Q: How appropriate is the interview question: "Show me a piece of code you like"?

ZeksI recently interviewed a candidate at our company and asked him Show me a piece of code you like, yours or something you snatched from the internet The candidate was not really able to properly answer that, just fumbled around aimlessly and unsure of what to make of this kind of response...

^^ Its too bad we didnt catch that one in time. It would have been a good question as How do I answer the question> But its an opinion poll that has turned into a chat fest.

A: How can I get people to join a site and not simply glance and pass it by?

gnatIntro: don't expect it to work in your favor First thing to keep in mind is that purpose of hot questions feature is established pretty firmly and that it's not really about helping in your community growth. The feature is there only to show network wide audience entertaining / interesting quest...

^^^ I knew it's going to be a trainwreck from the moment I saw it in hot questions list
...when it's there, things just move too fast to do any sensible improvement. And the asker is of course not motivated to improve at all, because lemmings upvotes tell them loud and clear, it's okay as is

Why are we electing a moderator? Did someone step down?

11:19 PM
@JimG. No one is stepping down, mainly our site has grown and as @MonicaCellio said, it's time to grow the mod team
It'll help have better coverage, too, as you are probably aware sometimes questions here... need more immediate attention as The Workplace tends to attract some polarizing questions which need a bit of mod TLC
