9:00 PM
I'm considering running.

@mbomb007 Currently writing up my nomination.

27 mins ago, by Doorknob
Oh yeah, I have to write my nomination
27 mins ago, by Doorknob
I totally didn't forget to do that

@Dennis Hm. After adding it, it still fails with a "no metadata found" error when trying to install something.

Which URL are you using?

9:07 PM
http://download.mono-project.com/repo/centos-beta/
The main URL from the YMP for openSUSE (http://download.mono-project.com/repo/centos/) also fails.

I tried, and sudo zypper in mono-core would have installed the new version if it didn't require a vendor change.
Which package are you trying to install?

Actually, that link is exactly the same as the image as the one in the other challenge. ಠ_ಠ — CoolestVeto 14 secs ago

@Dennis mono-complete. The "default" mono-complete for openSUSE is severely outdated.

@mınxomaτ mono-complete doesn't work on RPi.
Like, at all.

@CoolestVeto That statement contains not enough information. What distro? What mono version does it install?

9:12 PM
Wait, when did the election start?

@mınxomaτ Raspbian Wheezy.

@mınxomaτ It should update automatically, but try running sudo zypper up before the install command.

I have no idea which version.

@CoolestVeto It works if you install it properly. Debian packages for mono are even more outdated than SUSE's :D

@mınxomaτ send help

9:14 PM
@CoolestVeto ?

I've looked up how to do it.

I didn't think the election would be so soon...

@CoolestVeto Add PGP key, add wheezy deb repo, update and then install?

All the mono pages include adding some repo source lists (which didn't work) and just "getting it normally".
@mınxomaτ Tried, failed, cried.

@AquaTart Me neither.

9:15 PM
@CoolestVeto That works 100%. Sorry, but you're doing something wrong.

@mınxomaτ ;-;
I follow the directions on the mono page, yeah?
'Cause that's what I did.

@CoolestVeto You said that "adding" failed. Which is impossible, cause it's just a file operation.
But it is impossible to help without knowing what error you got :D

Hold on. Lemme get the error message (I was actually doing that this morning. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
Semi-ninja'd?

FULLY NINJA'ED OR BUST!!!!

Does the site let you save drafts of nominations?

9:20 PM
I'll test
Oh, can I not nominate others?

@Rainbolt are you thinking of running?
@Rainbolt nope...
:(

Well I'll start drafting a nomination for myself and then leave the page, to see if it saves
Sorry guys if I accidentally run for office
(And even more sorry if I get elected)
Your draft is not saved @SuperJedi224

pi@vtcpi:~ $ sudo apt-get install -fy mono-complete
Reading package lists... Done

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 mono-complete : Depends: mono-devel (= 4.2.3.4-0xamarin2) but it is not going to be installed
@mınxomaτ
I've followed those back - they start looping in dependencies.

However, if you nominate yourself, withdraw, and then begin to nominate yourself a second time, it will recall what you wrote. (@SuperJedi224)

@CoolestVeto Uhm, you just started the install. Where are you adding the repo?

9:25 PM
I already added the keys as specified here.

@CoolestVeto I mean creating the mono-xamarin.list

pi@vtcpi:~ $ ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d/
mono-xamarin.list  raspi.list

What exact debian version is this?

Oh, right.
I have a spliced OS.

Q: I spliced Raspbian and Kali by accident... should I be worried?

VoteToCloseSo, I recently got a Raspberry Pi. I installed Raspbian Wheezy on it immediately, got it all set up with SSH and VNC, and ready to go. One day I decided that it would be a brilliant idea to install Kali on it (friend had suggested it for whatever reason; I later decided against for obvious reason...

I installed Raspbian.

@Dennis I'm currently resetting the server to a clean install and will try again.

9:30 PM
But I installed that thing. >.>

@mınxomaτ Are you trying on 13.2 or 42.1?

13.2

I really question the suggester's intent. >.>

You should use ALARM.
;-)

Waddat?

9:31 PM
Arch linux for ARM

These are some relaxing gifs:

@mınxomaτ Eh. If there was a simpler way to install that, I'd probably get it.

Also, I'm currently adding turtle graphics to ForceLang.

@CoolestVeto Also this questions contains quite a lot of noise.

That moment when you have exactly the maximum amount of characters in a post.

9:35 PM
@mınxomaτ I'm bad about that.
Plus, Kali is really suspicious. D:
I don't like that.
/me does a dist-upgrade.

/me watches as you format and reinstall in frustration

/me cri
The only libs that were updated because of the dist change was pypy.
O.o
Ohhhhh geez.
I just rebooted from ssh.

9:50 PM
We need a new mod with some good memes.

@Dennis OK, that worked. How can I ignore cert errors while doing a zypper install (ie. answer all cert questions automatically with i(gnore)?

For third-part repos, you kinda have to when you update for the first time. After that, a certificate error should make you suspicious.

That's the error I get. The command was sudo zypper install -l -n git gcc mono-complete.

OK, if mono doesn't sign its packages, you'll have to ignore it.

Well, it is the beta repo, those might not be signed.

10:00 PM
Possible.

Well, goodbye for now

10:29 PM
ಠ_ಠ dist-upgrade fixed nothing.

Stop using apt-get

/me passes a magnet over the microSD.

It's crap

Whoops.
@BernardMeurer wow
Such negative.

I'll purge it's existence

10:30 PM
Much wow.

Even if I die in the process I'll take apt-get with me

Back to Arch @mınxomaτ

In computer science, the shunting-yard algorithm is a method for parsing mathematical expressions specified in infix notation. It can be used to produce output in Reverse Polish notation (RPN) or as an abstract syntax tree (AST). The algorithm was invented by Edsger Dijkstra and named the "shunting yard" algorithm because its operation resembles that of a railroad shunting yard. Dijkstra first described the Shunting Yard Algorithm in the Mathematisch Centrum report MR 34/61. Like the evaluation of RPN, the shunting yard algorithm is stack-based. Infix expressions are the form of mathematical notation...

@El'endiaStarman oh yeah

10:32 PM
@BernardMeurer ALARM is great and will fix all his problems. Forever.

Is there a way to see your candidate score without posting something?

There's an SEDE query.

I think there's a SEDE query
ninja'd

@mınxomaτ ALARM?

10:33 PM
Here I'll dig it up for you

@BernardMeurer archlinuxarm.org

If I get below a 9 I'm not even going to try

@mınxomaτ Oooooh, that's what you're referring to

10:34 PM
He's on a Raspberry Pi?

@BernardMeurer Yes

@mınxomaτ Arch on the RPi runs like a baby

I've used alarm on my Toshiba AC100 for more than 4 years now. Never had a problem.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Candidate scores don't say a lot about the candidate TBH.

10:34 PM
(ARMv7h).

I wouldn't let them discourage you.

@AquaTart I know, but it's certainly a factor.

@AquaTart Says the 14/40 :P

That can't be right, I have 17

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Mortarboards count quite a bit.

10:36 PM
@mınxomaτ It's a shame though because Debian is pretty good for stability
But apt is bleh

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ: In any case, you have a higher candidate score than I do. I'm still contemplating nominating myself though.

@AquaTart So isn't it possible to go over 40 then?

No.

@El'endiaStarman I would vote for you.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Therefore, go ahead and nominate yourself. :P

10:38 PM
@El'endiaStarman But then we'd have the (forgot-his-name) effect: the votes would be distributed and (neither/none) of us would win.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ SE uses the STV system, which doesn't really have that problem.

@El'endiaStarman "STV"?

Single transferable vote

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Must.. resist.. to.. make... Trump joke.

10:39 PM
@mınxomaτ That would be yuge m8
@AquaTart o okai

@MartinBüttner Are you working on your nomination?

please say yes

How the first Christianity.SE election went. (It's a visualization and explanation of the STV process as well.)
Of all four candidates who were elected, I had the fewest first-pick votes.

@AquaTart there's no rush, is there? ;)

@MartinBüttner Nah, not really.
Just curious
I'm sure it'll be a 1200 char masterpiece

10:47 PM
@El'endiaStarman Did testimony play a part of the elections?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Not that I'm aware of.

Can candidates post questions for the Election Q&A?
I assume so

Well yeah, why not?

"How am I a great person?" "I'm better than you, that's why!"
--Aqua Tart Q&A, 2020.

What?
I didn't think I said that unless my eyesight is poorer than I thought

This election is pretty much going to be settling for the fourth mod. >_>

<_<

> In difficult situations, I prefer to smooth things out by calmly discussing both sides of an argument.
Why not all the time?
;)

true... fixing...

Your nomination poster is sending mixed messages.

10:56 PM
that one?

yeah

Dat -1.

> too long by 10 characters
ಠ╭╮ಠ
I have to golf my nomination apparently...

Had an interesting talk with some of The Whiteboard folks about PPCG's scope

@AquaTart The Whiteboard?

11:02 PM
Programmers SE chat.

oh

I feel like our relations with other SE sites are a little poor because of our unusual scope and various incidents (StackEgg for instance)

that is true, but StackEgg was a while back and we've changed for the better, since

Sure, but not everyone stalks our meta. A lot of those better changes have happened recently
It seems like our most popular questions are underhanded popcons and such, which I dislike. They really aren't our finest moments :P
And the biggest problem people have with us seem to be golfing languages.

@Downgoat Same haha. too long by 3 chars

11:05 PM
I used a link shortener, that helped...

Thoughts on the new iPhone SE? Clearly named after StackExchange

@AquaTart My response to those people would be "If you ban golfing languages, suddenly there's a new class of languages that will be the shortest. Then you ban the next shortest languages, and the next, and the next, until all you have left is Java and C#. "

Do you guys think it would be a good idea for us to make a Greatest Achievements of PPCG meta post (or at least list), not for anything special or something, but just to see opinions.

I think CR has something similar to that.

@Rainbolt Ban the golfing languages and Minkolang shall reign supreme! MUAHAHA!!!

11:08 PM
Sounds OK.

11:18 PM
@mbomb007 you might have to wait until tomorrow for my nomination :P Got a lot of other stuff to do today

@AquaTart not really
we have "best posts of the year"
but you guys have that too
I take the PPCG election more seriously than Australia's and the US' election

copy paste failure. nice

@Quill Loki is a fellow Seattleite!

@Dennis Solved all my issues and updated the Mono documentation. Time to uninstall SUSE and never use it again :P

@AlexA. yeah. I had something copied from last night, and failed the paste

@mınxomaτ One time I trashed an openSUSE VM because it was installing updates and it didn't tell me that it wasn't done (there was no indication that anything was happening) so I shut down the VM. It never turned back on.

11:28 PM
@Quill Wait until someone wants to build a wall between us and CR ಠ⌣ಠ

Alright guys, I made a google form to see what the community views are our greatest accomplishments. Here it is:

haha. are you running @mınxomaτ

lolno
I'd probably have -1 from 40 of these mod point thingamajigs.

@GamrCorps A game-changing event in our history: Graduating. :P

@AlexA. Well, yes, that definitely counts. :P

11:43 PM
@ZachGates that's exactly what I thought too :P

What's next, the iPhone 6 SO? Then 6 CR? Then 6 PPCG? This is an outrage!

@AlexA. I do not see what's wrong with an iPhone PPCG

Two messages with avatars "green +1" and "red -1" together. Will they cancel out?
