@Tildal Think we should make a synonym pointing to ? I used it by instinct.
I edited it, but I'm sure it will be a repeated thing in the future, especially as we start getting new users.

@Undo sure, no problem

I tried to do it, but I don't have the required score in the tag. Good thing, as I ended up typing 'moo' without noticing it.

I need to sign off for the day obviously ... I first made a synonym of :)

Bye!

subconsciously, I wanted to be really clear that it's the the-moon that I meant LOL
@Undo Yeah... good night! Talk tomorrow ;)

@Tildal Adios!

Q: What caused Cydonia mesas, such as "The Face on Mars", to be created?

PearsonArtPhotoThe Cydonia region of Mars is littered with mesas, which are an unusual geographic feature on Mars. A sample of a few of these, including the commonly known as "The Face on Mars", is shown below. How were these mesas actually constructed? .

@StackExchange Yeah, really.

Looks like the borrowing the lunar rover question will be the space popular question of the day.
I'm tempted to change the title to "Can I go joy riding in the Lunar Rover?", but...

The answers all need some upvotes in the lunar rover question... space.stackexchange.com/q/2095/25

Anyone want to talk to a NASA satellite using Amateur Radio? jpl.nasa.gov/hijuno

@PearsonArtPhoto hmmm Juno is supposed to do its flyby soon enough, right? That's what the countdown on that page is for?

Yep. Could be a fun event here.

@PearsonArtPhoto need to read up on it, I'll put it to the schedule after I'm done... might take me a while tho, I have 3 long documents open that I need to read first :|

LOL. I have a document to put together today, thus it would take me a while as well...

The Soyuz rocket is rolled out to the launch pad by train on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Launch of the Soyuz rocket is scheduled for Sept. 26 and will send Expedition 37 Soyuz Commander Oleg Kotov, NASA Flight Engineer Michael Hopkins and Russian Flight Engineer Sergei Ryazansky on a five-and-a-half month mission aboard the International Space Station. 2:00 PM
hmm why two flight engineers, there's any works planned on the IIS itself during these 5 months something?

I wish I had a ham radio now.
Any idea if yelling in the general direction of the probe would work?

2:22 PM
@PearsonArtPhoto You were right, that lunar GTA question is #3 on the SuperCollider now... I'm already rep capped and you're just about to be too LOL

@Undo Doubtful.
You could get your license still, it's not that hard;-)
It's been a while since I've repcapped here...
Although hitting the rep cap, I can ignore this site more than I would normally and actually get some work done. Hmmm...

3:02 PM
@Undo I had some ham in my omelet this morning.

@Donald.McLean Too much information!! :D
Anyone wanna add an answer to the lunar GTA question while it's still hot? There's nice rep pickings to be had, it's now officially #1 on the SuperCollider. It's a nice advert for the site, it would be a shame not to throw all our buns into the oven while it's scorching hot like that. ;)

3:41 PM
Looks like your answer officially wins the most upvoted answer, at least for now.

@PearsonArtPhoto Is that for the Rover question?
'o @TildalWave, @PearsonArtPhoto
What was that about ham radio?

Mr.@PearsonArtPhoto i see 16 days left for that event , was that ended few minutes ago ?

@PearsonArtPhoto: Or the more archaic QRA ...?
@TildalWave: What lunar GTA question?

4:48 PM
@Everyone Juno spacecraft will do a flyby of the Earth on its voyage to the Jupiter in about 16 days. This page has a countdown when it will slingshot past us and apparently we'll be able to say "Hi" to it when it does with HAM radios. Something like that, I still didn't manage to actually read it LOL
@PearsonArtPhoto You were too slow to add points to your answer, and I neatly avoided having to discuss most of them by PhotoShop-chi and tongue-in-cheek :P
when I say points ... I mean photos :D

@TildalWave: I know q+: I was probably the first to mention it in here
@TildalWave: What's lunar gta?

@Everyone Lunar grand theft auto LOL... this one:

Q: Can I borrow a lunar rover?

James JenkinsAccording to Wikipedia there are 3 LVRs sitting on the moon, in very well defined locations. When China, or whomever gets to the moon with a person next; would they be able to get in and drive around in an LVR left by the US?        The U.S. Apollo Lunar Roving Vehicle from Apollo 15 on the mo...

Do we get to beat @James up for potential DoS to the rest of site users because of his GTA question? (+:

@Everyone Only in rep points :P BTW, don't bother voting on top two answers from me and @PearsonArtPhoto for today, we're long past daily rep cap... better save it for tomorrow LOL

@TildalWave: Weird coincidence there should be that question, and the one about model rocketry. I had a similar thought about all those abandoned descent stage lying on Luna too. Sure, I'll upvote on the morrow.

p.s. Do we need a GTA tag?

5:03 PM
@Everyone hehehe no, I don't think so... maybe GTR? (grand theft rocket) :D
or GTS ... spaceship

GTR it is - GT Rover

oh and that

(+:

> quick update: The earliest possible date for the next Cygnus approach and rendezvous with the ISS would be Saturday, September 28. An exact schedule will be determined following the successful completion of Soyuz operations.

@TildalWave: This [question][1] killed one in my kitty ... so I've had to think up another one. Luna has several spacecraft, descent stages, and what-not lying on his body - some of them relatively recent.

What parts could possibly be scavenged?

5:10 PM
@Everyone You're not the only one, @PearsonArtPhoto was also saving that question about The Face of Mars for today, then the GTR one came along and stole the show... but good, we're really visible today, shame it's not Thursday when there's usually the most traffic

Yeh. Saw it (+: 'cept James question is zigzactly what I had
Very very visible indeed. 700 views in around 4 hours, isn't it? That's got to be a record

@Everyone Happened to me when he posted that frogronaut question... I just wanted to ask a similar one. @Undo then salvaged it: space.stackexchange.com/q/1958/49
But JJ's question was closed and deleted... it was not possible to save it without putting more effort into it than to simply write a new one

@TildalWave: If someone gets their hands on the LVR, it would hopefully enforce the case for a Lunar Commons, and Space Salvage
Hmmm. That last could be phrased as a question too ... Would use of LVR establish a case for Space Salvage law?

@Everyone it would be at risk of being considered as primarily opinion based, because we simply have no precedents for it, not with space law in mind at least

@TildalWave: So it may. Yet the fundaments of surface salvage operations should be acceptable as comparable. Besides with the renewed interest in Space, the archaic form of OST should be due for review anyway. Use of LVR would only highlight that

If "Could I build my own spaceship?" gets an answer, it could hit the supercollider.

@called2voyage supercollider?

this ^ or what @called2voyage said

@TildalWave, @called2voyage I didn't even know about that ...

It's basically a list of the most popular and active questions on the site.
It's a good way for different stacks to get exposure.

5:34 PM
I understand that now (+: clever idea. Just never really looked at it
What is that tweet thing that some questions have?

Well, my GRAIL question shows a tweet/twitter in the revision history ... should I be worried?

That just means that your question got displayed on our stack's twitter feed

No reason to think somebody may come hammering at my door then?

Nope, you can see the twitter feed here: twitter.com/StackSpaceExp
It's yet another way to get our stack more exposure.

@PearsonArtPhoto We're each losing at least 140 rep today due to rep cap ... we should put in motion idea to be able to spend excess rep on bounties, maybe only with ability to assign them to questions and later award answers of others, so there's no cheating. :|

@Tildal Wanna post it on mSO, or do you want me to?

@Undo Be my guest, but there might be similar requests there already, I didn't yet check. I'll only have more time in roughly 2-3 hours, so if you can do that earlier, then sure I'd be grateful. :)

@Tildal I'll go do it, just a minute.

Q: Allow rep lost to the repcap to be used for bounties

UndoThis was prompted by this chat message: @PearsonArtPhoto We're each losing at least 140 rep today due to rep cap ... we should put in motion idea to be able to spend excess rep on bounties, maybe only with ability to assign them to questions and later award answers of others, so there's no ch...

7:08 PM
@Undo Cheers! Much obliged :) Well put too

@Tildal Thanks!

@Undo Upvoted!

Hm. Why would I create a profile on mSO?

7:23 PM
@Everyone It is the place to ask questions about 1) Issues with StackOverflow, 2) Issues with general Stack Exchange mechanics
Even if you don't think you'll ever ask any questions, you may want to answer an issue or upvote an answer, at least.

Too late q+: Upvoted already

8:03 PM
@TildalWave Honestly, I care more about the tag points than reputation. I want those tag badges. I especially care more about them on SO, but it's nice here too.

@Pearson I care about your reputation, especially if you don't want it :)

Although I might not have answered one of the questions I did today if I had know I would repcap this badly...

8:16 PM
Should we have a tag 'photo-voltaic' as a synonym for 'solar power'?

8:44 PM
@PearsonArtPhoto I had the "keep in system what is gained in system" system in mind :D It's an anti-deflation mechanism.
SO might not even notice it, but for us, to "throw away" by now probably more than 300 rep in a single day is much and could be appreciated by someone that well earned it and didn't get it because of small number of vote capable visitors. And then we're even throwing those rare votes we get away.

Actually, what's happening is many questions are going unanswered as a result. It's good to give other people a chance, but...

9:17 PM
@PearsonArtPhoto that's just it, I could have awarded some bounties without being hit on the wallet because of the tax we're paying to contain rep problems of bigger sites. You also, anyone that hits rep cap, and has maybe reached some new privilege. And we could award those answers that weren't so fortunate to enjoy a rep train question they answered to increase their visibility. Iron out the wrinkles that are afterall all there due to being in the same game with the big players.
It's already a common knowledge you should head to Stack Overflow to gain rep fast, we don't wanna lose our members because it's easier to earn for a Ferrari on Stack Overflow than for a Fiat here, even if the effort involved is the same, do we?
OK, I started using analogies too much already... I might be going too fast with it, dunno.

@Undo I think badges are actually a better, more precise measure to compete on. With rep, you never know who voted on who and who didn't (i.e. competitive voting), and there's bounties that would clearly put anyone awarding them in disadvantage. Badges from main site + meta site, that's how I'd measure one's efforts on any SE site. ;)
funnier too, just look at some of the badges names LOL
