Is there any way to see what questions what were posted by unregistered users?
When a questions asks how to go from step A to step B, is it a [homework] question?

Q: Electron scattering

user2808302I'm trying to figure out the missing step here, in a problem about X-ray crystallography. I am referring to the attached image: In the image, $A =$ electron density, $Z =$ distance traveled, $\lambda =$ X-ray wavelength, $p$ = electron position. It shows two electrons hit by an X-ray, and then...

Q: What do the numbers beside the global inbox hot questions mean?

Brandon I can't find any reference to the number 79 in the actual question. So, what does it mean?

But, the link's been replaced I guess...
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS What's funny? I think it's good that a user wants to make strides in posting good quality questions. BTW Abhimanyu, are you a resident of India?

Q: How much are 3k+ users moderating through the review queue?

Emilio PisantyThis question is an offshoot of Ben Crowell's question Have we lost the necessary critical mass of professional physicists?, and I'm asking it separately to help avoid multi-threaded comment discussions. I'm particularly interested in a comment of dmckee: I don't think that we (that is the m...

Q: Would the level of PSE benefit from an 'entry exam' of sorts?

WouterI'm sure I'm not the only one who regrets Ben Crowell's decision to become unactive on PSE. He stated the reason for his departure in this post addressing the ratio of professional physicist users to beginners, pop-sci philosophers and other 'lower level users'. A big part of that reason seems to...

@shortstheory It's funny because meta is so inactive.

And yes, I live in Bombay.
14:21
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS oh, that's cool. I'm from Bangalore!
14:46
@jinawee sometimes, but not necessarily. In any case, if a question breaks down a problem into steps and asks a conceptual question about one specific step, it's probably not one of those no-effort homework questions we try to discourage.

@shortstheory I live in Bombay, but I was born near Mangalore.

@tpg2114 Yes, I often thought of that too.

@CrazyBuddy Oh...

Oh, no, community has deleted one more of my questions !!! : (

I think Mitchell Porter's comments on that are very useful to anyone!
15:25
undeleted. There seems to be no given reason for any of the downvotes
Though you may want to be clearer in the question

Thanks.
Don't star that, it's not useful to anyone but you :P
@ManishEarth stars are supposed to have purpose!? I need to rethink my life

@ManishEarth Ok.
15:30
I love the irony that that got starred

@RhysW Need to see how many stars that that gets.
Anonymous
Hm... RhysW's username is coming in blue. You're a mod on Physics?
Probably just the one, i dont have much of a fan club here on physics
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS Astronomy

@RhysW Oh, so you become blue if you're a mod on any SE site?
Anonymous
Or only a list of related SE sites?.
15:32
any SE 2.0 site (SO and MSO chat are separate)
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS on any 2.0 site, so i will be blue in nearly every chat
Anonymous
Oh, ok.
Anonymous
@RhysW Wait, nearly every?
well, any 1.0 sites shouldnt have me as blue, but i cant think of any, Mad might know though
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS chat.stackoverflow.com and chat.meta.stackoverflow.com are different
1.0 sites don't have chats

Oh.
@ManishEarth ah well there we go

@ManishEarth So, is that why Maths Overflow had a "tea"
That's because they didn't have meta either
(Lyapunov exponents of the logistic map along with ye olde bifurcation diagram)
If you look closely you can actually see the period 3 orbits in the graph of the lyapunov ^.^
15:56
@ManishEarth: Any ideas on this bug?
Technically you're not supposed to expand that box
@ManishEarth Why's that so?
There's the "expand" thingy... o_O
That's a chrome feature, that's why.
Not an SE feature
huh? "Chrome"?
Are you talking about browser?
@CrazyBuddy google chrome, google browser
15:59
(coz I'm using firefox)
both are built on webkit
huh interesting, didn't know that had come to the stable build
It's there on my own build, but I thought it was new.
IIRC you use chrome... Right?
@RhysW And you..!!! - You thought I didn't know that..!!! Grrr... (I'm not that dumb) >_<
@CrazyBuddy well you asked !
Maybe you don't know much about @Manish... Sometimes he plays with word clones (that may have a different meaning) :D
16:18
haha bad Manish

Should this question be re-opened as on-topic? The Math.SE migration was blocked.

Q: Divergence of series

Shaona BoseHow do I understand whether a series will diverge at some point? For example, in the Legendre's diff. equation $$(1-z^2)y' '-2zy'+\ell(\ell+1)y~=~0,$$ does $y(z)$ diverge for $z=-1$ and $z=+1$?

Q: Help regarding kinetic energy

@Qmechanic I don't think so. It's not our problem that Math.SE doesn't want it. Did they explain the reason? Maybe low effort?
@jinawee : No reason given by Math.SE. We can just see from the change of announced closure reason that the migration didn't go through.
17:26
@Qmechanic no, if a question was migrated in the first place, that means it's off topic, and thus should remain closed. The exception is if the question should never have been migrated in the first place, but I don't think this is one of those cases.
She could post it directly there. If it gets closed, they'll have to explain why.

Q: Is it useless to edit a bad question?

jinaweeDoes it make any sense to edit a question which I have flagged and will probably be closed?7 An example would be to add the [homework] tag to a bad homework question.
