Q: Alarming number of questions (related)

MikeyRelated to the alarm about a large number of edits... I want to ask a second question in the last five minutes. Would that be considered rude? Hypothetically, what if I asked 35 questions tonight, which floods out / pushes down other peoples'? Would this be considered rude or abusive with the...

Q: Idea Generation in Help

bilbo_pingouinWe usually agree that idea generation questions should be avoided, as per here. However I had the feeling that we used to have a more explicit statement about it in the help section.... but I can't seem to find it anymore. Was it removed? Is so, why? Is my impression wrong and there never was su...

Apparently, a lot of link to the SE blog are not working : meta.worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/a/523/147 this on for example: blog.stackexchange.com/2010/09/good-subjective-bad-subjective

What do you mean they are not working?
@Vincent I tried all the links on that post, and they all work for me...

1:27 PM
@bilbo_pingouin Ha, it's working now.

Q: Limits of the human body series

JamesSo I started a series yesterday, that seemed like a good idea at the time. The limits of human biology: atmospheric tolerances (#1) My plan was/is to create a series (I have a few in mind and I am sure more will come up from other people) Atmospheric Tolerances Temperature tolerances Energy c...

Would it be relevant/interesting/useful (pick the one you prefer) to create a wiki/blog with a list of some "classic" questions?
The idea would be to help wannabe creators to get started, like the OP of that question on writers writers.stackexchange.com/questions/18309/…

@bilbo_pingouin We were actually working on a blog to do something like this but I've been slow to get anything done...

@James oh? I see. Sorry, missed that info :-)

@bilbo_pingouin No biggie, AoC was the main coordinator on that.
@ArtOfCode Hey, pay attention, we are talking about you
I've actually lost track of the info for it...would you kindly post the links and whatnot AoC?

3:45 PM

@Vincent Thanks. Is it me, or there's only one post..?

@bilbo_pingouin Yes, the first and only article had me puzzled over the goals of the blog. I mean it is about world-building because it talk about the galaxies and galaxies are part of the universe but... It could serve as an introduction (with links) to more detailed articles (for example).
@ArtOfCode Do you know how many people visited the blog?

@Vincent Yes, I had more in mind something with references to actual questions and answers given on WB:SE
kind of a summary of how to start, and with the minimum info to read

@bilbo_pingouin Some kind of workflow?

@Vincent In a way yes... more like, you want to create a world? Here are some questions you should consider... time/bla bla bla. And then, you want something about religion, look there, something about weapons, there, etc.
trying to gather most generic Q&A with themes

3:58 PM
That would make a great article, or several maybe.

@bilbo_pingouin Certainly a worthy endeavor.

some days ago, @HDE226868 suggested to make a series of question about map making. So gather all those kind of series, and summarise them

@bilbo_pingouin about History

indeed, sorry
but you still get the idea

map making is also a good subject

4:00 PM
it is

I think the blog is probably the best route to go for creating how-to guides, that or we can work something into the tag wiki's, maybe create a getting started with world building tag

@bilbo_pingouin ha your were right on that one meta.worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/a/1905/147

blog or wiki pages are probably a good way to go, I can see a few examples: choose your world, give it some geography, give it a past, which races?, how to organise the society, etc.
@Vincent what about it?

''Getting started'' feels like a meta tag and tehse aren't well received usually, maybe a community question/answer like HDE question on planets?

I also think it defeats the Q&A format of SE's main form. But SE hosts some blogs/wikis... I don't know if it would be possible to get some pages there

4:05 PM
@bilbo_pingouin We had the contest on map making, a suggestion by HDE, so your right, he did suggest the idea. That's all

@Vincent ah ok. I think he mentioned the history thing, when we were in the map-making challenge, that is probably the reason for my earlier confusion :-)
Anyway, I have to leave for some time. Read you later :-)

Q: Are discussion oriented questions authorized?

EphasmeI read this question: Cliche world - Who would you be and why? And I wondered if it were okay. Can we authorize questions which lead to discussions?

5:46 PM
@James was out at work
Blog, yes
This thing. If you want to be added as a contributor, I need an email address or WP username.

6:07 PM
@ArtOfCode can you detail a bit more what is the approach of the blog? As you might read above (chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/22961892#22961892), @Vincent already gave the link. Then I tried to explained a concept I had in mind. How does that fit with "your" blog? :-)

6:27 PM
@bilbo_pingouin There is no approach - there's not much happening there
Try out whatever you like, as far as I'm concerned - I'm just curating for the community.

@bilbo_pingouin @Vincent tag wikis can be good places for this, too -- worldbuilding-process, history, map-making all have tags. I've seen a couple really extensive tag wikis (from SO I think) that are basically "one-stop shopping for this topic". And it's automatically linked from the relevant questions. :-)

@ArtOfCode I can relate...I sorta hate work in the summer, people being out for various vacations always makes things busy and crazy.

@MonicaCellio I see what you mean... stackoverflow.com/tags/javascript/info well that could be an interesting option :-)

@bilbo_pingouin About the blog, I was thinking we could work on these on the Stack exchange and publish the bill when it's finished. It's a possibility. It takes some time to write a good blog entry but it appear as a smaller task if several person contribute.

6:44 PM
@bilbo_pingouin yes, like that. Ours probably won't be that extensive (yet), but SO has had seven years to work on theirs. :-)

@MonicaCellio ... and a few more members :)
@Vincent yes... that's why I like the concept of a wiki, which, for example is the case for the tag wiki...

@bilbo_pingouin true, though they probably have a lower ratio of people contributing to site infrastructure. :-)

so I guess the question, is do we want something like that, and if yes, are some people wanted to do it?
@MonicaCellio yes, that is probably the case, indeed :-)

@James added a little piece just for you in the question!

@bowlturner Bwahahaha, the AI takeover is nigh.

It makes me really happy to see lots of low 100s reputation users writing good answers to questions.

@Green Indeed, I noticed a few very good first posts these last few days...

8:19 PM
This answer was especially impressive: worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/a/21163/10364
I think that two week challenge to write about religion posts was really helpful in raising our profile in general.

It attracted a lot of people... let's see how we fare with ... but anyway, with some luck a certain number of the newcomers will stay/come back regularly

Q: Should we rename Idea Generation?

Dan SmolinskeBased on this question. I don't really like "Idea Generation" as a reason to close. It seems like too much of a subtle reason to me, since really this entire site is about ideas. Even the accepted answer about "What is Idea Generation" seems to indicate this: We have an "Idea Generation" c...
