@Yuuki its buzzfeed, be thankful it's not a countdown

brave but well done him

@OrigamiRobot Or Superbowl Hangover

I'm not sure British devs have superbowl hangovers

After all the discussion about Super Bowl things, I feel it was a great decision to play games instead of watch it.

I mean, maybe, but I wouldn't put money on it

8:05 PM

I wish turn 1 quitters on Town of Salem would get a one hour ban or something

Guh. I might've just impulse semi-decided on an extra festival. In Czech this time.

@Sterno This++

@Sterno Hey, some of us had Flash crash on us.

@Sterno Though, @Yuuki was having turn 1 crashes yesterday.

8:07 PM
Man, if I ever need to lure @Arperum somewhere for some dastardly deed, I just need to tell him there's a festival somewhere.

Though the number of turn 1 Medium / Lookout suicides is pretty high.

@Yuuki Maybe it can cross reference with you being framer or jester :P

Apparently he is bound by a curse to see them all.

@OrigamiRobot Make sure it's a metal festival. And it'll probably work.

scribbles notes

8:08 PM
@Arperum What about a metal-working festival?

(I've semi-planned to go to the US for a festival next year)
@Yuuki Do they play lots of metal music at the same time? And have swordfights with the freshly made swords?
@OrigamiRobot stands up I am @Arperum and I'm addicted to metal festivals.

@Yuuki Hey, that's something I'd be interested in.
pats @Arperum It's ok, you're in a safe place.
@Arperum I assume out in some desert somewhere. That seems like a good place for a metal festival.

Q: Why do lyrium veins heal you when the codex says they are fatal?

ThunderforgeThe codex entry on lyrium says the following: Even though dwarves have a natural resistance, raw lyrium is dangerous for all but the most experienced of the Mining Caste to handle. Even for dwarves, exposure to the unprocessed mineral can cause deafness or memory loss. For humans and elves, d...

@OrigamiRobot Nope. On a boat. A pretty big boat.
But now I have to empty a couple rooms because new windows tomorrow. Also a new door.

8:16 PM

@KevinvanderVelden What do you mean? Was there something else going on yesterday?

Hrm, are boats metal? Let me consult my resident expert...
Yes, I suppose.

@SaintWacko well, yes. Dinner with friends

The Metalocalypse wiki lists a Dethboat, but I can't find an image.

What is with you Europeans and your 3 episode TV series? 11+ eps or GTFO!

8:27 PM
oh right :D

@Frank Ohhhh! No wonder you didn't run into any vulgarity. That video was someone else. Robbaz is the one who's really well known for Viking Space Program

O_o FF kitchen knives?

@OrigamiRobot Amon Amarth is pretty damn awesome. @KevinvanderVelden doesn't like them though I think. (if only for the vocals)

Yeah, I really dislike grunt

@KevinvanderVelden Hmmm, You might like the cover Sabaton did.

8:33 PM
This is also pretty good if you ignore the last two and Kick-Ass
Poof is awesome, if you like super crate box you should play it.

What kind of metal is Dethklok?

@Arperum Not bad :)

Besides hilarious, I mean.

Q: Target Self Key - how can I make it work?

KrohnI recently started playing RIFT again, and this time I prefer playing a healing role. I had a question about the target self key you can set in Settings > Interface > Combat. I disabled Auto-Self Cast as I prefer having a modifier key held in to cast a spell on myself (Like in World of Warcraft -...

@Sterno Age of Wonders 3

8:38 PM
Wanna punch them in the face so hard.

@OrigamiRobot Pretty much just Death Metal.

@Batophobia oooo. I like the look of this!

@Sterno Serves you right for playing Mafia, tbqh.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Seconded.
@LessPop_MoreFizz I don't follow your logic unless you're simply saying you think it's a game that sucks and people who play it deserve a sucky time. :)

@RPiAwesomeness I'd be willing to buy a kitchen knife set of assorted iconic game swords

8:41 PM
@Sterno Playing Mafia is like putting together a puzzle, except you have to do it upside down and all of the pieces are loudly calling you a moron the whole time.

@LessPop_MoreFizz What does that have to do with people quitting as soon as they join and don't like their role?

@Sterno Because any good jigsaw puzzle is missing a few pieces.

Oh my god I can't get through this article
> The thirty-something-year-old has had her fair share of grown-up disappointments. Since moving to the city three years ago, she's been laid off twice. She is also a mother of two.
That's because you spend all your time on STUPID IDEAS LIKE ADULT PRESCHOOL

@Sterno Out of context, this seems to imply that being a mother of two is a grown-up disappointment...

@Sterno Don't ever move to NY, she's not an outlier.
@OrigamiRobot Well, it is.

8:45 PM
I'm working from home today. All of a sudden I hear my daughter WAILING from downstairs, so I go down to check what's up. She's crying because my wife won't let her put her hands in her mouth between spoonfuls of food.

@Sterno to be devils advocate. some adults to need to relearn pre-school. like playing nice

@Rapitor her program is not for that.

@StrixVaria EVERYTHING GOES IN THE MOUTH. EVERYTHING
2

it's just an excuse for the ever increasing infantilization of the population of Brooklyn.

@Sterno wat

8:46 PM
@Sterno you learned this from urmom, didn't you?

I DID NOT MEAN THAT IN A DIRTY WAY
4

@Sterno Yes.

@Sterno urmom did.

The other day my daughter, who has recently learned the art of WIPING HER BUTT, got some on her finger. She promptly shoved her hand into my wife's mouth.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooope

8:47 PM
@Sterno what a shitty thing to do

Honestly I was just happy it didn't go in her own mouth.

@Sterno She doesn't understand that some things are too big to grasp yet. She just puts her hand on it and closes it and if it's too big she doesn't understand. So recently, when that happens, she gives up and just tries to put her mouth on the thing where it is instead of moving it to her face.

@StrixVaria How have we even survived as a species so far?

@OrigamiRobot jar-jar binks levels of luck

@Sterno o_o

user15026
8:48 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz while I appreciate the idea of destuckification and such, this is just...weird

Other species aren't really any smarter. They just don't know how disgusting they are.

@AshleyNunn Welcome to Brooklyn.

@Sterno I mean there are a lot of things that can kill us if we put them in our mouths.

@OrigamiRobot Sure, as an individual, but not as a species.

@Sterno That's like rule 1 when it comes to kids. I don't have kids, and even I know this.

8:50 PM
That's why parents chase their toddlers around... to keep them from committing suicide.

user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz I am mostly just surprised that there will be people continually willing to pay large amounts of money for things like this

1 min ago, by LessPop_MoreFizz
@AshleyNunn Welcome to Brooklyn.

user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz It's not just there, though

user15026
There are so many things like this

@AshleyNunn There are a lot of idiots.

8:53 PM
@StrixVaria and they are all playing whatever multiplayer game i am currently involved in

> The game can be a bit too "clever" and can be hard for some to get. It's hard. It's unique and not a clone. You will die lots. It's not like other RPG's where you win easily vs everything. Please don't give negative feedback unless you can actually beat level 1. It's similar to HOMM with unit stacking.
> There an enormous amount of strategy under the covers. You just need to look. Give it 1~3 hours and see if you still don't like it. You won't. You'll love it because you'll actually get what it's about.
Yeah that makes me want to play your game.

I do sometimes find it hard to judge when I sit around playing video games all day (well, before becoming a parent anyway)
But then I dig down deep and find the strength to judge them anyway

I don't understand what's to be mad about here.

user15026
@StrixVaria I think it comes down to all of us wanting to differentiate and be magical snowflakes of glitter and wonder, and the world doesnt work that way

If I want to fingerpaint, I know where to buy fingerpaints. I don't need to go to a school

8:55 PM
@AshleyNunn I don't like people who think that kids can't be allowed to lose. No. You're not going to always succeed at everything you try, and that's fine. Learning that that's fine is part of growing up.

@OrigamiRobot i think they are mad at the existance of it

@GnomeSlice it looks like it could be a good game, but it also looks quite cheap

@GnomeSlice Those screenshots don't really inspire me towards confidence.

Anyone in here done a "Log in through Facebook" thing before?

@Yuuki Disadvantage of hunting in anarchy systems: Since ships aren't wanted locally, factions WILL become hostile if you attack.

8:56 PM
@Batophobia Yes when I'm lazy.

Devs just sound like assholes in the description.

@StrixVaria Does it cost anything to setup?

@GnomeSlice I don't see it.

@AshleyNunn Brooklyn is contagious.

user15026
@StrixVaria The idea that we are all unique and special and should all be allowed to do our unique and special things and that you are a failure at adult if you just do things that say pay your rent and feed you and no one should fail ever because we are all special just makes me want to puke

8:57 PM
@Batophobia Not by default. I guess it depends on what you're logging into, though.

it's kinda like people talking shit about dark souls when they can't even get to the first bell

@AshleyNunn Yeah.

meh, the last part too

if the game is hard, there has to be a disclaimer to ward off all the idiots who comment on the game without wanting to learn to play it

@AshleyNunn i would say its more that you fail as an adult if you can't pay your rent

8:58 PM
@GnomeSlice "If you don't like our game it's because you're dumb."
2

@GnomeSlice I'll probably get Darkest Dungeon tomorrow

@Sterno !!

@GnomeSlice the last part is a bit over the top, true

user15026
@StrixVaria Sorry for the rant, this just irritates me sometimes as a person a year out of uni who is literally working to pay rent and not in something I love, and people don't get why I can't just "go do what I want"

@StrixVaria In the same vein, I don't like people who let new players win.

user15026
8:58 PM
because well, I tried, no one hired, I was unemployed for 4 months and thisclose to asking for gov't help

@StrixVaria You actually learn more from failure than you do from success.

@GnomeSlice I also like the quote for that game:
> People were a bit confused on the new innovative controls of the game, so hopefully this will give you a better idea on how to play the game.

Q: Where there exclusives for the famicon disk system?

gcbIs there any reason for a collector to own a famicom disk system, if one is not interested in odd hardware but just access to playing native games? all the titles i see around for the disk system are also available as cartridges for the famicom. Or are there exclusives?

> click on button to attack

@Sterno hue

8:59 PM
It's always classy to refer to your own game elements as "innovative"

and confusing!

@OrigamiRobot Yes. You learn a lot by losing. But it's also important to try to make the new player have fun and not just mercilessly crush him over and over.

@Sterno I AM INNOVATIVE
Praise me!
No, don't bother, I'll praise myself

@OrigamiRobot When I used to play MtG, against new players I'd use a worse deck but play it as well as I could.

@StrixVaria Yea, you can do things to even the playing field that aren't just playing badly on purpose.

9:00 PM
@StrixVaria cut some slack, but don't undermine all the efforts of the new player by allowing him/her to win

@StrixVaria yes, like this.

Witches Heroes And Magic (with no punctuation) is an innovative title, too!

@Sterno It almost sounds like a copyright issue waiting to happen.

@Sterno there is punctuation though

I'm not going to use my turn 1 win deck against someone who is just learning the game. A, it's not going to teach them anything an B, they're not going to have fun.

9:01 PM

I won't let someone win if I'm teaching them a game but I'll go easy on them or help them with strategy tips about how to counter me (assuming it's a game with depth which can be hard to determine strategy for right from the start)

extremely inconsistent punctuation

You're kind of a dick if you just demolish someone in Agricola or Caylus because they barely understand how the game works.

@Chippies Yeeeeep.

@Sterno Yeah. Generally what I'll do is use the first game to explain rules. I'll let the new player make mistakes and after the game I'll explain some of the things they did wrong. Once they have a grasp of the rules, then I'll give strategy tips as we play.

9:03 PM
@Sterno I don't understand where the fun is in playing at totally different levels

@Sterno Yea, I find that helping them play better is more helpful than playing badly to match their inexperience.

imho, it's not fun for either of the parties, if one is new and the other is really good at the game

@Chippies I'm not experienced in the specific games he mentioned, but the fun pays off in the long run when the new player is actually able to compete.

@OrigamiRobot Yeah. You need to find the balance between not crushing them so badly they never want to play again, but still showing them things that will help them next time.

@StrixVaria I'm not either, but what I meant is, there's no fun to go full power against someone whose full power is a lot lower than yours

9:04 PM
I just go into every first play of a game assuming I'm not even trying to win, and just focusing on learning rules and figuring out why the more experienced players are doing what they do

it can be fun if the better player cuts some slack and teaches the new player, it would pay off eventually
but demolishing a new player is just not fun for either party, imho

@Chippies I don't think any of us are advocating going full power against a new player.

GUYS!
I just remembered I have brownies.

@Sterno zomg, #plzsendtehbrownies

@StrixVaria I know, I was just... my comment was relevant in my mind

9:06 PM
Really good read for indie devs - http://www.jeffwofford.com/?p=1579 @JeffWofford

I'm talking about intentionally throwing the game or misplaying so that they can win.

It really just depends on the game too

Especially when they are making mistakes.

I'm a lot more likely to go easy on someone with a game that has hidden information rather than one where everything is open. Otherwise they learn the wrong lessons, strategy-wise

It's much better for them if you explain the mistakes and help them correct.

9:08 PM
I wonder if that XCOM board game is any good

@GnomeSlice i think that was posted yesterday

@Sterno In games with "hands", I usually play the first game or two with a new player with hands exposed so I can focus on rules/strategy rather than guessing games.

probably
also

Basically, try to bring them up to your level instead of the other way round.

9:09 PM
I THINK WE ALL AGREE

@Sterno I disagree

Also, things like "friendly mulligans" in an actual event are really just making people play worse.

@GnomeSlice if that game was free, I'd instagib you so hard!

@Sterno Is @Unionhawk the new @Wipqozn?

9:15 PM
@OrigamiRobot Assuming we're talking about MTG, I've only ever played with friendly mulligans in casual games

@LessPop_MoreFizz Nope. @Wipqozn is still @Wipqozn

Lesson: D3 can't go above 1920x1080, it appears.

@murgatroid99 No, we're talking about SkyDrift.

I mean, if that's the way people want to play, more power to them. But the harsh reality is that if you're expecting a free mulligan in a format that doesn't allow it, you're going to be evaluating your hands' keep-ability worse.

Speaking of SkyDrift, how's your kid, @Sterno?

9:18 PM
And in a draft, it can mean you're building your deck worse.

31 mins ago, by Sterno
The other day my daughter, who has recently learned the art of WIPING HER BUTT, got some on her finger. She promptly shoved her hand into my wife's mouth.

@Sterno NO.

About normal.

@OrigamiRobot It's not just about expectations, though. In casual, I'd rather not play against someone who got screwed by a bad hand.

NO.

9:19 PM
Forcing people to accept the consequences of mulliganing makes them build better decks.

@murgatroid99 That's why the option to mulligan exists.
If you got a bad 7, draw a new 6

9:20 PM
mulliganing??

@OrigamiRobot I'd rather both players start of with a higher chance of having a good hand

@murgatroid99 Which you can do by building consistent decks.

When I play casual, I play to have fun. If this way is more fun, then I'll go with it

@OrigamiRobot can you do that at any turn or just the first?

@Chippies Now I'm just imagining what the game would be like if you could redraw a new hand whenever you don't like your current one

9:22 PM
@Chippies You can repeat, drawing one fewer each time. whoops

I'm talking about what will help increase a player's skill.

@Chippies Mulligan is an option that exists only before the game starts

@murgatroid99 well that just seems silly, most ccg games I've played allow you to redraw your first hand without any penalties

Misread that.

9:22 PM
@Chippies Right, before you take your turn

If you're playtesting a new deck, sure do whatever.

@murgatroid99 but MTG penalizes you for it?

I often keep really bad hands when playtesting so i can see how well the deck can come back from a bad start.

that's kinda shitty of them

@Chippies yes, but it lets you repeat the process: if you don't like your second hand you can go down to 5, or 4, etc.

9:23 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz fully worthwhile to have kids just to refer to them as "spawn"

@murgatroid99 still, seems like the first redraw should be without a penalty and then perhaps penalize the subsequent draws

@LessPop_MoreFizz that was wild from start to finish

Drawing one less card prevents people from mulliganing fine hands to go for perfect hands.

@Chippies Don't think of it as a "penalty." It's just the way the game works

Some formats do give you one mulligan for free.

9:24 PM
@Rapitor There are so many more, I am dying:
5 mins ago, by LessPop_MoreFizz

I won a game in a draft once after mulliganing down to 3 cards.

If you don't like your 7 card hand, you can get a different, 6 card hand instead
@OrigamiRobot and EDH has partial mulligans with (I think) the first one free

As a Jewish Person with a Mother and a Sister, I can 1000% vouch for the authenticity of this account, in verisimilitude, if not in real, actual accuracy.

@murgatroid99 aye

@LessPop_MoreFizz What's Superjew?

9:26 PM
EDH uses Partial Paris rules.

actually, not the first one free. That's just how I've always played

@Yuuki From skimming the account, it appears to be a guy that she is dating who is somewhat more religiously observant than she or her mother are.

@murgatroid99 No, the first mulligan is free in EDH

@OrigamiRobot Rule 903.8 seems to disagree

I went easy in games against my first son. He learned that winning was easy and expected. Now, I ruthlessly crush them.
3

@JasonBerkan When I used to play games with my dad as a kid, if we got to a state where I thought the game was unwinnable for me, we would switch sides. Then I would lose anyway.

@StrixVaria that is an interesting idea

That's an awesome idea.
I want to do that with Warhammer against my friends - if I think a list is overwhelming, just switch sides to see if it actually is.

@murgatroid99 Huh, so it does. I wonder if that changed at some point.

It's nice, though, that my eldest son no longer cares about losing.

9:32 PM
@OrigamiRobot Maybe when it became part of the Comp Rules instead of a fan format

@murgatroid99 Nope, 800.5 says 1st is free in all multiplayer formats

I wonder how you guys can remember all these rules but then I realize how much League of Legends lingo I know.

@Yuuki I have searchable comp rules on my phone
So in 1v1 EDH, the first mulligan is not free

@OrigamiRobot I suspect 903.8 overrides that, but I'm not sure

@Chippies That's Mac.

9:35 PM
Since it's an alternate mulligan rule

@murgatroid99 Why? They're not mutually exclusive

@Frank Hmm, should be something for PC as well

It's an alternate mulligan rule in the way you mulligan.

@OrigamiRobot 800.5 says "he or she draws a new hand of seven cards rather than six cards"
In Commander rules, you never draw a new hand of six cards

@Frank btw have you tried borderless window?

9:36 PM
@Chippies Yep. Actually looks worse.

@Frank how so?
in what way does it look worse?
also, what resolution are we looking for?

@Chippies Like the textures were from 1024x768 or something.
2560x1080

@Frank oh, maybe it just doesn't support 21:9

@Chippies Looking around, it seems it does.
Might just need a refresh from the old monitor.

@Frank you could manually edit d3prefs.txt

9:38 PM
There we go. Much better.
Not bad. Rift 26 from a trial. Not bad at all.

@murgatroid99 Which I would use 903.8 to modify when playing EDH. I realize I'm arguing the spirit of the rules here, but in reality, if someone tried to tell me I couldn't mulligan to 7 on my first hand in multiplayer EDH, I just wouldn't play with that person anymore :P

user15026
Today I learned coffee.SE is a thing.

Either way, my mulligan strategy in EDH is to toss pretty much anything that doesn't give me mana on the first mulligan.
Especially in Prossh
Prossh loves him some mana
In Sisay, I consider keeping anything non-legendary
Zurgo pretty much just needs at least one mana of each color.

HI PEEPS!

Nath I don't have a good deck-specific mulligan strategy for

9:49 PM
@spugsley Hi.

HI
I made my editor cry today. SCORE

@spugsley #immakinganoteherehugesuccess

lol what if I told you it was because I punched her in the face?

@spugsley Next up, make the editor scream out in pain.

lol I didn't but that would be funny

9:50 PM
Finally, the editor will submit to your will.

@LessPop_MoreFizz #lifegoals

You will master the editor yet.

@OrigamiRobot I'm just saying that that's what the rules say. If you're arguing that there should be a free mulligan in this situation anyway, maybe you shouldn't be so quick to judge how I play casual games

...Boon of the Hoarder now drops outside the treasure rift. Huh.

@murgatroid99 I was never judging how you play casual games.
I was talking about how to increase a player's skill level.

9:53 PM
@Frank That's illegal. :( I spent so much time on getting that.

Casual games are just that. Casual.
You can play it however you want

@Arperum I spent so much time trying to get the damn portal from a goblin!

@Frank Yea, it took me forever.
