Q: What are the guidelines to follow when answering homework questions?

Can someone let me know how to answer an homework question.(like say, someone is asking how to do a specific calculation sum.Is it against the guidelines to show the whole working in the answer?) Please can someone let me know all the guidelines that should be followed.
