@Scimonster I think there's a mishna explicitly not like that ... at least concerning certain times of year.
... which Purim, admittedly, is not one of.

4 hours later…

@IsaacMoses Avos 5:5: "ולא אמר אדם לחברו צר לי המקום שאלין בירושלים".

@Mr.Bultitude Exodus 34:21 ("on the seventh day you shall rest; in plowing and in harvesting you shall rest") is understood by the Talmud (Shabbos 70a) as an explicit reference to the prohibition against plowing and harvesting grain on the Sabbath (aside from the general exegetical comparison between the labors involved in building the Tabernacle and the prohibited labors on the Sabbath, which includes plowing and harvesting).

Of general PTIJ interest....someone showed me this, and I think several in this room might enjoy it:
"The Ballad of Rabba and Rabi Zeira" (from Megillah 7b)

7:03 AM
@Shokhet I'm no music critic, but it strikes me as well-executed blues, besides being a great interpretation of that Gemara. :)
Also, it's not every day that you get clarinet with your blues, I think

7:52 AM
@Shokhet At first i thought it said havdalah. :P
An answer of mine on Skeptics quoting Tanach just got a Good Answer badge!

A: Could people perceive the color blue in ancient times?

ScimonsterAncient Hebrew has the word תכלת for blue (or more specifically, azure), as attested to in the Bible: Numbers 15:38: Speak to the children of Israel and you shall say to them that they shall make for themselves fringes on the corners of their garments, throughout their generations, and they ...

@IsaacMoses Yes; that was the other reason my friend showed it to me :)
@Scimonster Me too; that's why I translated it ;-)
@Scimonster I either gave that answer 24 or 25...I clicked on the HNQ, wondering if I should post that answer myself! :p
@IsaacMoses I wouldn't know; I listen to more Pacific jazz and bossa nova :p
....in other news, I hit 3K on MSE over Shabbos! :)

@Shokhet Meta doesn't count as Melacha?

@IsaacMoses Nope!
...there's also no stigma; if I used MY over Shabbos, everyone here would think that was strange! ;-)

@Shokhet Shouldnta advertised in the Bam
@Shokhet "God! Why'd You let him get a Great Answer on MSE overnight?" "Who's he gonna tell?"

@IsaacMoses :D

Shavua' Tov, all. Other Americans: go to sleep! Stupid Congress says it's an hour later already.

@IsaacMoses Oh, you changed the clocks?

@Scimonster yup :)

I was originally thinking the best time to change the clocks was seder night, so we get an extra hour of sleep. Then i realized was told that we would lose an hour of sleep.
@Shokhet Thanks

@Scimonster np

I thought MD strikeout was ~~...

8:18 AM
@Scimonster :: shrug :: Could be.

@Scimonster I see.

8:32 AM
@IsaacMoses I think I'll take this advice. TZT, everyone! :)

4 hours later…
12:27 PM
@Shokhet Why are you back up?!

7 hours later…
7:26 PM
And PTIJ is getting closed...

7:41 PM
@Scimonster And all done.

The PTIJ season has come to an end for this year. We had a lot of fun questions. I also heard more complaints than in past years, about both volume and quantity. While it's fresh in everybody's minds, please take a look at this meta question and weigh in if you feel moved to:

Q: A silly question doth not a Purim Torah post make

YeZWe have a relaxed off-topic policy for Purim Torah. It is documented here and here. The context of this exception is silly parodies of real Torah discussion - could be a worthy exception to this expectation I think that some users have been abusing this relaxed standard to replace "silly ...

I was going to make a new "should we change anything about PTIJ for next year?" question, but I think that question is a reasonable home for that discussion. So if the discussion ranges beyond what was brought in the question, that's ok.

I like this idea with X=∞ and Y somewhere in the range 12 to 24. — msh210 ♦ Mar 1 at 7:23

@MonicaCellio how come that post shows up on the Hot Meta list with 7 votes when it has 8? (I suspect the cache-monster is to blame)

8:51 PM
@YeZ blame caching? Otherwise, no idea.

9:18 PM
It only updates every 20 minutes, iirc.

10:12 PM
@Scimonster Only 367 more days to go!
@YeZ I wonder if a cache-monster is a behema or a chaya?

@IsaacMoses There's nothing really to do about this right? judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/89/…

11:49 PM
@DoubleAA not much administratively, but we could post a message adding the missing attribution, FWIW

@IsaacMoses maybe also contact them. Perhaps they would want to remove plagiarism. CC @DoubleAA
