is a reference to a person's mother through the use of phrases such as "your mother" or other regional variants, frequently used to insult the target by way of their mother. Used as an insult, "your mother..." preys on widespread sentiments of filial piety, making the insult particularly and globally offensive. "Your mother" can be combined with most types of insults, although suggestions of promiscuity are particularly common. Insults based on obesity, incest, age, race, poverty, poor hygiene, unattractiveness, or stupidity may also be used...

hahaha

> maternal insult

A bit of an understatement... "suggestions of promiscuity are particularly common."

@mınxomaτ I love how they quoted the Bible on that one.

if I have a language with optional typing, a function that accepts an Integer, and I pass it an untyped object, should it throw a compile time error? Should it perform a check on call to ensure its an integer? Or simply do duck-typing?

Do you overload functions?

3:45 AM
still undecided
but I think I'm going to do a check. Basically, if the type not defined, it'll add an implicit cast

@Doorknob: Is the phrase "when did you stop beating your wife" in reference to a "loaded question" a common thing? I like it, and was thinking of using it, but I don't want to use something foreign to the reader.

@ZachGates Somewhat common, though I would say for most purposes it's better to go with "loaded question" since it's a little less awful sounding.

Is there any other common phrase that catches the ear like that one?

do we accept in tips questions?

I think I actually did that on Mother Meta once. It was the official answer, so it made sense to accept it, but I did not agree with it at all...
@Optimizer Some tips questions have accepted answers, but I think it's a bit nonsensical.
@Optimizer I've removed my answer to that question. (FYI in case it was the reason that you didn't accept an answer.)

2:20 PM
Accepting an answer makes sense for the more one-off tips questions, as opposed to the compilation ones
Well, for some at least

Even for those questions where an accepted answer makes sense, I don't think we lose anything by disabling the accept button.

2 points of rep

Except rep and badges.

OK - I don't think we lose anything that makes a significant difference.

Meaning, two distinct rep gain spots, not two literal points of rep.
Although the one rep gain spot is literally two points of rep.
So, yeah.

2:28 PM
I think we're better off without either rep gain, and I'd prefer fewer badges to having badges that encourage something that doesn't fit.
Ideally we'd have replacement badges based on something else, but even if we can't I'd rather see these ones gone.
On a Q&A site, the accept button encourages everyone to give the most suitable answer they can. On a challenge site, the accept button discourages diversity in solution languages.
My personal irritation with the accept button comes from trying to sort the answers to a question and finding the accepted answer sticks to the top of the list regardless, but even if that was fixed I still wouldn't want the accept button to stay around.

Speaking of rep, do we have any news regarding the reputation change?

Yeah, Grace said it wasn't going to happen.

=(
Let's make our own rep system via greasemonkey or so^^

haha

oh god no

2:36 PM
Then a badge system and modified privilege system too...?

@flawr Let's make our own rep system via greasemonkey PayPal or so^^

UserScripts are the poor man's feature request

Grace Note did phrase it as "not unless it is network wide". Maybe we should push for it on Mother Meta and see if the rest of the network want to reward questions everywhere.

Q: Push Notification alternative for ionic push

user52525I am looking for quick and easy push notification service for my ionic ios/android app. i tried ionic push but it is not working.

lol, Ionic isn't native. wut

2:40 PM
@trichoplax what would be your reasoning that everybody should get it?

I doubt MSE will take kindly to that kinda feature request

@Quill I expect you're right :)

@zyabin101 wut

@NathanMerrill Along the lines of "this would work for us, so how about the other 100 or so of you make the change for your site too...?"

2:42 PM
@NathanMerrill "C'mon .... "

of course. If something works for 1 site, it works for every site

Unless someone can make the pitch for changing PPCG's rep system really clear and understandable by an outsider, it'll just get flooded with DVs

More seriously, I would prefer a vote to count for the same amount of rep regardless of whether it's a question or answer (on any site). But the MSE post would have to be unrelated to PPCG in order to be taken seriously.

@Quill New Main Posts was too late and posted an already closed question. v_v

it posts closed questions normally
it just doesn't post deleted questions

2:45 PM
I can't see it happening though. Even if people agree that it would have made more sense that way when creating SO, there doesn't seem a strong enough reason to create a big change network wide now.

But, New Main Posts has to post all the new main posts.
So I can't do anything to it.

@trichoplax it would majorly change how things work on SE, I doubt the StackOverlords would be happy to do recalculations like that

It would be fun if you could trade your rep against swag=)

@Quill Indeed. I'm glad we asked but it doesn't seem worth pushing further.

@Quill Stackoverlords?

2:47 PM
@Quill "Stack Overlords". I like it - we should use that more often

10 rep per question upvote was the initial configuration by the way.

I still don't know what to program for zyabinVI :/

@Dennis Really? Was it the same for answers too back then?

And there were no contributions for 10 days.

@trichoplax It wouldn't be as bad if it were just PPCG and Puzzling, but it would still be a painful transition
Rep isn't necessarily a value, it's a result

They could recalculate them

Q: Should the weight of question upvotes be reduced?

Jeff AtwoodAfter thinking about Should the weight of downvotes be increased? which I declined for the reasons specified in my answer, and Please charge rep for questions after threshold I have a proposal. @Dennis Interesting - thank you. At least they didn't go with the proposed zero rep for questions...

I think Shog did up a SEDE query to recalculate users rep after value recalculation

@trichoplax That would have been fatal for PPCG, yeah.

Australia is a Cuban village and consejo popular ("people's council", i.e. hamlet) of the municipality of Jagüey Grande, Matanzas Province. The village is named after the factory, the Central Australia, which like others in the area were named after continents.
