Q: How can I tell if a flight itinerary is fake?

Michael Huff I tried calling the airlines, and I tried tracking apps. How can I tell if this flight itinerary is fake? I spoke to the person before they boarded their flight.

Is that the full document? No BA logo anywhere, for example? It doesn’t look at all like the e-ticket confirmation I’m used to seeing from BA. Have you met the person whose ticket this is supposed to be? travel.stackexchange.com/questions/104281/…
This question was posted 3 hours after the departure time for the flight, did this belong to someone else who went to the airport, or did you not take your flight? By searching google I can see a flight going from Ghana to LHR but it doesn't leave until 10pm
A couple of years ago. But I've talked to them every day within those 2 years
We talked before the departed
Could the flight been sold through BA but be flying under the original name. If that since
I got the same info on the 10pm flight
@Michael Huff Sorry to say this, but if you met someone two years ago (presumably in Ghana) and haven’t been back since, unfortunately I think the likelihood of this being a scam is pretty high, despite the daily phone calls. I assume you sent the money for the flight rather than booking it yourself on their behalf? Why do you think it might be fake?
Aren't departure and arrival times usually shown as local time? If so, the flight duration does not match those times, but as if they are the same time zone.

I greatly appreciate you answering and confirming that for me have a great day and thanks again for your quick response it was greatly appreciated
The mention of non-smoking seat requested should be a big red light. BA don’t allow smoking on any flight
@rhialto even after flights went non-smoking, many systems still showed "non-smoking seat" (confirmation or request) for a very long while. But I believe I haven't seen one of those for quite some time now.
This is a very obvious fake due to some words being blurry, misaligned, or otherwise unusual looking...
flightaware.com/live/flight/BAW97 shows that flight number was last used in 2015, over 3 years ago, and was from LHR to YYZ (Toronto, Canada)
If it was from British Airways, they would use the same logo, colors, fonts and other branding, similar to what you see on their website. This one looks like it has been butchered together with different fonts, sizes, spaces around the different text passages etc.

@WeatherVane Even if they were in the same time zone, departure at 00:20 and arrival at 12:20 would be exactly 12 hours and not 12 h 20 min as the "itinerary" says...
@iHaveacomputer There are people who still use travel agents. I'm not sure why. But they do still exist. In that case, the itinerary could be from a travel agent rather than directly from the airline and, thus, wouldn't necessarily have the airline's branding/logos. That said, I agree that this looks very likely to be a fake.
@reirab then it wouldn't say "Thank you for choosing British Airways", it would say the name of the travel agent.
@reirab interesting comment. I always use a travel agent unless the itinerary is very simple. When the shhhhhhugar hits the fan I’m glad there’s a pro to talk to interested parties.
Congratulations on figuring out this sign of trouble, but think also about the earlier signs of trouble that came up before now. For instance insisting on use of Bitcoin, Western Union or Moneygram to transfer funds, which are chosen because it lets them take out the money anonymously...
@Moyli I noticed that too, but it's minor compared with the blunder of time zones.

It doesn't take 12h20m to fly from London to Florida; 0:20 to 12:20 isn't 12h20m; it's 17h00m (even if for some reason, the arrival time would be given in the time zone of the departing airport, it's still not 12h20m)
You should have at least redacted the passenger's name and the booking reference.
@MichaelHuff Check out the personal financial stack exchange, which has many questions about scams.
