So, you could buy the base game and still get an up to date playing experience, just not any of the high level content.

I heard a rumor that Blizzard wants to go redo Outlands too (the 60-70 area), but given how long the old world took, I have a feeling their bosses will say no.

Well, OK, it was an interview, not a rumor, but still, I think Activision will nix that plan, simply because Cataclysm fell somewhat short of expectations.

@Powerlord A more likely solution in my mind would be bumping the XP gain in the high level old world zones to carry it up to ~65, and bumping Borean Tundra down to 65-68, combined with an Outland Revamp as an 85-90 zone for a new Burning Legion themed xpack

Basically, the old world now has zones divided into 5-level ranges, with only two level 55-60 zones: Blasted Lands and Silithus.

Silithus was never revamped. It could easily be made a 60-65 zone. And the XP ranges in Blasted Lands can be adjusted to make it a 55-62 without much trouble.

You don't need to restructure, just change the XP/Level and XP gain rates to allow for a different pace of character growth in the same content.

You're right that they don't consider it ideal though.

A lot of that has to do with issues of traffic control around launches though.

i.e. Howling Fjord/Borean Tundra and Vashj'ir/Hyjal are basically solutions to The Hellfire Penninsula Problem.

Which isn't as big of one for what amounts to a 'mid level' zone that you don't dash into on launch day.

I know about picking and auto-picking. The game shows "break lock: 50% damage weapon: 0%" when I approach a lock with my weapons drawn. How can I try and break them? If I attack, nothing happens.
