Self-clearing floats?
Sounds dangerous, code with a will of it's own.

meh... standard clearfix.
you say "after this element I don't want floats anywhere"
it's just a shorthand so you don't write stuff like:
  <div class="clear">&nbsp;</div>
  <div class="clear"></div>
  <div class="separator"></div>
  <div class="clear">&nbsp;</div>

Seems useful.

instead you add the css-rule to the previous node, and you're done

No negative side effects?

not if you do it right
sure if you make the class do more than just clear the float, you're gonna have a bad time, but..
just google for "css clearfix" if you want to know more ;)

Yea, that.
The hardest part in every language is doing things with it it's not supposed to do.
Which is exactly what I'm doing with it...

@Mast some developers never understand that..

Well, I'm doing two completely different things with it. Part of it is a server, which is exactly in NodeJS's ballpark.
The other part is hardware control, which can't be done async.
And I can't figure out what the correct way to do it is.

ASM doesn't count, because it's too close to remain intelligible IMO.

The question attracted my attention due to the edit in Rev 3. I had to judge whether it invalidated your answer, and I decided that it was more clarification than invalidation. (Would have been nice if OP had just asked with the real code in the first place, of course.) By the time I thought things through, I figured I should write an answer.

I feel like a Surface would be slightly more portable.

Yeah, but that's not your first Swift answer.

I've answered AppleScript and Objective C before.

Swift surely seems easier to review than Obj-C, might have to do with it?

@skiwi @nhgrif's question was about @200_success having OS X and coding Swift

I tried to learn Objective-C, but then, then.... [Resounding silence]

Searching for Swift documentation just turns up tons of Objective C results, then you have to translate back to Swift, and guess what the most idiomatic expression is.
But yes, that was my first experience with Swift.

@FilipRoséen-refp This question is not suitable for ANYWHERE. We know nothing about this code. "This is my code" followed by a massive code dump needs to just be closed as unclear what you're asking. Please don't direct it elsewhere. — nhgrif 1 min ago

@nghrif it is a far better fit for codereview.SE than here. Over there an edit can make it a very suitable question, here it is beyond repair. — Filip Roséen - refp 54 secs ago
@FilipRoséen-refp Perhaps this could be made into a suitable question for Code Review but the improvement it requires must come from the OP. No one else can edit it into shape. And while the OP did slightly improve his question, it's still getting close votes and downvotes at Code Review. I know you did not make the original suggestion, but please don't migrate crap, don't recommend crap. If the question is a bad fit for Stack Overflow, close it for the appropriate reason (in this case, unclear) — nhgrif 30 secs ago

I have a bit of a problem with this post. We're code review, not design review and not architecture review. Placeholder types and methods are frowned upon and many questions were closed as off-topic "hypothetical code" for that. Disregarding syntax errors implies that your code might not work, which is another off-topic close reason on this site. disregarding logical errors implies that the code might not be doing what it's intending to do, which is our definition of "broken code". I suggest you complete your application and post the actual code here when it's ready for a peer review. — Mat's Mug 24 secs ago

I surprised to see everyone jumps to given -1 just because it doesn't fit here :( I am unhappy with this attitude. If I am wrong give me sometime I did not ask any thing that is nonsense. I tried my best and asked for an open review and the question is incomplete. That's all. Why that every one happy punishing me for an incomplete question. IMHO I would help the OP to complete the question rather than jumping to conclusion and trying to close the question. I think stack exchange is a virtual work place where every one help each other rather than a Q & A. Anyway thanks to all who helped me. — Tech Jerk 16 mins ago

@QPaysTaxes I'd be offended if somebody commented that about me

YOu should try posting this in codereview, since there's no real issue here... — monxas 38 secs ago

@TechJerk no, everyone jumps to -1, because that is an appropriate reaction for a question that (quoting the dowvote tooltip) "does not show any research effort". Because if you had put a little effort into your question,
you'd have read through our [help/on-topic] to find out whether it's welcome here, realized your question is not a good fit, and suddenly the whole problem vanishes... What happened now is that everybody used a little time on your question, that could've been spent "more productive". Deal with it.
non-posted comment...
bear trap (y/n) and if yes, salvageable?

Sorry if my close vote (and the 4 others) offended you - it's not punishment though, and neither are downvotes: the system simply prioritizes on-topic questions with a positive score, and close votes ultimately put the question "on hold" so it cannot receive answers while you're putting the post back in track. Many don't even bother, and "on hold" becomes "closed" and after a while, "deleted". Glad to see you care enough to update your question. I'll vote to reopen and tell the regulars in Code Review Chat to consider doing the same. — Mat's Mug 1 min ago

how does one render agile tags?

huh?

Agile software development is a group of software development methods in which requirements and solutions evolve through collaboration between self-organizing, cross-functional teams. It promotes adaptive planning, evolutionary development, early delivery, continuous improvement, and encourages rapid and flexible response to change. The Manifesto for Agile Software Development, also known as the Agile Manifesto, first introduced the term agile in the context of software development in 2001. == History == === Predecessors === Incremental software development methods trace back to 1957. In 1974, E...

I'm allowed dad jokes, I'm a dad

wait... there was a joke in there??

I am also allowed dad jokes. While I'm not a father myself, I'm basically the dad to my girlfriend's kid.
Also, I regularly tell lame jokes, so I really need an excuse for that...

well... now you got one..

I was intending to post a self-answered question about Autolayout on Stack Overflow today... but it's being difficult with me...

autolayout? or SO?

Autolayout.

3:33 PM
I thought it was oh so magic...

Oh, maybe it's not autolayout. Maybe the imageview class is just being difficult.
Autolayout isn't magic. Autolayout is extraordinarily powerful, but also extraordinarily complex...
I've never said autolayout was easy... I've only ever said it's something that is extraordinarily powerful and that every iOS developer should be at least competent with it. I'm trying to become significantly better than competent.

> the right stuff for self-improvement: practice, practice, ...practice

And yes, it wasn't auto layout that was being difficult... it was an option on my image view...
And now my former work just emailed me with info about my last check and didn't cash out my PTO...

at least it wasn't for info about your last check-in

Oh wait...
this paycheck is for more...
but
Apparently 6 PTO days is worth a total of $60?
hmm...

and yet the comments were cleaned up? not sure I get it...

I'm disappointed and feel like I was potentially misled, unless this is an error.
I told my boss that this coming Friday would be my last day. Much, much later, he said it would be better if this past Friday was my last day. And I said, "So, I'll just use PTO for the last week of May then?" and he said I didn't need to worry about it, as it'd be cashed out on my last paycheck. It's getting cashed out at about 20% the value I normally got for PTO days...
