I think he popped up late as well. But I've seen him a few times on Meta. And when you propose a site, you don't necessarily have to participate, just start a revolution :)
I am thinking of changing my business to an open source business model. Before I do this I need to make sure I will not encounter any major issues.
My question:
What things should I look our for, or prepare to insure a issue free transition? Also what problems have occurred in the past that I m...
Open Source Software is just... software. It exists good software and it exists bad, just the same as with closed source. You have to look at each program individually and decides if it is good or bad.
Example: I think many people are using Firefox or Chrome now instead of closed browsers. Not b...

I was talking to my friend, they told me they started switching open source programs and they started to slow down his computer.
My company has recommended that I try to use open source programs, but based on this I am scared it may hurt our infrastructure.
My question:

Over at Open Source.SE, it's easy to figure out how many people would've seen a post, since it's still in beta. With 313 users, you wouldn't expect to have reached more than that amount. Yet:

If you send me the paragraphs you'd like to write about yourself, I'll post them for you when the post comes out, and just say that it's a nomination for you not me.
I feel like the most concise answer to this would be, "A lot of bookstore owners will lose money (and get really annoyed at you), as will you," but it's clearly deeper than that.
@HDE226868 Yes, but that is unrelated to it being open or not, people have in each case the choice of downloading the digital book vs. buying the print.
@Mnementh It is, because now the booksellers have competition. They've paid money for their copies, whereas many other people have not, and so they'll lose money because those who got it for free will be willing to sell it at lower prices. The booksellers bought each copy from you at cost X, so they willnot want to sell it for anything less than X. Those who got it for free can sell it for less than X and still profit.
As in many questions, floss and foss were deemed to be similar, if not the same (the difference being technical).
Should we make these tags synonyms of each other?
Suppose I was working on a piece of software. What would it mean for me to make it Open Sourced? Does this mean that anyone can edit my program? Also, how would it compare to a non- open sourced project?
From previous expearence I know that when making an open source piece of software you often have documention that moves with the file. Some of these files include:
Readme
License
Changes
While these things are good for digital files, when building hardware you dont have a folder with files.

Suppose I have a design for a truck. Simple enough. Possibly in a .CAD file or some such program. I publish this design on my website under a BC-NC-ND licence. Someone on the web finds my design and builds it using wood or a 3d printer. Now we have a phyical object.
My Question:
Now that we ha...
Following this comment, do we want questions to be general, and helpful to as many people as possible, or do we want to also allow more specific questions that help smaller groups of people?
I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it's to do with a specific licensing problem. W...
