@BenVlodgi Well... It's technically an RPS, but yes.

@BenVlodgi congratulations for your shiny new badge! BenVlodgi has approved 1 edit suggestions and rejected 0 edit suggestions

yayyy me
@skiwi Oic

I could turn my code also in RPS101 if I add some classes

(starting to wonder whether funny titles that draw attention are actually a good thing)
How is babby formed? — Adam Davis 53 mins ago
(flagged as too chatty)

@Mat'sMug That title could be really interesting taken out of context. :-)

6:07 PM
Woah my flag was "on-time" on that one. Almost an insta helpful flag :O

@Jamal I think it's an awesome title for a CR post!

@Marc-Andre Ah, you must've flagged it at just the right time. :-)

@Jamal Yep I'm not even sure you had time to read it :P

@Corbin Yes, unfortunately people still use WMF. I think I'm gonna suggest tomorrow that they should convert them using another program to SVG, because the Java program I'm working on can already deal with SVG.

Yeah, I didn't know anyone used anything other than SVG. Crazy.

6:10 PM
@Marc-Andre I didn't even have a chance to read it, but that's fine. I could've still waited, as enough flags on a comment will delete it instantly.

@rolfl my 50 today all comes from yesterday's answers.

@Malachi because I know you love nested loops so much
    @Malachi I just wrote this, and figured I might aswell share it

internal static IList<string> BodyToString(IList<IVNode> body)
{
    IList<string> text = new List<string>();
    foreach(var node in body)
        if (node.Type == NodeType.Property)
            text.Add(((VProperty)node).ToVMFString());
        else
            foreach (string s in ((VBlock)node).ToVMFStrings())
                text.Add(s);
    return text;
}
I want tabs to be preserved

@BenVlodgi edit that, click "fixed font"

@Mat'sMug tnx

testing...

@BenVlodgi does this ping you?

6:14 PM
I just hear the new message sound
nothing special

(ding!) is special ;)

@BenVlodgi that's not bad, it only runs the inner loop when it has to, if the node type doesn't match
I gotta jet for a meeting though

@Malachi there are only two values for that enum
it is only doubly nested in loops
but I think it looks pretty without those brackets

@skiwi Are you sure you want the Result part in there too?
I think perhaps your general game interface doesn't need the Result thing, that could be specific to just RPSLS.
But it'd be helpful to look at all of the code at the same time. Have you GitHubed it by any chance?

@200_success congrats!!

Thanks. I suspect some manipulation going on, though. Serial upvoting may be reversed later (see my reputation history on Mar 14).

@200_success By then you will be way over 20k anyway.

Q: Optimizing async joins for mongodb (mongoose) using async.js

LucI'm building a media viewer web app for a kiosk in node that uses data in mongo. To render the viewer, it gathers together all the Asset objects (representing video files), each of which belong to a Category, each of which belong to a Medium. This is my first time using mongo and node together, ...

I'd just prefer the voting to be clean, not rigged.

hey @LokiAstari's here!
@200_success you do deserve all the votes you get ;)

6:31 PM
Whats up?

@SimonAndréForsberg I'll look into that at a later point, I think I almost got a proper working version

@skiwi I can't wait to review it :)

@200_success Nothing is rigged IMHO. For my part I only vote when I find value in a post!

@LokiAstari you were mentioned earlier (trying to find it in the transcript...)

@LokiAstari Some of us just wanted to see if you wanted to stop by sometime. Feel free to come and go as needed, if you have the time.

6:33 PM
Too busy at the moment. Will look back tonight.

@Marc-Andre It raises my suspicions when I see several upvotes within a minute.

That's fine. See you later.

I wish Loki would drop in. He's pretty good at correcting people pretty quickly lol.

@LokiAstari Bye! See you here again sometime.

@200_success Unless someone is contributing a majority of their votes to you, I cannot track it myself. If the script does trigger, then that's that. All we can do is to educate users on this.

6:37 PM
In my case, I almost always verify the new answers/question of a user I know or feel like "inspecting", so some times many upvote can be awarded, but I've not seen any reversal cause by me at least. I always take good care to not upvote too much in too fast.

I wonder about that, I've done some serial upvoting from data.stackexchange queries
no rollbacks yet
like upvote all answers that have 9 votes already

For my part I have aimed my vote-gun at a specific user more than once, but when I do so I always upvote other valuable competing answers and the question it was posted on as well. So I can aim at a user, but actually shoot at posts.
2

@Mat'sMug Does aiming at a user and actually shooting at posts mean that you miss?

@SimonAndréForsberg no, it means the serial-vote-reversal script misses... and that I run out of ammo quite fast ;)

Yeah, running out of ammo that we know of :)

6:44 PM
As long as you at least skim through a post before you vote on it, that's fine with me.

@SimonAndréForsberg I still need to do atleast part of the view so that it prints the results, but gotta go afk now

@Mat'sMug StackExchange posts everything.

Just 4 hours ago, my co-worker made the mistake of not enclosing his data while looping over a collection and calling lambda functions with it. in python

The Sample Code question might be appropriate for Meta?

@200_success "I'd like to find some code samples that we can critique. [...] Pointers to some Github repos would be very helpful. Preferably some messy code that has both glaring and subtle flaws." I don't think so. The OP should just browse our questions and answer them, IMHO.

That's true.

6:57 PM
@Mat'sMug Yeah, pretty much. Normally questions about code reviews belong on Programmers, but this isn't one of them.

I think OP just skipped the intro and jumped on the 'Ask a question' button without even reading a single existing question..

@Mat'sMug I think many of our new users do that

@Mat'sMug Pretty much what many people do. :-/ It's even worse when they give us something that's not code.
Same with the user who just posted the NAA on the C++ post. Everyone thinks we're a stinkin' forum.

The first time I'm about to ask a question on a site, I might do a bit too much research. I check questions asked, I check the meta, I'm researching their off-topic close reasons, and more...

@SimonAndréForsberg too bad we can't make a base class out of you and have every new user implement that!

7:08 PM
And yet, one of my first questions here was off-topic. :-/ But Winston Ewert was nice enough to point out the mistake, and I improved my post.

(that user has been a member for 9 months though)

@Mat'sMug Perhaps he just created an account then for whatever reason, had nothing else to contribute, and then decided to post something.
Thanks, Santa!
The NAA user has now posted a question...

Now why does overriding this method not work

@Mat'sMug Not really ! Needed some information at work !

I see a @Doorknob!

@Mat'sMug As of 3/17 you were beating us in 20ks, tied in 10ks, and we were beating you in closers and editors :-P

What? I'm not good enough to beat all of your editors? ;P

@Doorknob I know! We'll have our closers and editors much faster than you can get your trusted users then (hopefully!) :)
(we'll have 2 more 20K'ers by next week!)

7:44 PM
@Mat'sMug I would be on my way to 20k if I actually had a computer. Sure, being on vacation should be better, but I can't help worry about my precious site :-P

@Doorknob you think the "race" is fostering votes on both sites? (how can we measure that?!)

Damn work that stop me from code reviewing and helping the site!

@Mat You sure can see the difference made in a week on ppcg, let me dig up that mission post again...

@SimonAndréForsberg Do you know much about generics?

51
Q: Let's go on a mission

DoorknobWe've been in beta for 1129 days. Don't you think it's time we get out? We seem to be in a similar situation as Code Review. We don't have enough users with sufficient reputation to gain privileges like voting to close and delete. Here's some quick analysis I did with the API (the percentages a...

The difference in the first week is quite significant
We might pass the 1,000,000 rep mark next week!

7:48 PM
Yeah.. but we have magic potion! :)

Lol, vacation is also preventing me from running my bot :-(
Maybe there'll be a compromise and we'll graduate simultaneously :-P

that'd be nice!

We are in almost an identical situation.

Whyyyy is this not working silent rage

@skiwi Speaking of overriding, in case you didn't know about it, there's the concept of covariant return methods. Very useful.

7:53 PM
public interface Player<A extends Action, R extends Result> {
    default public void onPostAction(final Player<A, R> target, final A action, final R result) { }
}

public class RPSHumanPlayer extends RPSPlayer {
    @Override
    public void onPostAction(final RPSPlayer target, final RPSGesture gesture, final RPSResult result) {
}

@skiwi I'd say I know quite a lot about generics, using it anywhere and everywhere

@Doorknob our numbers differ... are you filtering for recently active users?

@SimonAndréForsberg I know something about it the convariance, but not much
@SimonAndréForsberg The code I just posted isn't working as the @Override cannot apply as it is apereantly a different method signature

@skiwi What's a RPSPlayer?

Oh also:
abstract public class RPSPlayer extends AbstractPlayer<RPSGesture, RPSResult> { }

7:54 PM
@Mat Well, I meant generically, in the sense that our main problem is voting and rep.

That last one might be important :p
And then of course this aswell:
abstract public class AbstractPlayer<A extends Action, R extends Result> implements Player<A, R> { }

Player<A, R> is not the same as a RPSPlayer. There's your problem.

I tried the following aswell:
default public <P extends Player<A, R>> void onPostAction(final P target, final A action, final R result) { }
But that doesn't work either...

This might work: default public <E extends Player<A, R>> void onPostAction(final E target, final A action, final R result) { }
damn, just was I was going to suggest...
@skiwi You have it on git or something so I can download and play around with it?

@Doorknob oddly, WebApps graduated with much, much lower figures than ours both...

7:58 PM
@Mat You think we should mention that to the SE team and see what they think? :-P
Maybe our sites could collaborate to both help each other graduate! (And then go back to being mortal enemies afterwards, of course.)

You might need interface Player<A extends Action, R extends Result, P extends <Player<A, R, P>> or something like that... but when generics gets recursive like that, it often becomes unbearable (if even compilable!) and you should really ask yourself if you really need it like you are currently using it.

IDK... I'm sure SE staff is well aware that our respective communities have been simmering for a while, about to enter heavy boil. At one point the pressure will get too high and they won't have a choice but to graduate us :)

@SimonAndréForsberg Don't have it anywhere yet

@skiwi why is there an abstract AbstractPlayer and abstract RPSPlayer?

Heh, hopefully that's soon!

8:00 PM
@skiwi In what way does it help having a Player interface? In what way is a MinesweeperPlayer, UTTTPlayer and a RPSPlayer expected to behave in the same way? Do you really need a general Player interface for all the games?

@BenVlodgi Because an AbstractPlayer can still be anything... while an RPSPlayer can only play RPS-like games

@skiwi oohh, can players play other games besides RPS?

@SimonAndréForsberg I think it helps, to have atleast some things generalized
@BenVlodgi At some point... in the future

noice
like
RPSLSMB
;)

@SimonAndréForsberg But ye I know what you mean by also having A and R in there, but the weird thing is that they are also in the Player interface

8:02 PM
@skiwi At the moment it looks like the Player interface does more harm than good... (I still haven't seen all your code in context though)

@SimonAndréForsberg You'll the context for it to understand I think

@Doorknob I'm starting to almost hope to get to beta day #1337 just for the heck of it.

@Mat'sMug whys that?

@Mat Lol, that was actually mentioned once on ppcg meta

Leet (or "1337"), also known as eleet or leetspeak, is an alternative alphabet for the English language that is used primarily on the Internet. It uses various combinations of ASCII characters to replace Latinate letters. For example, leet spellings of the word leet include 1337 and l33t; eleet may be spelled 31337 or 3l33t. The term leet is derived from the word elite. The leet alphabet is a specialized form of symbolic writing. Leet may also be considered a substitution cipher, although many dialects or linguistic varieties exist in different online communities. The term leet is also ...

Q: Overriding method with generics not working (no method found)

skiwiI am trying to @Override a method in a class that might look like having a complex inheritance structure, but it should actually be quite simple, however I cannot get it to work. public interface Action { } public interface Result { } public interface Player<A extends Action, R extends Result>...

8:12 PM
@Doorknob Yeah, but... you cannot eat gold!

@Jamal they'll eat our dust, though :)

@Jamal I highly doubt an edible site will make it very far

You know, I think we should have a block party.... and both graduate together ;-)

;)

@rolfl Yeah, I said that a few minutes ago too :-P

8:14 PM
@Doorknob Yeah, tell that to Beer SE, our (drinkable) site.

its funny, on Area51, the reasons where each group is lacking is totally expected for the types of sites they are
PCG doesn't have a lot of questions, but a lot of answers

@BenVlodgi the Area51 stats are only somewhat important for graduation - besides having a stat at "ok" should be... ok. ;)

@Doorknob Just wondering, how did you get your puppet to join a room?

Did that CodeGolf question we talked about yesterday ever get asked .... ? I think it was @Nobody who came up with it.... ?

8:24 PM
@syb0rg Just have it send a message.

@Doorknob I thought it had to be in the room initially to send a message.

no, not for me.

Hmmm, let me retry this then.

And now there are a lot of duplicates in the CR Answers feed...

The Phantom Bug strikes again! :-P

@Doorknob Have you figured out how to fix that?

8:29 PM
Fix what?

The "phantom answers"

I was referring to that bug that was not a bug. :-P What "phantom answers" are you talking about?

In here, when I reinitialize my bot using the SE API:

 CR Answers

RSS Answers Feed

Are you using /events on the API?

Yeah, the answer_posted event type.

8:33 PM
In that case, it's because /events just gets all events within the last 10 minutes (I think). Mine uses the websocket so it doesn't have that problem.
(Also, I don't need to worry about quota and access tokens and stuff. :-P)

I couldn't get websockets to work for some reason... I'm still working on that.
But alas, I am a one half-man half-robot development team.

@BenVlodgi Why am I out of stars?

Hello @AlwaysLearningNewStuff

Hello everybody.

Apple accepted my company's app (which I built by myself basically) today. Not on the app store yet though.

@nhgrif Nice job!
@AlwaysLearningNewStuff I invited you here so we could teach you the Code Reviewians way...

9:35 PM
@syb0rg: Thank you. I really could use help.

TTGTB (adding that too, @Mat'sMug?)

@AlwaysLearningNewStuff Also, it's a known fact that hanging out in this chat room gains you more reputation.

Q: Is this C++ program correctly implemented in SSE?

user3358218I have to implement that C++ simple program in SSE, and I don't know if I have done it in the right way (it's my first program in SSE). This is the C++ program: double distance (int x1, int x2, int y1, int y2) { double x = abs(x2 - x1); double y = abs(y2 - y1); double dist = sqrt(x...

@syb0rg: Nice :) Thank you so much! I highly appreciate your efforts to help me. Again, thank you for your patience with my "clumsiness" :)
@syb0rg: I hope I will be a good apprentice :)

@AlwaysLearningNewStuff I hope you want to fully convert to Code Review and join our race!

Q: The race has started. Are you running?

Mat's MugPCG.SE is going on a mission. And so the race begins. For Code Review!! -- syb0rg 2 days ago Let's see: Programming Puzzles and Code Golf Voting & Activity PCG.SE Voting and Activity Chart Compare to: Code Review Voting & Activity CR.SE Voting and Activity Chart ...

@nhgrif: Good job! You must be very happy!
@syb0rg: For CodeReview! :))

Welcome, @AlwaysLearningNewStuff!

@AlwaysLearningNewStuff Yeah, I kinda really want Code Review to graduate; I've been putting in a lot of effort to get us there.
One way I did that is by creating a chatbot that posts recent answers to a feed.

@Jamal: Thank you!

That way we can see them as soon as they are posted, and then vote on them.

@syb0rg: So what are the ways I can contribute to this site?

9:42 PM
@AlwaysLearningNewStuff #1 thing you can do: vote.
Don't trigger the serial-voting script though :P
But seriously, take a visit to that room ^^^ and vote on some stuff that you think offers good advice.
If you aren't too sure, stick with the languages you know best.
And if you are struggling to find stuff to vote on, taking a look at some profiles in this room never hurts ;)

@syb0rg: OK, I need few clarifications regarding voting. You see I am an inexperienced developer, and I am afraid that my vote will be misleading. I can vote up/down post based on my perception of its usability and how well is the question phrased.
@syb0rg: Can this be helpful?

@AlwaysLearningNewStuff For questions, yes. I upvote almost every question that is on-topic.

Upvoting questions is pretty safe as long as its well written and per your understanding, they've included all the necessary information.

@syb0rg: OK then. I will give a quick glance right now and see what I can upvote. I just fear that it does not get reversed for chain upvoting.

Upvoting answers requires slightly more of an understanding of the topic being discussed to be certain that the answer is actually correct.

9:47 PM
@AlwaysLearningNewStuff That only happens when you upvote a single user too much.

This appears to be off-topic:

Q: Pick up and throw simulation in SpriteKit

TAKeanicefirst of all, thanks for reviewing my first post Last days, I experimented some time with spriteKit and (amongst other things) tried to solve the problem to "throw" a sprite by touching it and dragging. I have tackled the major hurdles, but there consist some problems I cannot explain to myself...

OK, this makes things more clear. Thanks guyz!

@AlwaysLearningNewStuff Also, be sure to take a look at our memes that we may say on chat:

Q: What's a Zombie? And what are the many other memes of Code Review?

Simon André ForsbergWhat is a Zombie? Why are Code Reviewers so violent and talking about killing Zombies all the time? And what ammo are they talking about? What is a TS? What does RSA mean? And what other Code Review-specific memes are there? (As the number of memes grows and grows, and Malachi's wish to vote fo...

It seems that way Jamal.
Secondly, sometimes, the ball just gets stuck. If you want to reproduce it, ...

A question that includes "if you want to reproduce it" in regards to a problem is most likely a question that doesn't include functioning code

@nhgrif Another Obj-C question inbound, a lot of activity for you today!

Are you posting one?
Oh, nvm, I see.

Nope, too soon for that. ;)
