9:55 AM
hey
Deck statistics ftw. On my PvP deck of yesterday I have 12.96% chance on getting resource screwed and 16.21% of getting resource flooded, the rest is acceptable
@SimonAndréForsberg Yay, I managed to sell those two Goblin Cooking Pots over night :P

10:32 AM
@skiwi Yay!

Versus the Eternal Guardian you really should have a solid hand... Getting Sapphire screwed for 4 turns doesn't help in that!

10:49 AM
I don't see how I can win vs Eternal Guardian, though I did it on one of the first days
With somewhat more Gold I could buy some nice Rares
I'm considering Imp Hoodlums, Cloud Titan and Avalanche Giant, thoughts @SimonAndréForsberg?

Imp Hoodlums - doesn't seem very useful. 2/2 for 3 is not that good deal. The effect might be useful against a few of the Frost Arena opponents. You could try it in a PvE deck perhaps, but I wouldn't use it for PvP.
Cloud Titan - lacks all sorts of effects. A flying 4/4 for 5 mana. A bit expensive. I would not pick that one.
Avalanche Giant - you need to be able to draw more cards if you plan on using that one. The effect is a nice one, but I think you will find problems discarding cards very often. You should pretty much only discard resource cards for that, or cards that you can get some combo with when they are in the graveyard.

11:05 AM
(Will read up in a min)
I just had a thought on how to make TCG unique... what about:
You can partition your deck up into partitions of 20 cards that are being drawn from in order?
And other one is that you need to divide your deck in two equal parts, and at the start of the game you have 100% chance to draw from Part 1 and 0% to draw from Part 2, and that percentage rises during the game (perhaps even influenced by a 3rd card property next to attack/hitpoints?), it should cap at some percentage like 50%, 60% or maybe 75% probability to draw from Part 2
@SimonAndréForsberg Yeah... was thinking the same about that
@SimonAndréForsberg Flying is really powerful though
@SimonAndréForsberg I was thinking destroying Artifacts can be quite OP, and possibly better than Research Adept (or however it's called) as I don't think drawing cards from it is really useful... It plays nicely when I'm already winning, but if I'm losing then it's a pain and other cards could be more useful

@skiwi I believe you have mentioned that kind of idea before

Going to university... reading up later
@SimonAndréForsberg Yeah, somewhat similar, but not 100%

@skiwi Flying is powerful yes, but a 4/4 flying for 5 mana? Would be better if it had more effects on it. Against some decks it might be a good one, but I think that there can be better
@skiwi Your opponent is not always playing artifacts at all. Like my deck for example - not a single artifact.
Research Adept is a quite expensive card draw, but it is better than nothing. As in all TCGs, Card Advantage is what will give you a win.

2 hours later…
12:45 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg That's quite an issue yes
I should also be careful that I don't remove too many Dwarfs/Robots from my deck

1:15 PM
Interesting card
@SimonAndréForsberg What's the drawback here? hex.tcgbrowser.com/#!/cards/cardid=111&set=sof 41 platinum / 12K Gold is cheap
Seems like a very good card

Hey everyone!

@skiwi that one can be a bit annoying. I am glad that I am often able to get a 10/10 creature though :)

hey @Marc-Andre

@skiwi that's a good card indeed. the only drawback is that you can only kill a creature once with it, then it is transformed.

@SimonAndréForsberg Yeah, but it looks very solid

1:19 PM
Having fun with HEX @skiwi ?

@skiwi 4/4 for 5 with that ability is good.
@skiwi I'd recommend registering another account, with another e-mail to test the other starting decks. I think you would enjoy some of the other decks much more.

@SimonAndréForsberg I'm planning to do a tournament though, so then I'm bound

@skiwi you can still have other accounts.

Yeah, but not with my bought cards and platinum/gold?

1:22 PM
You can trade cards, but you don't seem to be able to get infinite cards for sure
Else someone would've done that already
The starter cards (and trial) are probably bound
They do sell Starter Decks for other classes I believe
This card also seems good ^^

not that good IMO. When you have enough mana, it is worthless.

So only early game

good cards are the cards that are the most usable in the most situations

1:48 PM
5000 damage is quite a lot

it is. I think my maximum health so far has been about 140 in a game
having 5 of those cards in play at the same time is extremely unlikely though

> added toString for ReplayAction
> ReplayPlaybackSystem now returns the action performed in nextStep
> added method for extracting statistics from a replay file
@Simon, don't forget to fix Facebook Graph 2.0 in Mineswweeper for Android!

I should probably fix that.... some time....
#procastination

@SimonAndréForsberg Maybe it does, don't recall completely as I have not used 0.5 that much
(and monking!)

hey @Phrancis

2:03 PM
hey @Phrancis

[Cardshifter/Cardshifter] build #795 for commit 4d7c9461 on branch stats passed

@skiwi I don't think that is as good as you think it is.
Where does a creature do the most good, in your deck or on the battlefield?

@SimonAndréForsberg Depends ono the situation

How often can you attack/block with creatures in your deck?

2:11 PM
0?

^^ that

How likely are you to actually draw the troop again that you put into your deck?

Ah right

Let alone, the better the creature you put back in your deck, the less good this card does you... and the bigger your deck, the more this card becomes problematic

exactly ^^

2:13 PM
crap, I'm downloading hex. thanks a lot guys :)

The word "gambit" actually describes it quite well

@bazola Haha

@bazola blame @skiwi

There's no regio restrictions! (I believe)

i wish they had a version for iOS

2:14 PM
Does Hex exist for mobile platforms at all?

@SimonAndréForsberg I think an iPad version is planned
It's still early beta of the game though
lol, now this is a good card

@bazola Do they have an OS X version? I might like to try it, maybe get some ideas

@Phrancis yeah they have a mac version

Is that game actually fun, or mostly not that great?

@Phrancis I think it's fun, especially PvE
I'm still learning the first set though... taking a while, lol
I absolutely hate Inspire

2:26 PM
Public decks...? That's a neat idea- is that a feature of the TCG Browser site or the HEX game?

@Phrancis Feature I think
I really like that TCG Browser site
With an ingame HEX API you can have it automatically save your decks on that website

Neat
> and he gets "When Reginald enters your hand or graveyard, he destroys you."
^^ How is that good???

@Phrancis The you is the opponent in that case

OH
"into their deck" I misread as your deck
Funny how one little word makes all the difference in the world.

2:42 PM
@Phrancis Sometimes even a comma can make a lot of difference

so.. tutorial says "right click".. control click is not working
is right clicking essential to the gameplay?

@bazola Yes

oh, i guess two fingers at once works

@bazola it is used for zooming on cards
btw... THE TUTORIAL SUCKS!

I'm going to rush through it as fast as i can
so champions and your starting race are different?

2:49 PM
Not quite sure

@bazola yes. you can switch your champion, but not your starting race/deck

Noooo, the teacher doesn't know how to code against interfaces
This framework code makes me cry, again.

@skiwi What have I done now?

@SimonAndréForsberg Not Cardshifter, for this university assignment.

ok, good ^^

2:58 PM
the theme seems pretty nonexistent
first match was pretty easy:

3:13 PM
@bazola Yeah... until you meet hard AI ;)
The horrors...
public double getSmoothedCount(String NGram)
{
    if(NGram == null || NGram.length() == 0)
    {
        throw new IllegalArgumentException("NGram must be non-empty.");
    }

    double smoothedCount = 0.0;

    /** ADD CODE HERE **/

    return smoothedCount;
}

3:33 PM
my first match after making a deck, i only draw 3 mana cards and am getting crushed

> started to add flexibility for more things than just ToIntFunction

3 hours later…
6:13 PM
Next week it's Machine Learning for AI
And also something about using neural networks for speech recognizition
Sounds awesome
Yay for 29 Platinum via the AH, I think I can buy a cool card with that
Aaaaah... I just realize that circle on the right is to show in what set a card is
Maybe I over-value my Sapper's Charge, I'd like to have thoughts on that @Simon once you are back

6:32 PM
I'm actually writing code for work today! Unfortunately, it's VBA lol.

writing code is better than a lot of things, even if it's VBA

@skiwi unfortunately Hex is not scratching a different itch than MTG for me
some bad news, the price of the new hearthstone adventure is 25 bucks, and you only get 31 cards

@bazola It's (supposedly) not that much different than MTG
I think the cool part is that you have PvE here
Now it's just one Arena, but they plan to make it into a full MMO

theres been lots of magic games with AI and campaigns and such

6:51 PM
I think it's a nice game, haven't played MTG myself though

i will try it again later, maybe it will grab me on a second go

What did you try so far?

7:11 PM
just a couple early matches

@Marc-Andre True

@bazola The Arena is the fun part I must say
I can't get past the first Boss anymore though :| I could previously, this kinda sucks
Somehow I made my deck worse
Oh wow, I just realize you can change your champions
The lazy way to sync the collection with that website @Simon... buy something from AH on Buyout as it generates an event

7:39 PM
it just felt a whole lot like playing magic but with probably less unique cards than a magic starter deck

That ^^ I don't know enough about unfortunately

well the best MTG for multiplayer and low cost was the duels of the planeswalkers line of games. 10 bucks and you can unlock all the cards, but not completely customizable decks. that is the MTG that i played the most. but the latest version of that got a lot more expensive, and the interface was a step backward in my opinion

Ah okay
It's a whole lot already to read through the 350 cards from Set 1!
And then there's also Set 2 which I still need to learn
I'm still not sure what to think about cards have pretty hard trigger conditions, but are therafter an almost instant win

8:01 PM
> Awesome @Phrancis! Honestly, I still need to take a few minutes to actually play the game...

350 is a crapload of cards

8:38 PM
@bazola Enough potential decks to build

@RubberDuck If you're around this weekend just LMK and we can play perhaps

@Phrancis awww man. Between this book, and RD, and RL. I don't know that last time I played a game.

Haha I hear you

Mar 12 at 23:19, by Phrancis
The thing I love about computers is that they are really good at computing.
Just saw that. ^ Pure awesome.

Grmbmbllglglglblbllbl, why can't I calculate?
HEX (or MTG for that sake) is hard if there's lots of troops on the field
I guess it's all learning moments

@skiwi Magic has 1225 cards. in "Standard"
Then there are other modes as well.
Modern for example has 8757 cards.
@skiwi Honestly, I don't see a reason why you should learn all the cards.

@SimonAndréForsberg 8757?
@SimonAndréForsberg I think for drafting it's incredibly useful
You have 5 seconds per card in every draft turn

8757, yes.
@skiwi Yes. You do over-value Sapper's Charge.

9:30 PM
Finally! I won again vs Eternal Champion
Lost three runs in a row I think

9:45 PM
Lost on Challenge 6 now, the enemy cascaded a flying troop with 3 hp... I couldn't do anything
Seems like Diamond Shards have all the cool cards
Wow

now that's something ^^
A green threshold of 6 though, that's a lot. Basically forces you to play an all-green deck

This one aswell...

that is not that good
if you want to reveal 3 cards, then you need to pay 9 mana

If you're at 8 mana, then you have 5 leftover mana and quite some chance to get 2 troops
@SimonAndréForsberg Ah, it's multiplying?

x usually means multiplication, yes....

9:57 PM
Platinum price of 692 tells it's quite good apparently

or that someone wants an absurd amount of money for it
or that they think that someone knows how to play it "correctly"

Eh, wtf?

green decks can be very mana-loving. Just like in Magic. There tends to be a lot of cards that gives you extra mana, extra shard-thresholds, etc...

Did they copy Magic 1:1 on the resources/lands?

@skiwi can a card have two different thresholds?

10:00 PM
@bazola You mean two different resources? Yes, I've seen a few of those, not that common though

then yeah it seems exactly like magic
magic has super lands that can do different things besides just be lands though

I more meant like @SimonAndréForsberg said that green is very magic loving
As HEX has Green, Purple, Red, Blue and White

I'd say it's 1:1, yes
in Magic it's WUBRG - White, blUe, Black, Red, Green

They really couldn't be somewhat original and create a Yellow/Lightning or/and a Brown/Earth resource?
Or is 5 resources a magic number

i don't think its a magic number, but in MTG it represents different play styles (or at least it originally did)

10:04 PM
White = flying, lifelink, human creatures, vigilance ("steadfast")
Blue = flying, draw card, put opponent troops to it's hand, counter spells
Black = pay life costs, have opponent discard cards, play with your graveyard
Red = spells that deal direct damage, creatures that deals a lot of damage
Green = gain mana and have big creatures. trample ("crush")
^^ that's the things associated with the Magic colors
the same things feels like they're associated with the Hex colors

Yeah... I can imagine it being helpful that it's familiar, I do understand why there was a lawsuit though and some MTG players are annoyed

there's been a lawsuit?

me either
what was the result of it?

HEX won
(Else it probably wouldn't have existed right now)
But I also hear that Magic has done quite some lawsuits

they probably have.

10:09 PM
it says here that the lawsuit won't start until 2016

@bazola Ah, interesting
"Wizards as a patent on turning a card sideways to indicate it is used. Yes, the patent is silly and such a thing would never be issued today, but back then it was new and approved. "
Really...
Apparently it's expired now though, but looks like it's still included in that lawsuit
I doubt Wizards will win it though
I'm still wondering what the intended game length is in HEX, are you supposed to kill the opponent as fast as possible? Or does it want you to make long games

i think that all depends on what decks are playing against each other

10:24 PM
@skiwi I think it does take a while longer than Hearthstone games.

@SimonAndréForsberg I'm not so sure, if you look at the number of turns
Sure, the turns themselves take a lot longer
TTGTB now to stop going insane
