@Dom Well, if you could make something nice, that would be nice. As i said in our chat room, it might be hard to pormote something (even a logo) if you don't know what LaTeX is all about.

If you do a rough draft of what you want, he (or I or whoever) can put it together for you

just describe how you want it. The logo with text under it? If so, what should the text say?

Just FYI :) Our own community promo ads arent' that fleshed out: meta.graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/1340/… Most of us do this all day every day and working overtime for it seems to be a struggle at our own site. That may be why the overall reception was tepid to work on it for teX. Just an observation.

@Scott I couldn't agree more, though it probably also has a lot to do with how high our standards are around here, producing something we're proud of takes too much free time

@JohnB any quick thoughts on the above?

I was thinking of creating one for chat to try and get more people in here

even just a mini "branding guide" for our site would be really neat. The vector logo(s), any sort of vector shape on the site (badge icons etc), and a swatch of the colors the site uses

So.. I've got houseguest and they are really annoying.

All they do is sit around in their underwear smoking weed.

Every day, all day. I leave and come back and they are still in the same position. Sitting in their underwear and smoking weed.

They keep ordering pizzas so the trash is overflowing with pizza boxes

I don't even know where they are getting the money for the pizza (or weed)

They litterally never leave the couch

This has been going on for a couple weeks

I'm so sick of them just sitting around in their underwear

It's off-putting and kind of gross. And the whole house smells like weed

So finally last night I had had enough.

I finally sat down with them and said...

"Look, mom, dad, your'e going to have to find somewhere else to stay."

@Dom That would be best if you post it as a meta post to TeX.SX and let comments come to it before your final revision. Please mention all the copy rights issues too. In my opinion, it is better not to include any images in it.

@Dom to be 100% honest, I've never used a raster image in an AI pattern. I have no clue how it will act.

@Scott that's reassuring lol I suppose it will be fine but I've left the PNG embedded and hidden anyway just in case

traditionally I'd jsut manually recreate the emblem, then make a pattern if needed.

I thought about doing that but then there's also the need to keep it at a consistent size, so rescaling is not so attractive, am I right in this case?

You can scale a pattern after it's been applied, but initially it's the size it is created at.

I think that's why we need properly fleshed-out guidelines and more relevant help topics (not saying it will fix it for sure) but with a good explanation people can be brought around to the right direction

Freelancing.se should just be folded up. But it does show a possible need for accounting.se or taxstuff.se

I just think the "help" addresses the overall SE UI and not really the specific site help. A broader, site-specific help section would probably be useful.. but... no one ever looks at the help files... Adobe PROVES that :)

Closing a site throws away a lot of hard work though :/ and I think they have a few money sites

That's what I had in mind, instead of overhauling the existing content, they could just add a site specific FAQ box above it

Well questions at freelancing.se suck for the most part. WAY too localized for the most part and a good 50% of them are "how to I make money"

Fair enough, I haven't used that site so I have no idea, I just thought it was doing well because it was around so long
