9:01 PM
I'm getting more tempted to also continue on my HearthMonitor application
More thinking about creating a platform that provides websocket streams of players though
(And then you can make stuff based upon that)

Just code something, @skiwi!
@Phrancis I suspect that you are experiencing github.com/Cardshifter/Cardshifter/issues/297 . I think the wrong version of creatures.groovy gets included, which causes things to not work properly

Alright, let's try this again
No luck
I do notice something odd
When I start it up, it already has all the information filled in
Maybe a cache issue?

that's intended behavior
@Phrancis Please start the JavaFX client using java -jar xxxxxx.jar and please show me the console output.

OK

@SimonAndréForsberg I'll try my best tomorrow!
Oh, and study
Just went 4-0 on an Arena run so far

9:10 PM
@skiwi no summer break?

Heading to bed soon tm though
@SimonAndréForsberg 1 July, that's the day
My only and last exam of this quartile

Also before 30 June I need to hand in some reflective bs exercises

Why do both mods have ModCollection.java: 65 ?

because it's a for-loop

9:13 PM
Ah

@Phrancis Might be the line number of the entry point of the loading mod method

it's the line number where the actual logging occurs
@Phrancis could you send me the list of files you have in /Users/francisveilleux-gaboury/test/mods/Cyborg-Chronicles ?

at the bottom of that file, add this line:
println 'Correct file XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX'

Just verbatim like that?

yes
then start a game of any mod and show me the console output

OK.
@SimonAndréForsberg pastebin.com/d54qDwmk
(that was starting with Mythos mod)

@Phrancis add these two lines at the bottom of the creatures.groovy file, start a new game of any mod, and show me another console output:
println CardDelegate
println CardDelegate.metaClass

THIS MAKES NO SENSE

What if you run it from inside your IDE (the updated version), what happens then?

Do you think it could be something OS X specific, or have to do with my Java version?

"When was the last time it worked?"
I am suspecting OS X. I would like @bazola to try it as he is also on Mac.

OK give me a few minutes to start up IDEA and build it

good, that's what I wanted to see first of all
now, do git diff again, scroll down a bit and it should tell you about the changes in Game.groovy and greek.groovy

Is it normal it keeps having me hold the Enter key to scroll beyond that?

commit that
you can also press the down arrow key, I believe

Hey look at what I just found

9:47 PM
if the greek cardset currently works, you can commit it like that. but we need to make sure that it works first for you.

Alright, let me try and build it
If not, I'm okay to discard the little changes, it looks like @Lokkij didn't update greek.groovy since it was commented out in Game.groovy

Oh right, I forgot about that one

But, does this have anything to do with my issue though?
@Lokkij No worries man

I wouldn't have expected him to change that as it wasn't used at the time

> BUILD FAILED

9:51 PM
@Phrancis Not really, what we do want is to find a version that works for you. To do that, it is a lot easier if you have a clean working directory (i.e. no changes to commit)

@SimonAndréForsberg To your knowledge, what is one branch that I can pull and that works for sure, for you?

All of them work for me

I'm really not worried about those changes I made, I'll re-do them later

We might need to go further back in the history to find one that works for you
git stash is good for that

Alright, let me pull from origin groovy then
(I did stash)

nothing to commit, working directory clean

9:54 PM
I believe you are already up to date there

Now, let's see if it builds

exactly
yes, that first.
And then, if it does build, run it from your IDE and see if you have that issue

OK. When you ran it and it worked, did you run it from the release files or from the IDE?
com.cardshifter.server.main.ServerConnectionTest > testPlayGame FAILED
    java.lang.AssertionError at ServerConnectionTest.java:148
No luck

take a look at the reports
I have tried running both from release files and from IDE, both work for me

9:59 PM
can you ignore that and run it from the IDE?

Sure, need to run just GameClient.java or also the server?

client is enough
we can just ignore the server and focus on local games

The little Run icon at the top is greyed out...
I tried from the menu. got some errors
/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_20.jdk/Contents/Home/bin/java -Didea.launcher.port=7532 "-Didea.launcher.bin.path=/Applications/IntelliJ IDEA 14 CE.app/Contents/bin" -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 -classpath "/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_20.jdk/Contents/Home/lib/ant-javafx.jar:/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_20.jdk/Contents/Home/lib/dt.jar:/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_20.jdk/Contents/Home/lib/javafx-mx.jar:/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_20.jdk/Contents/Home/lib/jconsole.jar:/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_20.jdk/Contents/Home/l

you need to add a run configuration

Should it just be Gradle?

10:04 PM
It should be something like this:

What a headache when you don't know what you're doing :(
It does say "Cannot resolve symbol "cardshifter" when I hover over the red text

try closing the Cardshifter project and re-import it from build.gradle, when it asks you, say that you want to delete the project and re-import

@SimonAndréForsberg Like that^^ ?

yes, click finish there
and then you might get another question

Here's what it looks like, I did not get any other questions, but several notifications
Need a smoke right now, but will read up

10:15 PM
Alright, enter run configurations again and create something like this:
10 mins ago, by Simon André Forsberg
user image

What should I do about those notifications on the right side? Disable them or...?

add root on the first one
close the other ones

OK, I configured like your screenshot, but when I run I get 74 errors, and it also opens TargetSet.java with errors saying "Diamond types are not supported at this language level"
	public TargetSet(ECSAction action, int min, int max) {
		this.chosenTargets = new ArrayList<>(min);
		this.action = action;
		this.min = min;
		this.max = max;
	}
^^ example

10:30 PM
right click on Cardshifter at the top in the tree to the left, choose "Open Module Settings"
go to Project Settings -> Project and choose language level 8

10:42 PM
There we go
Sooooo, it works there

well, that's something at least...
Now, can you run ./gradlew clean dist

Alright, that built successfully
Not sure where the JAR files are

in build/distributions there's a zip file
unzip that to a new, empty, directory, and start the jar files

Seems to work now... WTF

run git status again please

10:56 PM
➜  ~  cd /Users/francisveilleux-gaboury/IdeaProjects/Cardshifter
➜  Cardshifter git:(groovy) git status

nothing to commit, working directory clean
Should I try running the download release again?

yes, make sure that you put the files in a clean, empty directory

OK
Same issue :|
This is so weird

yes, it is
could you send the new zip file you created to me?

Yeah let me recreate it since I deleted after extracting
(or it deleted itself, whatever)
Sending to your hotmail, may be a bit since it's 27 mb
Might need to use my Gmail...
Just sent using Google Drive, djphrancis @

11:14 PM
it says that your Google Drive Folder is empty, but maybe it hasn't finished uploading

blames Google
I'll upload directly through Drive and send you a link here
My internet is disconcertingly slow right now
@SimonAndréForsberg Try this
Hmm, game types missing when I run server and client from IDE >.<

that's probably a working directory issue
check the first lines of server log

Ah, I see that. I think bazola had the same issue? If so I'll just scroll back and find the fix
We need to write a documentation page about all this stuff. Seriously.

yes, we do...
bazola has had the same issue with the working directory, yes

11:29 PM
That said, @Simon, is the file I sent working OK when you run it?

yes, it is, but I have never had any problems running anything
Could you create an issue for this problem you are having with the official distribution? We need to test it on more computers / platforms
If @Lokkij and @bazola could test it, that would be great

Sure
