Let me try to explain what I want to do.

I have created an object that I'm using to store links, each property having a name that describes each link

I pass a links 'name' into the <input> and I want it to return the link.

Okay - right off the bat, it's better to use the var keyword for good practice (the var keyword makes sure to only define the variable within the given scope... you wouldn't want to let that slip within a function) and to use the literal notation ({} not new Object())

Should I declare it globally or use something else entirely?

It's fine declaring it globally... but just use the var keyword for good practice (it's declared globally regardless because you're in the global scope)
