In the following question the used style mla for biblatex causes the error I think. Because if you change it to author-year the \footcite command compiles and works as wanted. But I do not know the style biblatex-mla. Could it be it is faulty?
I have used the package
\usepackage[style=mla,babel=hyphen,backend=biber]{biblatex}
This is my ref.bib file

@Kurt Several drivers are missing for footnotes, other stuff is going on as well. On the other hand, the input is faulty as well. Who uses misc with biblatex? And what the hack is journal = {git repo}? I would say off-topic due to package bug, but let's wait for other opinions.
@Johannes_B Well, if I understood it correctly, the purpose is to make some notes an some articles, perhaps as a LaTeX scratchpad/summary ... that's not really evil ;-) I've not looked into the template however
\NewDocumentCommand{\DeclareAssociatedCounters}{O{}mm}{% \clist_if_in:cnTF{\__g_xassoccnt_mastercontainer:}{#2}{% % Not contained in the driver counter list \AddAssociatedCounters[#1]{#2}{#3}% }{% % Check first if there is a potential cross association \__g_xassoccnt_masterputright:m {#2} \__g_xassoccnt_masterremoveduplicates: \__g_xassoccnt_drivernewlist:m{#2} \AddAssociatedCounters[#1]{#2}{#3}% }% }
@JosephWright: I know that I don't need % unless really commenting ;-)
I have been using texmaker at home for a few days, the usb pocket version, and I have had no problems. I have used it away from home for the first time today, and it can't publish pdfs
I have read heaps of things online, and nothing has helped
First two pages of google results for a few different queries
**One error**: Could not start the command. pdflatex -synctex=1 -interaction=nonstopmode %.tex
@Johannes_B Two questions if I am not being too annoying, will this work fine with Texmaker, and is the small-scheme good enough, I don't really use packages
Does anybody know if the names for the unicode symbols are copyrighted? I would like to copy them to my database (e.g. for usage here write-math.com/unicode/?minUnicode=8592&maxUnicode=8703 or in the search). (@barbarabeeton?)
@JosephWright Well, if it's not a coincidence, I'm really upset.
I may (with some difficulty) understand that in the past some voting pattern could have been “suspicious”. But making this into a rule saying “all votes from user A to user B are illicit without any further judgment” is not what I'm expecting.
@egreg Like I say, we don't know what the approach is, we an only speculate based on the cases of reversal where we can piece together the people involved
I think the serial voting check algorithm is harassing me: I got six “Voting corrected” messages in my reputation tab in the last seven days.
This had no apparent effect on my overall rep, but it's very annoying to know that voting for my answers will be invalidated for obscure reasons.
I can't...
@moose -- i presume you mean the names that are printed all uppercase in the unicode charts? i know that the glyphs used in the charts are fully off limits; this is stated clearly in the page that precedes every chart on line (see unicode.org/charts and pick any one at random; acrobat reader will display the first page of the chart, but back up a page and you'll find the copyright boilerplate). but i didn't see anything about the names. (cont'd)
@barbarabeeton Yes, I mean the names written in uppercase
What does "fully off limits" mean? I guess you refer to "You may freely use these code charts for personal or internal business uses only. You may not incorporate them either wholly or in part into any product or publication, or otherwise distribute them without express written permission from the Unicode Consortium. However, you may provide links to these charts". - Does that mean I may not allow people to search by unicode ranges (like http://write-math.com/unicode/?min=8592&max=8703)?
(cont'd) @DavidCarlisle may know. checking further, i find the "terms of use" at unicode.org/copyright.html and there is a section there ("exhibit 1") that appears to cover the data files. there's a copyright notice that may be required, but it looks to me that with proper attribution, there would be no problem with using the non-font (that is, the explicit fonts used in the unicode charts themselves) information in the way you describe. (cont'd)
(cont'd) read the "terms of use", please. if you have concerns, and can compose a really clear description of how you would like to use the information, i'll be happy to pass it on to my contact on the utc. but certainly, i can't envision any limit on your ability to allow people to search on unicode ranges -- that's one of the things that this code was intended for.
Playing with pandoc, just trying to convert a markdown file using pdflatex. I'm getting an error that lmodern.sty not found, but I can't find any reference to an lmodern package in TeXLive.
@moose -- understanding legal documents in any language isn't easy for most native speakers of the language. (i think they're intended to be slippery.)
That's what I thought. So why would TeXLive be telling me that it can't find it? I've been compiling other tex documents, so I'm not sure how to replicate the problem without panic.
@moose you could always use unicode.xml from github.com/w3c/xml-entities under w3c open software licence, and then let someone else (me:-) worry about interfacing to unicode.org (@barbarabeeton)
@JosephWright Yep, This is what I get for having two LaTeX installations, Mac-TeX (which I use for everything) and pkgsrc, which I should remove. My path found it in pkgsrc first.
@DavidCarlisle Nice, thank you! I've also wondered what would be the best way to get the names of symbols. Your unicode.xml is just what I was looking for :-)
I am Paulo.
I am the top voter of the entire StackExchange universe. And I believe I fit the description of being a serial upvoter. It is my OCD. I like to upvote, it is one of my favourite hobbies and the way I found to help this community.
First things first: reputation does not mean anything...
@PauloCereda I am not a frequent voter, but I spread my votes and no more than 3 votes for the same user a day ... not that I've just upvoted thrice for a very special guy :D
Update: Let us add a question, so it looks like a meta thread: can my votes be valid, please? :) I don't think I should be considered a robot. Also, the other questions about voting reversals are not totally covered and explained by the SE staff, I think we need some clarification to both ends: serial voters and affected users.
@PauloCereda: I was already a victim of serial downvoting twice and twice of serial upvoting... all got reverted ... but strangely enough, the badges remained
@ChristianHupfer I had a little argument with a user about packaging all stuff into one central place for reuse, and we all know where this leads to. Now we have a poll on Templates.
@Johannes_B Don't despair... you're like Don Quixote fighting wind mills ... I've stopped recently to convince other people of other ways and I feel much better right now... If people publish rubbish cv versions (regardless whether they are made with ... *ord or LaTeX ... let them pursue their way until they got their reward (auf gut Deutsch: Auf die Fresse fliegen ;-))
I would like to create a remotely accessible, centralized .bib bibliography on GitHub that I can use in my .Rnw and .tex files in various directories. It would also make it easier to collaborate and decrease files in constant transit amongst collaborators. As an aside, I am more familiar with wor...
@Kurt If the name doesn't autocomplete when you type @ then the system won't ping. you have to have been here recently to receive them. If you comment on the question then @-completion and ping will work.
Top by votes on a single site; counting network-wide, Ward and Gilles are ahead. And unlike yours, their votes are meaningful. — Mice Elf46 mins ago
@MiceElf: Thanks for the feedback. :) Could you expand a little on how their votes differ from mine? Do you believe I upvote wrong answers or is my method wrong? By the way, I also upvoted your answer to a question in this site (of course, other answers and the question itself). :) — Paulo Cereda2 mins ago
@JosephWright: actually, remove those two, please. ^^ I don't want to be a troll. :(
@MiceElf I would like to kindly ask you to get to understand the positive culture of this site before trying to destroy it. Thank you very much. — yo'29 secs ago
Our Lady of Aparecida (Portuguese: Nossa Senhora Aparecida or Portuguese: Nossa Senhora da Conceição Aparecida [ˈnɔsɐ siˈɲɔɾɐ dɐ kõsejˈsɐ̃w ɐpɐɾeˈsidɐ]) is a celebrated 18th-century clay statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the traditional form associated with the Immaculate Conception. The image is widely venerated by Brazilian Catholics, who consider her as the principal patroness of Brazil. Historical accounts state that the statue was originally found by three fishermen who miraculously caught many fish after invoking the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The statue is currently housed in the Basilica of...
@PauloCereda October 12 is also important for my church: on October 12, 1576 an image of the Virgin Mary was taken in procession to our church from its former site (it's a fresco that used to be under a porch); the story says that two important men in the town, a high priest and a high civil official, saw Mary in a dream and she told them to take the image to the church of Carmelites so the plague would end.
@PauloCereda We had a small procession today. In 1976 we had big celebrations for the 400th anniversary; on October 17 the high mass was celebrated by the Patriarch of Venice Albino Luciani, to became pope two years later.
@PauloCereda The same plague cost the life of the great painter Tiziano and as a thanksgiving for the end of it the church of Redentore was built in Venice.
The Chiesa del Santissimo Redentore (English: Church of the Most Holy Redeemer), commonly known as Il Redentore, is a 16th-century Roman Catholic church located on Giudecca (island) in the sestiere of Dorsoduro, in the city of Venice, Italy.
It was designed by the architect Andrea Palladio and built as a votive church to thank God for the deliverance of the city from a major outbreak of the plague. Located on the waterfront of the Canale della Giudecca, it dominates the skyline of the island of Giudecca. It is a member of the Chorus Association of Venetian churches and contains a number of paintings...
@PauloCereda Great man! Pope John XXIII is said to have told a cardinal who had doubts about making Luciani a bishop, because of his bad health, “well, so he'll die as a bishop”.
@PauloCereda Anything made by Palladio is. One of the greatest architects ever.
@EnthusiasticStudent I have two cats. I believe that if you keep them vaccinated and observe their behaviours, nothing bad can happen. Unless, of course, if you have some sort of allergy triggered by, say, the fur. :)

@EnthusiasticStudent @PauloCereda My brother's sister-in-law, who lives next door to him and shares the garden, has got a cat and a dog: they're very young and play together all the time.
@PauloCereda we have a similar term for shillelagh in Persian, which is something that horse riders use when they want their horse to run faster. In English I think it is called whip.
@PauloCereda In Persian, whip's synonym is pronounced "Shallaagh" with stress on ll. And aa like u in umbrella. See? It's very similar to that shillelagh which you used.

@PauloCereda Nice white things on your sofa and table. Are they handmade?
@UlrikeFischer That is what I know, yes. And the other saying: the first quoted question with biblatex, natbib and alpha is a solution in my eyes or am I wrong?
@PauloCereda After graduating from university, this is my first time that I want to work. Specifically in a job in the field that I studied at university... an Engineering work. I am so afraid of having mistakes in my work...
@Kurt They were so nice... But I really afraid of failure.
@Kurt I am sure I will do my best (when I was a student, I was really hardworking in my studies and courses I had to pass)... the rest depends on my real capabilities and the employer's preferences... Unfortunately I have very low self-confidence.
Sometimes students asked me how to write the cv or how to do an interview and sometimes I gave a course writing cvs and preparing the interview. If an interview brings not the job see it as a practice, reflect the day and rethink what you could do better next time. Practice helps, yoou will see ;-)
@EnthusiasticStudent No, I prefer to work on the real cv of the students (in LaTeX). What to do depends onthe life story and the company. And to get a little bit practice we play the situation of interview or be tested with questions ... Also it depends on the country (german cv differ to english one).
@EnthusiasticStudent For example the content, German cv needs a photo, and you have to add special informations not needed in english cvs. Sometimes German companys want an english cv with german content ...
@EnthusiasticStudent For example I was invited to join a company, but while the interview I had a realy bad feeling and decided to not join them. A friend joined the company and told me about his time there. Not good, my feeling was right. So what I mean, hear to your feeling.
@Kurt I always have the fear of failure and error in my work... Also, I am a little worried about other workers being much stronger in their work and knowledge.
