Q: Draw a map from encoded polylines

BXLI'm using the google maps web services service to find a route. From the json response I parse it encoded polylines and store it on coordinates String. Then, coordinates is passed as parameter to decoded function, which gives a list of {Latitude,Longitude}. The rest of the code is related to buil...

Q: Should this class be created by a factory or builder or?

JasonI have a session class that needs to be setup based on different needs of the client code. Sometimes a new session needs to be created, or continued, or resumed (loaded from database after a user has saved their progress and came back). Right now the client code has to ALWAYS execute Start(), Co...

Q: Simple number theory game, pt. 3

ChrisMore refactoring based your guys' great feedback. This time around I worked on using global/local variables properly and efficiently, putting return values to use, renaming variables so that the code is more understandable, and simplifying functions so that they serve one main purpose. My main c...

Why do you have Uplay?
The only reason to have it is to play Far Cry 3 or 4
need it for the new Splinter Cell Games I bought by Humble Bundle and FC 3
@Vogel612 Remember that you are dealing with Ubisoft ;)
Uplay is a bit anoying though, it's too small to matter, but too big to be able to avoid
I also have a 30 GB windows.old I can't properly delete, because Microsoft is being a pain
because as admin I am not SYSTEM or TrustedInstaller..
rm -r /windows.old
17:12
Did you open the cmd prompt as admin?
@Vogel612 it's supposed to delete itself after 60 days IIRC
@skiwi that'd be rmdir ...
@Mat'sMug 60 days should be over..
and it's taking up space on my boot drive.
Can you try to change the security policy?
I think you only need to be an administrator for that
17:16
manual tree culling
then change perms
because that takes unreasonably long
That
Permissions
it took 12 minutes for my change to propagate through the whole folder.
can't you just run disk cleanup?
I'll clean the tree, then it should get faster.
3.2 GB "SoftwareDistribution" ... wat
17:19
@Mat'sMug oh, no, you didn't?
mostly since there's no checkmark involved yet
that answer made me remember how badly I hate VB
I think hjk might steal mine, though
@Vogel612
17:21
@JeroenVannevel
Just run disk cleanup and press the "clean system files" or something button
then you get to that screen
notice the 4GB old installation files
@Mat'sMug lol, good answer though. but I am still right, right?
(It's only 4GB because I reinstalled win8.1 first before upgrading to win10)
ah
above that there is also a checkbox "Previous Windows Installations"
that one is 17GB in my scenario. Not sure how or why, but it's there
@JeroenVannevel do you have to reinstall visual studios and stuff like that?
@JeroenVannevel doesn't show up for me...
17:23
They're old files
@Malachi I'm not sure what you mean with that answer, but yeah an explicit rollback isn't needed IMO
except OP has so many other problems than that!
Your VS is installed on the new OS.
maybe because I already've been culling significant amounts..
that code isn't pretty, that is for sure.
starting with
Inherits System.Web.UI.UserControl
17:23
@Vogel612 you have to press the "clean system" button or something like that after opening disk cleanup for the first time
like, WTF is data access doing in a UI control
3
I mean that he should be letting the SQL Server do the querying and rolling back...
hmm... that seems more effective
@Mat'sMug well... you know..
JSP has a taglib... s. for SQL...
8GB temporary installation files..
@Malachi again, I'm not following. "let the server do the querying" doesn't make much sense.
Okay culling in progress, I'll be off for dinner / general food :D
17:25
an SqlCommand sends a command to the db server, which does the querying
Did you check the "Previous windows installations" box as well?
that one should be bigger
@Vogel612 No dinner?
eh, lunch time
@Jeroen It's only 4GB left after I went rampant in there
The OP is trying to catch the SQL Error and then tell the SQL Server to roll back the Transaction, which was created by the VB code
looks like the OP is trying to do the Database's work.
17:29
But there's usually no need to roll back. A trx that gets disposed uncommitted, gets rolled back anyway
OP should init trx, do work, and commit -- all in a try block; if an exception is thrown, trx is not committed
But his reusing of disposables is a bigger problem

And then wonder why my query has unpredictable results.

@IsmaelMiguel since you were asking what I need uplay for:

@Vogel612 where's CoD?
@Mat'sMug I don't play CoD
also there's another row above that
Anno, AC III, FC 3, Rainbow 6 III Gold
@Mat'sMug Which CoD do you play, and for what device?
If it's one of the uneven ones, you lose my respect
be warned
18:18
haven't played in a long, long while (gosh, I think it was before the kids), but I played them all, up to MW3, on xbox360
Ah, I only play MW2/3, and Advanced Warfare on PC.
I play Battlefield 3/4 on PC as well.
I have read this on the phone only, but it could be a candidate for migration to CR:

The weeks won't count for a while
I hope to be proven wrong
well the deal was to have the elections with 4 seats, and re-evaluate for a 5th one some 6-8 weeks after, once the new mods settled in. That's exactly what happened.
